This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, the start of the movie was very funny and nicely portrayed the Barbie world just as the trailers suggested. But as soon as they go to the real world the story suggested by the trailer falls apart. This movie is extremely political and misandrist. It portrays men as useless, dominating perverts and supports their oppression by women. The plot climax is the males (Kens) doing what the females (Barbies) have been doing to them all along, and the resolution is the males getting oppressed again. I initially thought the film was intentionally ironic with this plot because it was so far fetched, but on further thought I was grasping on to what little reference I could come up with to male specific problems. If this movie was actually balanced then deep analysis wouldn't be required to find the male support.

One scene that is truly evident of the films feminist propaganda is the arrest of Barbie and Ken when they enter the real world. Barbie hits a guy who sexually assaults her, the guy seemingly suffers no repercussions but Barbie gets arrested with all the perverted (male) cops enjoying it along the way.

The lack of any politics in the films advertising suggests it's a Trojan horse for feminist propaganda. I'm not quite that far in my thinking, I like believe it was avoiding the topic due to Disney's failure with woke films.

Overall... yay to oppression in the name of equality... I guess.

He wouldn't have had a lengthy rant telling the audience how bad half of them are. As a woman, yes, really, this was depressingly divisive. It really felt like this was made by someone who has never been hugged by a nice man. Or met one. It's just sad. I left it feeling sad. Is that the point? Marketing for this was also brilliant, I thought this would be a mashup of Enchanted and the Lego movie and just expected at worst it would be predictable. But women, we can do better than this whinefest. Men aren't all that bad. Really. Also, the world-building felt lazy. It could and should have been explored more - what does it mean that there's a 'barbie world' that people can just visit? What about actually using it to solve world issues? Are there other worlds like this? A Thundercats world? I want to know! Expand

The clothing really looks like gorgeous fashion for dolls. I finally did start laughing once Ken started to stumble through his own unfortunate awakening. I liked the cameos, especially Dua Lipa. I looked for Lizzo but if she's in it I missed it. I don't like to sh*t on people's hard work, so let me counter the fact of this movie with a proposition for a similar future project: make a Barbie movie that is like _Drunk History_, but narrated by sober children. You get normal kids who play with Barbies and have them tell you what their Barbies are doing. Usually it will be a string of surprises, reenactments of stories they saw elsewhere.. but some of these will be novel, coherent stories. Take those and illustrate them with the same lavish detail as in the *Barbie* movie I just watched. I think that would save everything I love about this movie and trim out everything else. Expand

One of the worst and most controversial films in very long time. It is highest degree of third wave feminist man hating fantasy.

The way men are treated in this movie, is absolutely horrible and that's the only realistic part in this movie. Because men are treated horribly in real world as well. I have seen so many reviewers point out how this movie shows how badly women were treated and are treated right now. Yeah, i guess that's why men's suicide rate has been sky-high past 10 years. But i guess if you are rich or semi rich woman who lives in gate-protected LA neighborhoods, no wonder you don't know ANYTHING about real world.

This movie had most misleading marketing of all time. Yes, i mean it. Out of all movies ever made, this one takes the prize. They got so many young people hyped to watch fun-happy-go-lucky summer movie. Instead they got another feminist lecture and of course radical feminists in their 30s and 40s love it.

