Very creative and enjoyable movie, with a intelligent dialogues and plot. It is really a fantastic movie to watch. The film has a lot of great actors and performances, rich ambient, creatures, the really make you believe that is an real alien movie.

The space battle scenes put 2 of the last 3 star wars films to shame. I know CG has come a long way in a short amount of time, but you gaze at these alien civilizations and they are fully rendered and just make sense. The plot is not ultra complex, but it doesn't need to be. The characters are interesting. Even Groot, with the one phrase he can say. I thought that would get tired quick but surprisingly it doesn't.
My biggest criticism of this film is Karen Gillan's relatively small part. It would have been cool to see more with her character. More fight scenes or initiative from her.
This is not one of those films where a perfect protagonist easily saves the day. This is a film about a bunch of flawed characters making something more than they are. It is a very humorous film, but surprisingly it has heart too. And action. Lots and lots of action. It strikes a good balance. If I had to rank the marvel films from best to worst this one would easily come in top third.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok this one is for all you retarded, ignorant and annoying fanboys out there that are so used to lying to themselves that marvel and superhero (no capital letters thank you very much) movies aren't useless pieces of boring **** and actually good that when they finally see a MERE AVERAGE movie they spray their pants and go "OMG BEST MOVIE EVEERRRR".

Look, if morons like the guys who rate GotG 10 have never seen a genuinely good film it's your goddamn problem but stop pretending you actually know anything about cinema and get the **** off metacritic.

GOTG : the review :
The good : the 5 main characters are visually interesting. There are some REAL actors in this movie (Rooker, Riley, Close, Deltoro), unfortunately they share 5 minutes of screen time. A couple of original situations and jokes that rise above the usual mediocrity I've grown accustomed (and fed up with) to when it comes to superhero movies. The dialogs are a lot better than your usual retarded and overused lines nowadays blockbusters vomit in our ears. Also it's a space opera and not a superhero movie. That's about it.

The very bad : was sold as a new and fresh approach to comic book films, ends up being the usual pile of redundant clichés and thrash that has been thrown to our faces since the last 10 years. tries to have a hardcore edge but being a disney film (including a line that uses the word "whore". Yup, a disney film), that vibe gets quickly kicked in the nuts. So why even try being hardcore in the first place?

Apart from a couple of scenes, there is absolutely nothing new with this movie. You have your mandatory space dogfight, confusing brawl, escape from prison scene, all the usual bull****, shot as unoriginally as possible. Formulaic, boring, predictable from beginning to end. The plot is three sentences long. The main cast sucks, Pratt is useless and transparent and that hack Cooper tries to play it mob gangster (I heard he was going for Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. PESCI IN GOODFELLAS, can you believe the nerve on this ****ing guy??), but fails miserably because he has no acting talent whatsoever and becomes incredibly annoying in about 15 minutes.

Saldana is useless and all the characters are so clichéd, generic and poorly written or fleshed out that you quickly don't give a **** about what happens to them. And shoutout to Vin Diesel and his - wait for it- SINGLE LINE OF DIALOG. Talk about acting skills.
The space dogfight scenes look like ATTACK OF THE ****ING CLONES. Didn't everyone hate that movie? Could you be honest with yourselves just a minute and acknowledge that GotG isn't really better? Not to mention the last half hour is a ripoff of Return of the Jedi. Call it a "tribute", I call this a ripoff.
The humor works on a 10/2 ratio : 10 jokes, two giggles (not LAUGHS). I could go on and on and on but I'm getting fed up writing about this turkey.

Final words : geekboys, NO MOVIE DESERVES 0 or 10. Go and learn how to ****ing grade. A movie deserves 10 if it can resurrect the dead. Since this never happened, stick to 8 as being the absolute top grade, and adjust your ratings accordingly. When you rate a movie 10 or 0, you're just screaming I'M A TEENAGE ****ING IDIOT THAT HAS NO CLUE TO WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Furthermore by doing this you are ****ing up the rating system, and trhanks to that a metacritic ratings now means **** ALL.
That being said GotG rises 5 inches above the usual boring and retarded nonsense contemporary blockbuster's average quality thanks to a couple of funny dialogs and a second degree approach that merely saves the day.
Otherwise it's just your same old, same old bull**** script that has been done a thousand times before and will be done a thousand times again. Until you ****ing retarded idiots pull your heads out of your asses and start asking for actual quality productions instead of being spoon fed the usual atrocious insults to intelligence that hollywood execs enjoy shoving down your throats in exchange for your precious dollars.

Most of all leave the ratings to people who know something about good movies and have an IQ superior to 65. Nighty night retarded kiddies, time to go to bed.

