The overabundance of CGI is annoying; the plot is very convoluted, and the runtime is exhausting, but I think the Ford/Waller-Bridge pairing has good moments. The third act, of course, is totally bonkers, and maybe not in the best way. The movie feels too repetitive with so many similar chases. Also, the ending is a little anti-climactic, but I get what Mangold and the writers tried to do with the character and his ties to history. Anyway, not the send-off I wanted for Indy. Expand

The adventure starts with a Nazi encounter (what else?) when the titular object is lost. Fast forward to the 70s, when Jones is retiring and his goddaughter shows up (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) with news of the location of that device. As expected, the narrow escapes and chases are numerous. Most of them are rather unexciting and shot/edited in the chaotic style where you can't tell what's happening. The dialogue never sparkles and the characters are uninteresting stereotypes. The final act just completely abandons all reality and interest. While there is lots of action, it never reaches the level of surprise, tension or fun that we've come to expect. Expand

There is no magic. There is no originality. The chase scenes are long and boring. Still a thousand times better than the Crystal Skull but not by much. The ending is also a bit weak.

Not much of a movie. It takes everything from the previous movies and downgrades it. Just plain bad.

The action was pretty good, but it was pretty much the only part of the movie that was pretty good (well, one surprise in the ending was pretty funny too, though I am not sure if that was intentional). The story has more plotholes in it than Swiss cheese, to the point where every ten minutes me and my friend would laugh about one ridiculous plothole or another. Events happen that contradict all logic and characters have some weird ability to be exactly where the plot needs them to be without any logical explanation for them being there. Some characters were also so pointless that one wonders why they were even in the movie. As an Action-Adventure movie, the action was pretty good but the adventure made no sense. Expand

The first 15 minute action scene was amazing. But it was all downhill from there.

The positives: it looks incredible. Set design, props and costume design, filmography, sound design, music scores, action sequences, visual FX, everything is outstanding. The artists and technical wizards who create these films should rightly feel proud of what they're doing. The negatives: the script is worse than you can imagine. Disjointed plot that lurches from one scene to another, awkward dialogues that tell you what just happened mere moments ago, and utterly cringeworthy one-liners like "I stole it. It's called capitalism". What kind of mentally stunted ignorant writer thinks that's funny or clever? It's just embarrassing. It's the sort of mumbled nonsense you'd expect from a petulant teenager.

There's a writers strike going on right now and honestly the best thing for the industry would be for them all to find new lines of work. None of the writers in Hollywood are worth a single penny. The film industry would be better off with an AI writing the scripts, because the human writers are incapable of doing the job.

The whole endeavour is interesting and honestly you feel like you KNOW what the people behind it were trying to achieve. However, they did not manage to deliver. While de-aging still looks flimsy, it was fine. Harison delivers an acting perfection and you can see how much he loves this character. Everyone delivers and on paper they are all doing a great job. The story, to the most part feels like a best-of collection of 1-3, perhaps a bit too much at times. But, in the end, the movie feels like everyone on the writing room just said "yes lets put that in too" "yes, that too" and it ended up being... this movie. It is a long movie, and if it had at least 30 less minutes, it would deserve a 5. I don't know if it is worse than The Crystal Skull. That movie needs a few deletions of scenes and it is watchable. This IS watchable but in the end, really, really, REALLY weird. Not because it goes wild, but because the reasons it does are not well executed, promoted, prepared, make really an impact. Expand

He's too old for the role. He's supposed to be tough, virile, resourceful but also smart and bookish. It just doesn't work and PWB in no way fills the void.

It's not 0 out of 10 though and sure as hell isn't anywhere close to 10 out of 10.