Thankfully this movie will be forgotten very soon.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It starts first with a narration about how before the advent of the Barbie, most Victorian girls were catered into a motherly role due to only having baby dolls to take care for and not a womanly figure that those girls could relate to with jobs once just for the man. That's where we're then shown Barbieland, and the ultimate beach bum that's Ken while Barbie lives out her perfect life where every night is a girl's night. Until she starts to have strange thoughts of death, which manifest into her becoming more like a real person rather than a plastic doll; she's told she has to visit the "Weird Barbie" where she's told that she has to find the girl playing with her to figure out her family situation better (a plot so far reminiscent of Ursula from the Little Mermaid, especially with the P1NK look from being roughhoused by a careless toddler). Ken ends up sneaking for the ride and we're just seen how 'slobby' our society is, dudes getting all zany and catcalling before one slaps her ass then they get indicted after she hits him back. After all that, she meets the daughter of who proceeds to call her a 'fascist' and mention how 'she set the feminist movement back 50 years', all the while Barbieland is being transformed into a 'Kendom' as Barbie's Dreamhouse is now 'Ken's MoJo DoJo Casa House' with every southern country depiction possible complete with horses. We only witness the unfolding of after the mother overhears the Matel executive board and finds her real life Barbie, who offers to bring her back to her perfectly matriarchal life. After an empowering speech about women's rights, they proceed to formulate a plan that involves individually telling the speech to each Barbie after they're separated by their Ken's and gaslighting them into having their hayday until acting upon their insecure egos in order to break their patriarchy apart. Overall, a movie that comes off strongly like the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters; during which year, it was reviewed as being "stunning and brave" with the same misandry-esque storytelling (that time, replacing an all-male cast mind you). I couldn't stomach another minute of that relentless preaching. It's like they're trying to hammer their third wave feminist agenda into your brain so forcefully that any ounce of actual enjoyment, feminine vibes, or damn entertainment gets crushed under its weight. I tried to cut some slack for how they treated those damn Ken dolls, since they're targeting young girls with this toy line garbage. But let's be real, the vast majority of the humor, commentary, and hell, even the message itself, would fly miles over the heads of those innocent kids they're aiming at. Barbie, of all things, goes on to spell out to a bunch of construction workers how she's missing a damn vagina and Ken's packing nothing down there. Yeah, that's what she says, and we're supposed to believe this is appropriate for little kids? And how the hell would they even grasp anatomy at that age? If these dolls are supposedly a reflection of the little girls playing with them, what the hell's going on with the rest of the damn Barbies? Are we supposed to think those girls aren't dealing with the same crap? Maybe they half-heartedly explain it later, who knows. Like I said, I hauled my ass out because I couldn't stand the way they were shoving that damn message down my throat. Expand

"Barbie's Latest Flick" claims to offer excitement but delivers a reality check instead. Picture this: characters with the depth of a puddle, a plot thinner than a whisper, and emotions as genuine as a three-dollar bill.

Hold onto your popcorn as Barbie and Co. prove that character development is an urban myth. With all the charisma of cardboard cutouts, they sprint through a story more predictable than a sunrise. And as for empathy? You'd have better luck feeling for a rock.

Remember those tantalizing trailers? Well, buckle up for a masterclass in false advertising. The film dupes viewers like a magician's sleight of hand. What seemed like a grand adventure turned out to be an expedition into tedium.

In a world of missed opportunities, "Barbie's Bland Adventure" reigns supreme. It's like watching paint dry, but without the thrill. So, if you seek a cinematic masterpiece, look elsewhere. Barbie's latest escapade leaves you questioning life's most profound mysteries: why, oh why, did I choose this film?

In summary, "Barbie's Bland Adventure" proves that sometimes, even a doll's smile can't mask a story's emptiness. With more fluff than substance, it's a reminder that not all that glitters is gold.

Title: Barbie and the Quest for Individuality - A Propaganda of Worthless Ideology Packaged into Pink Wrap Paper
Barbie and the Quest for Individuality is the latest addition to the long-running Barbie movie franchise. As a childhood fan of Barbie, I was genuinely excited to watch this movie and hoped for a story that would empower young girls to embrace their uniqueness and dreams. However, what I got was a disappointing display of propaganda masquerading as a feel-good animated film.

The movie revolves around Barbie, who sets out on a journey to find her true self and discovers the importance of individuality. On the surface, this might seem like a positive message, but it is heavily marred by the execution and underlying implications. The film pushes an unrealistic and superficial notion of individuality, promoting an ideology that values outward appearance and material possessions above all else.

The storyline is clichéd and fails to engage the audience. Instead of a compelling narrative that encourages girls to pursue their passions, overcome challenges, and think critically, the movie devolves into a predictable sequence of events where Barbie's only concerns are her looks, wardrobe, and accumulating material possessions.

Additionally, the movie lacks any meaningful character development. Barbie remains a shallow, one-dimensional character throughout, and the supporting cast merely serves as cookie-cutter stereotypes. There is a glaring lack of diverse representation, which is a missed opportunity to promote inclusion and equality in the story.

The film's use of pink wrap paper only exacerbates the issue. Instead of challenging traditional gender norms and breaking free from outdated stereotypes, Barbie and the Quest for Individuality reinforces them. The excessive emphasis on appearance and material possessions perpetuates the harmful notion that a woman's worth lies solely in her outward beauty and consumerism.

As a responsible adult and a former fan of Barbie, I cannot in good conscience recommend this movie to young girls or their parents. It lacks the depth and substance needed to inspire and empower the next generation. Instead, it promotes a regressive and hollow ideology, packaged in a glittery pink facade.