It is definitely on par with Avengers in the MCU. It's funny, the action scenes are immense, it's visually beautiful, the core characters (particularly Rocket and Groot) are straight up lovable and portrayed perfectly by the actors. It does suffer from the same problem as Thor: the Dark World in that the villain is pretty one dimensional. We're told he's evil through dialogue but there's not a great deal of evidence on screen until we're pretty far into the film but you're so caught up with getting to know the heroes and seeing what's going on with them that you find yourself not being too bothered. Obviously there are some discrepancies between the comic and the movie, missing an entire member of the team and the power difference between movie Drax and comic Drax, but the film is a very good example of a movie adaptation done right.

The story behind the group isn't the same, the dynamic isn't the same either but the spirit of who the Guardians are was adequately captured in the film. Sure the manner in which they group together is a bit contrived, but sacrifices have to be made since it was the inaugural movie for all of these characters. With that said, they did a laudable job of creating connections between the people in the group and making you feel unexpectedly towards the characters on screen and not making it seem like you were watching a Lord of the Rings movie. That's actually the highest praise I have for the movie. What is was able to accomplish and not be massive in length. If it had been longer I would not have cared( more Guardians for everyone!), but the amazing part comes from how concise and on point the flow of the story and development of the characters was.

It also doesn't hurt the soundtrack to this movie was top notch. I was completely taken aback when that first old school song filled the theaters and then preceded to be featured in the movie. Who does that? The background music was also not to be looked over. I was also glad to see the use of visual effects being a bit different. Instead of doing crazy long slow-mo sequences, they were almost unnoticeable. Or the scene with Star-Lord and Gamorra unprotected in the dark of space.

My only complaints are because I actually know the actual story of Guardians and I don't know the reason some things were done differently. For example, I don't think they did their due diligence with respect to Gamorra. She did not need to be Star-Lord's love interest. She is a strong, no nonsense, can take care of herself woman. They got it right with Black Widow, why not with Gamorra? My only other problem is that Nova was not in the movie and only those who know about the character would feel my pain over his exclusion in the film

Really enjoyed the misfits banding together and caring about each other. Sci-Fi was there, but so was the Marvel expanding universe of characters. I did not grow up reading the comics, so every new character I generally just expect them to fall into bad guy or good guy categories. They didn't really add many new characters (outside the crew of Guardians) so I didn't feel too lost in the comic book lore.
Fun soundtrack adds another level of depth (although most of the music is from the 70s and 80s so you can take that for what it is).
In summary, good Marvel sci-fi movie, funny acting, good music and good message at the end. Worth a theater visit, and buy it if you like the Marvel universe comics (I bet one day the box set will be gigantic!)

Marvel movies tend to be very hit or miss for me. I had never read the comics before so this was entirely new to me.

The movie was really good with some minor flaws that I can overlook. The characters were all very entertaining and had very different personalities from one another, and the interactions with each other was quite humorous as a result. The characters were full of wisecracks which was quite hit or miss. Sometimes it got a little tiresome and felt like a poor version of Star Wars. The main character, Starlord was very cocky and quite annoying at times. All the characters had their own baggage, and heavy baggage it was that they had to come to terms with. And of course they all came to terms with it at the end of the movie as it was wrapped up in a neat and tidy bow like Many Hollywood blockbusters. The main character even had a big change in heart and managed to put his selfishness aside to find something greater than himself for the first time in his life. This was pure Hollywood.

There were a lot of little plots going on and they could have offered a little more background in places so things would make a little more sense but then that would take too long. Overall they did a good job and even offered room for some of the main characters to have their own movies and have their past explored if Marvel chose to do this.

The villain was very imposing and intimidating, but a little too indestructible for my taste. Generally the henchman sucked at fighting and got easily killed. This is nothing new for comic book movies but it would be nice once in a while if films didn't take this route.

The visuals were quite impressive, and featured some exciting battle sequences but nothing too mind-blowing.

A little more variety in the races would have been enjoyable. Many of the races looked almost the same except for the skin color, and the races didn't seem to deviate much from humans in their appearance.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable movie, though far from a classic and it certainly had it's flaws.

Simply genius! This movie is a true gem! Very refreshing and nothing short of awesome.

I didn't know much about the movie before going to see it, and even less about the comic books it was inspired from. The trailer left me quite skeptical when I watched it some months ago, same for Bradley Cooper as Rocket the Raccoon. I told myself and my friends: This movie is either gonna fail so hard, or be absolutely amazing. Well... turns out it ended up being the latter.

The characters are all memorable. The dialogues are hilarious. The action is tight and, while there is plenty of it, it never gets old. The movie constantly jumps from jokes into action sequence into joke into emotional moment into action, back to jokes, etc. No dull moment, only awesome developement and scenes.

The music tracks selected are all excellent classics carefully hand-picked to convey a feeling of familarity, goofiness , and joy throughout the whole movie. (I'm actually listening to the soundtrack as I'm typing this ;P )

The characters are all memorable, from the excentric, goofy, yet handsome Starlord (love his outfit, weird jet armor, and guns), to the hilarious and clever Raccoon (which Bradley Cooper absolutely nailed and really impressed me with his performance), to the sexy, yet deadly, Gamora, Groot the humble, gentle, badass tree-thing, Rax the Destroyer (who's supposed to be a brutal badass, but who's actually freaking ridiculously stupid and sympathetic!). The Collector was cool, however we didn't see much of him. Ronan was menacing and a great villain, if somewhat generic. ETC. ETC. ETC. every single character is awesome. Period.