Can you correlate something that has entertainment merits but not thrills? I've been thinking about it a lot. In my opinion that's what happens to this latest installment of Indiana Jones. Yes it has its degree of appeal but it doesn't elicit any excitement. Nearly $300 million dollars were spent on a story that feels empty, unfocused and worse, a conspicuous lack of motivation.
My God, it's clear that Harrison Ford himself didn't want to be there. It's noticeable that even for that reason Phoebe Waller-Bridge seems to have been given a lot of starring weight. Even poor Mads Mikkelsen once again ends up as a tedious, one-dimensional villain. It's terrible to see this actor wasted in english-language films. As I said, the entertainment dimensions are present. In this case I give special mentions to the chase sequence in Tangier and the whole opening sequence of the film. From there on the rest leaves much to be desired. And in this case it is fair to compare it with its predecessors. Even the absence of Spielberg in the director's chair plays an important role in the mediocre results of this film.

For the weight it carries and the franchise it represents, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny stands as a downright disappointment and one of the biggest letdowns of the year. It has only earned the other half star because of its scale and production values, but when the time comes and this film is added to the collection when it hits the physical format, believe me it won't matter whether it is there or not.

In this fifth and supposedly (and VERY MUCH hopefully) final outing for the famed archeologist, Indiana Jones finds himself teaming up with his estranged goddaughter (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) in the late 60s to uncover an ancient dial artifact belonging to Archemedes that can supposedly *rolls eyes*... Allow time travel. So, he must stop a group of Nazis from uncovering the artifact before they can travel back in time to the early days of WWII to reverse their defeat. Now I love Indiana Jones and his adventures as much as the next person. Of course, that only applies to the first three films, which are far and out the best and most superior. I'm with the majority of people who'd much rather forget the fourth film ever even happened. So therefore, you can probably imagine my reluctance and skepticism going into this one. I often made jokes years ago when the film was first announced as being in development that it would be called 'Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Missing Dentures at the Nursing Home'... Cause let's face it, Harrison Ford's no spring chicken anymore to say the least. Add to this the fact that not only was Spielberg not returning to finish things off himself, but instead James Mangold was brought on board (who I always thought seemed like such a random choice of a director for a film like this.) And if that STILL didn't sound bad enough, hearing that they were going to de-age Ford for several scenes obviously didn't sit well with me at all, since that sort of technological and creative choice for a film is always either hit or miss (it was very much a miss in this case.) In case you can't already tell, I did not enjoy this film very much at all. What started off as a promising enough first half quickly took a nosedive in the second half and especially the third act. Once the time travel aspect was introduced, I was ready to be done with the movie. I know Indiana Jones is all about seeking out the abnormal and paranormal with his ancient artifacts, but c'mon! Time travel!? Just judging from the title of this film alone, I begged and pleaded to myself that it wouldn't be time travel like I feared, and that's exactly what I got. That's on the same level of ridiculous as the aliens from the previous film! And while there's nothing quite as absurd as a fridge getting nuked this time around, rest assured, there's plenty of other absurd "That definitely should've killed him" moments sprinkled throughout. Really, the only positives I can give this film is the charismatic performances of Waller-Bridge, though her character simply felt like a Karen Allen/Marion clone, and she even had her own little Short round ripoff following her around for much of the film too. Also worth noting is the return of Jonathan Rhys Davies as Sallah was also welcome. Ford on the other hand looks miserable throughout the whole thing and like he doesn't even wanna be there, and at his age, who can blame him? His paycheck must've been large enough for them to talk back into one more. Overall, it's absurd, it's off the wall, and it features time travel, something that doesn't belong in an Indiana Jones movie at all. I had low expectations going into this one, and all my fears and doubts about being able to give Dr. Jones a satisfying close were all but confirmed. Hard to say whether I dislike this one more than the fourth or vice versa, because they're both on par with each other in terms of bad. In my eyes, this franchise ended over 30 years ago with 'The Last Crusade', and I'm perfectly content to think of it as such from this point forward. Expand

Every 'Indiana Jones' movie has had at least one memorable moment while this one has none, which is pretty surprising since even 'Crystal Skull' had fridge scene (which was memorable, but for the wrong reasons). It feels pretty sanitized for an Indiana Jones movie as well, as we never see any of the goofy gruesome death scenes for the villians. Wasn't really bothered by the de-aged Harrison Ford, nor did I get any 'woke' vibes that some people are complaining about. The CGI wasn't terrible, but it did get a bit distracting during the train sequence, especially since a lot of it could have been done with practical effects.

