There's too many superhero movies like this. This is not one of them. We loved the movie. We saw it last night, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. I would gladly go see it again while still in theatres. It is very rare that I ever would want to do that, so that means the movie was good. It was very entertaining. Kept my interest throughout. I thought it had a perfect mix of comedy, action, and drama. I loved the soundtrack. Rocket Racoon's special effects were great. I joked that they must have spent all their money on this because the makeup on some characters was a bit subpar. It looked like they didn't hire enough makeup people and they rushed through certain characters. Makeup aside, this is a very entertaining movie, you should go see it. Just please, don't stay for the scene after the credits, it was so stupid. Everyone else sat and waited, and it was so dumb, there was a huge sigh of "ughhhh" throughout the theatre. Don't waste your time. But the rest of the movie was great (including the scene that happens near the beginning of the ending credits.) Expand

ThisThe latest Marvel mashup brings a ragtag gang of unusual characters together to save the universe. Led by a sweet, swaggering human (Chris Pratt), the group includes a tree creature, a green woman, a literal hulk and an armed raccoon. This opens things up for irreverent humor, which isn't always that funny. Action is inevitable, but most of it's fast & noisy without standing out. There's also lots to look at, including dozens of fun creatures and some cool design. The playful tone and unusual individuals make it entertaining, but the underlying lack of originality keeps it from soaring. Expand

When I first saw the concept art, I couldn't believe we were were gonna have a Marvel movie with a TALKING RACOON! I was like WTF? I was skeptical and in slight disbelief.

However, when I saw the first trailer I was pretty much sold on the idea. Make mine Marvel! (Ugh, that sounds so tacky and stupid. Lol.) The film isn't pure quirkiness and comedy, but can be serious and sad too. I actually felt pretty sad at the beginning of the film, and near the end, because of some certain SPOILERS. However, GOTG's specialty is comedy, and the way Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Racoon, and Gamora meet is pretty funny. I loved all the characters: Star-Lord/Peter Quill (another Marvel playboy); Drax the Destroyer (who has more lines than the marketing campaign/promotional would suggest); Gamora (the second green skinned character in the MCU), Groot (a very lovable and protective Tree-like sentient creature) and Rocket (who I would love to see exchange some sarcastic witty banter with Tony Stark/Iron Man/Robert Downey Jr). The villains however, suffer a common problem that plagues many MCU villains: lack of character development and general clichéness. Ronan, Nebula, and Korath (especially the last two) don't do much and are little more than background characters.

These "cosmic Avengers" didn't have solo films to introduce each character, so not ALL the characters have the ALL screentime they deserve. But GOTG does pretty well. Most of the comedy is good, but some is SLIGHTLY awkward and feels kinda forced.

Still, those little things can do nothing to stop GOTG from being a fun and enjoyable experience. Some thought it would be Marvel's riskiest box office bet, but it definitely succeded and has a opening weekend gross close to Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.

P.S, I think you'll either be amused or pissed off at the pre/post credits scenes in GOTG. lol. Also, cannot wait for The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron! I loved the AoU poster and trailer at SDCC, as well as the BvS teaser.

If you liked this review, I have also reviewed the 2014 films Sharknado 2: The Second One, Dawn of the Planets of the Apes, Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Edge of Tommorow, X-Men Days of Future Past, Godzilla, Transcendence, Blended, The Lego Movie, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and more! I also reviewed the TV shows The Last Ship, Gang Related, Crisis, 24: Live Another Day, I Wanna Marry Harry, Marvel's Agents of Shield, The 100, and Sleepy Hollow.

Goodbye! Sincerely, Alexg732.

While not exactly original in terms of plot or themes, the way this film has been put together makes this the MUST-SEE superhero movie of the summer. Much, much better than I anticipated, and already thought it would be a good movie going into it. The characters are quirky, interesting, and best of all lovable. The usual fun banter and chemistry between all the cast that is typical of Marvel movies nowadays is present. While it definitely put a lot more emphasis on being funny, this movie doesn't skimp on the action, though admittedly some of the sequences could have been better. Stunning visual effects are par for the course nowadays for these superhero movies, and this movie is no exception. Overall, I'm planning to see it again this weekend, along with a lot of other people it seems.

i'd give the movie a 4 but at least the boys liked it so if yoiu have a couple of teens lying around take them to see it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don't go in believing the hype. Worth a matinee pricetag but not the blockbuster hollywood so desperately wants us to believe it is and clearly needs this summer (the worst hollywood summer season in years.)

