This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Morbius was not as horrible as I heard but it was far from amazing. The writing was bad specifically when it came to dialogue; it was awkward, cheesy, and especially when it came to the jokes they just fell very flat also the story and character development were just boring and had no layers. The visual effects were good just the slow-mo scenes, the smokey wind when Michael and Milo fly and move fast, and farther away and action scenes with Michael and Milo's vampire faces were a bit weird looking at times but the closer up scenes of their vampire faces and Michael's transformations were pretty great. Matt Smith gave a superb performance. The post-credits scene was odd and just didn't seem to fit or make sense. Overall Morbius was a fairly entertaining if somewhat disappointing movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The villain's line is far-fetched and looks like a typical villain's line in a movie with opposing friends, no enthusiasm. What I want to say about graphics is pretty good. 1:30 is too little for the film, I didn't have time to understand much, I couldn't feel the main conflict properly. The scenes after the credits are what the director and studio bosses, I think, will report to the fans for a long time. What, how, why did Keaton move into Sony's universe??? One thing I can say for sure - we are waiting for Garfield. Expand

The story in that sens, is pretty average. One thing is clearly evident, it's that Smith had better lines which gives him the opportunity to get more energy into his character. So much, that it makes Morbius feels lame. Leto has a character that is restricted in terms of emotions and range. I don't know to who the fault should be attributed, but it makes Morbius a less relatable character then Milo (who is the villain). The FX are decent but in scenes with lighting. The darker scene during night time are not film very well. They miss alternate light source that could ease the viewing. There is a problem of rhythm in the movie. You get some fast pace, mix with slower parts but it's just all over the place. The music was average to me. The end credits are more interesting the the overall movie. Which by itself is a real problem. I give it 50%. Go see it for Smith and the secondary actors. Vampires have been done a lot in cinema, and a better main character could have sold that movie. Expand

It started out fine and actually was fine for me all along, it just didn't take long for the end to come and I just stared stupidly, feeling like that was it? It was too short and therefore so empty in my opinion. In my eyes, the same problem as the second Venom. In short, fast paced but ultimately detrimental. The plot doesn't help either and was a bit weak in my opinion. For me, an above average film that I don't recommend. Perhaps only to the biggest Marvel fans. Expand

As the images began to circulate, it continued to hold little interest for me other than to see what would be attempted with this character from the Spider-Man universe that I would never have thought possible to have his own movie.

There are countless things that should have been explored in a different way in this film, but that will only remain as unattainable desires.
What I can admit though is that I would've been more in favour of seeing Morbius as a villain in a Spider-Man film.

What you see here as an origin could've been condensed, we could've avoided the unnecessary and empty romance, plus the lousy villain with no motivation, and then Jared Leto could have gotten a place in the MCU, but I guess a lead role was more succulent than ending up as a supporting player like he did in Suicide Squad.

But what's the point of being the lead when your story is filled with so many inconsistencies and a script that gives his character no purpose?
In the beginning he wants to find a cure. Once he gets his powers, that's thrown out the window and never mentioned again. Very disappointing.

I liked some visual effects, but I didn't understand the stubbornness of getting a slow motion moment in every fight scene.
And the editing was monstrous.

There's also a scene in the climax where Morbius seems to throws a Kame Hame Ha of bats that looked kinda cool in a scene that would've looked good in a Batman film if it had been filmed in a better way. Needless to say, it didn't happen that way.
Other than that, this is one of the most underwhelming superhero films in years.
Many people will judge it by the numerous delays it had, but in this 2022 it's as bad as it would've been in 2020.

Though its two post-credits scenes have finally given me a clearer confirmation of how Sony is building a Sinister Six movie in the same way Marvel did with 2012's The Avengers.

I have no faith in Kraven, let alone Madame Web, but we'll have to wait and see what their endgame will be.
Venom had been more or less passable for its financial success, but this film will really put a crimp in their future plans.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The writing of this movie could have been A LOT better. There are a lot of inconsistencies and aspects that feel forgotten about:

- Why wasn't Morbius attacked by the bats in his initial encounter with them? It's implied that they feel a kinship and won't attack after taking the serum but what about when he stood in a swarm of them in the beginning? - "They'd rip the flesh of a normal man"
- Lucius seems all too fine with killing people. He was never shown to be psychopathic or otherwise inclined towards murder other than hitting a kid with his crutch after they bullied him as a child.
- The world seems all too fine with the aspect of vampires. There are people with superhuman powers attacking people and draining their blood but nobody happens to care? No public freakout?
- Morbius makes 2 serums to kill his friend/enemy Milo (Lucius) and himself. Yet, after killing Milo he doesn't take the serum. This is never explained and seemingly forgotten by the end of the movie where he's driving a nice car (???) and speeding down a highway to meet the Vulture. Which is another thing
- Morbius agrees to meet with the vulture in regards to some vendetta with Spider-Man... Morbius isn't a villain? He has never shown villanous characteristics throughout the movie. Why would he meet with someone just out of prison and looking to fight a hero?

