Those people keep on trying to invent a bicycle. Doing same thing again and again. Same thing that fails, again and gain. Yet they keep on trying.
Problem is that most of those wannabe inventors does not know anything about thing they are "improving". Or how to make things better. OR how to make anything that would not be a complete ****
Dial of Diarrhea is a perfect example of it. It starts well, just like PROPER classical Indiana Jones, but then those "inventors" come in with their idiotic ideas and blow whole thing up. I have no idea why some people think that Fleabag is a good at anything, from acting to writing. She had a moderately decent comedy show and now Hollywood seem to think that she is the next great everything, from writer to actor, giving her gigs in various positions in very prominent franchises...where she promptly fails. Just to get next job in even bigger franchise. It is flabbergasting how some people manage to fail upwards. But then again it is Kathleen Kennedy house, where competency and talent mean nothing.
Movie starts well, but after 15-20 minutes it devolves into collection of pisspoor writing, completely unnecessary politics and finicky CGI. While there are quite a few good action scenes, they can hardly hold this movie together.
Best thing i could say about this film is that it makes Crystal Skull look substantially better. It is no longer the worst Indiana Jones movie.
Horrible writing, average directing and mediocre acting. Ford is tired, of this movie and of life and Waller-Bridge is one of those irritating obnoxious know-it-all in-your-face i-am-better-than-you morally bankrupt extremely narcisssitic **** that nobody likes. Banderas is nice, but he is there for just a moment. Mikkelsen is a great actor, but he is working with an abysmal **** of a script, so there is only so much he can do.
I do find funny all those shills, giving it 10/10, whining how all those "haters" are giving it 0/10, so they compensate with their 10. While completely ignoring 10/10 positive bombing, because that is apparently completely ok. "Its ok when we do it."

The final nail in the coffin
At 14:40 today I entered a semi-deserted theatre to watch the final (?) installment of the Indiana Jones saga. What followed was a tediously long series of action set-pieces, in which the titular character is dragged either by Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character and her annoying sidekick, or by the bad guys. The opening scene with de-aged Indy was particularly unsettling.
I felt no chemistry between Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Harrison Ford. And apart from the interaction between Harrison Ford and Karen Allen, the other scenes are too loud, uncanny, and ultimately dreary.
Sadly the soundtrack, scored by John Williams himself, feels very forgettable, frequently reusing themes from the other movies, which take you out of a scene.
Joyless, shallow, and dismal are the adjectives that best describe how I felt as I left the cinema after two hours and 30 minutes. I hate the Crystal Skull film, but at least I like the scene in the '50s café. I have no good memories of the Dial of Destiny, and I don't want to watch this ever again.

Went to see this in cinemas and it was exactly how I thought it would be in the trailers; worse than Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls.

Despite me not liking KotCS, and absolutely despising scenes like where Mutt swings on tree vines, at least that movie had some classic Indiana Jones fights, like the one at the start of the movie on the motorcycle. Dial of Destiny manages to have none of the classic indiana jones action scenes, minus maybe the first scene, and at the same time disrespects Indiana Jones as a character in order to introduce, who Disney thinks, is a 'new, cool, potential replacement (?)' for Harrison Ford. And of course, in typical Disney fashion, since they re-use the recycled plot points from other Disney movies, they have to make Indiana Jones look bad in order to make their new character look good.

The co-star for Indy is unlikable throughout the whole film. She's rude, entitled, has little to no arc, and doesn't pair well with Indiana Jones. I don't blame beloved grumpy senior citizen, Harrison Ford, for accepting a fat pay-check from Disney. In my mind, there are only 3 Indian Jones movies. Just skip this.

The weakest Indiana Jones, ever! A film not for entertainment but for moral education of adolescents... A naive- instructive children's story, reminding of the Spanish teenage soap operas of the 80s, Soviet youth cinema of the same period in combination with Sesame Street, aiming to awaken the love for mathematics, physics, history... because mathematics according to the scriptwriter will make you gods... as if the producer and performer were not Disney, but the North Korean Ministry of Education aiming to educate exemplary and inquisitive, atheistic students... And the ending is just pathetic, the scholarly Greeks of Archimedes and the war-loving cruel Romans. ... Instilling the trampy feeling throughout the film that the Nazis are the Romans and the American government, just speechless... forget about Professor Indy being fawned over by the beautiful students...

