Been playing it for 50 hours. It has minor design flaws (inventory management), but the mass of tasks and quests is unique.
In addition, there is a fantastic unused setting. Absolutely recommendable

I played past the 10h mark hoping it would get better but It did not, I just couldn't stand another minuted of this game. To me that has to be the definition of a 0/10 and I hope I can get a refund.

It's does not have an interesting world/characters, combat gameplay is way bellow average, spaceship combat is even worse

Starfield is the disappointment of the year. 10 hours into the game and I don't quite understand what the ship is for, apart from the fact that its combat is terrible. The shooting system sucks, and the exploration is extremely massive. Apart from Fallout 76 I don't know if Bethesda has ever made a worse game.

The result is what’s easily Bethesda’s most accomplished title. While nothing Starfield does is truly revolutionary to the genre, what it does do it does so well, and at such a jaw-dropping scale, that after we’d started playing we thought about it every morning, every night, and then it even invaded our dreams.

The result is what’s easily Bethesda’s most accomplished title. While nothing Starfield does is truly revolutionary to the genre, what it does do it does so well, and at such a jaw-dropping scale, that after we’d started playing we thought about it every morning, every night, and then it even invaded our dreams.

You begin Starfield as a miner on a remote planet working for a faceless corporation. You’re tasked with unearthing a strange artifact that’s been found on the planet. After touching the item, you experience a strange sensation, like being one with the cosmos. Following this, you’re approached by Constellation, a group that’s dedicated to exploring the wider galaxy and discovering the secrets of these artifactsfocused a lot on my social skills because, much like Fallout before it, Starfield isn’t the most adept shooter. It may look like one, with a huge range of weapons to collect and the ability to play from a first-person perspective, but this is not Destiny. Aiming feels wonky, and oftentimes, shots that seem to hit an enemy point blank will fail to register. It’d be nice if Starfield had the equivalent of the VATS system from Fallout, giving it pseudo-turn-based combat, but instead, it’s just a passable shooter attached to a very ambitious RPG. That might be the reason I spent so many skill points on my persuasion abilities.

Conversation remains a big part of the experience. You spend a lot of time talking, with an up-close view of whoever you’re conversing with. You’ll need to chat with companion characters to get closer to them (while also making sure you don’t do upsetting things, like, uh, murder people in front of them) and others to garner information or get yourself out of trouble. Considering the sheer amount of dialogue, all of which is voiced, it’s impressive just how consistently well-written and acted Starfield is. There are some awkward moments when there are more than two people in a conversation — sometimes a character might not be facing you when speaking, and the cuts between dialogue can feel unnatural — but otherwise, it’s all very convincing, which is good since you’ll be spending a lot of time doing it.

So, while the shooting While the tone and scale of Starfield differ from past Bethesda games, the core gameplay is very similar. It’s an RPG crossed with a shooter, where you can build out a character using a variety of traits and skills. Often, this can impact how you approach missions; sometimes, you can talk your way into getting what you want, and other times, you’ll need to fight. When Starfield's visuals deliver, oh boy, they really deliver. Global illumination cleverly washes the game in evocative tones that bring alien valleys to life in a way that previous iterations made in the Creation Engine simply could not. Absurd draw distances can make a straightforward mountain climb incredibly rewarding and meditative, flanked by the majestic and hopeful

As someone who has never been deeply invested in a Bethesda RPG in the past, I was slightly skeptical about whether I would enjoy Starfield upon release. I purchased my copy, and have only played about 14 hours of the game, still having not completed the main story, and I love the game.

Starfield can feel empty at times, however I found the environments enjoyable to discover. The graphics can at times be off putting, but more often than not they look stellar. Same deal with characters, some rough but most are good. The writing keeps me coming back. I love walking around and my companion suddenly asks "you got a minute," and we begin talking about things that happened in previous quests, or the characters past.

The gameplay is nothing spectacular, but is still enjoyable. Its fun to shoot and kill enemies. The AI can be a bit funky at times, and many weapons are just the same model with different stats. I found myself encumbered for a while not knowing why, but once I found out it was because I was carrying too much I was a little upset. Character customization is very in depth, letting you change things like facial structure, pronouns, walking animations, perks, and starting skills. One of my perks lets me visit my characters parents and they'll sometimes give me gifts. Finding them in the world is also enjoyable.

Ship customization is fun. Base building is ok, I haven't spent much times in that part of the game. Space combat is very clunky to me, but I can see the appeal. Everything in the game is good, but the game doesn't have land vehicles which makes exploration a very slow endeavor. I have to walk very long distances at times, so a rover would be nice. The abundance of loading screens is also an issue. At first they didn't bother me, but as I continues they seemed to go from 1 second to 3, then 5. I'm patient, but when I have to load my ship, space, traveling into another system, and the planet it can get tiresome.

Despite the flaws, Starfield has been an enjoyable time from when I started, to when I last played. I really don't understand all the hate the game gets. Its really good. I give Starfield an 8/10, but I've given it a 9 to help boost the score a little bit. This game doesn't deserve the low rating it currently has. It feels like many reviewers haven't even played the game, but hey I could be wrong, they are entitled to their own opinion. Thanks for reading my review.