The heroes of the movie consist of a talking raccoon, a green woman assassin, a muscle bound mercenary, a talking tree and a funny human front man. The movie seemed to be confused on whether they wanted to make a a superhero film for the kids, a serious film targeting adults, or a rom-com teenager film. It felt like the movie never settled in to a theme and about a dozen times I found myself thinking "that was out of place."

For example, the main hero, played by Chris Pratt, starts off the journey on an abandoned planet where he turns on his 80's walkman, dancing and using the native lizard creatures for microphones to find an orb to make some coin from a collector. Its very fun, light and seems like a great movie that even the kids can come to. It then bounces towards the middle of the movie where the drunken raccoon "rocket" breaks down over his history, saying he didn't want to be created and at one point even tells his co-hero that he doesn't care that he lost his wife and daughter, in a move that probably sounded better written than they pulled off on film. Then add in and awkwardly long flip off scene from the main hero to the camera, an awkward blacklight "sperm joke, and finishing the movie with a "We're the guardians of the galaxy, **** punchline.

I did find myself however enjoying the special effects and was surprisingly impressed by the acting from a tree, raccoon and former WWE wrestler.

Worth seeing once, but it could definitely have done without all the hype.

In Gunn’s indie filmmaker hands, he did an excellent job with capturing the old comics and bringing them to life with this film. We get a Marvel film that is deliciously witty and off-beat, keeping the movie flowing with ease between happy; entertainingly hilarious parts and emotional, heart-breaking parts. All of those amazing qualities emit from the five characters that serve as our band of misfit heroes, with actors that were casted with perfection for their respectable roles. With all that said, this movie is truly a remarkable masterpiece of everything that you would want from a Marvel movie; that should be enjoyed by everyone. 5 Big Stars!!! Expand

I'm very happy to say this movie not only surpassed my expectations, but it blew me away. The comedy is spot on, all characters have amazing timing and genuinely funny and unique personalities. Chris Pratt is hilarious and a natural leading man, charming, funny, and pretty damn badass as he goes from a Han Solo type to a true Marvel superhero, worthy of the name Star-Lord.
I brought along my wife and another couple to this movie. My friend's wife was pretty sure she'd be falling asleep during this one, as it's definitely not in her genre (she generally likes movies based on Jane Austen novels). I was glad to see that everybody in my group was thoroughly entertained by this film. It's got great action, a very cool story (I don't know why on Earth some critics would call the plot confusing, it isn't), amazing characters that you can't help but love and care about, and more laughs than most comedies contain.
This is the first movie in a long time that had me quoting the lines as I left the theater. I actually wanted to see it again right away, and will definitely, definitely get it on Blu-Ray. Best movie I've seen all year, and as close to a perfect Summer movie as anyone could ask for.

Don't you hate it when the whole world is caught up in a cultural moment, where everything just seems right with a movie, and you just don't feel it? Maybe I'm jaded, maybe I'm out of the times, or maybe I just think entertainment needs to "earn it"a bit more. Everything here is certainly in earnest and yes I had some laughs, especially with Rocket Raccoon and Groot (who are so good, they should have their own trilogy), but the film felt empty, poorly scripted (especially for Pratt's Starlord, leaving him with little to do but be cute, which he oozes effortlessly) and just creatively bankrupt. In particular, the device of the walkman could have been brilliant, but the filmmakers lack originality in their music choices and simply coast on songs that have already had their massive cultural moment (in particular "Hooked on a Feeling" which all but belongs to Quentin Tarantino, not to mention momentous choices from "Boyz in the Hood" and a PSH scene from "Almost Famous"). It would be one thing if Gunn was either 80 years old, or 22, but Gunn came of age with these other films (I'm assuming he's seen these touchstones) so his borrowing feels much more like laziness than homage.

I am also shocked that the filmmakers were unable to make Zoe Saldana, one of Hollywood's most stunningly beautiful actresses look good. Honestly, their makeup made her almost unattractive. And this is someone who blew people away in BLUE makeup and cat eyes in "Avatar", and is incredibly sexy in the 2 recent Star Trek films (where she at least had a chance to appear in her natural pigment). Fortunately she brings gravitas to an almost thankless role (except the enormous residuals), thankless because the writers seem to forget about her until she is convenient.
Mostly this is a caper that spends a great deal of time with bickering, and highlighting ways in which Pratt's character is an unredeemable jackass to just about everyone he's ever met including his dying mother, some unfortunate little alien flying creatures, his father figure Yondu (Micahael Rooker).

And once again, this is a movie where the film's funniest sequence is all but ruined by the trailer. I was bored watching the characters' introductions as previously seen in the trailer because, yep, seen it already, and it was funnier in the trailer because it had tighter editing.