Indy is reduced to a broken down shell of a man by KK and her agenda. What a surprise that we are treated to yet another strong female character in a Disney film. How's that worked out for them previously? Phoebe Waller Bridge is insufferable. I'm struggling to think of a more dislikeable character in any other film. I mean what even is she? The film sure can't decide with her personality changing every five minutes.

The film is a series of average chase scenes with bland sections in between. Even the praised opening 20 minutes is nothing particularly special. It's simply the only section of the film that reflects the classic trilogy.

I re-watched the Crystal Skull after seeing this for the second time after being very disappointed during my first viewing. This film makes it look good in comparison. They really should have looked at Maverick to see how to bring back a classic beloved character and give the fans what they want. They didn't as their agenda is what matters the fans don't matter in the slightest.

So how many nazis does it take before you get sick of that theme interwoven into most of the Indi adventures . Ok so you start making us believe that the next adventure is about a knife. Oh but it's a fake. Only to find out the movie is about time travel. Really. To give you an idea how bad the movie was received by the theater audience no one laughed at all. When it ended my daughters boyfriend started to clap. After he applauded with a weak clap of two hands snacking each other literally NO one clapped with him which made him put his hands down. When people walked out of this half empty theater on 3 days after it's release with dead silence what does that tell you.

Shoving in a female character as basically the lead, not because she is a well written character but because of gender. Same pattern with Star Wars... Taking Luke Skywalker, making him a weakling who meets the "perfect" female character to be better than him, and steals his last name. Indy was also a beloved treasure hunter that got ram fu*ked by, you guessed it, a "strong female character", who will take his position.
I am done with new movies, this whole day and age is screwed beyond repair...
Why is it so hard to create female characters which are good, and not make the entire premise of that character gender based ????

Where are characters like Ripley, Ashoka, Gwen Stacy, Interprete (Evil Dead Rise),Liara (Mass Effect) ????

Can you correlate something that has entertainment merits but not thrills? I've been thinking about it a lot. In my opinion that's what happens to this latest installment of Indiana Jones. Yes it has its degree of appeal but it doesn't elicit any excitement. Nearly $300 million dollars were spent on a story that feels empty, unfocused and worse, a conspicuous lack of motivation.
My God, it's clear that Harrison Ford himself didn't want to be there. It's noticeable that even for that reason Phoebe Waller-Bridge seems to have been given a lot of starring weight. Even poor Mads Mikkelsen once again ends up as a tedious, one-dimensional villain. It's terrible to see this actor wasted in english-language films. As I said, the entertainment dimensions are present. In this case I give special mentions to the chase sequence in Tangier and the whole opening sequence of the film. From there on the rest leaves much to be desired. And in this case it is fair to compare it with its predecessors. Even the absence of Spielberg in the director's chair plays an important role in the mediocre results of this film.

For the weight it carries and the franchise it represents, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny stands as a downright disappointment and one of the biggest letdowns of the year. It has only earned the other half star because of its scale and production values, but when the time comes and this film is added to the collection when it hits the physical format, believe me it won't matter whether it is there or not.

First ~20 minutes of film was decent (guess why?) but average quality, and then... Harrison Ford in role of retired, divorced, sad looser yelling on loud youngsters... Helena is unbearable, annoying and leaves Indy to die, twice... and yes, she is thief and sociopath, it's impossible to like her. Why this film was made (except money)? There is no scene or dialogue worth to remember. Generic adventure movie - all the elements are there but no soul. Time travel did not work, as always, it's just gimmick to make plot. Lots of plot-holes and "teleportation". Even chasing sequences were boring! How it is possible?!? JOYLESS, UNNECESSARY, SOULLESS cash grab: chaotic, BOOOORING and TOO LONG... 'Unnecessary' is the key word. Another IP is dead. At least Indiana Jones parts 1-3 still are good and perfectly concluded... Even "Crystal Skull" didn't bruise Indiana Jones' character like that... Save your money (and time), I just lost mine. **Strangly my longer and detailed review did not make it to publication on MC.** Expand

