If Sun Wukong VS Robot was longer and structured a bit more like a traditional metroidvania where the upgrades were tied to progression, it could well be a great little game. As it is, it’s a good challenge and does manage to kill a couple hours, and so if you grew up playing old Game Boy or NES games, then Sun Wukong VS Robot might be a nice nostalgia trip.

Sun Wukong VS Robot gives us a bite-size game at a bite-size price. Nothing here will blow you away but if you are looking for a quick game and like classic platforming game mechanics, you can do much worse. If you are on the hunt for a quick 1,000 gamerscore, then look no further than Sun Wukong VS Robot.

Metroidvania Style combined with Monkey Magic!

Sun Wukong Vs Robot has a strange title but it is a nice challenging game. You play as the character Sun Wukong aka The Monkey King or what I like to call him - Monkey Magic! When I was playing it, all I could think about was the good old TV Show Monkey Magic.

The game is a old skool classic pixel game set out in a dark mechanical maze of a dungeon with no way of telling you which way to go or what to do next. Do you have a Map? yes you do, but it doesn't really tell you much apart from what section you are in and where you have been. You must run, jump and fight you way through until you find one of the four challenging Boss fights.

You will unlock new powers across your adventure which will help fight against the mechanical robots etc. Some areas are harder then others but like I said, not really knowing what way to go until you get there doesn't let you avoid this. The enemies are crazy from Robots to Bats throwing ninja stars through to the frustrating Boss fights.

Overall is a short game but offers the challenge like I have mention above. I did find it fun and slightly addictive throughout my time playing it.

Would I recommend this game? Well the answer to that is yes, as long as you enjoy these sorts of games.

    The Monkey King lives on!

I suppose in terms of visual style Sun Wukong is at least a bit different, with an old-school pixel look but with smaller characters and details on the screen than would be typical. The problem is just the pretty limited scope of what you’re able to do, which offers little in the way of anything original or exciting and that honestly there were numerous times where I struggled to be sure which flat areas were platforms I could stand on and which were just aesthetics. If its look appeals to you, there’s some game to enjoy for the budget, but it’s hardly a stand out on the system.