Ford and Waller-Bridge have moments that are almost interesting, but for the most part it's a pretty tepid pairing in the movie, as is the inclusion of discount Short-Round. Kind of wish they had just brought Mutt back, but it is what it is. The villain is pretty middle of the road as well, though I'm still trying to figure out how he survived being smacked in the face by a pole while falling off a speeding train. As far as the whole time travel thing goes, it's not bad (WAY better than aliens), but I think it should have been handled differently. Overally, pretty 'meh.' Not the worst thing ever, but save your money and rent/stream it. Any die hard fans of the franchise are going to be massively disappointed, but perhaps less so than they were with 'Crystal Skull.'

It does have some nostalgia and Easter eggs thrown in. Unfortunately Indiana Jones is treated in a similar way Luke Skywalker was. A shadow of his former self, depressed, no confidence and just downtrodden. How a character who has seen and experienced the amazing things Indiana witnessed could just end up a bum is beyond me. But of course don't worry a strong independent woman comes along and just craps all over him through out the movie. Indiana Jones deserved better his ending should of been epic what a waste. Let's hope the upcoming game can save the franchise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What's the worst thing a film can be? Boring! And that's what this film is...

FYI there will be spoilers for this but no-one is watching this film so I'm not worried......

Good things:

The first 10 mins are really good....make it seem like this is going to be a good film.....what a tease this is!

Harrison Ford is the best thing in it. Some of his acting actually made me tear up a tiny bit!

Music is just as good as ever, but it's John Williams so hardly ever worried about that

Bad things:

My dear sweet baby Jesus is Phoebe Waller-Bridge just infuriating. Why do Lucasfilms like to make their older male protagonists useless in comparison to their younger British female newcomers (I'm looking at you Rey!). She literally says "I'm a better archaeologist than you!" TO INDIANA JONES!!!!

Some of the dialogue is just awful.....Indy says "I don't believe in magic, but some of things I've seen....I have no explanation for".......so what about the other 3 films (I don't count Crystal Skull) with the Ark, glowing MAGIC stones and the Holy bloody Grail?!?!?!

The films waaaaaay too long.....I was bored so went out for a pee half way through, came back and nothing had happened.....I never normally go to pee during a movie.....well if its good!

The plot is dumb. The mcguffin for this film is the titular Dial Of Destiny which is a clock that can make the user travel back in time and some Nazi reminants want to travel back in time, kill Hitler, and then take over so they don't lose the war......but it can only time travel back to 212BC.....I was sat there just thinking "Is this movie over yet?"...Indy also gets framed for murder and it never gets resolved? Like they're expecting a sequel (I doubt that, this movie is flopping hard in the box office and needs to make 750mill to make a small profit)

Anyway, I could go on all day about more bad things but I don't want to waste my time and yours (pun intended)

4/10 I'd say wait till its on Disney plus but you can skip it......never thought I'd say this but, bring on the Barbie film....it looks fun!

Alright Indiana Jones fans we’re back again for Indy’s last adventure, yes I know we said that the last time but this time it really is the last chance to see Harrison Ford as the iconic archaeologist on the big screen. So despite what you’veAlright Indiana Jones fans we’re back again for Indy’s last adventure, yes I know we said that the last time but this time it really is the last chance to see Harrison Ford as the iconic archaeologist on the big screen. So despite what you’ve heard from the reviews, if you’re a fan of these movies then you really do have to see this one too. Sure we all sat through Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so if you survived that then you can sit through this I promise you.