In this fifth and supposedly (and VERY MUCH hopefully) final outing for the famed archeologist, Indiana Jones finds himself teaming up with his estranged goddaughter (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) in the late 60s to uncover an ancient dial artifact belonging to Archemedes that can supposedly *rolls eyes*... Allow time travel. So, he must stop a group of Nazis from uncovering the artifact before they can travel back in time to the early days of WWII to reverse their defeat. Now I love Indiana Jones and his adventures as much as the next person. Of course, that only applies to the first three films, which are far and out the best and most superior. I'm with the majority of people who'd much rather forget the fourth film ever even happened. So therefore, you can probably imagine my reluctance and skepticism going into this one. I often made jokes years ago when the film was first announced as being in development that it would be called 'Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Missing Dentures at the Nursing Home'... Cause let's face it, Harrison Ford's no spring chicken anymore to say the least. Add to this the fact that not only was Spielberg not returning to finish things off himself, but instead James Mangold was brought on board (who I always thought seemed like such a random choice of a director for a film like this.) And if that STILL didn't sound bad enough, hearing that they were going to de-age Ford for several scenes obviously didn't sit well with me at all, since that sort of technological and creative choice for a film is always either hit or miss (it was very much a miss in this case.) In case you can't already tell, I did not enjoy this film very much at all. What started off as a promising enough first half quickly took a nosedive in the second half and especially the third act. Once the time travel aspect was introduced, I was ready to be done with the movie. I know Indiana Jones is all about seeking out the abnormal and paranormal with his ancient artifacts, but c'mon! Time travel!? Just judging from the title of this film alone, I begged and pleaded to myself that it wouldn't be time travel like I feared, and that's exactly what I got. That's on the same level of ridiculous as the aliens from the previous film! And while there's nothing quite as absurd as a fridge getting nuked this time around, rest assured, there's plenty of other absurd "That definitely should've killed him" moments sprinkled throughout. Really, the only positives I can give this film is the charismatic performances of Waller-Bridge, though her character simply felt like a Karen Allen/Marion clone, and she even had her own little Short round ripoff following her around for much of the film too. Also worth noting is the return of Jonathan Rhys Davies as Sallah was also welcome. Ford on the other hand looks miserable throughout the whole thing and like he doesn't even wanna be there, and at his age, who can blame him? His paycheck must've been large enough for them to talk back into one more. Overall, it's absurd, it's off the wall, and it features time travel, something that doesn't belong in an Indiana Jones movie at all. I had low expectations going into this one, and all my fears and doubts about being able to give Dr. Jones a satisfying close were all but confirmed. Hard to say whether I dislike this one more than the fourth or vice versa, because they're both on par with each other in terms of bad. In my eyes, this franchise ended over 30 years ago with 'The Last Crusade', and I'm perfectly content to think of it as such from this point forward. Expand

Every 'Indiana Jones' movie has had at least one memorable moment while this one has none, which is pretty surprising since even 'Crystal Skull' had fridge scene (which was memorable, but for the wrong reasons). It feels pretty sanitized for an Indiana Jones movie as well, as we never see any of the goofy gruesome death scenes for the villians. Wasn't really bothered by the de-aged Harrison Ford, nor did I get any 'woke' vibes that some people are complaining about. The CGI wasn't terrible, but it did get a bit distracting during the train sequence, especially since a lot of it could have been done with practical effects.

Ford and Waller-Bridge have moments that are almost interesting, but for the most part it's a pretty tepid pairing in the movie, as is the inclusion of discount Short-Round. Kind of wish they had just brought Mutt back, but it is what it is. The villain is pretty middle of the road as well, though I'm still trying to figure out how he survived being smacked in the face by a pole while falling off a speeding train. As far as the whole time travel thing goes, it's not bad (WAY better than aliens), but I think it should have been handled differently. Overally, pretty 'meh.' Not the worst thing ever, but save your money and rent/stream it. Any die hard fans of the franchise are going to be massively disappointed, but perhaps less so than they were with 'Crystal Skull.'