As I said, there are so many problems I didn't know where to begin. I'll stop here. Go see GOTG. Enjoy it's moment. I'm sorry it somehow escaped me.

The cast of characters -- WWE wrestler Dave Bautista, who has received roles in mostly mediocre action-adventure films throughout the early '10s, might get typecasted from here on out, but he's a very welcoming addition to the Marvel universe -- has Avengers-level chemistry and the comedic timing is impeccable, it's the funniest franchise in the universe so far. The 3D actually helps craft the film's spectacular visuals for once. If the $90 million box-office revenue in its opening weekend didn't suggest otherwise, I have a feeling Guardians'll be a mainstay for a while. Expand

Dave Batista feels sort of like an after thought as Drax, but he gets plenty of his own gags as well. There are plenty of goofy comic-book universe moments, but none that are really out-of-place in the last decade's series of entries. I get the sense that there was plenty of fan-service, but that all went over my head.

The movie's only real weakness is Zoe Saldana as Gamora, whose lady-ninja love-interest typecast is rapidly getting stale. Whether in Drumline, Star Trek, Columbiana, or Avatar, she's the exact same character, and throughout Guardians she seems to be the only character not enjoying the adventure. And based on the few scenes where we see her opposite Karen Gillan (playing Nebula) it's hard not to wonder if they miscast the two of them since Gillan conveys much more anger and power while Saldana seems to be the pretty girl that barely hits someone and sends their stunt doubles flying across the room.

The Quest Is On [Assemble Your Team of Ninjas]

For me the movie is about the journey that Peter Quill [Star-Lord] makes from a small time outlaw trying making up a reputation for himself. Then he finds his true calling when he is given the chance to save the Galaxy. He teams up with a very unlikely team of “Crazy Creative Ninjas”. They don’t step back in the face of a near impossible challenge. They improvise and adapt to the challenge in very creative ways.

It’s also about owning your own identity and try to direct how others define you. Both through your actions and what thoughts you share. To do your own Storytelling about you.
You are the one doing your own Self Narration.

You are the one doing your own Self Narration - Lord Sillion

So do take care of this opportunity to define your own identities. Your brain buys what it tells itself so don’t let others define you. Be sure that you are in charge of the message that you tell your brain. And, this is important, and that it is good message.

And just like Peter Quill, remember that your are not alone. Assemble your small team of Creative Ninjas go out on adventure together. They affect you as much as you affect them. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. So chose your team of Ninjas carefully.

So go forth and tell your story to both yourself and others so that the story about you and your legend takes shape and roots first inside yourself and then spreads out from there. And help your Ninjas tell their stories. This is your Quest.

I could watch this movie over and over again. It had lots of heart and the potential is endless for Guardians of the Galaxy as a franchise, especially in the hands of director James Gunn. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot all played off of each other very well and made a likeable group of outcasts. Yondu played a nice part as well and I'm glad to see Michael Rooker doing a film like this after departed The Walking Dead. Supporting performances from Lee Pace as Ronan, and the Nova Corps Glenn Close and John C. Reilly added nice touches to the story.

This is the best effort put out thus far by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and worth making repeat viewings. Make sure to stay after the credits for a surprise cameo!

When I watched this, I had never read the comics, and I honestly didn't know what to expect, except I assumed from the poster that it would be Star Wars-esque if a bit more comics-inspired. Instead, you should probably consider it a family-oriented sci-fi action-comedy with hints of adventure.

It is smart and witty, and it caters to the general audience in a humorous without dumbing itself down. Its led by strong effects, visuals, and great performances all around. It doesn't break the Marvel Studios formula so much as it bends it, and following their strong track record that is perfectly fine.

While in this site I read negative reviews for this film first and I noticed a trend from the users: they rate acclaimed films low and panned films high. They pass of an opinion as fact, and before anyone reads reviews to decide whether or not they like the movie, I suggest just going out and making your own opinion because that is the only way you'll know for sure.

