The prime example of a below-average film. It wasn't a bad watch, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it. It's certainly an MCU film, and one of the poorer ones at that - but I don't consider it a bad film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really feel that there was the potential for a really good movie here but it's never realized because, well Disney is Disney.
Firstly I will say that overall the emotional scenes in this movie are very good and feel impactful. Letitia Wright is a good actress and with the rest of the talented cast they do a good job of continuing the story of Wakanda while being respectful to the passing of Chadwick Boseman.
However there are definite problems with the script which severely impacted my enjoyment of the movie.
The whole Riri/Ironheart plot is very obviously a last minute addition. It feels forced and unnecessary and could very easily have been cut with only small changes to the overall story.
Secondly even though this is close to a three hour movie Namor and the nation of Talokan doesn't get fleshed out enough and the whole plot as to why they would attack Wakanda is paper thin.
They also feel very underwhelming and even though the movie really tries to present them as a credible threat it frankly feels strange that they should be this dangerous to a nation with the technology and military capability of Wakanda even with their super strength and water bombs.
Also while I'm not opposed to Shuri becoming the Black Panther I really feel more time should have been spent on her transition into the role instead of cramming it into the last third. Shuri was always a scientist and the most we ever saw her fight before was using the sonic(?) arm cannons in a handful of scenes in the previous movies. I really would have liked to see her grow more into the role before just jumping in to the final fight with Namor.
Overall this was ok. It was fine for an evenings entertainment and definitely not the worst Marvel has produced but compared to what they were making a few years ago this isn't close to their best and the sad thing is that it really feels like it could have been if they had tightened up the script and made the antagonist more believable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Simple terms. This is another below average MCU film. Phase 4 is still not living up to the legacy of the usually solid/enjoyable phase 1-3 films. Ignoring the other very obvious flaws to this film I want to point out my biggest problem. Wakanda hasn't learnt ANYTHING! What was the purpose of the first film where it was a huge deal about Wakanda finally being apart of the world. That is for nothing here. Its like as soon as Thanos was defeated Wakanda slipped back into its recluse ways. They do not want to trade Vibranium with the rest of the world? Okay fine, it is very dangerous. But... You can't just not do anything. Especially after promising you'd provide some aid. Wakanda comes off as a bad guy to the UN as they want what you specifically told them you'd provide. You can't make promises you never have any intention of fulfilling. So Wakanda already comes across as disconnected from the rest of the world. So when people investigating Vibranium outside Wakanda turn up dead, of course they are the first and only suspects... Something they do nothing to discourage. Which for a while was fine. But at the end of the film... Where its Wakanda verses the Fish people (forget their names) Wakanda still choses to stand completely alone... Apparently just for the purpose of setting up a 3rd movie... Also on the fish people and Namor topic. I have never seen a supposed sympathetic enemy whose been so quick and consistent in killing innocent civilians. These are meant to be a mirror of Wakanda's own people but when they invaded Wakanda's capital it was the civilian areas targeted first. Theres one point when a fish people grabs some poor fisherman off his refuge just to drown him. Expand

Without getting into major spoilers, the MacGuffin they use to explain T'challa's death is so out of left field and you're thinking how could Wakanda not have the "cure" for that. They can solve literally world hunger. His funeral they set up wasn't as impactful as it should have been and it didn't show what the citizens were emoting or going through really in detail. It was brushed off and easily forgotten. Should they have just recast Black Panther? The villain in this had awful motives that were insane and made me want to see Killmonger again in the first one. I didn't like what happened to a certain character towards the second act that had me pissed instead of being sad, she was the best part of this. Almost fell asleep at parts too as it drags and unnecessary side questing that is inconsequential to the plot gets boring fast. Follows the same MCU formula to play it safe, at this point, it is such a meme. I'd much rather prefer a tribute short on a streaming service like what we saw at the end credits on the beach instead of a full feature-length film with this script. Not worth the ticket price tbh sorry not sorry. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The move was too long and boring. The death of T challa was handled in a terrible way and all of the Male characters were sidelined, so the woman characters can take the lead. I’d say namor was the only interesting character in the movie. Now shuri as the black panther was a bad decision, they should’ve recasted the role of T challa. Expand

Another Marvel Pander Fest.
The first Black Panther was an Ok film. I found it typical and boring and over inflated. This film follows suit in just about every standard. The only real difference here is that it is all female driven and packed full of unnecessary gunk. Character reveals and sloppy CGI.
Now don't confuse that with the films look. It looks great if you are into green screen flat computer renderings and questionable lighting choices and angles to hide errors and or laziness.
Then there is the elephant in the room. The whole film is centered around paying homage to a man who unfortunately left the scene To early. He was talented and carried the character with respect and strength. But here is 2 + hours of praising him like he was Sidney Poitier, which he wasn't. If you want a super hero movies and preach eulogy all at the same time with some silly ankle wings thrown in in for eyerolls, by all means go for it.
If you want to go home feeling good after the experience skip it.

