Set long after humanity has polluted this planet, groundwater is undrinkable and seeing a living plant is considered a luxury. Most people live in megacities that rely on the labor of poor masses to sustain a modern standard of living for the few at the top.

We follow the story of Josephine Lace, a young hydraulic engineer eager to climb the corporate ladder and claim a spot at the top. Until the day when that promising future is ripped away from her, leaving her half-dead and homeless, she becomes hellbent on taking down the system that ruined her and left her without a heart. Along the way she meets a diverse group of people sympathetic to her cause, every one with secrets of their own. With their help, she seeks redemption, love and most of all vengeance.

It might be on the long side but I still found myself wrapped up in the tale of Ms. Lace and her cohorts as they try to overthrow a monopolistic corporation. Well worth a look for those who enjoy visual novels with a side of not so subtle messaging behind it.

If you don’t mind a slow-burner and a lot of reading, Vengeful Heart is a good cyberpunk styled tale with social and political themes at the heart of it.

Vengeful Heart is a futuristic cyberpunk visual novel about betrayal and revenge. With a female protagonist at the helm, I expected an Otome approach, but this wasn't to be. Sadly, it evolves too quickly and this undermines the story while reducing its depth. Consequently, it doesn't reach its potential and that was disappointing.