Anyway, I've already written too much. Just go watch this movie, whoever you are, it's a blast from the opening scene to the ending credits. I actually can't wait to watch it again!

Oh, and for those who are wondering. It's worth it to watch it in 3D; the 3D is great. It's not over-the-top distracting, and it's not super subtle, non-existant, like some 'fake' 3D movies. It's real 3D, that works well, and that does add to the movie a bit. No reason to not see it in 3D to be honest.

Chris Pratt is adorable as always. I went in the cinema expecting cute stuff from Rocket but it's Groot who delivered. Okay not adding any spoiler.

The use of 80s music is awesome too. Gives a lot of character for Star-Lord.

Overall, a very entertaining film. Some plot holes (maybe will be answered on the next films). 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It absolutely blows me away that this is receiving so many positive reviews. This is by a wide margin one of the worst mainstream action movies I have ever seen. It was incredibly corny, but not a good kind of corny. Just awful directing that feels like it could have been written by an 8 year old. Whoever directed this didn't even seem to try.
.
So there were hundreds of different alien races , but they all looked remarkably similar to humans. WHY? This makes absolutely no sense, but they didn't even attempt to explain this. Why did they all speak English with American accents, furthurmore?
Why was Groot able to pierce the aliens' armor, when he's made of wood? WOOD? They're hyper-advanced aliens that have a respectable grasp on space travel, but they go into battle wearing armor that can be pierced by a sharp stick?
WHY, for the love of Christ, when the alien spacecraft crash landed on a planet and demolshed several city blocks, were the rest of the main cast able to survive without a scratch because they were protected by a nest of spindly branches?

These are just a couple of the very obvious, gaping flaws in this film that nobody seemed to even try to explain. There were so many stupid problems with this film that it would probably exceed the 5,000 character limit were I try to list them all off. This is a movie that was almost hilariously bad at times on my first viewing, and I'd be willing to bet would get steadily worse if I were to watch it multiple times.

I'm giving this movie one point for animation, but even that wasn't very good in some places. The imaginative design that went into A COUPLE characters like Groot was fantastic, but then there were scenes like the one where they're standing amongst the ruins of a destroyed city block, and nothing looked like it was actually there. They were very clearly standing in front of a greenscreen.

It seemed like a comedy StarTrek/Wars ripoff, featuring some of the most unknown Marvel heroes, exception being Rocket Racoon (courtesy of Marvel Heroes and Marvel vs Capcom 3). I kind of got angry, the rage had been building up before that with the new terrible Ghost Rider thing (that's another story for another time), my reaction basically was "What the hell, Marvel, give us Civil war already!".
Short version: I was wrong. Long version incoming:
So, in time, previews and reactions started to arise. Things started looking pretty awesome for this movie, so I decided to keep an eye on it. And when it began to hit USA theaters, almost every critic I respect from that region said that the movie is awesome(tacular(get it?)). And when I trust a critic - I trust him entirely (that's why I trust so few of them). That all had built up, I had big expectations of this movie - I expected a mix of great humor and action, along with Disney-quality drama. That's one way to put it. After I watched it, I figured out another way to describe this movie - this movie is awesome and will be remembered as such for all time.
Everyone, by now, has heard and seen the trailer for it. It tells you everything you need to know. But the trailer for the movie acts out on it's own in a good way - it sort of lies to you. But that is a good thing, you will understand what I mean when you see the movie, but if you want me to tell you - it's better than the trailers show off.
The movie is extremely memorable - it's very well shot and made, there were even a couple of shots I took notes about. All of the actors performed well, the action scenes were exciting and the soundtrack is instabuy-MP3 Player quality if you are into old-school pop/rock.
This movie deserves your attention and there is nothing more you need to hear. And it's not like I'm the first person to say this. It does exactly the opposite of what DC is doing with it's heroes. Guardians of the Galaxy is an extremely good time, features some of the most memorable (post-watch) cast of characters (one of which whom probably end up being your new favorite Marvel hero), It's a very well paced and written joyride, that you will either love, or hate, and if it is the latter it is simply because it's not your thing, because there is no other excuse not to appreciate the movie. It's not going to chill your spine with shocking revelations, but it's as good as action-fantasy-sci-fi-comic-book-inspired-comedies go. I'll be quoting this movie forever, that about should sum it up for you, if you are a smart person. If you are not, just be a skeptic and go see it, you won't be disappointed. Just have a few extra bucks at the ready so you can buy the OST and a few comic books afterwards. No need to thank me.