In conclusion, Barbie and the Quest for Individuality is a disappointing display of propaganda disguised as entertainment. It fails to live up to its potential as a vehicle for positive messaging and empowerment, instead perpetuating harmful stereotypes and superficial ideals. Parents should be cautious about exposing their children to this film, as it might inadvertently reinforce damaging values rather than inspire greatness.

It just didn’t make scene there was so much going on that didn’t have closure. My perspective I think it starts out okay, about women empowerment, feminism, a Barbie can be everything and anything a doctor a lawyer etc but then it gets dark, inequalities that women face, mother roles and responsibilities, getting older, Male& female roles how men can quickly hold authority and power, Barbie becomes depressed because she doesn’t feel pretty anymore bc she’s not the STEREOTYPICAL Barbie bc the person playing with her is depressed and draws cellulite pictures of her (which is an older women in her late 30s) so Barbie get cellulite and in Barbie land that’s a malfunction and you’re considered “weird”she starts thinking about death and becomes depressed, she loses her confidence and at the end she doesn’t even want to be Barbie anymore she wants to be human and goes to see her GYN .. what?? .. Maybe I pay too much attention to details and the meaning behind each thing. But she doesn’t stay Barbie because childhood isn’t meant to be forever only in barbie land which doesn’t exist anymore / because we become older and aware exposed to the real world such as emotions “depression, crying” therefore destroyed and then we die .. I wouldn’t watch it again .. and tell me why 1 doll is gay but he can’t be a Ken He is “just Alan” and being pregnant is unexceptional bc Mattel will discontinue that kind of Barbie .. terrible movie Expand

Sure the costumes and set design are fun but that’s about all I liked about the movie, pretty disappointing with how long the wait for it felt. The plot, what plot when you think it’s going somewhere it go’s somewhere completely different, the characters are thin and the character relationship dynamics are non existent, apart from that there’s some identity politics thrown in that takes over the second half of the film, and regardless of whatever way you feel on that subject, the whole thing feels like an ironic take, like it’s going to have a gottach moment (like at the opening) but it never comes and then all of a sudden the films ending with a barely fleshed out story for the main barbie. I can’t say kids would like this movie, if I could say anyone would like it it’s probably for young adults still living sheltered at home, but even then I’m not sure, like others have said “who was this movie even for?” I don’t think Barbie needed to be “deep” and making it that way really accomplished anything constructive either, I would of much preferred a fun pretty feel good comedy, the movie was a massive downer At the end my take away from this movie is “Nothing” I’m never going to watch it again and probably going to forget about it all together.

Go watch Enchanted 2007 instead, and actually have a enjoyable time

Why do people seem to enjoy this?
The first part of the movie and all the other scenes set in Barbie-land were a huge sensory overload for me. Everything is violently colorful, things happen super fast and everyone is screaming in a strange voice while trying to outscream each other. This Barbie-land is supposed to be a super joyful place but honestly it just made me nauseous. At this point I was praying for it to be over and had a really hard time following what's going on.

It gets better when they arrive in the real word, but I seriously don't get why people call it "deep" and "philosophical" because most of the dialouge is cliché at best and at times it's absolute cringe. It tries real hard to deal with serious topics but keeps explaining things like you're a 5-year-old.

Emotions are also portrayed a super weird way in this movie (I guess because we're dealing with dolls, but still, sometimes this level of over-acting just hurts to watch), and a lot of things happen randomly without any explanation. It's also not for (small) kids. There were a lot of really small kids in the cinema when I went and most of them were super confused with some even crying, it was clear they couldn't really follow the plot and didn't get most of the supposed jokes.

Margot Robbies performance as Barbie was one of the better parts of the movie, and the initial parts of the movie make sense and are quite fun, it turns into a gloaty 2-hour monologue about social issues and the word patriarchy is said at least 30 times. The snob at corporate hypocrisy is probably the best part of the movie. A majority of the positive reviews praise it for its amazing cinematography, set design, costumes, and individual performances, but it is severely lacking in the story department. This doesn't save it from having a poorly constructed plot that seems to be falling back onto itself every time something makes sense. Its like trying to understand whats going on in the movie Tenet, except it isn't on purpose.
This movie had great potential, great acting, and almost everything that it needed to be a real "great" movie, but its stuck up nature and constant self hatred make it mediocre at best. Its a shame because some of Greta Gerwig's movies like Little Women and Lady Bird convey themes of self discovery and portray powerful women without having to force it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Felt like I paid to watch a two hour ad. While the movie is often funny and clever, it was overall disappointing.