    See you in the Starfield

For those who were incredibly excited by what was shown during every showcase and trailer, you’re gonna be more than satisfied. To remove any suspense, the game is perfect, but not flawless. The game is everything Bethesda fans have anticipated for 25 years, a new world, by new standards. Starfield marks the transition of the studio from a leader to a pioneer of the RPG and WRPG genres. The game starts out slow, the intro feels like it is hours while it lasts only a few minutes, upholding the tradition of iconic yet tiresome intros Bethesda gave in their previous games like Skyrim, Oblivion and Fallout. But once you get off Vectera, your journey only yet begins. The world is amazing, although very huge and lonely, it is more filled than you can imagine. The graphics though, look good, but not revolutionary. They sometimes look outdated, or if you put enough zoom and focus on them, but overall, it is by no means unacceptable. Gameplay is a big step up. The UI is confusing and not very organized, but adaptable. The animations and movements never felt more alive and human in a Bethesda game before. And the player immersion takes some time, especially for the lack of guidance (mine personally was not letting me know to scan before attending New Atlantis, where I wasted 15 mins wondering why I can’t land in the latter), but once it takes effect, it’s rewarding and brilliant. Combat is great, not revolutionary of course, but fun and engaging, whether it is firearms or just melee. Story is interesting, but I couldn’t finish it because I was already doing side quests, so that’s a great point. Soundtrack is instantly iconic, very well-made, soothing, epic. I’m not embarrassed to say that I spent 10 minutes on the menu just listening to it. Now, overall, the game is as mentioned earlier perfect but not flawless. It’s an engaging masterpiece. And at the moment, it’s my GOTY. Many people may agree or disagree, but to each its own. Starfield, from me, gets a solid 9/10. Expand

Starfield was sold by Bethesda as a synthesis of Red Dead Redemption 2 and No Man’s Sky, but delivered a Fallout in Space all instantiated, anachronistic, without freedom, with invisible walls and exaggerated steroids, style a Skyrim with hundreds of random mods. Had it been sold only as a new DLC to Fallout for $30 USD, the disappointment would have been less, as it is a good game on average down from Bethesda. Yes, the engine lacks optimization, a negative surprise for the promise offered. The worst is the poor imagination story and badly told by horrible NPCs and robotics in a 50’s Pulp science fiction environment with a thousand voids, truncated mechanics, nonsense dialogues and decontextualized menus. Anyway, it lacked an affection of Devs style Baldur’s Gate 3 to make a general and professional finish. As they said, Starfield had two previous references to overcome (RDR2 and NMS), but finished well below them, it’s just a second-class space shooter. Either way, there’s no more way for Bethesda to fix, invest more, optimize the engine, fill it with new and interesting content, improve menus and offer more creative DLCs. Time has passed, Starfield is already part of the gallery that devalues the gaming industry along with Cyberpunk 2077 and Forspoken. The scam to sell GamePass worked.” Expand

Skyrim is a top 5 GOAT and this is a step back in some ways, 12 years later. Starfield looks great, but fails in almost every other way. Whoever decided on 90% of the game being 900 barren "planets" that are actually just small regions squared off and said that was fun should be fired. Starfield makes me worry for TES6 because I've been waiting 12 years for that and if this is their best next gen effort then that's bad news.

Skyrim Vanilla, Skyrim Legendary, Skyrim in space, Skyrim underwater... I won't even mention the catastrophic optimization and the bugs that have become your studio's reputation. Modders, however, are not here to do all your work, and it's high time to release polished games instead of barely concealed open betas.

Starfield, Bethesda's highly anticipated spacefaring RPG, has finally launched, and it's safe to say that the game's storyline is its shining star. Set in a sprawling and mysterious universe, Starfield takes players on an epic journey through the cosmos, delivering an unforgettable narrative experience that's out of this world.

From the moment you step into the boots of our protagonist, you're thrust into a richly crafted universe filled with intriguing characters, ancient mysteries, and political intrigue. The storytelling in Starfield is a masterclass in world-building, with each corner of the galaxy brimming with history, lore, and a sense of wonder. Bethesda has once again demonstrated their prowess in creating immersive open worlds, and in this case, open galaxies.

The central narrative of Starfield revolves around a quest to unlock the secrets of a mythical spaceship known as the "Starlancer." As players delve deeper into the story, they'll uncover a web of conspiracies, rival factions, and unexpected alliances. The narrative keeps you engaged throughout your interstellar odyssey, with unexpected twists and morally complex decisions that truly make you feel like you're shaping the destiny of the universe.

One of the standout features of Starfield's storytelling is the diverse cast of characters you'll encounter. Each NPC has their own backstory, motivations, and unique personality, making the universe feel alive and dynamic. The dialogue system, a trademark of Bethesda RPGs, offers a myriad of choices that can significantly impact the storyline and your relationships with key characters. Building alliances or creating rivalries with different factions adds depth and replayability to the narrative.