Guardians isn't on par with "The Winter Soldier" but it is still one of the best of the comic genre, and maybe even one of the best in the sci-fi one as well

First of all, it was absolutely hilarious. The only superhero movie to date that I think rivals it in pure humor is Thor 2 but that was largely thanks to one person, Kat Dennings. This film has great laughs thanks to every character. From Peter Quill constantly fighting his ego to Gamora's "who put the sticks up their butt" misunderstanding to Drax not being able to understand metaphors to Rocket's abrasive edge to Groot's incredible dialoque, they all provide laughing moments throughout the film. The action sequences were done really well, as is to be expected from Marvel these days. The plot also unfolded nicely. I was worried in the beginning that they were trying to stretch the audience's attention too thin and have too many plot elements going on at once but they merged fairly quickly and developed well. I still would've preferred for this element of the Marvel universe to stay separate from the Avengers but hey, it's still very entertaining. Expand

Chris Pratt as Peter Quill was superb,he was funny ,witty, idiotic at times, but in the end he was the movie's lead protagonist and he delivered the best of his charisma and charm on the screen.Zoe Saldana was a total badass and a very intresting addition being an assassin for the evil Thanos and Ronan ,she was hard to understand at first, but once she opens up it's quite touching and relatable.Dave Bautista, the recently fighter-turned-actor put a very good performance as Drax, his acting rivaled Dwayne Johnson's,sure his backstory was kinda cliche but in the end he comes off just as great as everyone else.Vin Diesel as Groot ,was the second best character in the group ,he only says 3 words: I AM GROOT,yet everytime he sais it ,he means different things which makes the guy, hilarious ,strong and badass. Now people say Rocket is the best character in the movie ,that when they looked at him and heard him they didn't see cgi ,they saw the most heartful, smart, lonely ,cute badass racoon ,thanks to Bradley Cooper, they didn't lie he is the best character i saw all year,he is THAT good. The villain Ronan, played wonderfully by Lee Pace, was also very memorable and threatning bad guy,he is Thanos's right hand man and he has every feature that makes a perfect villain, strong, powerful, edgy, and he also has the best villain costume design in MCU.But the real treat and the best aspect is how guardians relationship starts out and develops over the course of the movie ,they become friends ,who are willing to sacrifice themselves for each-other,and it is truly heart warming to see them all come together so well on screen ,i would even go as far as to say,i prefer them more than the avengers, and i don't even know them from comics. That says something.

Now this is writer, director james Gunn's first BIG,BRASH,summer blockbuster movie,so you must think he wouldn't be able to handle the explosive ,fast ,intense, cosmic action well, but he did absolutely as good of a job as any other director of marvel movies, seriously on par with Joss Whedon. The action is filled with stunning flying space battles, greatly choreographed fight scenes especially with Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana, the effects are among the best and 3D is just a huge visual eye candy, but when the entire team joins up with motivational speeches(under the song of cherry bomb by runaways)it is simply a marvel and awe-inspiring,as they head into battle you feel very confident for them but also very worried because of the characters' depth.

In the end Guardians of the galaxy delivers on expectations ,lives up to the hype and then some, with the best cast ever assembled, superb direction by a talented director, hilarious comedy and well-written camraderie ,this is the ultimate team that will be remembered for centuries, alongside the movie that not only raised the bar for space-adventure movies but for marvel movies as well.SIMPLY PUT .........A MASTERPIECE.

Went in with high expectations based on the trailers and buzz surrounding the movie and for the first time in a long while I left feeling that they had been exceeded and then some. The film is a brilliant mix of compelling characters, solid acting and amazing production. Chris Pratt is absolutely perfect as Star Lord. It's great to see him on the big screen in comparison to his character Andy in Parks & Recreation. I think one of the main reasons the film has done so well is the well balanced addition of off-beat humour, something which isn't a common thread in Marvel comic book movies to date. Definitely worth seeing - ignore these idiots giving it a zero - they are just desperately seeking some attention! Expand

But like most class clowns, sometimes you wish it would apply itself — because it seems capable of being so much more. This is a film that does not see itself through. And while it's a good film for almost everyone in the family, it may leave some fans wanting to see more out of this newly birthed adaptation. It's cheesy, somewhat shallow, and predictable. But it's also full of action, self-awareness, and is a fresh take on the superhero genre and overall an entertaining experience. Expand

I hate to keep giving high review scores but let me clarify, I only review things I love.

AND I FREEKING LOVED THIS MOVIE!

If I listed every scene I loved from this film I would be listing nearly every scene. To be honest I felt a few of the action scenes where a bit choppy and had to many fast cuts but A, that's personal preference and B, when you enjoy a movie this much, things like that seem like niggling issues.

The group dynamic in this movie is easily on par with the avengers and they didn't have individual movies to set up each character. This movie is a fresh of breath air, it is like the Anti Marvel movie, it simultaneously delivers everything you expect from a marvel movie (great action, over the top set pieces, excellent special effects) but delivers so much more.

