I have to say, Dune 2021 was the best cinematographic "experience" I had in a long time!
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting the keep-on-drooling-for-a-couple-of-years ending… But I’m gland it’s happening! Can’t wait to see the (remaining) cast to bring more stories to my eyes, ears and conscience…

Almost every shot in this movie is a work of art, and the vfx and sound mix are awesome. I really wish WB had just shot the whole thing at once, now we have to wait 2 years for part 2. It's not for everyone, anyone expecting nonstop action will probably be disappointed. Part 2 will be where things really get crazy. If they do a good job (which I have no doubt they will) I think this will go down as one of the greatest scifi films of all time. Dennis Villeneuve is a legend. Expand

Probably, the first really successful Dune cinema adaptation.
I can say that it was pretty long, but I didn’t feel any tiredness till final titles.
It is beautiful world created by Villeneuve, who seem to really love original book and paid a lot of attention to make it really accurate and concise (which is really hard to do for the Dune book).
As a (possible) disadvantage I can mention sepia/grey filters, but personally I really like the final picture.

To my eyes of impressions and beautiness, this Movie is totally clear in its premise, politics, and operatic sci-fi story. It’s also filled with the sort of epic grandeur of vision that Dune fans always insist makes the original text special.

This word gets used a lot these days but the only other movie(s) I can think of that is an adequate comparison on this front is the Lord of the Rings trilogy. You have a 'world' with several factions, or 'Houses' as they're called in Dune, all with rich histories and complicated motives. There is several themes; political, ecological, religious, familial, economical, and of course The Chosen One.

The movie sticks with the book almost to the letter and it works for the most part. Ultimately Denis V wanted to do justice to the source material and he absolutely succeeds.

Visually, this movie is as stunning as any I've ever seen. Not surprising since it's a Denis V movie who tends to be incredibly detail oriented. The cinematography is gorgeous with several individual shots worthy of a frame and wall hanging. But my jaw dropped several times watching scenes that clearly had to be CGI but could not be distinguished as such. I genuinely think this may be the best CGI I've ever seen. Even the best CGI money can buy (and marvel's bought most of it) still looks like CGI, but the work in this movie is seamless. Really amazing stuff.

I'm not sure how it will play with people who aren't familiar with the book (I just read it about 6 months ago and really liked it).

Final thoughts: the movie is definitely just a Part 1. It is incomplete on it's own. There is not a satisfying end but literally a "This is just the beginning" to wrap things up. I for one have already reserved my typical seat when Part 2 arrives.

The battle scenesIf you liked the original novel, this is the most faithful adaptation that can be green lighted by a movie studio. Villeneuve showed he has excellent imagination for spaceships in Arrival, but now he's outdone himself. The battle scenes capture the book's spirit to perfection.

Each one of the roles is amazingly cast, with a whole bunch of excellent actors bringing their best. And Hans Zimmer music is, as most of his work, breathtaking.

If you know nothing about the world of Dune, the movie is still good, although some of the conflicts might be a little bit opaque. An outstanding work. Let's hope that they can keep the quality going for the next one.

This is yo there with Aliens and Terminator 2, and Interstellar as well. And this is only half. It is almost 1 to 1 in keeping with the book. All the major characters are here playing their roles faithfully and truthfully which means epically. This is a story about the universe, of thousands of star systems and planets, eating holy war across the galaxy in the name of Muad Dib, who is the Kid Atreides. He will ride sandworms, survive a nuke, free the Firemen and lead them across the galaxy - to the Kids fright, waging holy war in his family name.

This movie is **** perfect. Absolutely perfect. Blade runner was a disappointment, I liked Ghost In The Shell but that was an 8. This is an easy 11, it will be watched for decades and hopefully become more popular than Star wars. This is game of thrones in space.

My favorite part was the consistent yellow sandy look of the movie and the design of the buildings and starships as they are faithful even though many find them blocky and boring. There are technology that is not meant to be beautiful but functional, an 80s style vibe of heavy construction equipment not sleek starships. But there is magic, genetic editing, nukes, special armies, and so much more.

The style is called brutalist and it is brutal. It is also a favorite style of fascism, a la Nazis and the Italian dictator Mussolini.

Perfect. Absolutely perfect story.

Probably the best film I've seen since The Lord of the Rings. The only reason I'm not putting it above LotR is because it's a bit shorter and we don't have an extended cut, yet.

Cinematography, what can I see. It's stunning. The story, the best of the best. Music is amazing, acting even more so. Pacing? Don't listen to critics, every Dune reader will be glad that the pacing is slow. It doesn't feel rushed, it covers all the important parts and you feel the depth of the story.

The intro alone leaves this impression of something monumental on the horizon, which is the same impression you get from LotR intro, even though Dune's intro is far less action packed.

Watch the movie in the cinema. It's completely different experience. You can't catch the magnificence of scenes on a small screen.

If you enjoyed Blade Runner, style, visual, pace wise - you will at least like Dune.

We barely have good cinema anymore, Dune is a breath of fresh air, a tour de force with a slow buildup and a cliffhanger (hence, part one and with a VERY good reason).