Hollow overtures to feminism, overt misandry, and forced diversity were used to clean up Mattel's image and please the uncritical mainstream audience. While graphics were appealing, Barbies character itself is poorly developed & the storyline is incoherent… The story could not be resolved without Greta literally preaching her message at the end.

The movie could have been about feminism and equality, instead, however, it promotes matriarchy as solution to patriarchy. “Barbie” is reinforcing the problem. The movie touches on several interesting themes but never explores them which feels like wasted potential.

- The Mother-Daughter relationship. The daughter is disconnected with her mother and acts hostilely at school. You thought the movie will revolve about fixing that problem? No. The daughter has no problem. She's just a teenager.
- Thinking about death: The mother misses playing with her daughter and starts designing sad or “weird” Barbies. How does that relate to Barbie thinking about death specifically?
- The corporate: The corporate people who are all men try to catch Barbie so they can send her back to Barbieland. But when Barbie went to Barbieland they still followed her. It took them too long to get there for no apparent reason. And when they got there it just gets very confusing. Why are they in there?
- Barbie wanting to be human: A theme that starts with Barbie‘s interaction with an old lady and her observing other people. That motive disappears completely until the end, Barbie has no motivation to become human throughout the movie.
- Kens: The Movie tries to make Ken the bad guy even though he was just trying to be noticed and loved (woman good man bad mentality). You’d expect Ken has any meaningful development after the downfall of Kendom but he remains Barbie’s accessory.

Can’t tell any worst movie then this Hollywood is so dead. This movie lives from paid reviews and numbers which watched the movie because so many girls liked the doll, my girlfriend loved Barbie dolls so she wanted to see it, she hated the movie, if a second would come so many people would know how bad it is, never would fool me twice, I’m so sad that I paid a ticket and gave them my money.. I think they pulled all those parts for the ads specifically, because the actual substance of the film is anything but enjoyable or captivating.

The other 1-star reviewers made the points already for me, no sense in regurgitating unpleasantness.

I think WB, Mattel, or whoever else was behind the advertising of this film already knew what a dud it would be if the advertising gave an accurate portrayal of the actual storyline.

Seriously, who wants to watch almost two hours of crying and fist-waving at society, all in bright pink?

Because it's interesting to me how the happiest, brightest, comedic soundbites are what made it into the ad campaign.

Almost like such people know what the public actually likes, and being preached to about how unfair and unequal life is, isn't it!!

Left the theater feeling down on myself and society in general. I REALLY don't think the movie making powers-that-be "got the assignment".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a shame because I love Little Women and Lady Bird. Barbie did not serve.
It's a long ramble about how matriarchy is perfect and patriarchy is stupid. I'm agreeing with the latter, but the execution is just awful. The CEO and corporate people of Mattel started as a mock on men having all the top positions in a company, as the movie goes they're just there at the back of your mind and it's unpleasant experience because they did not do anything after. So many unnecessary scenes that could've been meaningful. For example, what's the scene Allan fighting other Kens for? I'm also surprised that there are no gay Barbies and Kens. I thought this was supposed to break the gender norms? There are so many seeds planted at once but none of them grew into their fullest potential. Here are some examples:

1. The mother and daughter relationship: It started well, the daughter is disconnected with her mother. You thought the movie will revolve about fixing that problem? No. The daughter has no problem. She's just a teenager.

2. Mother's longing for her daughter: The reason why barbie became curious about death is because the mother is playing with her barbie *differently*. She's drawing *weird* (sigh) Barbies. You thought it was because she had a rough childhood and now is the time to heal her inner child? No, she misses her time playing with her daughter. While it is an alright backstory, I see no reason how it is related to Barbie getting curious on death. 3. Patriarchy: It's always shown that patriarchy is for stupid men and their horses. The corporate people who are all men tries to catch Barbie so they can send her back to Barbieland. But barbie went to Barbieland and they STILL FOLLOWED HER. It took them too long to get there for no apparent reason. And when they got there it just gets very confusing. Why are they in there? Oh, it's because men are stupid? No, I'm not gonna laugh anymore. 4. Barbie wanting to be human: This should've been the theme of the movie. The point of the movie should've been about what Barbie saw to make her realize she wants to be human. But no, it was only a few minutes when she's seeing people laughing and some people are sad. After that, there was no more of it. They tried to push this in the ending but it just doesn't feel right because of the lack of motivation. Although it was expected. They wasted the whole time with cameos and other meaningless scenes.