This movie is one of the funniest blockbusters of recent memory not just compared to other marvel films, the pacing timing and acting from everyone involved is spot on.
But more then that this film has real heart, Nearly made me tear up a couple of times which I really didn't expect. The cast coalesce from a disparate group of misfits in to feeling like a family.

Gunn does a fantastic job of making you care for the characters and subtly subverting expectations, Ronan’s big finale being a prime example that you will instantly understand what I mean when you see it.

All of the main cast where excellent, Chris Pratt exudes such easy charm and confidence that he deserves to be called the new Han Solo, Zoe Saldona as Gamora manages to pull hidden strength from probably the most under used of the main cast and gets one of the funniest lines in the film (Kevin Bacon! I say no more).

Bradley cooper brings such vicious life and subtle humour to the angry, crazy, and tragic Rocket and has one of the most heart breaking moments in the whole movie.
A lot has been said about Vin diesel and his 1000 times of recording Groot's only Three lines (I AM GROOT) But let me be clear, I have never seen (or heard) an actor pull so much subtlety and emotion out of three words. Every time he says I AM GROOT it feels different and like it has real hidden meaning behind it (which makes sense, as Vin said his version of the script had pages and pages of what Groot was actually saying) and it really shows.
Just to clarify the relationship between Rocket and Groot is probably the strongest element of the film and both of them work perfectly, both Bradley Cooper and Vin diesel give Outstanding vocal performances. However, I feel the Special effects team deserve a special shout out, they did such a fantastic job of bringing them to life and making them seem like real believable living creatures when they could have easily ended up being ridiculous.

As much as I love Groot and Rocket I think this films real Hidden gem is Dave Bautista As Drax the Destroyer, The trailers for this film really didn’t show you a lot of Drax but let me tell you he is fantastic. I think why I love him is that he is everything you expect, brutal, quick tempered and hell bent on Revenge, but Bautista (and the script writers) infuse him with such a sly intelligence that often belies his appearance. Drax constantly surprised me with often incisive and intelligent comments and a surprising amount of heart and compassion for a brutal killing machine. Also Drax (minor spoiler ahead, but I’m sure you will have heard this before) comes from a Planet whose inhabitant’s are completely Literal minded and therefore have no understanding of metaphor or symbolism. And Gunn as director and the Bautista and the rest of the cast milk every ounce of potential humour out of it.

Whilst this may be a little more risky then most marvel movies with more instances of bad language then any other Marvel Movie (mostly hecks, damns, **** and the occasional Prick) and a few near the knuckle jokes it remains an hugely enjoyable film that the whole family can enjoy.

What you will really take away from this film, is the real sense of honour, family and heartfelt goodness that Gunn manages to pull out of this disparate bunch of thieves, thugs, murderers and Maniac’s.
The fact that Gunn manages to do so in a way that feels natural and not at all forced like a lot of other films is a real triumph, Guardians will make you laugh, it might make you cry, it will certainly make you care more about the protagonists then many block busters have ever achieved.
I don’t know if this is better then Avengers Assemble but it is at least on par and definitely funnier and more genuinely touching, With guardians 2 already confirmed Joss Whedon has some serious competition as best director in the MCU.

Lastly as a closing note, it may seem that I have given the villain’s short shrift here and I suppose I have but the reason is that whilst the villains in this film give perfectly solid and respectable performance and certainly drive the narrative forward this isn’t really there film, this film belongs to the guardian’s.

I was already extremely wowed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men: Days of Future Past, and didn't think that this obscure of a comic group could beat or be equal with the two films mentioned. I was quite wrong. Guardians of the Galaxy is a fantastic film that is one of Marvel's top 5 best films. Not only does the film feature the great action you'd expect from a marvel flick, but this film had comedic elements that were missing from many marvel films over the past few years. The Acting/Voicing by all of the main cast members (specifically Pratt and Cooper) was fantastic, giving us a very good depth of their characters. The best part of the film, however, was it's humor. The humor in this film was fantastic, making it a much funnier, lighter, and better entry than the previous two out of Marvel Studio (WDSMP), Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Thor: The Dark World. Overall, this along with the two films mentioned earlier just made this summer one f*****g fantastic summer movie season. Expand

Marvel's introduction to the cosmic story arc couldn't have been introduced better. This movie had huge shoes to fill as the only major bridge between Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron and it delivered! Thanos, Marvels most imposing and important villain was still kept on the slow burner and appeared only slightly more than he did in the Avengers post credit scene but even without him showing his true colors he was still pretty damn menacing. Also, Chris Pratt proved to the world that he is ready for a leading role in his quirky, sarcastic and comedic role. All of the supporting characters DELIVERED as well from Bautista's Drax proving his merit as an actor to Zoe Saldana proving she is fit to play the deadliest woman in the galaxy. The two that stole the entire damn movie was Rocket Racoon and Groot, they transferred flawlessly from the comics and brought heart and soul to this film. Overall this movie is a MUST SEE! Expand

That’s all I can ask for in a comic book movie, or a movie in general, is that it brings something new or creative to the table. Every moment you expect turns about-face and goes the opposite direction of what you thought would happen.