Peter soon finds himself in a prison with four others Rocket Racoon played by Bradley Cooper, Groot played by Vin Diesel, Gamora played by Zoe Saldana and Drax the Destroyer played by Dave Bauista. The film then takes a journey to find and contain the orb before Ronan destroys the galaxy. Great voice acting, action and comedy make this film a blast to watch. This film cannot be missed. Director James Gunn treats his material seriously and elegantly. With great music, such as Hooked On A Feeling by Blue Swede being top on the ITunes list. The 80's vibe is great with music jarring throughout the movie. With great extras by Bencio Del Toro as the Collector and a great after credits scene. Must watch. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The most fun I've had at the movies in a long time, possibly ever. Left the theatre with a smile on my face, giggled all the way home, couldn't shut up about it all night, etc. All the joy and sense of adventure of the original Star Wars trilogy with a hefty dose of darkness to keep it interesting (dude getting his skull caved with a hammer early in the movie is a reminder that this isn't purely a kids' flick), and just utterly nonstop humor from a group of characters deep enough that you'll remain actively engaged throughout.

All the negative reviews I've read have been written by people who really just seem as though they're trying to draw attention to themselves. I see 4 s and 5 s and, ok. I can understand it just wasn't your cup of tea or whatever, but then I see 0 s and 1 s and that just makes me sad. A few of them even mention that the audience was laughing uproariously the whole time! How hollow life must be when you can no longer enjoy something like this :(

Will be seeing it again next weekend, it's just that good.

A movie that's great for kids, and not much else.

I think the person who sat behind me in the theater said it best by snoring through 75% of Marvel's new summer let-down. For someone who has never read the comic, it is almost impossible to understand any of the back story, let alone know very much at all about the main characters. A couple lines get dropped here and there to suggest, but leave only raised eyebrows and tilted heads for the uninitiated. The few laugh-out-loud moments were already in all the trailers, while the rest of the minutes were filled with sub-par action (think excessive CGI) and a paper-thin story. I think they were going for "space western" with this one, and they successfully ruined the genre. People who compare this to Star Wars make me feel old, because I find that to be incredibly insulting, and typical of the kids of modern day Hollywood (and I'm only 24.) Overhyped and underwhelming, it's not even worth having gone to the theater for, and I feel guilty for having my boyfriend take me.

By the way, the ending is like any episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; the protagonist is a pony princess and wins with the magic of friendship.

There was nothing about this movie that really drew me in, and it's because the character stories were rushed so fast that you didn't get a chance to feel anything for them. We get to see each character for a few minutes before their paths collide. So when the characters only know each other for a few days, we're expected to believe they've bonded to the point where they'll die for each other? This movie should have been an animated film for kids in my opinion. The dumbed down dialogue sure fit. I really wish they focused the story on Peter Quill, instead he felt like a side character. That's probably because we have five heroes, four villains, and tons of side characters: Yondu and his crew, the Collector and his slave, Nova Prime and the entire Nova Corps. So many pointless characters could have been cut from this film, and the necessary time could have been given to develop Quill's story. This would have improved the movie dramatically. Don't get me wrong... all the characters in this movie do look really interesting, however, you can't squeeze all their stories in a 2 hour film, otherwise it's a mess. The directing was great, the overall story was good, the action and special effects were superb, but the characters are so shallow... the core flaw with this movie is the numerous characters that shouldn't be in a film that's introducing the casual viewer to a completely new universe. Keep it simple. This is not the Avengers, where each super hero already had their own individual films that established their character's background. Expand

I'm hereNot many people are familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy, so a lot of people thought Marvel was taking a very big risk making a movie for these characters. The trailers looked great in every way, yet people were still skeptical. I'm here to confirm it people, along with many others-Guardians of the Galaxy is the movie you wanted, and delivers so much more. Peter Quill, Gamora, Rocket, Groot, and Drax come on screen to deliver possibly the funnest time you will have at the theatre this year. Funny, heartwarming, clever, and action packed can all be words to describe this awesome movie. So since the movie is named after this group of characters, let's talk about these characters. Chris Pratt plays the leader, Star Lord, and I've never seen him better. He was just the perfect choice for this role. While Pratt is amazing, there's one character that truly steals the show: Rocket. How did you not expect this raccoon that spits out hilarious lines with big guns to be the star of the show? Bradley Cooper's voice for him was also amazing. Then there's Gamora. Zoe Saldana is known for being a great sci-fi movie actress, and she's well known for her very, very, very good performances in Avatar and the new Star Trek flicks. She's just as good here, and even though there's not a lot of it, her chemistry with Pratt is great. There's not much to say about Groot since he only says "I am Groot" for the movie, but I loved his abilities and watching him in action. One of the less noteworthy ones is Drax. Marvel made a bit of a mistake here by hiring a former wrestler. While Drax does have very good lines and funny sarcasm, the guy that plays him is not a great actor. The main villain, Ronan, wasn't very good, either. Overall, he was serviceable, but I just felt he was generic. His main motivations come from his generic story about how his father was killed and now he wants revenge. However, seeing the 5 guardians come together and interact on screen was a constant delight. The story isn't overly complex starting out, and it doesn't get to that later on, either. 85% of the time I was fine with that, though. Almost 100% of the time this movie is simply hilarious. I can't tell you how many times I was laughing out loud hysterically. This movie also has an awesome soundtrack. Me being a 70's and 80's rock lover, I loved every track. The movie also has great action sequences. The most memorable parts are all-out dogfights, but the guardians can also kick ass gloriously without aircraft. Great visuals compliment the action, too, but at small times it looked like live-action. Despite flaws with Ronan and Drax, a very slight amount of complexity, and not-always-perfect visuals, Guardians of the Galaxy is a complete blast. Marvel took a risk with this flick-but what's the pay off here? You should know after all the stuff I've said so far: BIG TIME! Expand