I am disappointed in this movie. It's not worth the hype. It's incoherent. I really tried to make sense of the scenes I saw. If you want to see sisterhood, watch Mean Girls instead. At least in that movie they found sisterhood by letting each one of them know their worth, not by *unbrainwashing* them by a method very similar to brainwashing. They also did some weird things in Barbie like they manipulated the Kens by cheating on them. Men are stupid and it's the girls doing it so it's okay, I guess.

All the hype for very little buzz.

I just finished watching the Barbie movie and to say that I’ve been let down, by what once was a nostalgic love story from my childhood is an understatement.

I’ve read through so many of the 1 STAR reviews, and everything said so far is what I felt and thought.

This wasn’t the love story I think we all hoped for, or that was reflected in the movies previews (it was all a lie), in fact if I knew what this movie was actually going to be about (feminism, hatred for men etc) I would not have wasted my time or money on a ticket.

We go to the movies to get lost in excitement, Aww and wonder, to escape the mundane, to live vicariously through the actors on the screen…

The movie started off well, with all the glitz and glam your once young heart had desired, Ryan Gosling played a fantastic Ken, and Margo Robbie, if her character had been written better would have also been amazing.

Instead this movie was boring, it was man hatting much of the way through, I found myself checking my phone, waiting for it to end, and thinking will this get any better? Will I get a refund if I leave now?

Will Ferrel who is one of my favorite actors wasn’t memorable, the only memorable part of this movie is the love I have lost for the Barbie and Ken love story we all had hoped to see from this film.

I can’t believe Mattel were happy with its release, I feel like it was damaging to the Barbie brand.

This movie definitely isn’t for kids, or for people who once loved Barbie growing up.

Save yourself some money, and the heart break and just don’t even bother.

At the end of the movie, I looked around the theater and saw people sitting with all of this pretty Barbie propaganda and laughed as that’s not what the movie was about, or made you feel.

In fact I think the movie leaves you feeling somewhat empty, and sad, so much potential just wasted and for what?

Let's just say they use the word patriarchy about 100 times and curse words and talk multiple times about genitalia...this is not a family movie for kids, which it clearly should have been. Don't take your kids if you do go. It is sad to see this film do so well simply based upon the brand name which is being disgraced by this film. I am so tired of all this. No more theater going for my family. It just isn't worth this frustration every time. I don't care how charismatic the actors are or the work put into the sets--which was considerable and noteworthy. How can I describe the horror I feel when I realize this movie took years to make, received over $200 million dollars in a budget, was given such a beloved IP to play with, and was able to attract some of the top star power in the industry, and what was produced was just a single unbridled scream of hatred towards the male gender? Chances are, if you live in a society where you can make this movie, then the people you hate do not have the real power in it, you do. This movie doesn't just hate men, it loathes them. If this movie had been made targeting any other group, a public service announcement would be spread nationwide warning of violence against that group, news companies would report ever minute of every day of aggression towards them whether real or perceived, and the president would give a statement in support.

As a man, I truly fear for my physical safety being in the proximity of anyone who loved this movie. I am terrified for the development of any son in the grips of a parent who takes to heart its message.

Who exactly is the target audience for this film?
Greta Gerwig has had a hit or miss career. Her film Little Women was fairly entertaining, but I found her film Lady Bird to be completely obnoxious. Same goes for Margot Robbie. I enjoyed her in Wolf Of Wall Street and Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, but really disliked I Tonya and Birds of Prey.
Now comes Barbie, based on the long running series of dolls from Mattel. Now as a guy, I never played with Barbies prefering to play video games over dolls, however my sisters enjoyed playing them and that's the question about this film. Who is the target audience for this film? Because on one hand it looked like a film designed for sixty year old women who never got over playing with their dolls and on another hand, its advertising is aimed at little girls even though some of the material maybe offensive to a lot of families.

The plotline, which is extremely thin, involves Barbie living the perfect life in Barbieland where Barbie dolls of all types live and where all the Kens hang out at the beach, Then all of a sudden Barbie escapes to the real world where she is treated like a dog really hammering home Greta Gerwig's misandry.