Other than that, the acting wasn't terrible and was just hindered by a lackluster, non-sensical script. The effects, while not great, weren't terrible. IF there is a sequel, someone else needs to write it. 4/10

This weekend we caught the release of the long delayed Morbius. Sony vs. Marvel? What production do we have here with a Spiderman character that make his big screen debut? Yes, it's that origin story we've all been clamoring for. That tale of Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist with a rare blood disease, who attempts to cure his ailment using DNA from vampire bats. His experiment takes an unexpected turn causing him to be infected with vampirism. Bloodsucking hijinks ensue or something like that.

First, I'm not really sure where this will fit in the MCU universe or if it should, which is crazy considering the planning and storytelling that Kevin Feige and the MCU have done for the last 20 years. I don't know what to say, but there's an obvious imbalance between the production companies - each with their own agendas. There are so many holes or not enough explanations for portions of the movie. For example, Morbius clearly has powers but in most "powered" movies, the character takes some time to figure out how to use the powers. There were times where they hinted at the power but Morbius already figured it out without even trying. Sure, he's supposedly a genius but flying is always a struggle for every character who flies. He just gets it right away in front of a subway train about to hit him? COME ON SAHN. It's not the biggest issue but there are consistent situations throughout this movie that you have to think, "why did that happen or how did it happen so easily?"

The visual effects and editing is probably the only place where this movie truly succeeds. Morbius as an anti-hero/villain of Spider-Man's exceeds his movie in one fashion. Where Spidey has his peter tingle, the MCU has really struggled to visualize that for the fans. Here, the producers were like we have to hit a homerun with this. I agree that they knocked this echolocation/bat sense out of the park. I mean they did so well with it that they actually go to the well too many times with it.

S2S: Official Rating Scale
Long story short, if this is a MCU movie... this isn't their best quality. If this is a Sonyverse movie, then this is a subpar movie that is par the course. Morbius looks good and has the bells and whistles but the substance is lacking. There's a lack of understanding where this movie fits into the MCU or the "Sonyverse". The movie is entertaining but grab a handful of popcorn and watch this movie when it eventually comes to a streaming service. Just like the delays it took for this movie to come out, viewers should delay to see this flick and save their money.

Which is probably the best way to watch this film. The film itself is ok, at least they did not botch Morbius for a PG rating like they had done in the Spider-Man cartoons. The writing and directing is nothing amazing but gets the job done, if you're invested in the Spiderverse and absolutely need to see this.

My biggest complaint is the CGI... It looks like they hired the latest graduates from SFX school and let them go all out with as much useless effects. Making action scenes look like Morbius is doing "bullet time" in the Mississippi river.

Jared Leto does a great job as Michael Mobius, his portrayal of this character is much better than his version of the Joker. If only the rest of the film could measure up to his performance.

Overall, it could of been a lot worse (e.g.: suction cups on hands). It could also do a lot better. Make sure to check out the post credit scenes.

Oddly, Logically Reasonable Superhero Story

It’s pretty rare for me to see superhero movies with a great logical explanation for their superpower through sci-fi. This Morbius (2022) has a lil bit blown my mind with their scientific explanation and great delivery which is convincing enough to think if Morbius's superpower is possibly happening. One of the Greatest Scientists and a Nobel Prize rejector, Dr. Michael Morbius struggle to find the cure for his incurable disease for his fellow sufferer. Then, he has found the cure through bat vampire blood with great superhuman power but costing uncontrollable body and mind. Long story short, this movie is about the introduction of Morbius's superpower and most of the storyline is about controlling his superpower.