ThatI read comics and manga only that published in the newspapers and weekly magazine, other than that I am not into the comic books. So I must admit that I never heard before 'Guardians of the Galaxy' till this project start to commence. That means I had no expectations, I mean the expectation was nil. Especially after seeing the trailers and teasers I was totally repelled away to see strange characters like a tree, raccoon and other colorful skin tone human like creatures. Frankly, I thought it would end up badly as 'Green Lantern' did. I discarded my negative thoughts and decided to go after all I am a movie fanatic and that's what I do. I can say all these things were in my advantage when I went to sit in the cinema hall like an empty minded. The opening credits began to roll, me too slowly started to dissolve with the movie. It was not even 5 minutes passed, but I was into it and can you believe that I forgot to have a bite the junk food I purchased. In the end, I was very impressed like never before and how much? That's what I am going to explain in the below paragraphs.

‘‘I am Groot.’’

First, I never heard this director, kind of new in town (to me). When I checked his filmography on the movie database I came to know that I loved his movie 'Super' which was just like the movie 'Defendor'. What a breakthrough he got from this movie to enter into the big director's league list. It is a dream come true. He's also going to make a sequel for this as well and that is the real test to prove he's not just lucky to get away with this movie. Because many has predicted it won't stand tall in the box office. But what I witnessed was exactly opposite. The responsibility has become so heavier.

Secondly, its a another 3M or MMM. Don't get confused, I was saying Marvel's Marvelous Magic. Other side Disney and Pixer are battling each others in animation field to dominate. In superhero themes, is there anyone to challenge Marvel? It is like one man's pride walk on the streets of Hollywood. Recently I said in the 'Need for Speed' review that EA joined something like the same, but a unique league to transform their games into the feature films. Whatever they do, it is our gain for sure. It was Marvel's sixth movie series from 'comic-to-movie' conversion, after Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, including The Avengers. Remember 'Ant-Man' is in due early next years.

A story of a boy called Peter Quill, who was taken away from his home planet, Earth by the space pirates. 20 years later he becomes a skilled thief and calls himself Star-lord. As usual in one of his missions he meets some strange guys who are after the orb he stole from an isolated planet. Soon he realizes it is a bigger issue once he come to know what does orb do. Unexpectedly a five member team forms that includes him Quill the thief, Gamora as the assassin, Drax the destroyer, Rocket the genetically engineer-cum-bounty hunter and Groot the tree. They decide to work towards one purpose, but the thing is they are mismatched in everyway. That leads each others to get misunderstand, misuse and failures, in one word to say the losers. After the series of screw-up how they unite against the strongest villain in the galaxy Ronan was told before it wraps up with a grand final fight.

Yeah, I know the story was very simple. Men after the object that gives the power and strength is what's commonly known theme nowadays. But the beautiful cast and performances, including astonishing visuals will definitely change the viewer's perspective. It is going to be a game changer for the Chris Pratt's career. Congratulations to him to made his role unbelievably awesome. Now onwards its only look forward. Like always Zoe Saldana had been excellent and sexy under the alien skin avatar. If Andy Serkis is the master of motion-capture then Zoe is kind of a female version of him. Vin Diesel had the least display of all the lead characters, especially with his one and only dialogue that repeats all the time. It was so fun for the first time watch and hope it will remain same for repeat viewings. The character Rocket was another impressive, voice rendered by Bradley Cooper. Me too, to call him a raccoon kind of feel it is a racism remark. LOL. Definitely it is one of the top in the list of non-human or graphical character in a live-shot movie appearance. I think it was one of the biggest role ever Dave Bautista did. He was equally great to all the above, I stated. The cast was really a big, only those I mentioned in the above lines were having major portions in this installment. So expecting the others' time will come in the follow-up movies.

‘‘We are the bunch of jackass
standing in the circle.’’

Like I said the story was not the problem here because it was presented with plenty of fresh humor. Don't expect it like a serious movie with a serious mission that takes place travelling all around the galaxy in a spaceship. Especially it was far better than 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to

(Summary - Adds Humour To Heroism. ♦ 73%)

Come on now, we all know (and pretend that we don't) that all superhero movies are alike. But we still go and see them and come out of the hall enthralled by the visual effects, stunts, 3D, et cetera. So let me not focus on the story here, but the things that entertained me.