For some reason stealing is now glorified in Disney movies. A kid steals money from another kid to buy ice cream. Never is there any consequence. Even when stealing from Indy and being caught, the kid doesn't even want to give back the stolen item until the annoying girl orders him to.

Stealing is not new in movies, but often is done for a bigger cause, like feeding a sibling or something at least honorable. Here it's just about buying ice cream and having shiny items. Also no arc where the character grows and learns from his mistakes. In the end the same kid ends up murdering a guy under water. A kid murdering a guy in a Disney movie, without any remorse or consequence. He didn't even need to murder the guy as a fence was between them both so he was perfectly able to escape. Next, there's the bad guys, who end up killing bystanders throughout this movie for no reason other than to show how bad they are. I don't know why, but it always feels misplaced when people are murdered point blank for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't remember this being a thing in the older movies. The killing always seemed to have a purpose in the story. Here it's needless, the airport guard had no purpose and didn't need to be murdered point blank. Same with the people in the archive at the start. Just pointless murder as if we need to be shown the baddies are really bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So sad. I had the overwhelming urge to fast forward during most of this movie. They managed to make every character unlikeable. Even old, sad, Indy. To destroy a character, who at this age should be a distinguished and celebrated lecturer and author at this point in a career, is an insult. Everything about this movie was a bad idea. Expand

It does have some nostalgia and Easter eggs thrown in. Unfortunately Indiana Jones is treated in a similar way Luke Skywalker was. A shadow of his former self, depressed, no confidence and just downtrodden. How a character who has seen and experienced the amazing things Indiana witnessed could just end up a bum is beyond me. But of course don't worry a strong independent woman comes along and just craps all over him through out the movie. Indiana Jones deserved better his ending should of been epic what a waste. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Disaster is what I would fear Hollywood/Disney would soon become. Generically predictable and making the same garbage we got from the past. And believe it or not, the first 15 minutes of Dial tone of density is actually amazing. The action kicks of in 1944 when ww2 is happening and CGI Harrison Ford is collecting a sphere that turns out to be a fake, the dial of destiny, I GUESS, is actually real and he has to save his friend and Vollen get a pipe smacked into his face 70 mph, but he's thanos so that's cool. I can also say that the CGI on Harrison Ford is MOSTLY pretty decent, but in some scenes it looks rubbery and was set at night for a reason, but it did feel like a indy movie. And after the first 15 minutes, the good stuff pretty much ends there, audiences. And here's some "cool" thing that the star wars the last Jedi added to the film. Indy is a cold depressed old man that has NOTHING to live for and we get a plucky female character named HELL-ena who is the worst character in this series. The main plot of this film is going country to country to get the dial and Vollen is still alive and hunts Indy down to get the other half of the dial. Indiana Jones is not Indiana Jones in this film, he is Luke Skywalker from the last jedi, he literally needs a plucky female character to show him the way and the lady tells him he's a piece of crap and how he's a grave robber and tells him constantly. I hate this lady because like people say, she's SO arrogant and is annoying. And we learn that Mutt died because the actor who played mutt didn't want to come back to the series. And Indy gets shot and captures him and I don't want to discuss how short round, sorry, UUUUUUHHHHHHH, teddy and HELL-ena got on the plane, she asks if he has flown a plane before, he says no, and HELL-ena says that he has NEVER flown a plane before. WHY the F*@# did you even ASK you incompitent piece of s#!T, Why!? So anyways, in the third act, Indiana Jones starts kicking some real good @$$ like the good old days. Just kidding, he doesn't do crap. Hell-ena saves indy and Vollen gets shot and his crew starts shooting romans and vollan and his crew dies on a plane when they crash. And Indy want to commit suicide and die here, but HELL-ena knocks him out and brings him back to 1969. The ending is kind of good with doing the same scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but Marion needs kisses and they both kiss and The End. And other parts of the film I don't want to mention {but I really want to} because it just came out so don't waste your money on this bombing piece of garbage . Expand

It's the Jungle Cruise effect that Disney tries every time. Ford's acting was fine, such as it was, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge is insufferable and lacks any charisma whatsoever. Framing the US as the enemy in the film, as Nazis no less, was just an insult for a July 4th weekend film. It was boring, lacked practical effects, and looked artificial. There was some serious uncanny valley in almost every shot. Mishandling this film and franchise, after so much fail with Star Wars, it is clear that Disney has reached a new low. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What's the worst thing a film can be? Boring! And that's what this film is...