You don't have to know everything about the universe of Dune, or have read the books to understand what is happening. To me, without even reading the books, a few things felt spoon-fed. Finding the answers is much more satisfying than being given them right away. Visually it is incredible, subtle and powerful score, great casting and script. There are a few creative choices which had to be made, but nothing is without compromise and Dune does not suffer for it in the slightest. It is a feel and an experience movie. Not an action blockbuster. Only criticism I can agree with is the pacing, which is not bad on its own, its not what general public expects with a cliffhanger at the end. But some people are spoiled beyond redemption. Dennis makes fantastic movies. I am glad that studio heads trust in his vision and capabilities, resurrecting Blade Runner and Dune is a gargantuan achievement. For those who rate Dune so low - please, do everyone a favour and watch Marvel movies/Netflix. Again - we barely have good cinema anymore, Dune is a breath of fresh air, a tour de force with a slow buildup.

The acting was great, I didn't see a single bad performance. Not only is this a beautiful movie with stunning cinematography, I actually think this is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN (I'm not even exaggerating). These are just some of the many great things about the movie. Also one of my big complaints about the old David Lynch version of Dune was that it didn’t actually take the time to explain the important things, and didn't make us see this beautiful world that I knew Dune had. We want to be transported and taken on a journey. As a huge Dune fan, who isn't among the popular estimations of who is watching this film (Over 35, White, and Male. I'm under 35, Black, and Female), I will admit that I was hoping to see certain scenes that ended up not making the cut. Although, it's a bit of a bummer not to see certain stand out scenes, I had to remind myself that this is an interpretation for the silver screen. Villeneuve has done a beautiful job re-creating this world for the OG fans and for the Dune neophytes. The world of Dune is already complex, and to really give it the value it needs may take a TV show (...I know). The silver screen must take the audience into account. Again, a lot of people are unfamiliar with Dune, and Villeneuve did a great job with introducing this world to them. The sets and views were breathtaking. I'm just looking forward to part 2, and possibly part 3. I'm looking forward to a more in-depth dive into the characters. This film was a love letter to both the OGs and the neophytes. Welcome to Arrakis! It's only the beginning. Expand

My only criticism is that the Zimmer sound track sounds too much like the sound track from The Lion King.
The movie felt like it only lasted 10 minutes.
The acting is very strong. The visuals are both stunning and realistic.
Watch Dune, it is the source for 50% of Star Wars.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Loved this movie, so much more detail than the 1984 dune movie. Dune 2021 elaborates more on the points that was missed with every move prior to this. A lot of people will complain about how the ‘84 was able to complete the whole movie in one run but it was messy and a flop. Dune 2021 stops at a fantastic point it keeps the audience wanting more. For True Dune fans we all know part 2 is going to be legendary , just like with any great roller coster you need to build your way up to the top it’s still exciting during the process but that drop is doing to knock your socks off. I"m probably in the minority wishing the movie had been a tad longer to better flesh out some secondary characters, but otherwise it was actually better than I expected, given the difficult source material.
Many have criticized the ending of this first part, but I think it was forced on the director by the studio decision to not finance both parts of the movie at once: given the several-year production pause, he had to stop at a point where his younger actors could age a bit without it looking jarring in the resulting film.

Right now I'm honestly putting this film in my Top 10 or 11th im 50/50. I'm not kidding, this film is better than i thought it would be and i already thought this film will be perfect.

Certain dialogue was missing but didn't harm the storytelling or the plot. For those who haven't read to book there is a slight time jump from parts 1 and 2 in the book and where the movie left off was near where the time jump happens. While those who haven't read the book are confused and feel that the story was incomplete, trust me you would be even more confused with the time jump and the rate of the second half of the book . Trust me it gets better. If you feel like reading the book in-between watching the movies you may enjoy this movie for what it is part one of an exciting first novel in an incredibly intriguing series where each book brings a new faucet to your understanding of the world of Dune. People claiming that it was hard to follow simply cannot piece together the masterfully subtle clues and storytelling. People claiming that characters were soulless must have watched with their eyes closed and missed the fantastic and intense acting. Someone claimed the technology didn't make sense, for example asking "why do they have spaceships yet use swords instead of guns?" The movie clearly demonstrates (multiple times) that you cannot simply use guns against the personal forcefields because they intercept high-velocity projectiles. Some of these troll reviewers must love being spoon-fed exposition because they are clearly not capable of observing and interpreting storytelling without frequent explanations about everything in direct terms so they don't get lost. Yes, Dune has multiple books of complex lore that could not be fit into five movies, much less two. But, the movie presents enough of it in a way that is understandable and not overwhelming. You just have to pay attention, observe, and use deductive reasoning to figure some things out. It really isn't hard. Some of these reviewers are absurdly dense. Anyone who has read the Dune series could not have asked for a better film adaptation, especially given the modern climate of CGI-clickbait movies with ham-fisted or nonsensical storytelling full of plot holes. This movie literally focused on 2 and a half hours of 3-4 major plot scenes. I will say that this movie is a "special snowflake" or "hidden gem" if you will, because it focuses on heavy dream/intuition, as Paul is someone who has insights and hunches that frequently turn out to be correct. You're literally watching someone tapping into the unconscious things of life lol
Other than that, people can find the action quite enjoyable and thrilling.

Many rate it lower and I think for that reason is because they don't fully understand the main characters because they find intuition unappealing to lead in a movie.

It's a film about politics, drama and sci-fi done with an audiovisual proposal colossal and unparalleled. Indeed, this film isn't indifferent to the action scenes, they're subtle also massive. Every single shot converges with the sets to create a new multisensory experience around all the film. All the performances were great and unforgettable. The script is very good, but treating of a First Part, the film abruptly ends. The Sci-Fi isn't far to the past films of Denis Villeneuve (Arrival and Blade Runner 2049), but with Dune, instead to stay in his comfort zone, go a step up adapting the most unadaptable film. I can't wait for the next step in this new franchise. Expand
