Stray Gods is a revolutionary visual novel without peer, and even if you're not really into that genre, musical theater, or the Greek pantheon, I couldn't recommend it more.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is a strange visual novel that is wonderfully strange. Moreover, it has colourful characters and a phenomenal story. Alongside this, the musical element was powerful, impressive, and extremely bizarre. However, its approach is niche and this will alienate some gamers.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is as flawed as its characters, but there wasn’t a moment we weren’t revelling in its company.

Stray Gods is at times a heartwarming and expertly crafted musical experience. However, certain narrative choices, along with some minor audio and performance issues, leave the game feeling like it could have spent a little more time in the oven.

The story twists and turns, and the company Grace keeps over time is a joy to spend a few hours with, but it’s hard not to be disappointed at how much it fails to teach the old gods some new tricks.

Stray Gods is truly a mixed bag, full of strong actors, average singers, clever storytelling and weak songs. There are points of brilliance mixed with cringe-worthy presentations, making this one hard to recommend because of its inconsistencies. If you’re itching to play regardless, I’d strongly suggest those players pick it up on either PC or Switch because of the one-two punch of visual and interface issues. I can certainly vouch for the issues plaguing the Xbox version, and I’d wager the PlayStation version would be similar.

The story that is presented is perfectly fine, it offers some interesting characters, events and scenarios, but it means very little. It does not evoke any emotions, and it is not memorable in any way, which makes it quite a failure as a musical. What you come to think of instead is a game with bad music and a control system that can't do a single thing right.

I love Musicals, Visual Novels, Greek Mythology, and the people involved, yet I gotta give it to the critics. Sound mixing is shameful, andI love Musicals, Visual Novels, Greek Mythology, and the people involved, yet I gotta give it to the critics. Sound mixing is shameful, and most of the songs simply are far from memorable. I still love the game, but I can't help feeling that this one has a huge potential wasted. Expand
