I never had good things in store for this film since it was announced. As the images began to circulate, it continued to hold little interest for me other than to see what would be attempted with this character from the Spider-Man universeI never had good things in store for this film since it was announced. As the images began to circulate, it continued to hold little interest for me other than to see what would be attempted with this character from the Spider-Man universe that I would never have thought possible to have his own movie.

There are countless things that should have been explored in a different way in this film, but that will only remain as unattainable desires.
What I can admit though is that I would've been more in favour of seeing Morbius as a villain in a Spider-Man film.

What you see here as an origin could've been condensed, we could've avoided the unnecessary and empty romance, plus the lousy villain with no motivation, and then Jared Leto could have gotten a place in the MCU, but I guess a lead role was more succulent than ending up as a supporting player like he did in Suicide Squad.

But what's the point of being the lead when your story is filled with so many inconsistencies and a script that gives his character no purpose?
In the beginning he wants to find a cure. Once he gets his powers, that's thrown out the window and never mentioned again. Very disappointing.

I liked some visual effects, but I didn't understand the stubbornness of getting a slow motion moment in every fight scene.
And the editing was monstrous.

There's also a scene in the climax where Morbius seems to throws a Kame Hame Ha of bats that looked kinda cool in a scene that would've looked good in a Batman film if it had been filmed in a better way. Needless to say, it didn't happen that way.
Other than that, this is one of the most underwhelming superhero films in years.
Many people will judge it by the numerous delays it had, but in this 2022 it's as bad as it would've been in 2020.

Though its two post-credits scenes have finally given me a clearer confirmation of how Sony is building a Sinister Six movie in the same way Marvel did with 2012's The Avengers.

I have no faith in Kraven, let alone Madame Web, but we'll have to wait and see what their endgame will be.
Venom had been more or less passable for its financial success, but this film will really put a crimp in their future plans.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The writing of this movie could have been A LOT better. There are a lot of inconsistencies and aspects that feel forgotten about:

- Why wasn't Morbius attacked by the bats in his initial encounter with them? It's implied that they feel a kinship and won't attack after taking the serum but what about when he stood in a swarm of them in the beginning? - "They'd rip the flesh of a normal man"
- Lucius seems all too fine with killing people. He was never shown to be psychopathic or otherwise inclined towards murder other than hitting a kid with his crutch after they bullied him as a child.
- The world seems all too fine with the aspect of vampires. There are people with superhuman powers attacking people and draining their blood but nobody happens to care? No public freakout?
- Morbius makes 2 serums to kill his friend/enemy Milo (Lucius) and himself. Yet, after killing Milo he doesn't take the serum. This is never explained and seemingly forgotten by the end of the movie where he's driving a nice car (???) and speeding down a highway to meet the Vulture. Which is another thing
- Morbius agrees to meet with the vulture in regards to some vendetta with Spider-Man... Morbius isn't a villain? He has never shown villanous characteristics throughout the movie. Why would he meet with someone just out of prison and looking to fight a hero?

Other than that, the acting wasn't terrible and was just hindered by a lackluster, non-sensical script. The effects, while not great, weren't terrible. IF there is a sequel, someone else needs to write it. 4/10

First, it is an anti-hero comic book character. And although it keeps most of the vampire blood-sucking gags, it's dark, not cheesy, and a good sideshow to sink your teeth into! Now, on the other end, the so-called critics and people that get drunk off of defiling art by talking about the CGI but, obviously, never skimmed through the comic - should be ashamed to know that Sony did the right thing by implementing Morbius's purple hue within his rapid motion. It is purposefully, not "cheap" or "lazy" animation! You can always tell when a student comes to class and didn't do the homework but pretends to act as though they did. In today's world of quick Google searches, you got phony professional or amateur critics that draw deductions on emotions rather than putting in the arduous hard work. It's such an oxymoron to refer to the animation as "cheap" and "lazy" without knowing the historical art style of the comic. It's always those who never do their homework that grossly chastises what they know little about. It psychologically proves that these very people are not only toxic and untrustworthy but live a life of lies. Expand

They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries. The conflict and charcacter development is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of classic English dramatic literature, most of the weight of the scenario will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Michael’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these scenes, to realise that they're not only humorous- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence, people who dislike Morbius truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the depth in Morbius’ quote: “I am Venom. Just kidding, I’m Dr. Michael Morbius at your service.” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Jared Leto's genius wit unfolds itself exclusively on the cinematic screens this April 1st. What fools... how I pity them Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Horribly disappointing. The writing was cringe-worthy, the CGI was shockingly sub-par given that this was released by Sony. I thought that Leto struck the right tone with the character and that Matt Smith was an inspired choice for the villain. That's about it, the casting was solid, everything else was a disaster. The editing, especially at the end was baffling. It's as though the producers were given six months to shoot, and at the last minute told they had to complete it in one. The two end credit scenes will make you want to crawl out of your skin. I really wanted to enjoy this, I thought it started out well, got progressively worse, and ended so abruptly I felt I missed half the movie. Expand

Honestly, who cares about the sinister six or kraven movie or madam web at this point… We know they gonna be another soulless, generic movie that is outdated as soon as it comes out. Sony should stick to making animation and let marvel studios handle the live action… The way to say sorry after this mess is to just announce that tom holland and zendaya have finally signed for mcu trilogy and just cancel the sony universe of marvel characters because it’s a mess.

You stuck him in the trailers and remove him from the final cut, other then his voice recording in that confusing and moronic end credit scene. Cash grab? Leave it to Sony. Expand

If one wants to blame someone - Disney must be blamed for putting their hands on Spider-Man after the initial 6-movie deal with Sony. Regarding the movie itself - the story wasn't much gripping but for the first depiction of an anti-hero it was just okay - not too boring to fall asleep, but not thrilling either. There was good acting from Jared Leto and Matt Smith. The best part of the movie was nice looking and eye-catching cinematography. The visual effects were decent, not too bad - satisfying. Brilliant music throughout the whole movie. The 3rd movie of the Sony's Spider-Man certainly is worse than the previous two, but overall it was a good watch. Expand