Indiana races against time to retrieve a legendary artifact that can change the course of history. In typical fashion, he’s not the only one looking for the artifact. Enter Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Boyd Holbrook. No I’m not listing Antonio Banderas with the cast, despite his name being all over the posters, he was barely used, what a waste. We meet Indy as a bitter old man, in the middle of a divorce and just about to retire. Clearly his best days are behind him and the last thing he expects is to go on another adventure to retrieve an ancient artifact before a bunch of Nazis use it for “insert evil plan here.” Yes the Nazis are back again, they worked so well as villains the last times, why not use them again. Harrison Ford, check. Nazis, check. The hat, check. The whip, check. Spielberg…eh not this time. Fear not, you’re in the capable hands of director James Mangold. Remember what he did to Wolverine when he made Logan? Well he didn’t quite reach that standard here unfortunately, but hey at least it’s better than The Crystal Skull. And sure look, we’re all going to have our own ranking of the Indiana Jones movies, I definitely believe the 4th is the worst of them but no matter how you feel about this one we’re all agreeing that Raiders of the Lost Ark is the best by a long shot. Honestly, I never really loved any of the sequels, and please Temple of Doom fans don’t kill me, they have their moments but Raiders was an absolute masterpiece, I rewatch it every Christmas but with the sequels and now The Dial of Destiny I can’t see myself looking at them again.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is fun and worth a cinema trip for the fans of the franchise. It is nostalgic to see Harrison Ford take on his most iconic character once more and as I’ve said countless times already, nostalgia sells. It’s entertaining and a bit of fun, even if it is moving from set piece to set piece like a National Treasure movie. Despite a running time of 2 hours 34 minutes you don’t actually feel the time pass. There’s enough going on to keep you engaged though it doesn’t quite have the same magic as the original. It also took a very unexpected turn in the final act. And I’m not sure it really worked for me, it felt too out of place for an Indiana Jones movie but I didn’t hate it. Mads Mikkelsen plays a formidable villain as always. He never puts in a bad performance and he was a perfect choice for an Indiana Jones bad guy. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was a good addition to the cast and in no way deserves the harsh comments doing the rounds on certain websites. There’s almost a cartoonish level of violence going on in The Dial of Destiny, I’ve never seen quite so many characters getting brutally injured and not even showing a bruise. I know we need to suspend belief a little bit during these action/adventure movies but The Dial of Destiny was definitely pushing it.

It’s sad to see that the times of casting a different actor to play a younger version of a character is now over. With modern CGI, we’re seeing more and more of the digital de-aging of famous actors now for flashback scenes (and in some cases, the entire movie). And sure it didn’t look too bad here for the opening of The Dial of Destiny but there are a few moments during that sequence where it looked a little like a video game. In fact the CGI throughout The Dial of Destiny looked a little dodgy, and I’m not about to criticise Harrison Ford for not riding a horse through a parade of people, the dude’s 80 but if you’re going to rely on so much CGI then it really needs to look better and less like a video game cutscene.

While the newest addition to the Indiana Jones franchise won’t exactly blow audiences away it makes for an entertaining cinema trip and should keep the whole family engaged. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has been announced as the last Indy movie so let’s leave it at that. It’s done now, no more sequels, or prequels, no more, it’s done. We’ve said goodbye to Indiana Jones three times now, I think that’s more than enough. At the end of the day, this was never going to live up to people’s expectations and it’s impossible to reach the standard set by Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s a very average action/adventure movie that gives another farewell to an iconic movie legend. Recommended for all the Indiana Jones fans or anyone who enjoyed National Treasure and/or Uncharted.

O final ficou absurdamente lindo.

