Space travel is almost static, and you can't enter a planet's atmosphere or land anywhere. The planets are very similar, most of them having smooth surfaces without caves to explore or oceans and lakes. The absence of natural phenomena on the planets also discourages exploration.

It has an abundance of items with no explanation of how they can be used, giving the impression that the developers designed the game for a fanbase accustomed to Bethesda games without considering a new audience. Navigation is clunky, not intuitive, and lacks the assistance of a map.

The combat system is rudimentary and lacks variety, with insufficient ammunition or even the need for ammunition in a futuristic game being a limiting factor that prevents players from experiencing Starfield as they would like.

Poorly polished and unimpressive NPCs with limited facial expressions make dialogues and the story monotonous. Not to mention the absence of cinematics. The textures of the locations are reminiscent of consoles from two generations ago. The ending is simplistic, lazy, and frustrating.

Starfield is a game that failed to fully explore the capabilities of Microsoft's console, which is a serious issue coming from a studio owned by the same company. Since its release, owners of Series X and S are still waiting for something that feels like the new generation.

I have been looking forward to this game for years and what I have played so far has been fun. Unfortunately, I can only play for 10 to 15 minutes at a time before it crashes to my Xbox home. There are plenty of other people experiencing this same issue and preventing them from playing, but neither Xbox nor Bethesda are providing any sort of support on this.

Played an hour on GP. Its Fallout but in space. Still using the same game engine as in 2009 as I'm still getting motion sickness. No originality. Same linear scripted borefest. For space games, I just want a ship to start and let me explore the Universe. Gunplay is horrible. Even though it was free, I uninstalled it.

    - the characters seem all very dull, and the npcs are not very reactive.

I have never seen a game look so bad yet so good at the same time. Some locations like spaceships and rooms look amazing with incredible detail. Other areas look very low pixel and from prev gen. Overall it can give you a somewhat good questing experience with some of the faction quests, but the wider exploration is lacking in depth. In previous games like fallout i would explore a building and find notes and visual aids (skeletons in certain positions, broken items etc) that would tell a story about what happened in the location. In starfield i have yet to come across something similar that provides a world build experience. Bugs are still quite common even if they are not crashing the game, and AI is non existant.

    Not impressive

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the loading screen simulator I've waited for.

You don't fly your ship much. You open your menu, ooen another menu, select a location, and fast travel between planets. 6 loading screens to get from one planet's surface to another.

The game is dated, boring, and lacks a lot of the elements that make Skyrim fun to play.

Dead eyed faces on notable NPCs. Randoms look like potatoes with glued on eyes.

I am sorry I bought it. I made it worse by getting the Xbox and PC versions. I wanted other family members to play too.

To be fair it's not trash but its faults just outweigh anything good...or that could have been good.

Great game. Runs very smoothly, next to no load screen times. Graphics are outstanding and game play is very involved. I’ve seen a lot of negative comments about the game from PlayStation users who are annoyed that Microsoft purchased the company. Don’t let that scare you off trying this game. I haven’t seen anything play it that rates it less than an 8 yet.

Bad : Very bland story and characters, nothing is memorable, no map ?, lot of fast travel for some very short quest, stealth is bad, AI is bad..

Greatness : ship building is a rabbit hole, Bethesda goofy moments (fewer than precedent games), weapon design are cool, Mid : Gunfights, Space fights, some cities are cool but unoriginal (neon city), some factions are cool but unoriginal (crimson fleet), very recurrent dialogue option (I did it for money » or « as long as I get paid)…

Very bad : incoherence writing and all of the important npc are immortal

My only minor quibbles are loading screens, there are far too many, although they're mostly 2-3 seconds as I have the game on an NVME Drive. I liked exploring this game until 2 majors bugs stopped me in the main quest and 1 faction quest without any solution to pass them. I'm stuck and can't do nothing. The game should be called "How to ruin a gamer experience". Very disappointed

Starfield's launch on Xbox is a disappointing endeavor that fails to live up to its lofty promises. From the moment I started playing, it became painfully clear that the game was riddled with technical issues. Glitches, crashes, and frame rate drops were constant companions, making any attempt at immersion a frustrating exercise in patience.

The graphics, touted as a selling point, were underwhelming at best. Textures were muddy, character models lacked detail, and environments felt sterile and lifeless. The supposed vastness of space was reduced to a series of bland and repetitive backdrops, failing to capture the awe-inspiring beauty that one would expect from a game set in the cosmos.

The story, a core element of any role-playing game, was equally disappointing. The plot lacked depth and coherence, with poorly developed characters spouting generic dialogue that did little to engage me. Choices felt inconsequential, and the moral dilemmas presented were shallow and unconvincing. It was as if the developers had hastily thrown together a narrative without putting in the effort to create a truly captivating universe.