Marvel Phase 4 really ended strong. It is highly recommended. Ryan Coogler has accomplished the impossible. All-around great acting by Angela Basset, Letitia Wright, and all the other supporting cast. And Namor is one of the best MCU villains. A loving and respected tribute to the Great Chadwick Boseman. Riri Williams is an instant fan favorite

The score from Ludwig Göransson did not miss at all. The VFX, BGM the acting were so damn good and the Mid Credit scene is one of the most touching and emotional moments in the MCU. I would have preferred if it was 10 minutes shorter but then again I think it was necessary. Angela Basset deserves an Oscar Nomination for sure. CBM of the Year without a doubt.

Wow this movie is a complete disaster. I don't even know where to start. TLDR do not give these people your money.
The movie runtime is 2 hours too long. You will be bored start to finish. It has no substance at all. In the previous movie you actually wanted to know what was going to happen, but this movie is the exact opposite. It starts nowhere and ends nowhere. So much unnecessary dialogue that slows the show to a crawl.
Every character is annoying and unlikable. I hate to say this but this franchise is done. NONE of these characters can carry another movie. You won't care what happens because these aren't people you're supposed to care about.
CGI is below average. Action scenes are pathetic. Way too much depressing drama. I can't imagine anyone leaving the theater thinking this was a good movie.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So you go onto Twitter only to see a tweet from... Chadwick Boseman!? Yes you heard me right they turned a dead guy into marketing for this gosh damned movie just like Stan Lee for NFT's marvel sure likes to use dead guys to market unfiltered Scheme like this. let's check it out.

So the bad guy is a genocidal maniac who wants to kill everyone who hasn't drunken the funny purple juice as long as they cooperate.

The 'good guys' want to keep the peace, apparently by promising to give resources to the rest of the world. Then not giving the resources to the rest of the world. yeah, remember the end of the first black panther where Wakanda promised to give resources to help the world, yeah that's completely scrapped.

So the movie opens with Shuri trying to save her brother, then he dies. The metaness is insane. Then it cuts to a funeral where people are wearing white and smiling and dancing in slow motion, then the coffin of chad- I mean Thchalla gets beamed up into the sky.

So this is a bit too meta as in extremely meta,
So Tchalla hid his chronic illness from everyone
Just like Chadwick
Tchalla died from a chronic illness
Just like Chadwick
See what I mean.

So to skip forward a little bit, Shuri and Romanda encounter Namor at a river, and he threatens that if they don't find and kill the girl who made the vibranium detector he will invade Wakanda.

Speaking of the vibranium detector let's speak about that, it's fairly simple it detects vibranium somehow.

So Shuri calls Everett Ross a colonizer then goes to find Everett Ross the (most heroic person in the first film) and they ask him who made the machine, which leads them to RI Williams the Iron Man replacement and McMuffin of this film

Ri Williams is an inventor and in her own words "young gifted and black" certainly gifted since she managed to make a vibranium detector despite being in college and having never even touched vibranium.

Anyway they kidnap her and the police chase after them, and then they kill all the police then encounter Namors goons at a bridge where Shuri and RI gets kidnapped by Namors goons then basically nothing happens for 30 minutes and then Shari and RI get kidnapped, and they get into a submarine in Wakanda. Yes a landlocked nation has a navy. Then a big fight happens and somehow the genocidal maniac switches sides in 1 minute.

So that was trash.

If I forgot anything, it's probably because I didn't rewatch the movie to write this.

Oh and also Letitia Wright is not good enough in physical stature to play black panther and Namors actor is not imposing, and he has little wings on his feet, and he's in a green nappy, so he is really not intimidating at all the only thing that improves in this is Letitas acting and the CGI, it doesn't hold a candle to the original and that's hard to do since the original sucks Arch too.