I loved each of the five main characters as each one of them were unique misfits, which is a good thing. Each of them were creative and different for a comic book movie, and a movie, in general. It took a while for me to get used to this movie with it’s rockin’ 70’s/80’s soundtrack, quirky characters, and odd, hilarious humor, but it paid off in the end because of how different it was. It was a different experience from any others I have ever had in a theater, which is the same thing I said after I had viewed The Grand Budapest Hotel.

I loved the music, characters, script, and direction of this movie. The cinematography, visual effects, and art direction of this movie also made it very visually appealing.

More homage than parody, G.O.G. takes some lines that at first seem to be written for a ultra-corn SyFy movie (not the hip ones like Sharknado, the old ones that no one should ever watch, even ironically), and makes them work. So much so, that anyone who rolls their eyes at anything in the first 20 minutes, regrets the eye roll and instantly hops on board the fun bus. The humor hits everyone, ranging from the eight year old crowd not-gross "butt" jokes to the high-intellect sarcasm jokes which pleased the soon to be 70 year old I was sitting next to. Expand

Guardians of the Galaxy is 2014's must see movie.

Perhaps a little overstuffed, the movie makes up for it with hilarious dialogue, an epic space opera tone, fantastic visuals and captivating storytelling. It has charm and a lot of heart, although its silliness can be over the top at times.

Comparable to what Star wars was to the 70's, Guardians of the Galaxy will leave its mark with a fresh story which introduces new iconic characters that are sure to become the new faces of our generation.

In my own opinion, this movie would be a 10, but for the sake of being subjective I will agree that it is more of a 9, because it does lack a cohesive plot, and under-utilizes its villain. Some movie goers may find that the wit, and charm along with the chemistry between the cast can compensate for it flaws, but for those who are expecting a more grounded and serious movie will be disappointed.

As far as its connection to the current Marvel Universe, I feel that GotG is in a league of its own, and brings something fresh to the table.

Overall, GotG is pure summer blockbuster fun with enough brains and charm to please most movie audiences.

Guardians of the Galaxy was a ton of fun from start to finish and I loved almost every minute of it! Sure the main premise has some similarities with The Avengers (e.g. the conventional plot of a villain seeking world domination, and a team of heroes putting aside their differences to stop the villain), but it more than made up for it with it's pitch-perfect cast, dazzling fight sequences, fantastic character dynamics between the main 5 leads and of course great writing! I haven't laughing at a Marvel movie so much since Thor, and it was perfect for balancing out the serious moments of the movie, maybe overstepping that balance a little but given the goofy tone it was going for; I can't blame the movie for it. For Marvel Studios to release a movie part of a little-known franchise like this: the fact that they pulled it off as well as they did is very commendable on their part. It gave me exactly what I wanted to see: an action-packed comedy in space! Expand

OH WELLL I GUESS THIS IS MY CUE TO START LAUGHING SINCE EVERYBODY ELSE IS LAUGHING. it got to the point where people were laughing and snickering at every tidbit in the movie, cause they thought that part was supposed to be a cue for the audience to laugh. nobody knew what was and what wasn't supposed to be funny!

I guess I could call the humor in this movie DRY HUMOR cause the jokes are executed with a lack of exaggeration, and dry humor doesn't make me laugh out loud. dry humor just tells my mind that im supposed to be laughing at something.

and that's what this movie fails at ultimately. this movie is a **** joke! never once was I worried about these evil guys destroying and taking over the galaxy! I was never worried! I was never at the edge of my seat! the movie didn't fill me with intensity and epic feelings! I couldn't because everybody was too busy laughing at each other and making a joke out of everything! soooo I wasn't laughing, I wasn't at the edge of seat in intensity, this movie just fails all around!

the only good part of this movie was the somewhat epic ending with the bad guy, but even that got ruined with an attempted funny joke. the ending battle did get me laughing, cause it was so ridiculous you had to laugh. sooo this movie did make me genuinely laugh ONE TIME! but in doing so it ruined a totally epic battle that this movie had going at the time! soooo they sacrificed an epic final battle for a laugh. good choice director.