To start with, I'm in complete awe with Chris Pratt. His brief dance performance is what kick-starts the films and continues to keep us hooked with his character, the main hero. Next, I found myself laughing and grinning all the way through 2 hours because of the large amounts of humor that this film succeeds in executing. Every single sequence is painted with a comic tint, thanks to Cooper, Bautista and others. I have no reason to blame the cast, nor the production unit.

Here in India, there were few cuts that annoyed me but I believe we were spared more than we were in The Wolf of Wall Street.

While I thought that the CGI was a tad premature at some parts, the story is narrated quite nicely. The action sequences are not much of a surprise as it showcases the futuristic gadgets and stuff. There aren't any twists that could have saved the second half from being a little itchy.

Coming to the best part: the soundtrack. The Pina Colada song never felt so good before and it was also years since I heard that. Right kind of music used at perfect times throughout the film. Vin Diesel's Groot voice needs a pat in the back.

Guardians of the Galaxy succeeds in holding the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it conveys few implications here: that tree life is so much more significant than we think. It touches topics like space and gravity and galaxies and science and stuff superficially, although stops right there when it introduces typical superhero formula of an ancient ball that has some celestial power and the heroes and the villains are behind it. Blah blah blah.

BOTTOM LINE: A typical superhero film, embezzled with good humor, great music and an unconventional character ensemble. A raccoon plays a superhero, what more do you ask?

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a marvel movie like no other. Most marvel movies have action with a bit of comedy; this movie is a comedy with a lot of action. The CGI is very beautiful and feels real, and casting for this movie couldn't have been better, from Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, to Vin Diesel as the giant Groot. The fights will leave you so far on the edge of your seat that the chair will be irrelevant, and the jokes will make you laugh hard and fall on the floor.

Overall: 10/10
Probably one of the best Marvel movies you'll see. Go watch the movie while you can!

After 6 horrible movies in a row (Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Cap America 2, X-Men Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy), it is safe to say Disney has officially ruined Marvel. Done seeing their movies at the cinema.

No, The Amazing Spider Man 2 is not part of the list because it is produced by Sony. That was the only good Marvel movie since Iron Man 1.

I do think the "funny scenes" were a little overdone at times and unfortunately I think it sort of ruined the ending (the worst 5 minutes of the movie). Seriously I liked it all right until the very end. That being said overall still around an 8.5 and I think may be the best marvel movie done so far. Expand

minor spoiler alert ahead it doesn't spoil major plots its very minor but if your a purist don't read on

You might be wondering if Thanos was in this movie according to rumors you heard I'm here to say YES YES HE WAS he didn't play a major role but what he did do felt just right and it will probably quench you thirst for wanting to see the mad titan and to be honest I teared up a bit when I saw him he had a presence would be the best way to describe it that you could tell he means business.

My analogy would be the Avengers in Space, expect you didn't need previous movies to learn about the characters.

All the characters are easily identifiable and their archetypes mesh well with each other, and the star performance was Chris Pratt's characters. All characters felt useful in their own way, and didn't feel like one was more important than another. Like Avengers, it laid down a foundation. From a technical aspect the film was great, and it was paced well.

After The Avengers and Cap 2, which are in my opinion the best movies released so far, Guardians of the Galaxy is right after them, on the 3rd place of my personal favourites, that came from Marvel. It even beats Iron Man series, provided the fact that I really like Iron Man, as it was the movie that made the wheels spinning ( RDJ will be alwys my favourite ). Every actor in Guardians of the Galaxy did an awesome job portraying their character. The movie itself was a lot of fun, I was either laughing or smiling at least 60% of the time, which is good because you have to balance the serious and the fun aspect. Overall the movie is brilliant. I'm going to see it once again this week. Expand

It is just original enough most should not feel like they have seen this film a thousand times before, but not so original that it is just odd feeling. The pacing can be a little slow early on, but over all good pacing. Thankfully, they do not spend 95% of the movie telling back stories for each character. The villian(s) is little to cliche. I like how they pulled the team together. If you did not see any of the latest crop of Marvel movies, you will be fine. This is a stand alone series.

Basically, if enjoyed The Fifth Element, Star Wars, or other sci-fi along those lines, this will be well worth your time and money.

With hits including Blue Swede’s Hooked On a Feeling, The Runaway’s Cherry Bomb, The Jackson 5’s I Want You Back and Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy is the epitome of silly, mindless fun at the movies. I’m not sure what Marvel Studios obsession with Marvin Gaye may be currently, but after having the song Trouble Man dictate the narrative for the highly impressive Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year, it seems that the powerhouse studio is repossessing old concepts and ideas, and polishing them up quite nicely. With a bit of frantic, highly busy visual effects as well as engrossing dark physical and illicit family comedy, and presenting them in exuberantly exciting fashion for people of all ages to enjoy, Guardians of the Galaxy is a clear-cut winner.