After watching The Dial of Destiny I can definitively say that it is incredibly...average. The film has some entertaining and fun sequences, some entertaining and dumb sequences, and a lot of 'okay' run of the mill action. The pacing of the film isn't terrible (although I do understand the complaints criticizing the movies lengthy run time) and the performances and set pieces are actually pretty solid. This is not a bad ending to the Indiana Jones saga, but it is a somewhat unnecessary one. I would recommend watching the film later down the line on streaming, you'll probably get some entertainment out of it. Expand

The film captures the nostalgic spirit of the series, but falls short in terms of originality and depth. Despite its flaws, it offers enough excitement and adventure to satisfy fans of the iconic archaeologist. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They really should’ve just renamed the movie Indiana Chick replacement. She already knew everything and she was also an expert swashbuckler and stuff. All they had to do was take the dial from the library. Indiana Jones was literally the most pointless character in the movie. And the dial didn’t actually do anything except send you back to Ancient Rome after flying through a portal. Which means, the dial was literally pointless too. Expand

They again made a pretty bad plot that is way over the top and waited to long making the movie. Now Harrison Ford does still a good job but is a bit old for a charismatic hero role in an action movie. A bit dissapointing end for such a great franchise. Altough the movie is still worth watching. Bit of a let down, although I enjoyed the bit players in the movie, Toby Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, John Rhys-Davies and fun cameo by Karen Allen. Felt the film's script was a little cheesy, too many chase scenes, movie is overly reliant on CGI and the de-aging of Harrison Ford, I felt, was distracting and didn't do the movie justice. My favorite film of the Indiana Jones franchise is still Raiders of the Lost Ark. Nothing beats the original. Dial of Destiny lacks the magic and heroics of the first film, but it does provide entertainment and a solid supporting cast. Expand

While she does spend too much time providing unfunny comic relief, her character is in no way disrespectful to men. That being said, I have mixed feelings about “Dial of Destiny”. Early in the film, there is a thrilling chase scene that takes place at a parade in New York. It was really cool to see Indy in a 1960’s setting. Unfortunately, the entire second act feels lethargic, since it takes place in the middle of the ocean.
I have more thoughts, but I’d either be beating a dead horse with all the reviews already posted, or giving spoilers. Overall, I prefer “Dial of Destiny” over “Crystal Skull”. Whereas that movie was utterly mediocre, there are things to like in this one. But don’t expect it to be as good as the classic trilogy.

Every bit as entertaining as it was sacrilegious. Dial of destiny is an impressive use of the original film cast shot quite nicely with a decent effort to keep the pacing close to the Spielberg style. Sadly the screenplay and casting of Phoebe as an unattractive mary sue sidekick and a bizarre focus on some random CIA agent character really dragged the film along IMO. Still considering how much worse I had expected this to be I was pretty impressed.

I completely stopped watching with the action race scene in Maroc was accelerated everywhere, and it was very apparent. The acting was average at best. It was exciting, adventurous and just plain delightful to watch! The 4th entry which came out 19 years after the 3rd movie was unfortunately not as entertaining but it did have a solid ending that felt like a finale. So to my surprise, 15 years later we now have a 5th entry with an even OLDER Indy! Is this a step up from the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? or is it another pointless sequel?

The first 20 minutes of this movie is a flashback sequence with a de-aged Harrison Ford. It is one of the best sequences in this movie. It gave me a lot of the vibes and energy of the original trilogy. The stunts, staging, and action were classic Indiana Jones. There are some other great action set pieces as well such as the parade sequence and the Tuk Tuk chase which were thoroughly entertaining. The cinematography is also a huge step up from the 4th entry. The movie is pleasant to look at for the majority of the runtime. I am also thankful that there isn't as much CGI and greenscreen as it was in the previous entry. There is still CGI but it isn't as terrible. Additionally, The legendary composer, John Williams, returns and continues to deliver an epic score in Dial of Destiny. On that note, Harrison Ford still has it. He is still great as Indy and I don't get the 'phoning it in' feel that I see with a lot of older actors. This Indy is not as upbeat as he was in the original trilogy and some would even say grumpy. I don't particularly mind it and it was great seeing Harrison deliver some strong, poignant moments as the character. He still has the quip moments that you would expect and Harrison still manages to do it so naturally. Mads Mikkelson plays the Nazi antagonist and I love it. It is genuinely perfect casting. Boyd Holbrook plays the henchman and he is terrific at being so hateable which I enjoyed. Antonio Banderas also has a small role as a friend of Indy and I liked him a lot in his limited role to the point that I wish we got more of him. John Rhys-Davies and Karen Allen return as Sallah and Marion respectively. Both are just cameos but it was nice seeing them back in the final entry.