overall, special effects were amazing, the only good thing about this movie. some touching moments here and there, a somewhat epic final battle, and you got yourselves a satisfactory, mediocre, marvel movie. lol goddamn marvel movies have been going downhill lately. seriously I would only watch this if you got nothing else to do on the weekend, but im pretty sure you can find things to do a lot better than this average film lol

I perfectly blends everything you love about Sci-Fi and add its own Marvel twist. The acting is fantastic, with Bradly Cooper and Chris Pratt stealing the show as Rocket and Star Lord. Vin Diesel as Groot is great and lends a lot of humor to the movie. Zoe Saldana is great as Gamora, making the character so interesting, that I wanted to know more. The real surprise is Dave Bautista as Drax. For this being his first movie since leaving the WWE, he does a pretty good job and has a few good jokes on his own. The humor in the movie is great, easily making it Marvel's funniest movie to date. Most, if not all, the jokes hit the mark and are clever. The action is top-notch and what we have come to expect from Marvel movies. I've seen some reviewers complain how Ronan isn't very interesting, and I don't really agree. Ronan is very menacing and Karen Gillan as Nebula, his henchmen, adds to his awesomeness. Overall, the movie is one of, if not the best summer blockbusters this year and definitely on my top 10. The hardest question I had to ask myself was whether I liked this or Captain America more. :) BTW Make sure to stay for the end-credits scene, it's a funny surprise! Expand

Grown ups will get a lot of the references that will go right over the heads of younger kids (which, in the case of a one or two slightly risque jokes, is a good thing). The film is well-paced and doesn't take itself too seriously. While there are a couple of plot points that might leave hard-core Marvelites kind of puzzled, there are no gaping holes that I noticed and the cast totally delivers on their misfit characters. Probably the nearest thing I can compare GotG to is Firefly, and that's hardly a bad thing. Its funny, action-packed, occasionally clever and does a great job of introducing us to the larger Marvel universe (literally). I was worried that we wouldn't see another big summer film as fun as Pacific Rim for a long time but thankfully I was wrong. If there is a complaint to be found its that the after-credit scene was kind of weak, although pretty appropriate considering the tone of this flick. It was still better than the one in Winter Solider and a cute gift for all True Believers. It follows the same formula of others in the Marvel cinematic universeMarvel's blockbuster formula has time and time again proven to generate massive mounds of money, so why change it? This is my primary problem with Guardians of the Galaxy. It follows the same formula of others in the Marvel cinematic universe but it fails to add it's own distinctive personality to the trade. While a lot of elements in 'Guardians' feel very polished; from the well-crafted action sequences to the witty dialog it cannot shake the overwhelming stale feeling left by the films the proceeded it. 'Guardians' just doesn't feel original.

The story of Peter Quill and the formation of the other Guardians is predictable and full of typical blockbuster cliche's but this is not to say that it isn't fun. At times, the tale can be thrilling, and almost engrossing, but it all amounts to feel like I've seen this before. Many of the scenes feel directly ripped out of other films it resembles, and this results in the overwhelming feeling of deja vu.

With all this said, Guardians of the Galaxy can be a lot of fun, just don't go in expecting something spectacularly original.

Is anyone else getting sick of grimdark heroes gritting their teeth and punching each other in the rain on sets so dark you can't tell whats going on? Right from the opening title sequence you can see that this is going to be a fun movie you can just sit back and enjoy. Chris Pratt's comedic talents are on show as one would expect but he handle action just as well any other A-List star and and look good doing it. Vin Diesel gets a lot of range out of his one line and Bradley Cooper is able to deliver an ACTUAL voice acting performance so good you wouldn't even know it was him if his face and name weren't plastered all over the movie. The whole cast embody their characters personalities perfectly and their chemistry is evident through even with two of the cast being fully CGI.

It does have it's problems. The villains in this movie are lacking much in the way of real motivation. All we know is that Ronan is SOME kind of zealot for...Kree Jesus? And the Xandar are...space Muslim? Who knows. There's a treaty and he don't like it blah blah blow stuff up. Nebula is tragically underused as a dangerous assassin and a daughter of on of the most powerful beings in the universe. While I know Thanos is an avatar of Death and wants to just kill everything is that explained in the movie at all? Honestly, their only goal and motivation seems to be killing people and collecting glowing stones. Whatever. Who cares. We just want guardians.

My other problems is that I'm not sure I get a real feel for how dangerous Drax and Gamora really are. One of Drax's main fights is just getting beat up by the bad guy and he seems just as capable of beating people up as well as anyone else on the team. The same goes for Gamora. Those two should be mowing down baddies twice their size and showing off all their melee prowess. 'The Most Dangerous Woman in the Galaxy' is held in check by a couple of ravagers?