FYI there will be spoilers for this but no-one is watching this film so I'm not worried......

Good things:

The first 10 mins are really good....make it seem like this is going to be a good film.....what a tease this is!

Harrison Ford is the best thing in it. Some of his acting actually made me tear up a tiny bit!

Music is just as good as ever, but it's John Williams so hardly ever worried about that

Bad things:

My dear sweet baby Jesus is Phoebe Waller-Bridge just infuriating. Why do Lucasfilms like to make their older male protagonists useless in comparison to their younger British female newcomers (I'm looking at you Rey!). She literally says "I'm a better archaeologist than you!" TO INDIANA JONES!!!!

Some of the dialogue is just awful.....Indy says "I don't believe in magic, but some of things I've seen....I have no explanation for".......so what about the other 3 films (I don't count Crystal Skull) with the Ark, glowing MAGIC stones and the Holy bloody Grail?!?!?!

The films waaaaaay too long.....I was bored so went out for a pee half way through, came back and nothing had happened.....I never normally go to pee during a movie.....well if its good!

The plot is dumb. The mcguffin for this film is the titular Dial Of Destiny which is a clock that can make the user travel back in time and some Nazi reminants want to travel back in time, kill Hitler, and then take over so they don't lose the war......but it can only time travel back to 212BC.....I was sat there just thinking "Is this movie over yet?"...Indy also gets framed for murder and it never gets resolved? Like they're expecting a sequel (I doubt that, this movie is flopping hard in the box office and needs to make 750mill to make a small profit)

Anyway, I could go on all day about more bad things but I don't want to waste my time and yours (pun intended)

4/10 I'd say wait till its on Disney plus but you can skip it......never thought I'd say this but, bring on the Barbie film....it looks fun!

Alright Indiana Jones fans we’re back again for Indy’s last adventure, yes I know we said that the last time but this time it really is the last chance to see Harrison Ford as the iconic archaeologist on the big screen. So despite what you’veAlright Indiana Jones fans we’re back again for Indy’s last adventure, yes I know we said that the last time but this time it really is the last chance to see Harrison Ford as the iconic archaeologist on the big screen. So despite what you’ve heard from the reviews, if you’re a fan of these movies then you really do have to see this one too. Sure we all sat through Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so if you survived that then you can sit through this I promise you.

Indiana races against time to retrieve a legendary artifact that can change the course of history. In typical fashion, he’s not the only one looking for the artifact. Enter Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Boyd Holbrook. No I’m not listing Antonio Banderas with the cast, despite his name being all over the posters, he was barely used, what a waste. We meet Indy as a bitter old man, in the middle of a divorce and just about to retire. Clearly his best days are behind him and the last thing he expects is to go on another adventure to retrieve an ancient artifact before a bunch of Nazis use it for “insert evil plan here.” Yes the Nazis are back again, they worked so well as villains the last times, why not use them again. Harrison Ford, check. Nazis, check. The hat, check. The whip, check. Spielberg…eh not this time. Fear not, you’re in the capable hands of director James Mangold. Remember what he did to Wolverine when he made Logan? Well he didn’t quite reach that standard here unfortunately, but hey at least it’s better than The Crystal Skull. And sure look, we’re all going to have our own ranking of the Indiana Jones movies, I definitely believe the 4th is the worst of them but no matter how you feel about this one we’re all agreeing that Raiders of the Lost Ark is the best by a long shot. Honestly, I never really loved any of the sequels, and please Temple of Doom fans don’t kill me, they have their moments but Raiders was an absolute masterpiece, I rewatch it every Christmas but with the sequels and now The Dial of Destiny I can’t see myself looking at them again.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is fun and worth a cinema trip for the fans of the franchise. It is nostalgic to see Harrison Ford take on his most iconic character once more and as I’ve said countless times already, nostalgia sells. It’s entertaining and a bit of fun, even if it is moving from set piece to set piece like a National Treasure movie. Despite a running time of 2 hours 34 minutes you don’t actually feel the time pass. There’s enough going on to keep you engaged though it doesn’t quite have the same magic as the original. It also took a very unexpected turn in the final act. And I’m not sure it really worked for me, it felt too out of place for an Indiana Jones movie but I didn’t hate it. Mads Mikkelsen plays a formidable villain as always. He never puts in a bad performance and he was a perfect choice for an Indiana Jones bad guy. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was a good addition to the cast and in no way deserves the harsh comments doing the rounds on certain websites. There’s almost a cartoonish level of violence going on in The Dial of Destiny, I’ve never seen quite so many characters getting brutally injured and not even showing a bruise. I know we need to suspend belief a little bit during these action/adventure movies but The Dial of Destiny was definitely pushing it.