There is no denying that Guardians may very well be Marvel’s own Star Wars for a new generation of highly diverse and eager young filmgoers; the film, which is inspired by the classic series, also does a great job spoofing much of the universe brought to life by George Lucas in the seventies. Guardians is, in many senses of the phrase, a roller-coaster ride of a film whose intention of fun is never questioned. If ever Disney wanted to shape a theme park ride around any of their properties, Guardians would surely be their best bet–never mind Pirates.

Geek culture has officially taken over cineplexes, and for the most part, so will Chris Pratt, whose turn as Peter Quill a.k.a Star-Lord, will surely be the clear victor at this weekend’s box office. Quill, a rambunctious outlaw whose fame as a nuisance to the galaxy is as important as his alias, leads a rag-tag group of criminal misfits to iconic hero status. Like most heroes, Quill isn’t quite sure he knows he’s a hero yet. Stealing and collecting junk from around the universe on his filthy Corvette-like spaceship he uses more like a bedroom for alien women than as a means of transport, Quill finally steals something so powerful, it threatens to destroy the world and him, forever. But unlike Indiana Jones, Quill doesn’t have to dodge booby-traps and outrun giant boulders, instead he just has to deal with an array of peculiar characters including; a crew of awful aiming mercenaries loyal to Ronan (Lee Pace) led by Korath (Djimon Hounsou), bounty hunters Rocket (a genetically modified, wise cracking racoon voiced by Bradley Cooper), a humanoid tree Groot (voice by Vin Diesel), an assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and a murderous maniac intent on vengeance Dax the Destroyer (former wrestler Dave Bautista).

Eventually, everyone involved with Quill and the orb he has stolen are imprisoned (except the bad guys of course). In prison, the five begin unlikely friendships based on trust, sacrifice and intimidation that allows them to escape prison and set a course to a buyer, The Collector (Benecio Del Toro) who will stop at nothing to have the newly stolen possession in his hands. Upon discovering Quill’s possession of the orb, Ronan gets direct orders from Thanos (Josh Brolin) to retrieve it. Led by his muscle Nebula (Karen Gillan), Ronan and his dark army go to extensive corners of the galaxy to retrieve the orb, and kill anyone in their way.

Guardians can rest assure that it is by no means a revolutionary film to defies the boundaries of the superhero narrative and the ‘stop the bad guy from destroying the world’ cliched storyline we have come to love and hate. Thankfully, the film is a practice of clever humour and nuanced physical slapstick that make its way into the superhero genre. Pratt does a star-lording job of leading a fresh group of actors to new heights in super hero comedy as well as interacting and getting the most from his voice cast.

Director James Gunn (Slither, Super) whose previous work makes no indication at all that his fit in Marvel’s world of intergalactic superheroes would work, does a surprisingly fantastic job writing and directing obscure comic book characters. Obvious losers in the comic book world, Gunn does an amazing job of making the Guardians cinematic heroes whose allure on screen, consisting of saturated visual effects and computer generated imagery, make for one of the greatest complete ensemble of the summer. So what if his overly ambitious score is distracting to viewers during intense scenes of built up drama and highly concentrated action. Gunn, has us, from the films first frames, hooked on a feeling of nostalgia and escapism that we haven’t felt for a long time.

The camera jarred around worse then the Blair Witch movie.

The humor was decent but sometimes bordered on overly cliche. The action was well done and the movie was fun to watch. I would definitely not see this in 3-D. The 3-D effects were quite apparent on where they would be in the 2-D version and were more of a pop out at your cause everything just exploded kind of 3-D.

I would definitely recommend this movie but just don't watch it in 3-D.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So we see a flashback to late 80's of a little boy in a waiting room with a Walkman listening to a mixtape from his mother who is in the next room dying from cancer. The little boy is Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) who later grows up to be the self proclaimed Star Lord , we see the boy was called into the hospital room to say goodbye to his mother she gives him a gift (which later is very important ) and offers her hand to him , but before he can take her hand she dies, he is then ushered from the room by grieving family , understandably distraught he runs from the hospital room only be abducted by a spaceship piloted by an alien Yondu (Michael Roofer) . Fast forward 30 years to the present and Peter Quill/Star Lord is free spirited wanderer, space cowboy, womanizer (think Han Solo only goofier) who surfs the galaxy looking for treasure to steal and turn for a profit, he stumbles onto an orb that is wanted by a bad guy named Ronin ( Lee Pace) who wants it's to destroy and rule worlds across the galaxy, you know the usual bad guy stuff. He makes a deal with overlord major baddie Thanos (voiced by Josh Brolin) to help him destroy a planet but all Thanos wants is the rock (kinda like Kobe Bryant) , Ronan receives both of Thanos daughters Nebula (Karen Gillian) & Gamora (a sexy Zoe Saldana ) the latter who may have ulterior motives to help him retrieve the Orb , Star Lord is captured trying to steal the powerful orb which is later revealed to be extremely powerful, The rest of the G.O.G Team is Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) a psychotic bio-engineered rodent with quick wit and trigger finger , he has most of the funny lines and scenes, Draxx the destroyer (Dave Bautista) basically a simple minded brute looking for revenge for his family's murder by the hands of Ronin , Groot (Voiced by Vin Diesel) a tree/enforcer with a lot of hurt but a limited vocabulary , these reluctant Heroes when thrown in prison together band together for the greater good of alien-kind. The whole team has their moments to shine individually, but this is easily the most funny , epic , heartwarming , movie of the year I can't wait to see Guardians 2! Good job Marvel with all that character development in two hours which is not easy, neither is that epic dance off. This is the Star Wars for the 21st century. Two Geek thumbs wayyyyy up !