Sadly, this movie has plenty of issues. The de-aging is just very distracting. Visually, it looks all right but when Indy talks, it looks off. Even worse is the fact that the voice is still that of an 80-year-old Harrison Ford. It does not match the younger face which creates this jarring distraction. This entry is also the longest at 154 minutes and it is very noticeable. Every previous entry was 120 minutes or less and still successfully told a competent story. This one did not need to be that long and could easily cut 20-30 minutes off the runtime. There are so many slow scenes and padding that drag this movie down.

The most annoying aspect of this entry is the sidekick characters. Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays Helena Shaw, Indy's goddaughter. She might be the most dislikable sidekick character in this franchise. Her character is written in a way where she is never truthful, or genuine and is always using Indy in some way for her agenda. She is just constantly at odds with Indy which makes her so annoying. She does get her character development but it comes right near the end of the movie which is way too late. Her development isn't built up organically and just comes off as rather sudden. Even by the end, I am not sure if she even changed that much because her tone comes off as quite arrogant. There are also a lot of pointless characters that didn't add much apart from making the film longer. There is a second sidekick who is a kid named Teddy. He isn't remotely as enjoyable to watch as Short-Round and just felt like he was there so Helena had someone else to talk to. There is also a CIA agent character who added nothing to the plot but took screen time for some reason. Toby Jones plays Helena's dad and is a friend to Indy but he was never in any previous movies. It just comes off as weird to introduce a new friend in a final entry. Overall, this is another disappointing and pointless sequel. There are times when this is way better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but also many times when it isn't. This entry was created to give a better send-off than Crystal Skull but I don't think it was successful in that. It is still a fine satisfying ending but so was The Last Crusade and Crystal Skull as well. So this entry didn't add anything. Still, it's enjoyable enough of a watch but I hope for the love of God that this is TRULY the FINAL entry.

1) Since linguistics and narratology have distinguished syntagmatic and paradigmatic for over a century, beginning the first 2/3 of a movie with an interminable chase makes no sense and postpones the start of the story to when the viewer has already been distracted thinking back to Jolie who in "Tomb Raider" (2001) trained hopping from one wall to another of her own villa.
2) De-aging still produces as mediocre effects as Hanks' motion capture in "The Polar Express" (2004).
3) In the name of neofeminism do you want to include a woman as a co-protagonist? Look for someone that lives up to Sean Connery's charisma, Phoebe Waller-Bridge certainly isn't.
4) In the role of the antagonist, Mads Mikkelsen gives his most anonymous performance.
5) Banderas not reported.
6) Extracted from mothballs and formaldehyde, Harrison Ford gives the worst of his career.
7) Spielberg may also be of Jewish origin, not for this reason he is justified in always identifying evil with Nazism.
8) Some emotion comes only when the feature film slows down and allows the deepening of the relationships between the characters, from the "Ear of Dionysus" cavern onwards. "Nobody memorizes every page of their dead father's notebooks for the money" is a joke that is worth the price of the ticket or viewing. The Syracusan part is also unpredictable, iconic and exciting with the meeting between Indy and Archimedes.

This is a film that was made to be just entertaining enough to be interesting but this is in now way a good Indiana Jones film, it's average compared to what we had yes even crystal skull.

So why do I give it a 6?, there are some good themes here, they are consistent but everything else is just bad.

You name it.
CGI, music,Villian, characters, story, logic, all of those are done poorly.

Disney please leave these franchises alone, they had their time before make something new. As for you Kathleen, it is clear that you have no idea what you are doing, I still wonder why George even gave his beloved franchises to Disney in the first place, only to be mistreated.

That's all I'm saying, the next thing I may be interested in is the Bethesda IJ game. But if Starfield is just OK, does that mean the IJ game is gonna be mediocre?

Talking about this makes me sad so I'll stop.