This goes without mentioning how awkwardly each characters sad backstory is awkwardly shoved into the narrative. But, despite these flaws, their easily forgotten thanks to compelling nature of the characters, the quick pace, humor, and excitement of everything going on. Not since Captain America 2 have I seen fight scenes where I don't just immediately check out knowing the next fifteen minutes is going to be punching and skyscraper debris.

While there have been some greater movies released so far this year, Guardians will probably be my favorite and one I actually buy to watch again. I recommend it for anyone and would probably suggest you only take kids who are a little older as some of the action and the villains get evil and scary.

Guardians of the Galaxy is packed with humor, action, adventure and visual splendor. It truly is something completely new from Marvel.

If you combine the action in Star Wars with the adventure in Star Trek you get Guardians of the Galaxy, truly a fascinating movie. Guardians of the Galaxy isn't just a regular movie from Marvel, because the adventurous events made it extraordinary and highly entertaining. The action is something I really enjoy with this movie, it's packed with it, and combined with humor, it's truly something I recommend everyone to watch. The CGI is awesome, especially Rocket and some other things. Just as the CGI and the special effects is the 3D incredible, even though there isn't that much 3D effects. The actors in Guardians of the Galaxy are all spectacular, and the characters like Peter Quill, Gamora and Rocket are also great. The thing that I really enjoy with the characters is that they all have something in common (which I won't spoil), and that the main characters later find each other and do amazing things together.

I was very exited to watch this movie, because the trailers show incredible things that I have been waiting for so long for, but it wasn't that massive and exiting as I thought it would be. One of the reasons is that there are some weird and silly moments, even that most of them are funny and enjoyable, but some of them are just to silly (especially the post-credit scene). Another thing is that the first half of the movie is a bit to excessive and dull but it’s still highly enjoyable. The second half though, is much more entertaining. The last critical thing I got to mention with this movie is that I missed a more unique soundtrack like Thor: The Dark World or something entirely new, but also that the ending could have been more entertaining.

My conclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy is that it’s a highly entertaining and adventurous movie that successfully is able to combine humor with action. It got some negative downsides and if it had less of those and more massive, unique and entertaining stuff, I might give Guardians of the Galaxy a 9.

Guardians of the Galaxy gets a 8.5/10

I came in with low expectations since i had never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy before and was unsure if I really even wanted to see it as of a month ago. However, I am very glad I came around, because this was bar none by favorite Marvel movie yet. It is funny, thrilling, well acted, well written, well directed, moving, touching, and endlessly entertaining. All of the characters are very well developed and lovable in their own ways, though my personal favorites were Groot and Rocket. The special effects are very well done and I am certainly glad I saw it in 3D, as it is very much well worth the higher price. I cannot recommend this one enough and if this one does not touch you and leave you with a smile on your face at the end, you are simply not human. There is a lot of hype surrounding this one and, for me, it more than lived up to that hype. In Marvel we trust? Expand

This movie stands alone and I can't wait to see the sequel. More, please... Expand

James Gunn is not a great genius like, say, George Lucas, the director of Star Wars, but he is a much better entertainer than George Lucas, the director of Phantom Menace. Judging by this movie, he would have made Jar Jar cool. Fast, fun, and charming, "Guardians of the Galaxy" revives the pleasures of 70's and 80's blockbusters that had been buried in a quagmire CG in the leaden coffins of dull writing. Unlike in "Dawn of the Apes," the live actors are just as good as the animated ones (and all are awesome.) Vividly colored, packed with Easter eggs (scandalous, delicious visual quotes from all those 70s and 80s movies), overflowing with jokes, and trickling with two or three tears, it should also give a shot in the arm to Marvel, whose post-"Avengers" features have felt a tad pretentious and morose. James Gunn can fix that. (Disney should also give him a Star Wars or two to keep him busy.) He's not the old Lucas. He is the new Howard Hawks. Expand

Went to the early premier for this movie and let me just say WOW. What a great movie. If everyone was as familiar with these guys as they were with the Avengers everyone would say that GotG is a superior movie. If everyone was as familiar with these guys as they were with the Avengers everyone would say that GotG is a superior movie. I'm not knocking Avengers I loved it but Guardians has way better effects, locations and as crazy as it may sound better protagonists. From the first time u see Starloard to the first time you get a real feel for where Rocket is coming from ur instantly in love with these dudes. 10/10 Go see it.