-great villain who will be a big part of the Mcu moving forward
-decent story (although not impressive writing)
-has the classic Mcu feel to it, unlike the rest of phase 4
-great soundtrack and great song by Rihanna

Cons:
-Too drawn out (becomes boring at times)
-Anticlimactic ending (although surprising mid-credit scene)
-A hand full of useless scenes that have no purpose but to make the movie longer

Overhyped movie not worth the money
Marvel has failed with the next entry in the Black Panther series. This movie has been hyped too much and doesn't deliver on the acting or story front.
They tried to focus too much on the death of black panther (Chadwick Boseman). It seems a good idea for a start of the movie but not good for the whole movie. The new black panther is not as good and charismatic as Chad and movie clearly shows that.
CGI was also not up to the mark. It looked good visually in some of the scenes but overall it looked much forced and unnecessary.
Overall, this movie lacked the charm, depth and good action sequences to be considered an effective superhero movie. It was pretty mediocre and boring.

It’s the kind of film that shows comic book movies can indeed go beyond action sequences and endless explosions to offer viewers something more meaningful and substantial, a result capable of silencing critics like filmmaker Martin Scorsese, who blanketly contend that these releases are without artistic merit. What’s more, this second outing in the franchise has undoubtedly saved it from oblivion after losing its lead character in the wake of its initial outing with the untimely death of protagonist Chadwick Boseman. In addition to telling a compelling story, this film provides a credible bridge to the future while fittingly serving as a respectful tribute to its fallen star, one that honors the actor in a way that the movie industry unfortunately never did. Its tactful, reverential treatment of this issue is sure to evoke an emotional response, if not a few tears, in a truly loving but not maudlin way. Beyond that, the narrative and character development in this installment are also a significant cut above the original, telling a more engaging story with deftly nuanced themes that make its predecessor look comparatively simple. It also features fine performances by its ensemble cast, particularly Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and, most notably, Angela Bassett in a genuinely Oscar-worthy portrayal. But what’s most impressive is the film’s handling of its principal themes, delving into concepts that action-adventure offerings rarely, if ever, do, and certainly not as capably addressed as here (making pictures like “The Woman King” appear somewhat amateurish by comparison). To be sure, there are a few elements that might have been handled better (the picture is a little too long, it underutilizes the talents of Winston Duke, and there are a few too many James Cameron-esque graphic and cinematic attributes reminiscent of “Avatar” (2009) and “The Abyss” (1989)), but these are minor shortcomings in comparison to everything else the picture has to offer. Of course, it’s impossible to talk about this release without noting that it probably wouldn’t have the same onscreen impact were it not for the tragic offscreen story that has sadly accompanied it, though the filmmakers truly deserve praise for their sensitive handling of this matter without giving in to cheap exploitation or sensationalism, results that may very well have occurred in lesser-skilled hands. It’s truly comforting to see that the “Black Panther” franchise has managed to weather this storm and to do so as well as it has. Wakanda Forever indeed. Expand

Shuri is a horrible choice to pass the torch as the new black panther and the retarded team of writers from Disney and Marvel basically ruined Namor by changing his back story so much just for the sake of avoiding similarities with aquaman. The lady who plays the rather boring iron heart has zero charisma and the introduction of this failed comic book character was completely unnecessary and does not add any value to the movie or the MCU. The movie suffers from horrible pacing with a somewhat decent first act, an ultra long and boring 2nd act, and a rushed finale. The MCU is truly dead! Expand

I am speechless. I came out of that cinema with some wet tissues and an enchanted feeling. everything about this movie had my jaw on the floor from the music and soundtrack to the acting, culture, villain and most importantly, the perfection in how marvel handled chardwicks death. they created an everlasting legacy for him in thi film and never made his character to be easily replaceable. his death so notably left a hole in the universe and gave such a beautiful and raw touch to his legacy. im so glad that his death was something that shuri couldn't have stopped, instead. it was a part of life. an illness. I'm o glad they dint tarnish it with some stupid fight scene or him dying in battle. rather. using rawness and human problems to bring light to his own outside the character. from beginning to end, they made constant tributes to him and his everlasting character. usinga gentle or no soundtrack in his scenes, especially the opening marvel scene that had his tribute rather than the entire mcu cast. just him. because thats the movie. its him and his legacy its chwdwick and the black panther. constantly, his characterwas remembered as something great, something irreplaceable. so many scenes drove me to complex emotions I teared up sooo much in that movie.

the music moved me as well. I felt empowered whenever there was African music and calm when they included Spanish music. I felt shaken and alert at fight scenes and sentimental and tribute scenes. just everything about this movie tbh.

there is no words I can use to peice together thr perfection o it. the characters the cast shuris devopment killmonger the queen the music the visuals the cinematography the visual effects omg the visual effects. the tribute the plot the writing just everything.

the only only reason I rste it a 9 and not 10 was because it was quite long with some jnnescasry scenes that coul be used to instead deepen the rich plot, rather some scenes rake away from this.

but it doesn't distract from the masterpiece marvel created so don't worry.

go watch it right now its amazing wow.
I genuinely don't know why it has such mediocre ratings it hurts my heart.

