First things first, this would be an 8/10 if Sonic didn't "floss", that bit genuinly ****ed me off. I get this is a "kids" film technically, but come on, people who love Sonic are 90's kids, not now kids!

Anyway, aside from that, suprisingly great film. Very Detective Pikachu, i'm amazed Sonic wasn't voiced by Ryan Reynolds. But yeah, probably the best kids or family film I seen in ages. I want to add I think Jim Carrey is perfect. Not just in he was very good, but doesn't outstay his welcome as Robotnick. They could've gone the Suicide Squad route of having the bigger stars as leads that aren't meant to be the leads but they didn't. Kudos.… Expand

The best part of the Film was the response to the Historical Event that was the Original Design for Sonic.

Anyone else find the random inclusion of Longclaw to be unnecessary? She's not even a Sonic Character! This could have been Sonic's Dad from the Comics and TV Show and the movie would literally not be much different.

I grew up with the games on my master system and then on mega drive .. I thought this was a movie that was just fun to watch. Not going to win an oscar or anything but was probably the best videogame movie I have ever seen. Simple story, acting was pretty good. Jim Carey nailed egghead.

PROS:
-Sonic’s new design. Seriously, it gives the movie a lot of points right off the bat. Props to Paramount for making a rare move and listening to criticism for the better of your film.
-Jim Carrey gives one of the best performances ofPROS:
-Sonic’s new design. Seriously, it gives the movie a lot of points right off the bat. Props to Paramount for making a rare move and listening to criticism for the better of your film.
-Jim Carrey gives one of the best performances of his career as Doctor Robotnik. His performance in this film is manic, wild, and INSANELY entertaining. It’s highly reminiscent of the earlier roles that shot Jim Carrey into stardom, and any Jim Carrey fan would be doing themselves a disservice NOT to witness his performance.
-The action in this movie is surprisingly well-done and exciting. It’s well-shot, and pretty unique compared to other movies out there. It really shows potential for the action if this (inevitably) becomes a franchise.
-Ben Schwartz is great as Sonic. He imbues the protagonist with this child-like giddiness, and gives Sonic more personality than he’s ever had in the games.
-The human drama focusing on local cop Tom Wachowski is, surprisingly, not boring. I was invested in it, mostly due to James Marsden’s surprisingly charismatic performance.
-The second credit scene was perfect. I won’t spoil it, but it sent me back to the days of playing the classic Sonic games as a kid, and I LOVED it.

CONS:
-The humor didn’t work for me. It goes above the low-bar that a lot of lower grade kids movies go below (The Emoji Movie.....), but it’s still not very good. There are flatulence jokes, and numerous pop culture jokes, and....Sonic flosses (the dance). The jokes really fell on their face I’d say....8 times outta 10.
-The numerous product placements in this movie are so in your face and nonsensical that they get distracting sometimes. From the blatant references and pandering to things like Zillow.com, or Olive Garden, to Tom ordering Sonic a Mello Yellow at the bar. It gets distracting at a certain point.

OVERALL: SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is probably the best video game movie ever made, which is saying A LOT for the genre. It’s a super fun movie that should make for an entertaining family movie night, and should satisfy most Sonic fans.… Expand

This movie really surprised me. I was honestly expecting it to be bad, but it was everything but that. Whether you're a Sonic fan or not, you can enjoy this movie. I've probably never been so excited about a movie having a sequel until now.

Why does this have a +8 audience score? It wasn’t as bad as everyone thought, but it was far from good. It had predictable tropes and plots, and was overall generic. The only genuinely great part was Ben Swartz having a blast voice acting as Sonic.

Why is this live action? it hurts the movie a whole lot. I did genuinely have fun watching this in theaters, but Sonic was just a little too immature for my tastes. I found this to be a good time.

I felt that Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz, Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Rec) had a surprisingly sympathetic backstory/character arc There are a lot funny lines in this that will also work with adults. EffectsI found this to be a good time.