If you are into this space-opera/superhero/action genre stuff, then "Guardians of the Galaxy" is a must-watch for You. If you are not, then be sceptical and do not expect to see the greatest movie ever.

A huge weakness for this film is it's screenplay which is a huge cliche. Or maybe it is a parody of itself. Either way, if you have any experience in watching movies, you will always be able to predict what is going to happen next. Although one of the main aspects of the film is the fate of the entire galaxy, there is never really anything at stake. The climax is cheap and predictable

On the other hand, "Guardians of Galaxy" can be surprisingly fun at times. All actors are good too, even though the characters are all black and white - this is a classic good vs. evil fairytale after all. Visual effects are outstanding as well and if You are going to watch it, watch it in 3D, because 3D always covers some of the film's weaker aspects and failures.

All in all, "Guardians of the Galaxy" is not a terrible movie, but I would not be as psyched about it as the rest 95% of Internet is. Seeing its success, we should brace ourselves - the sequels, spin-offs and reboots are coming.

I felt everything pieced together well with it's comedy, action, visual display all getting in to the mix and executed wonderfully. The voice acting and acting of the actors captured my attention throughout, wanting to learn and feel more for these characters. Not the best movie plot as I would have expected from any Marvel films, in especially this year's X-Men : Days of Future Past which IMO was overrated and The Amazing Spider man 2 a major bore from it's continuation but Guardians of the Galaxy takes my adulation, an enjoyable film from the minute to the last! Example: super bad-ass assassin character has killed so many to build her reputation, but 3 random inmates subdue her fully...
Example: drax the destroyer is supposed to be the toughest thing around but gets beaten up by every mid level boss also in the extremely out of place bar scene all non human characters get drunk but in the very next scene all other characters sober up while the biggest guy is still drunk (i'm going to ignore that someone can call an army on the phone)

The acting fell a bit flat at times but it was still another really good movie released by Marvel Studios. The group that was in the movie was a bit different as the GotG aren't that popular in the comic world. Barely anyone knew who they were at the time of the movie being announced but Marvel took a risk and it worked out very well. There was more of an emphasis on humor in this movie, which is probably why they hired a fairly well received comedian for the staring role in Chris Pratt. The humor is well done and the dynamic that is infused within the movie is really well done, especially with Rocket and Groot, who provided most of the humor the movie delivered. The movie had alot of action in it too and it bounced back and forth between the two very well. The only problem I had was with probably the most well known actor in the group and that was Zoe Saldana. She fell flat a few times here and there and I just felt like she was disinterested in what she was doing half the time on screen. It's not enough to ruin the movie but it was noticeable for me. At the end of the day though, this was a very well done movie and another good movie done by the Marvel Studios. It's the last one of the year for them and they went out with a pretty big bang. I was not going to see this. The trailers looked a bit silly, but I heard some good things and it is Marvel, so what the heck. I am very glad I went. Hugely entertaining. I am very glad I went. Hugely entertaining. Very good characters and lots of them. If there is one thing I am not too keen on is the lack of effort and originality when it comes to all these aliens. Marvel needs to do more than just color people with odd makeup. Chris Pratt is ok and likeable. Still not sure why he is considered to be anything more than average. The story is pretty sound. The humor is great. Kinda reminds me of a better The 5th Element. For a super hero movie, no one is really a super hero with super powers unless you count tree man, Groot voiced by Vin Diesel. Seriously Vin, I hope hey did not pay for much for your one line. In my opinion, Bradley Cooper steals the movie in every scene.

For sure worth your $11 or so bucks. I did not see the 3D version.

James Gunn delivers. The movie was fun, exciting, full of heart, and engaging. It knew exactly what it was didn't try to make itself out to be something that it wasn't. I will be seeing it again soon. MAKE MINE MARVEL!

Then, I watched the movie.

If you have seen and liked previous marvel films, like the avengers, you will like this movie. Even if you are a soulless husk of a human being who hates the comedy of this film, the film still has plenty of good action, and looked very good.

Personally, I found it engaging, and with a memorable cast.

Would watch again, 9/10