Visually, Starfield is a breathtaking spectacle. The attention to detail in crafting alien worlds, space stations, and spacecraft is nothing short of impressive. The game seamlessly transitions between planetary exploration and deep-space travel, giving players a sense of the vastness and beauty of the universe.

While the story is undoubtedly the game's strongest aspect, it's not without a few minor hiccups. Some players may find certain side quests and activities somewhat repetitive, but these are easily forgiven given the grandeur of the main narrative.

In conclusion, Starfield's storyline is its crowning achievement, offering an engrossing and immersive space adventure filled with intrigue, discovery, and memorable characters. Bethesda has successfully ventured into the cosmos, delivering a captivating narrative that will keep players hooked for hours on end. If you're a fan of epic, open-world RPGs with a focus on storytelling, Starfield is a must-play title that promises to be a space epic for the ages.

Starfield absolutely takes my breath away at every turn, from the stunning visuals to the space exploration and the seemingly endless amounts of well thought out content in this game, I feel like I could play Starfield for many years to come and never get tired of it. Each city feels like its own game, I find myself getting sidetracked from the main story very often by random side quests that usually lead to something extremely interesting.

I recently had the privilege of diving into Bethesda’s latest masterpiece, Starfield, and I must say, it’s nothing short of breathtaking. As a lifelong fan of science fiction and open-world RPGs, I had high hopes for this game, and it exceeded every one of them.

Starfield transports you to a richly detailed and expansive universe, teeming with wonder and mystery. The attention to detail in crafting various star systems, planets, and celestial bodies is nothing short of astounding. Each location feels unique, with its own ecosystem, history, and culture. The sense of immersion is unparalleled, thanks to stunning visuals and a captivating soundtrack that perfectly complements the vastness of space.

Character customization and development are as deep as you’d expect from a Bethesda game. You’re not just a passenger in this journey; you’re the captain of your own spaceship, making critical decisions that shape the fate of the universe. The ability to traverse the cosmos, explore planets, and engage in meaningful interactions with NPCs makes every moment in Starfield feel consequential.

Quests and side activities are abundant, offering a rich tapestry of storytelling that ranges from heartwarming to heart-pounding. The writing and voice acting are top-notch, bringing the game’s diverse cast of characters to life. Whether you’re negotiating a fragile interstellar peace treaty or uncovering the secrets of an ancient alien civilization, every mission is a thrilling adventure.

Gameplay mechanics strike a harmonious balance between accessibility and depth. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or a newcomer to the genre, Starfield’s controls are intuitive, and the learning curve is gentle. Yet, beneath the surface lies a complex web of crafting, exploration, and combat systems that reward mastery.

While no game is without its quirks and minor bugs, Bethesda has a history of robust post-launch support, and I have no doubt that any issues will be swiftly addressed.

In conclusion, Starfield is a magnum opus that redefines the open-world RPG genre in the realm of space exploration. It’s an experience that invites you to lose yourself in the vastness of the cosmos, offering endless opportunities for discovery and adventure. Bethesda has once again proven their mastery of world-building and storytelling, and Starfield is a must-play for anyone with a love for science fiction and immersive gaming.

Prepare for launch, fellow gamers; Starfield is here to take you on a celestial journey you’ll never forget.

The soundtrack, views, and gameplay make this an amazing update to everything we love about Skyrim. I have been a longtime PlayStation fanboy and I bought a Series X specifically for this game, and I'm not disappointed.

Some of these negative reviews make me laugh. I see people complaining about some of the ~1000 planets being "empty". Duh, we're in space. It honestly adds a layer of immersion for me to visit a planet only to find nothing except beautiful planetary views for photo mode.

This game is not without flaws though, which is why I've rated it a 9 out of 10. The inventory system isn't great, space travel can be underwhelming, and the map system is awful. This game also has some minor bugs that are common with all Bethesda games, however most of the bugs that I've experienced (or seen posted on Reddit) are harmless and oftentimes hilarious.

I think a lot of the negative reviews are coming from people who had wildly unrealistic hopes and expectations of what this game would be. Again, this game isn't perfect, but it's provided me with >20 hours of amazing gameplay already and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface in terms of planetary exploration and completing missions.

They made the same mistakes in Skyrim and released the game half finished. Why? Because modders can do the work they left unfinished. This game is not 2023 game. This game is 2013 game.

And character designs are good though but character animations are outdated. Lifeless NPCs and its faces are horrible everything looks plastic.

You can't travel to another planet directly because when you're about to enter a planet there will bhi loading screen and cut scenes and speaking of loading screens, there are tons of loading screens, I mean every time you enter in a building or any part of the ship there will be long loading screens. You cannot travel through the entire planet there are many segments of a single planet and there are no any vehicles for traveling. It's a joke for a game in 2023 to run at 30 fps on the console. The game, overall, doesn't provide the freedom that was so highly anticipated by those who saw the trailers. It's definitely not worth paying such a high price for this game. Expand

It takes me back to the days I played Morrowind on the original Xbox for the first time. Wow! Thank you Bethesda! Expand

It's a great game but starts slow. After 8-10 hours it turns interesting, it's basically Fallout in space!

It's a big game, but starts way too slowly, and may never get interesting.

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