Never seen such a boring Marvel movie, don't do this to your audience please. I had to tel my self to wait & not leave the theatre in the hope that something nice & exciting would come up, but I was obviously let down in the end.
I was totally let down on the entry of the new Black Panther & apart from this every scene was so predictable & obvious. No hopes left from the MCU now, please bring the light back into your movies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is by far 10/10. It is probably one of my top three favorite marvel movies. The main element is sadness. This movie is meant to show loss and pouring. These are the deaths of T'Chall and Ramonda. Shuri is forced to learn and become the queen. She puts in the work and becomes the black panther. When she goes to the ancestral plane instead of seeing her family she sees Killmonger. This says that we all have a little bad in us. This movie was so amazing and I definitely recommend seeing (more than once) Expand

Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020) R.I.P.

I'm so disappointed
I am honestly disappointed with what I just watched. The first black panther film moved the world but this sequel sucked.
There's a whole arc in this film that literally exists to set up future projects and honestly would have been a much better film without this. Like how can they have the audacity to do this with the most important MCU film since endgame, it's a slap in the face. And on top of that the character in question was terrible (not too surprising considering original iron heart comic was also terrible).
All I've been hearing about this film is how it go it's Chadwicks legacy, I may be wrong her and people can take what they saw differently to me but where was all this? A quick death/write off in the beginning and ok a good looking funeral then it's one year later and goodbuy T'Challa. I think they seriously messed this up, T'Challa is arguably the most important MCU character since Iron Man and that's what they give him? I mourned the loss of Chadwick like we all did but I just felt that the character was done serious injustice here. Should've definitely been recast , they underestimated how much the character means to the world (ours and MCU).
Namor was the only saving grace for me, but sorry what was that ending? Made him look so weak. I hated how ironheart just figured out his weakness and it was thrown off because of how intelligent she is, really awful.
I wish I could sit down with Ryan Coogler and pick his brain about what went on here. I know it was always going to be difficult but I felt like there could've been so much more done with this film.

It’s hard to imagine this franchise without him and his loss is felt throughout this sequel. Although not as good as the first Black Panther movie it’s still one of the better post Avengers: Endgame movies.

The nation of Wakanda are still in mourning over the death of King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and now face a new threat. Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Okoye (Danai Gurira) must fight to protect their home against multiple threats coming their way. With other nations desperate to get their hands on some precious vibranium to a new nation making themselves known and without the Black Panther to protect Wakanda they must do whatever it takes to defend their home and people.

It’s clear everyone is still feeling the huge loss of Chadwick Boseman and this obviously created problems for the cast and crew to continue the franchise and despite everything I feel they did the best they could under the circumstances. Director Ryan Coogler made the right call not to recast T’Challa and even though his character is missed it’s paved the way for a new Black Panther to take over.

The performances from the cast are the best thing about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Letitia Wright steps up as Princess Shuri, Angela Bassett is a show stealer in every scene she’s in. Honestly the woman never gives a bad performance. We also have the return of Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Danai Gurira. All excellent characters, well written and with more room now to develop them. Wakanda Forever has more heart and deeper themes running throughout compared to some of the other rubbish being churned out in the superhero genre.

Every single comic book movie is only as good as their villain/antihero, you can have an amazing movie with a perfect cast but get the villain wrong and it will suffer. Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) in Black Panther was a tough act to follow and unfortunately Namor (Tenoch Huerta) didn’t quite live up to expectations. As the story progresses it eventually ends up at the big showdown. Ultimately being a giant lackluster fight scene although at least it didn’t feature a giant blue laser or some other ridiculous nonsense. The action sequences are a huge let down but everything else from the emotion, the costume designs and another exceptional score by Ludwig Göransson are the best thing about Wakanda Forever. Thankfully it’s not overloaded with endless slow-motion action sequences and messy fight scenes. It’s far more emotional than expected and you can feel the grief through it all.