I can see this film having a decent opening weekend but expect it to drop like a rock in the following weeks when people realize this film is really just a one trick pony. The pink sets look nice but the screenplay and the annoying script are definitely going to divide audiences and this film really doens't have mainstream appeal at all. Most of all Will Farrel as the CEO of Mattel is about as annoying as ever and the misanderyt stereotypes are about entertaining as watching paint dry.
A one on a scale of 1-10. Save yourself the headache and see the much better Oppenheimer instead!

"Men must watch this" of course they do. Everyone has to watch propaganda. Do anyone know how propaganda is given?? its ONLY given through visual and audial content, such as MOVIES, such as TV SHOWS, such as TELEVISION, even 10/10 chatgpt botted ratings can be propaganda. Propaganda is supposed to spark anger and hate towards something, to start a movement, and all the 10/10's review bombers sure do seem to be hateful calling everyone "racists", "women hating incels". Not agreeing with propaganda is not equal to women hate. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What can you expect from the movie called ,,Barbie''. Apperantly you should expect toxic femininity and pseudo patriarchy. In this movie Kens are treated just as an add-ons for Barbies and later they all decide to be sexists. Ultimatly the movie ends by restoring ,,feminism'' to barbieland and even tho the whole movie started because main ken was mistreated by main barbiue, all of the barbies decide to treat them slightly less. Also for 2h long movie they sure do have a lot of pointless scenes that drag for too long. And don't get me started on false advertising. Expand

I'd been looking forward to this movie for months, and I couldn't be more disappointed. I don't think I've been so miserable after a viewing...perhaps ever, honestly.

Barbie is supposed to be about empowering girls and women, and I was expecting some sort of heartwarming story about just that. But instead what we got was a confusing slog full of confusing and predictable, unintelligent soap-boxing, and very little empowerment.

By the end it seemed like every second line was related to how terrible men are, or how terrible it is to be a woman. The "climactic monologue" delivered by the human mother was beyond depressing, and it didn't help that in order to "deprogram" the Barbies, the mother would share some self-degrading "insight" about - you guessed it - the eternal and inherent suffrage and despair of womanhood. As a young woman (presumably the prime target for this movie) I felt actively disempowered by the film and its trite, not-so-feminist message. My friends and I left the theatre feeling miserable.

Speaking of, it's really disingenuous that a lot of the people defending this film are trying to suggest that the only people who didn't like it are angry men who hate womens' empowerment when the movie tried as hard as it could to degrade all of us.

If you want to watch a feel-good Barbie film about women kicking a** not at the expense of men, watch The Diamond Castle instead.

I hope Chevrolet gets their sales up too because that product placement couldn't have been more in-your-face if they'd tried. Every car was a Chevy, and all the car scenes were shot as if it was a car commercial. That alone was funnier than half the jokes.

The humour was more catered to adults as alot of the topics that the film covered were things children are unfamiliar with. Although it had a kid friendly aesthetic and marketing. Honestly they had to many ideas and it just didn’t work well together. I don’t usually use this word but the movie got so woke that i started hate watching the film.
America Ferrera and her speech about feminism had me cringing, it didn’t even feel empowering it just felt so on the nose and her speech was nothing original but rather statements on the world which have been said time and time again… I can appreciate the film for what it is though , the sets and actors can actually act and they definitely had comedic timing. Overall the execution was messy. and I can completely understand if you did enjoy this , it just did not tickle my fancy.