It’s sad to see that the times of casting a different actor to play a younger version of a character is now over. With modern CGI, we’re seeing more and more of the digital de-aging of famous actors now for flashback scenes (and in some cases, the entire movie). And sure it didn’t look too bad here for the opening of The Dial of Destiny but there are a few moments during that sequence where it looked a little like a video game. In fact the CGI throughout The Dial of Destiny looked a little dodgy, and I’m not about to criticise Harrison Ford for not riding a horse through a parade of people, the dude’s 80 but if you’re going to rely on so much CGI then it really needs to look better and less like a video game cutscene.

While the newest addition to the Indiana Jones franchise won’t exactly blow audiences away it makes for an entertaining cinema trip and should keep the whole family engaged. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has been announced as the last Indy movie so let’s leave it at that. It’s done now, no more sequels, or prequels, no more, it’s done. We’ve said goodbye to Indiana Jones three times now, I think that’s more than enough. At the end of the day, this was never going to live up to people’s expectations and it’s impossible to reach the standard set by Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s a very average action/adventure movie that gives another farewell to an iconic movie legend. Recommended for all the Indiana Jones fans or anyone who enjoyed National Treasure and/or Uncharted.

Some scenes, especially the intro and the scenes in the cave, are so overly dark that it is hard to make things out. This was obviously to cover up shoddy effects work, most of which looked poor and definitely brought down the movie. This thing looked awful and there is no excuse for it considering the money that was sunk into this. The action sequences are equally unappealing. They happen far too frequently and last way too long. During the first half of the film, you never had a moment to just enjoy it. It was just numbing action sequence after action sequence.

As for what little pros this film does have. The plot, which does include time travel, is fine. Mads is great as the villain. Other than that, It's a forgettable entry that had me checking my watch constantly to see how much time I had left. I contemplated leaving many times because I was so bored with it. Crystal Skull is a way better send-off for Indiana than this trash. Dial of Destiny is a shallow cash grab and nothing more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a long-time fan of the Indiana Jones movies, it was a bummer to see them go out not with a bang but with a whimper. It was completely soulless, with the main, but not the only, reason being that Harrison Ford's face was superimposed on a stunt man's head and de-aged for way too long at the beginning. I found myself unable to move past this shockingly bad use of CGI and enjoy the rest of the movie. Also, things are rarely explained; the film just moves from one action set piece to the next with seemingly no raison d'etre. We don't get to spend enough time with these characters to learn about or start empathizing with them before they start running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The action sequences are very tame for an installment in a film series that has yielded some of the most thrilling action scenes of all time. Probably the most disappointing experience I've ever had at the movies, and an embarrassment for all involved. I blame Disney and Harrison Ford for beating this dead horse. Not sure if it sucked because Lucas and Spielberg sat this one out, but that's most likely the case. Having seen the film, I honestly couldn't tell you whether James Mangold has ever seen an Indiana Jones movie in his life. The film seemingly had nothing in common with the previous ones in the series. It made Crystal Skull look like a work of art. Time for a reappraisal of that film, anyone? Expand

O final ficou absurdamente lindo.