A common issue that is cropping up in more and more movies, particularly superhero movies these days is the state of the CGI. The CGI in many of the Marvel and DC films seems to be getting worse with every new movie, this isn’t helped when more and more of them now rely so heavily on it. It’s difficult to single out scenes that don’t incorporate some form of special effects and sure fair enough when Black Panther has created new worlds that need to be shown with CGI fine, use it where necessary but if there’s not enough time to make it look good then more time is clearly needed to finish it. There is another film on the horizon that’s also going to feature underwater blue people and they’re going to be compared to each other, there’s no getting around that. Visual effects have improved in recent years, so when you look at a film like War For the Planet of the Apes and see where the bar is, it’s not good enough to release something beneath that level. Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Adam and now Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as I said before either pay the VFX artists better or allow more time to make it actually look decent.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever although not as good as the first Black Panther is an entertaining sequel. You’ll enjoy it in the moment despite it being overly long. And yes, there’s a mid-credits scene that is definitely worth staying for. Recommended for the Marvel fans.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Too many dumb things to list but right from the beginning it misplays an opportunity to honor King T'Challa in a better way. A universe saving Avenger dies and there are no Avengers at the funeral? Its sad that we have come to expect bad writing like this from Marvel, but here we are. The performances are good and the film looks cool. But just like current new Marvel drivel, you have to turn your brain off. What a shame. I'm glad I didn't pay for this. Expand

The best story telling in a marvels movie ever. It was always going to be a challenge to come back without Chadwick but the whole cast and crew did not come to play. I'm in tears and beaming with pride

A good movie that takes on some topics mainstream superhero movies in the west are rarely willing to deal with. I'd be happy to watch again when it comes out on streaming platforms and would easily recommend to a friend.

The short review: This film lingers far too long on the grief following the death of King T'challa, giving it a far too slow a pace that drops the film from 'good' to 'middling'.

HeWakanda Forever proves to be a great end to an otherwise inconsistent phase 4. Ryan Coogler truly nails the story, direction, and cinematography of this film, adding depth and impressive camerawork to the MCU that oftentimes feels missing. He also adds complex themes regarding grief, vengeance, and nationalism that leave the audience thinking in the end about the content of the film, rather than just mindlessly consuming it like some MCU movies. Additionally, the characters (namely Shuri and Namor, who deserves his own series or movie) and actors associated with them, are phenomenal, although I did find the inclusion of both Riri Williams and Everett Ross to be superfluous. The action sequences are also much improved over the first film thanks to better (but still sometimes middling) CGI. As difficult as this movie was to get made given the circumstances surrounding its production, Ryan Coogler and company still manage to create another very compelling project that hopefully is a sign of better things to come for an MCU that's been getting stale and mixed in quality. The story has a few weaknesses and Chadwick Boseman is deeply missed. Might sound too negative as the story was also never boring, I liked the cast, humour, climax and at the end I was entertained. I should also mentioned that neither Atlantis nor Namor are like the comic book sources but Tenoch Huerta sold me the character. Also you should know that Riri Williams is a red flag for Marvel comic readers. She should replace Ironman aka Tony Stark in the comics when Robert Downey Jr. made the character as popular as never before. It should not surprise that this was a bad idea that flopped. For me in this movie Riri Williams works well and I was invested. Dominique Thorne sold me the character. The overall story while entertaining has weaknesses. For example the reason for the conflict between the two factions is nonsensical. Even a below average leader should find better solutions as Namor and it blows the cover that protects his people better than anything else. I am a bit vague to avoid spoilers but you can easily guess what I meant The actors deliver a good performance. I like the old characters that returned and new ones introduced. I should also say it is not and I repeat not a woke abomination like some people say. Optically I like the style of the movie. The sets look beautiful, the costumes are excellent and the special effects work as always. Lastly I liked the action scenes and battles. Overall I give a 7/10 but think that without Black Panther 1 I would go higher. Worth watching. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m going to keep it very simple…I hope lol. I enjoyed the movie and I was happy seeing Shuri take up the mantle of BP (comic accurate for some). It really missed Chadwick Boseman. It’s no one’s fault but it needed the real BP RIP. If you were a fan it does give him a lot of respect and sends him off in tremendous fashion (if that makes sense.) It is very emotional. The opening scene is one of the best in the movie simply bc I felt like we lost Chadwick all over again. Expand

A lot of people complain about wokeness or diversity A lot of people wanted a recasting of Chadwick Boseman
A lot of people are touchy about funerals
=> Which really arent about the quality of the movie itself. The movie is good. Has a lot of humanity, emotion, morality ... Most of the charaters have completly undersandable positions and goals.