But don’t expect to see plus size Ken, FTM Ken, or short Ken make it past the great filter. Like online dating websites, getting cast as a man in the Barbie movie requires you to be in the top 5% of men in terms of physique just to earn an opportunity to be one of its stupid emasculated antagonists. Presumably all the other Kens have long ago committed suicide in accordance with the values and beliefs of the gynocentric matriarchy that the film depicts and celebrates. As a woman once explained to me, all men are either gym bros in muscle shirts who just want to sleep around, or otherwise they’re nothing but useless basement dwellers. As someone who lives in the desert, I know the dirt’s too thick here for basements. Barbie and Kenough visit the “real world” only to discover men are apparently in charge. An awfully subversive message to send in our contemporary society where the gap in college degrees awarded to women over men is more disparate than it has ever been even when things were previously reversed. Despite the stark realities reflected in suicides, incarceration rates, and statistics pertaining to the initiation of divorce, Barbie desperately wants you to believe we still live in the boomer fantasy world of the early 1960s. A time where men were afforded a small amount of respect on account of dying by the millions in WW2 a few decades earlier in brutal mechanized combat. Without that bloodbath, movies like Barbie wouldn't be possible. Kenough grows a set of balls and decides he is tired of being a homeless nobody treated as worthless by the society and culture he lives in. Thus, he leads a new patriarchy to take over Barbieland. While the concept of toxic masculinity is ridiculous, even I can appreciate that men can sometimes overdo it when it comes to things like violence, excessive jealousy, and narcissism. Rather than explore the downsides of a male dominated society, the film exposes us to the horrors of a world where men freely express opinions, lift weights, ride horses and drink beer. In other words, the real nightmare is that men still currently exist. Barbieland is saved, the men go back to being homeless living in a desert, and lip service is paid to the possibility of a more equitable society. The chances of the barbies fixing anything is as likely as the stakeholders in our society ever acknowledging the actual (not pretend) sexism that lies at the heart of our own society. We are what we consume and the fact that this film made ridiculous cheddar at the box office serves as an excellent representation of the state of contemporary western culture. Nothing will promote societal cohesion more than the deluge of gender studies courses disguised as children's toy movies that will inevitably follow this. If you're the type of lady who loves to bury her head in the sand, the desert in Barbieland has plenty of sand. Expand

As a long-time fan of the Barbie franchise, I'mIn conclusion, Barbie Movie is an absolute flop. With its lack of originality, weak characters, subpar animation, and unremarkable music, it fails to deliver anything of value to its audience. As a long-time fan of the Barbie franchise, I'm deeply disappointed and can't recommend this movie to anyone, even the most die-hard Barbie enthusiasts. Save your time and money, and find something more deserving of your attention.

Where do I even begin with this disaster of a movie? As an avid moviegoer, I was excited to see what Barbie Movie had to offer, hoping for a delightful and entertaining experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a painful 90 minutes of my life that I'll never get back.

The characters were shallow and one-dimensional, lacking any depth or development. Barbie herself was nothing more than a pretty face with zero personality or relatability. The sidekicks were equally uninspired, relying on outdated stereotypes and recycled jokes that fell flat every time. I couldn't muster up any sympathy or interest in their plights.

Moreover, the voice acting was lackluster, adding to the overall feeling of mediocrity. The voices didn't match the characters' personalities, making it difficult to connect with them emotionally. It felt like the actors were just phoning it in and collecting a paycheck without caring about the final product.

As for the music, it was forgettable at best and annoying at worst. The songs were generic, with lyrics that seemed like they were written in five minutes. Not a single tune stuck with me after leaving the theater, and I couldn't help but wonder why they didn't invest in better songwriting and composition.

In addition to all the above, the message conveyed throughout the film was shallow and borderline problematic. Barbie's sole focus was on her appearance and finding love, perpetuating outdated stereotypes that young audiences shouldn't be exposed to in this day and age. It's disheartening to see a character that could be a role model for young girls reduced to such superficial themes.

Greatly acclaimed woke work from a toxic and man-hating feminist Greta Gerwig with an Australian (Australia, haven't you got a better export since good old Paul Hogan!) toxic feminist hysterical Margot Robbie in the lead role and a wannabe feminist Ryan Gossling in the miserable supporting role (probably the fee was really really great, otherwise he probably wouldn't have sold it for this rubbish! Highly recommended for whiny men without a backbone with fear of women and submissiveness syndrome. Of course not forgetting the many many man-hating toxic feminists, THIS is your film! This is an inadequate movie that doesn’t belong in the Barbie universe!

I said it, I don’t like it, but I wanted to. As a collector I really thought I’d love this movie and I did at the start, the dance choreography- the music and Gloria’s speech! But the rest just isn’t it. Margot’s character of Stereotypical Barbie or the what I understand to be original Barbie is grappling with a crisis of identity that is not resolved. Barbie is under the impression that they “fixed” the real world as she believes it’s like Barbie land where all the Barbies have the high-powered jobs and run Barbie land. When she arrives in the real world she is upset that’s not how it is. Instead of equality and true feminism this movie pushes the idea that only women or men can be in charge. In Barbie Land all the Ken’s don’t have proper or high power jobs. Ryan’s Ken character is just BEACH Ken, now if we were sticking to an actual representation of Barbie Land we would also have a BEACH barbie just like we have Crystal Barbie and Ken or Great Shape Barbie and Ken or even Animal Lovin Barbie and Ken! This perception that Ken doesn’t have a REAL job is just untrue, in fact there is many Ken Careers including DOCTOR KEN!