Even the gameplay mechanics left much to be desired. The controls were clunky and unresponsive, leading to frustrating combat encounters and awkward movement. The exploration aspect, which should have been a highlight given the game's setting, felt like a chore due to the lack of meaningful discoveries and the prevalence of repetitive fetch quests.

To make matters worse, the game's performance issues were compounded by a lack of optimization. Loading times were excruciatingly long, and the overall experience was marred by constant loading screens, further detracting from any sense of immersion.

In the end, Starfield on Xbox feels like a rushed and unfinished product that was pushed out the door to capitalize on the hype surrounding it. It's a prime example of a game that had potential but was ultimately squandered by a combination of technical shortcomings, lackluster design, and a general lack of polish. As a long-time fan of both RPGs and space exploration games, I can't help but feel deeply disappointed by what could have been a standout title in both genres.

Standard Bethesda fare, warts and all. While I enjoyed Skyrim when it was released my tastes have evolved and changed, but this seems to be stuck in the 360 era. Constant loading screens doesn't help out either. Hopefully this will force Bethesda to evolve.

Starfield for Xbox left me thoroughly disappointed. Despite the anticipation, the game fails to deliver on multiple fronts. The promised immersive space exploration experience is marred by numerous bugs and technical issues. From crashes to texture pop-ins, the game feels unpolished and rushed.

The story, touted as a grand interstellar epic, falls flat. It lacks depth and fails to engage players in a meaningful way. Characters are one-dimensional and their interactions feel forced. The dialogue choices, while promising, often lead to inconsequential outcomes, rendering the player's decisions insignificant.

Graphically, Starfield does not meet the expectations set by modern gaming standards. The visuals are underwhelming, with subpar textures and lack of attention to detail. Environments lack variety and fail to capture the awe-inspiring wonder of space exploration.

The gameplay mechanics also leave much to be desired. The controls are clunky and unresponsive, leading to frustrating combat encounters and navigation. The crafting and customization systems are convoluted, making it hard to engage with the game's mechanics in a meaningful way.

Furthermore, the game's open-world structure feels empty and devoid of life. While space should be teeming with opportunities for discovery and excitement, Starfield's universe feels barren and monotonous. The lack of dynamic events or emergent gameplay further exacerbates the issue, leaving players with a sense of emptiness.

In conclusion, Starfield for Xbox is a prime example of unfulfilled potential. It falls short in nearly every aspect, from technical execution to narrative depth and gameplay mechanics. For a game that promised to take players on an unforgettable journey through the stars, it ultimately delivers a forgettable and lackluster experience.

-Terrible design choices generally. Astral Lounge in the cyberpunk-themed "Neon" city is supposed to be a completely decadent sexy wild place, but the dancers are sexless middle-aged men in buffoonish bodysuits looking. I don't know if this was supposed to be a joke, or like a middle finger to ratings boards?

Starfield is possibly the most disappointing game of this generation. It doesn't know what it wants to be a space sim or an rpg, as a result what you get is a small version of superior titles. Not to mention the horrible facial animations, and empty worlds. The only redeeming factor is you can basically play it for $1 on Gamepass.

The game's technical issues are impossible to ignore, with frequent crashes and game-breaking bugs plaguing the gameplay. Even when it does run smoothly, the graphics are underwhelming, failing to capture the majesty of space exploration.

The gameplay mechanics feel clunky and unpolished, making it difficult to immerse oneself in the supposed grandeur of interstellar travel. The controls lack responsiveness, and the combat system is frustratingly simplistic, reducing encounters to repetitive button mashing.

Despite the expansive universe promised, the game's world-building falls flat. The planets lack diversity, feeling more like reskins of one another rather than distinct and captivating worlds. The NPCs offer little depth, their interactions often coming across as robotic and scripted.

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect is the narrative. The story fails to engage, lacking the intrigue and emotional investment that one would expect from a space-faring epic. Characters are forgettable, and the plot twists are predictable at best.

In an era where open-world games are pushing boundaries, Starfield feels like a relic. It's a missed opportunity to create a captivating space odyssey, instead delivering a subpar experience that fails to live up to its ambitious premise. This game is a cautionary tale of how hype can lead to crushing disappointment.

Bethesda games were great as open world games. This is in no way open anything, its just a million different rooms you cut scene/loading screen/cut scene to. Most things about this game feel like a couple generations old, AI, UI and most NPCs, also the fact that it has to do a loading screen everywhere. This game feels extremely dated.

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