The pros are suitable pace which is not too fast or too slow, great logical explanation through a Lil bit of sci-fi, and a clear storyline through simple story explanation. My odd POV, I thought this movie a lil bit reminded me about the chars from The Twilight Saga, especially The Volturi. The Volturi char seems to have a similar appearance to Morbius through the same haircut and vampire ambiance lol. The cons are incomparable to other superhero movies and standard quality for overall including visual, ex: CGI. This movie didn’t about a superhero typical plot in which superheroes fight the villain from a threatening world. It even didn’t about fighting a very difficult or a very strong villain which makes this movie didn’t qualify enough as a superhero movie. But both of that reason is typical of Sony Spider-Man Universe like Venom movies. This is also the main reason why Morbius has been made to synchronize with Spider-Man, Venom, and upcoming movie through the different universes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) which consist of the Avengers. Overall, this movie is just good and okay. It’s worth it if didn’t expect any expectations of a superhero movie. Maybe it felt like Venom movies but tbh I’d rather choose Venom lol. Lastly, there are two post-credit and pretty important if wondered how the universe collides with the Spider-Man.

There's strong performances from a sensational cast but the movie lurches erratically from scene to scene, like a drunken sailor. We jump back and forth in time, plot threads get lost from one scene to the next, character development is almost non-existent and huge chunks are just taken out of scenes with absolutely no regard for the audiences need for coherence in what they're seeing.
I'd estimate there's probably close to an hour of missing footage here and it's frankly insulting to audiences that Sony thought putting the movie out like this was acceptable.
Hopefully at some point the studio can put the movie back together properly because there's performances in there and a gorgeous, original visual style that feels like they could make a great movie, if only the people behind the scenes cared enough to make it happen as intended.

When he finally believes he’s reached a breakthrough he soon realises that he has actually infected himself with a form of vampirism instead. Whoops. Now with a primal need to feed on human blood he desperately tries to cure himself before the blood cravings take over. And cue the bats.

Morbius could have been so close to greatness it’s actually frustrating to see it fail. I wanted this to be so much better. It doesn’t really feel like it knows what kind of film it wants to be, a superhero movie or a horror. And although the first act is very promising and sets the film up nicely the rest is a bit of a mess. There are scenes that feel like they’re paying homage to old school vampire movies, but there’s no chance to build tension as every scene is completely rushed. It wants to get to the CGI vampire stuff right away and it certainly does that. Though it’s not violent or atmospheric enough to be a good horror and it’s all over the place with the rest of it you don’t end up with a great origin/antihero film either. Having said that, it’s better than both Venom movies put together. I’d put that down to Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius. He’s doing his best with what he was given. The idea for Morbius is good but it wasn’t executed well at all.

I’m always one to favour practical effects and makeup over CGI and Morbius definitely made a huge mistake with all the CGI because at times it looks awful. Old style vampire makeup like Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) or even Buffy would have worked far better here. It’s all red eyes and growly vampire faces in order to try and creep you out. The fight scenes are absolutely horrendous. All this shadowy flying through the air with slow motion every five seconds so you can actually see what’s happening is laughably bad. It’s boring to watch and ends up feeling like a video game. There’s also a strong sense of a disjointed story, honestly it felt like scenes were either missing or cut far too short. There may have been a lot of scenes removed or reshot and whatever the reasons for that the result is a film that doesn’t know what genre it wants to be, a severely disorganised story with dodgy CGI, messy fight scenes and an over the top Matt Smith. I normally like Matt Smith but for this he felt completely miscast, and his excessive pantomime performance just went from annoying to more annoying.

Nowhere near the standard it should have been and considering the hype they’ve been trying to whip up for Morbius for so long now it was never going to live up to that. For all you die hard Sony/Marvel fans, yes there are two post credit scenes. If you’ve made it through the film then it’s worth sticking around for the first scene but the second is probably the worst post credits scene in a superhero movie and clearly a case of setting up more feckin’ franchises and seriously can we just have some stand alone comic book films for a change. Is anyone else getting tired of these connected movies where you need to have seen 10 other films and a TV show to understand everything that’s going on. Not every single superhero film needs to be all connected, it’s getting tiring now give it a rest lads. Sony is clearly trying very hard to get some excitement going on some future franchises, and in the process of laying the foundations for future movies they forgot to make an actual good one here. Sony/Marvel would want to get their act together because if they’re planning on making more of this standard then I think I’ll pass.

Morbius could have been it’s own thing, set apart from other comic book movies. Considering the subject, it should have given the whole thing a higher age rating and gone down the horror route instead. Disappointing, and only recommended for comic book movie fans but I’d suggest you go into Morbius with very low expectations.

Not sure if this is worth watching in the cinemas but as a streaming film, it was enjoyable. I mean it's a pretty basic origin story so what else do you want?

I don't understand why people consider this movie as good, not ironically...