After watching The Dial of Destiny I can definitively say that it is incredibly...average. The film has some entertaining and fun sequences, some entertaining and dumb sequences, and a lot of 'okay' run of the mill action. The pacing of the film isn't terrible (although I do understand the complaints criticizing the movies lengthy run time) and the performances and set pieces are actually pretty solid. This is not a bad ending to the Indiana Jones saga, but it is a somewhat unnecessary one. I would recommend watching the film later down the line on streaming, you'll probably get some entertainment out of it. Expand

This is far from even the second best entry in this line of films, but I can't say I ultimately hated it overall. I definitely dislike parts and certain decisions made left me scratching my head, but the central McGuffin is undeniably cool and the set piece design is top notch. The story was incredible, the acting superb, and really, what else is needed from an Indiana Jones movie?

I was VERY worried about this film going in for the reasons many have mentioned, as Indiana Jones is pretty much my favourite film series...but they got everything right. It is hard for me to imagine how anyone could love Indy Jones and not love this movie. It was in part dark and gritty, in part sad, but on the other hand full of discovery, thrill, and adventure, solid characters, the familiar wonderful music, amazing locations, action scenes that were way better than what I was expecting, and just everything you can love about this series. It was exactly what I longed for, and a perfect ending for my favourite film character of all time, given his age.

The Last Crusade remains my favourite in the series, but Dial of Destiny more than holds its ground with the other films, which is saying a lot.

For the pros, Harrison Ford does an amazing job, and he’s the only legacy Lucas film character I feel was done properly. He’s definitely changed since the last films, but so has the audience. The plot is pretty solid, the time travel aspect wasn’t handled poorly, to my surprise. The first 20 minutes are the best, they feel right out of a classic Indi movie. John Williams score is also amazing throughout. My biggest criticism is Helena. Her character is incredibly unlivable personally, and her character seems to change for what the plot needs. She goes from completely self centered in one scene, and selfless in the next, with no character arc in between. She’s funny at times, which is a plus I guess. Thankfully, she doesn’t take the spotlight away from Indi overall, which I’m happy about. Despite not being a perfect film, Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny is a solid end to the series, and light years better than crystal skull. Expand

The strengths are strong though. I think the first hour+ is great, and the last 30 minutes are great, but it had a bit of a soggy mid-section. I say soggy, in particular, because some of it took place over water. Setting aside some pacing issues, I was often entertained by this film which is....why I go to the movies, and why I watch certain ones again and again. I think this fits nicely into the pantheon of Harrison Ford's career, with a great performance as "old Indy" that is equal parts tough, humorous and brave (Indy's character traits). I found it inspiring how well he stepped back into this role. He might have done this for a million reasons, and maybe even $20million reasons, but at the end of the day I like to think he did this for himself and for the fans. One last Indiana Jones adventure. How can anyone hold that against him, or the filmmakers? It's always a convoluted situation when a Studio gets behind a big tentpole franchise to put out a movie costing hundreds of millions of dollars.....but as movie fans I think it's important to not look a gift horse in the mouth. Is Dial of Destiny perfect? Of course not! Most Indy movies are not (except Last Crusade, which is just about a perfect sequel). But what we have here is a good movie with great moments, punctuated by some -- at worst -- decent, but watchable passages. Expand

At a reported cost of $300 million, this is the most expensive rehash of 1980s Indy tropes ever made. If you are eight years old now, it will make you want to play the video game (which is in the works). This may be it's main reason for existing, to feed the franchise. As a critic, I'm aware it's a script in search of a soul; or, which has given up on having a soul. As a fan, I felt like I was time-traveling back to the first three Indy's for a fourth. There is not any acknowledgement of how audiences and the world has changed since the 1980s. In this Indy5 is "opium for the masses" in a world desperately in need of local, regional and national mobilization against corporate monopoly governing making our world a dystopia. I think most Indy fans will appreciate the Indy-flavored opium and admire the amazing effort and professionalism which is up on the screen. Expand