Effects and action-wise the movie does a good job of depicting the hedgehog's superspeed and his attack abilities. Dr. Robotnik's robots are also well designed and I like their sleek look. I'm especially pleased that the studio took the time to change Sonic's appearance after the world first got their look at the attempt to make him more realistic. (Kind of creepy. Everyone's complaining about the human teeth, but it was his weird suction-esque lips that weirded me out.) He looks good in this. I think some of the lighting on him doesn't always match the scene but this is a nitpick considering that the computer animators had to redo the character within a short amount of time.

Bare in mind that this isn't the ideal Sonic story I'd have gone with. This takes place on Earth, so we see very of Sonic's distinctively imaginative video game world and most of his supporting characters. (Yeah, a lot of people don't like a lot of Sonic's growing number of ancillary characters, but I think most of us would've liked to see him alongside Tails or Knuckles.) One wonders why this had to be live action instead of entirely computer animated. This taking place on Earth is hurt more by the fact that this goes with a basic odd-couple-on-the-road-together-scenario. Moments where Sonic and his human friend (X-Men and Westworld's James Marsden) get into heated disagreements can feel forced. Also, Marsden's character has an at times frustratingly one-dimensional disapproving sister-in-law.

Schwartz was a really good choice for Sonic. He has an energetic delivery. Though Jim Carrey doesn't have the round physique of the original Dr. Robotnik, he does an excellent job as a completely egotistical madman. The actor has some of the best lines in the movie, maintaining his gift for improv while never feeling like he is out of character. Credit should also be given to Lee Majdoub who does a pretty good job acting off of Carrey as Robotnik's put-upon assistant.

Compared to the other recent video game-based family film Detective Pikachu, this isn't quite as good. The movie just isnt' as ambitious or innovative. Still, this is a nice film the kids should like.… Expand

I was one of the people who wanted the redesign of the Sonic movie. It was worth a watch. Dr. Robotnik played by Jim Carrey was hilarious at times reminded me of Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Believe it or not, despite a few hiccups when it comes to story direction, Sonic The Hedgehog is a whole lot of fun and actually pretty heartfelt and funny. I'd say it's the second best video game adaption right behind Tomb Raider (2018).

This movie was funny, great acting with Jim Carrey and James Marsden, and an ending that left you wanting more. Thank you so much for the love that went into this movie. The re-design was an absolute must. It made this movie. Easily this could have been review of a good movie that was ruined by bad character design. This wasn't the greatest movie in the world, but a movie you won't have a bad time with. No doubt you'll have a laugh at one or the many jokes. This is a really fun night at the movies. The bad parts of the movie were the fortnite dance Sonic performed, that was the only cringe part of this movie. For being a "kids" movie, I can let that slide because of the respect the rest of the film gave it's characters. 8/10, great watch, won't regret it, fun time.… Expand

If your an adult and got kids, its even more for them.
Jim Carrey brought Robotnik to life like no one else could, but at its core its a lil kids film. Which is fine/perfect.

Subjectively (from the opinion of a fan of old games about Sonic, from the very first 8-bit title of the game): - I am extremely surprised, even shocked, how much the creators of the film were able to spoil nothing (neglect of the canon and fan base is a frequent occurrence for films based on video games). Even if we do not take into account the unprecedented case of listening_to_the_audience's_feedback regarding Sonic's design and its correction, the plot of the movie itself doesn't conflict with the canon and could even place in the universe of classic games as a prequel. There were plenty of Easter eggs in the movie, which will definitely please the old fans of the supersonic hedgehog. So, as a Sonic fan, I sincerely thank everyone who worked on this movie for not ruining my childhood and the childhood of many others, you managed to make a nice family movie with a wonderful Sonic and not offend anyone. Tiene un aire que me recuerda al videojuego del primer Sonic, me alegro que hayan rediseñado al personaje, a como tenía que ser y lo lograron. I tried to enjoy this movie but I couldn't. He has several points in his favor, such as Sonic's design, but the story and humor are very stupid.