This movie had a lot of potential but fell flat, it would have been more meaningful if Barbie realised that Barbie Land and the real world that in fact neither were perfect and that the Ken’s also had the right to have a say and have a voice equally as the women in the real world should too! The REAL Barbie stands for equality and women empowerment not to tear down the opposite sex and oppress them. This story line doesn’t even fit with the Barbie world Mattel has created as I mentioned Ken does in fact have Careers.

As for their relationship;
Ken has always been his own man and Barbie her own woman together an aspirational couple who don’t diminish the other. But the Barbie Movie is far from the Barbie and Ken we know and love.

The Ken’s in Barbie land do not feel respected and are in shock when they learn that BEACH Ken was asked for the time in the Real world, Ryan’s Ken telling them how he was respected by this action. I’m sorry but what?! Since when has Ken been treated so poorly. I’m sorry but I grew up with Ken being the perfect boyfriend/ date. Some even say they have found their Ken when finding the man of their dreams. So why has any respect for Ken gone out the window? Barbie is self-centred and rude telling Ken he can go now at the end of the night. And constantly throughout Barbie is saying she see’s Ken as a friend…. I’m sorry but no. This is a movie about tearing down Barbie and Tearing down Ken both separately and together as a couple. They both are having an identity crisis with no satisfactory outcome!

Stereotypical Barbie is basically killed off and turns human and the Ken’s are still treated like they have no worth. Barbie and Ken are broken up? Or were never a thing really to begin with in Barbies eyes. I’m sorry but this is not Barbie and Ken’s Story. Although the movie touches on Barbie having an identity crisis and self confidence as we women do. This is due to the human playing with her I feel that Barbie should have overcome this or start working through this after hearing Americas Characters speech. This movie is for the people who just want to see a Barbiecore movie that doesn’t have a real connection in the Barbie universe! Mattel should not of given this their stamp of approval it sure is not swell.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movies was a terrible disappointment. I'd group up watching Barbie movies so initially I had been looking forward to Barbie, but the film is nothing like what the posters make it out to be. In fact, I'd say that this film is "Barbie" in name only. The first part of the film in Barbieland was enjoyable, if a little predictable. The costume design was wonderful. However, everything after that was absolutely terrible. Even though this movie is listed as a comedy, it isn't funny. All of the jokes and humor fall flat. The film also suffered greatly from poor writing and an inconsistent plot that made little sense. At first the story seems to be about the owner of Stereotypical Barbie having issues that are being reflected on Stereotypical Barbie in Barbieland and looks like it's going to be a wholesome story about Barbie going to the Real World to help the owner of her doll with her problem, similar to the 2000 Disney film Life-Size. However, as soon as Barbie arrives in the Real World the plot of the film changes and seems to instead be focused on themes of politics and sexism with Barbie being openly catcalled and harassed by men at every turn. When the plot does managed to be steered back towards Barbie's original goal for going to the Real World it's very brief and gets completely derailed when she finds the girl who is supposedly her owner and the girl tears Barbie down like any stereotypical Mean Girl. The plot then goes in yet another different direction when Barbie's brought to Mattel Headquarters to find it governed by men who want to put her in a box and send her back to Barbieland. At this point it's looking like Mattel are the villains in the movie, but, wait! The plot soon changes course yet again with Ken, having accompanied Barbie to the Real World, discovering the "patriarchy" and returning to Barbieland by himself where he takes over and brainwashes all the Barbies into glorified servants for the Kens who treat them far worse than the Barbies ever treated them. Barbie finds out that it's the mother of the girl she found that's actually the one that's been playing with her doll and Barbie, the mom and the daughter and return to Barbieland where they find it completely altered and it's revealed that Ken is actually the villain of the film. The humans and the few Barbies that weren't brainwashed band together and plot to take back Barbieland, deprogramming the brainwashed Barbies by ranting about unrealistic expectations men place on women and then subsequently using the stereotypes most women rally against to seduce the Kens then make them jealous of each other. All so that the Kens will fight one another and be distracted while the Barbies seize back control of Barbieland. Afterwards the film tries to make us sympathetic for Ken despite his hostile takeover of Barbieland and the downright and disproportionately horrible way he acted.
This movie was terrible on all fronts. It's a comedy that isn't funny. The plot is mess. There's always either too much overacting or underacting. It's bogged down with an excess of political themes. And it really just isn't a Barbie movie.