It is a "dry" film in the sense that it is technically flawless but has very little humor and practically no "horror" scenes. Very pleased to report that they were all talking a load of rubbish. This was a very good and thoroughly entertaining movie, with all of the complaints I'd heard about, non existent. The first 25 minutes flashback in 1944 is pure Indiana Jones gold then we settle in for the next 2 hours with an interesting adventure with a slightly different tone to the others because of the new era Indy finds himself in and the character's age. This is not a criticism. What I enjoyed was watching Indy's confidence grow as the movie went on. He starts off feeling very old and useless, but is given a new lease of life when a new adventure falls at his feet. When he first is flung into action, we see him hesitate and second guess himself thinking he can't do it, but his confidence increases with each scene and soon he is back in control. Its a fascinating journey to watch. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a fun character too and is nothing like the stories we were led to believe online. The pair work well together on screen and the banter is fun. I really recommend this film. Don't listen to You Tubers who's opinions are rendered useless because of their anti-Disney, anti-Kennedy agenda, nor the stuck up Cannes critics. This is a really good fun adventure movie for the whole family to enjoy. Is it as good as Raiders or Temple of Doom? No, because those movies were the pinnacle of perfection and nothing would ever touch those classics. But it's leaps and bounds better than Crystal Skull, and this may be controversial to some, but I rate this higher than Last Crusade. Expand

The original trilogy are classics that have inspired so many other filmmakers and their creations. Despite the lavish budget spent on the film and its action sequences, most of this film felt derivative of the original trilogy and many films that were inspired by the legendary hero. Let’s get to the negative parts: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls sadly started a trend that was continued in this instalment: its overuse of CGI. Indy is essentially an ‘analog series’. Cruise with his MI series and the last batch of Bond films understood this. The action sequences sadly gave a sense of an uncanny valley as many of the sequences are given this treatment, more so in the 1st half of this film. However, putting that aside, the film makers and Ford themselves have a great passion for this character and it shows. Despite what may be an untold amount of studio interference, Mangold and co were allowed go off the rails in the 3rd act and took Indy in a different direction, and this saves the picture for me. Ford himself gave this role his all, knowing that this will be his final hurrah as the adventurer. So, is it worth a watch? For sure. But like any other older music bands whose new music has never reached the peak of their original works, so is the ‘fate’ of the Indiana Jones series. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The hatred for this movie is unjustified. It is far better than Crystal Skull. Quite obviously it doesn’t match up to the original three but is far more in tune with the spirit of Raiders. The opening twenty minutes are brilliant save for a few angles where the illusion falls down slightly (and they cannot de-age his voice). Indy’s character arc is very poignant- a broken man living in a society that’s passed him by who wants to give up but is ultimately rebuilt. It’s too long - shaving 20 minutes or so would have greatly improved the pace of the film and thus the film itself. Fleabag is fine - I was more annoyed by Teddy who is a poor man’s Short Round and the character really isn’t necessary. Ditto Antonio. Some will hate the ending though I actually thought it was done very well in the context of the story they’d set up and if we’re being objective really isn’t any more over-the-top than evil spirits flying out of a gold box and killing Nazi’s, water from a cup curing a gunshot wound or a massive UFO emerging from a jungle…I won’t give spoilers but most have clocked the time travel idea but don’t worry this isn’t Back To The Future and it works quite cleverly for the narrative (many will miss the subtle nod to Sean Connery). I went in with low expectations but was pleasantly entertained. Again, it’s fine, calm down people, enjoy it for what it is. There’s a lot of vintage Indy here: belting Nazis, exotic locations, tomb raiding, an actual ancient artefact being the McGuffin and something the critics haven’t picked up on- there is no “cheesiness” in this movie. Some amusing moments but nothing that will make you cringe. Nothing will ever be as bad as using a fridge to survive a nuclear blast or that little cretin doing a Tarzan swinging through the jungle with monkeys… everyone blasts woke Disney but - guess what- Indy is allowed to use his gun and have a raiders style shoot out with Nazis here (he wasn’t allowed to in Crystal Skull if you remember- didn’t shoot anyone). When I think of how much damage some legacy sequels did to iconic 80s franchises (Terminator, Die Hard, Aliens etc) Dial of Destiny doesn’t devastate the Indian Jones legacy as many are claiming. Every couple of years I put Crystal Skull back on to give it another chance and never get to the end because it’s so ridiculously bad. I won’t be feeling like that with Dial of Destiny and will happily kick back one Sunday afternoon and enjoy it again when it drops on Disney plus. Expand
