Jun 23, 2025Riding a futuristic hoverboard on a desolate and alien planet while listening to atmospheric tunes feels awesome, is a ton of fun and doesn’t get old. Otherwise Star Overdrive is a mostly fine bag of different elements. Combat and platforming are not outstanding, take a while to get used to but ultimately work just fine. The puzzles and the implementation of new abilities is fun and brings a good amount of variety. Crafting and leveling up your character does feel either overcomplicated or too barren though. Overall it is a fun experience especially if you allow yourself to be taken along with the interesting and loneliness-inducing story.

Jun 27, 2025Star Overdrive is like surfing through the forgotten corners of Hyrule with a keytar in hand – part Zelda, part Journey, part Tony Hawk, and all wrapped in a dreamy, synth-soaked world that’s equal parts thrilling and tranquil.

Jun 30, 2025Star Overdrive is a game that delivers a lovely sci-fi retro adventure, and for that, it deserves your attention.

Jun 27, 2025Star Overdrive is a big open world, with big ambitions, but lacks a little bit of synergy in my opinion. I think comparisons to the giants of this type of game are fair and some of what Star Overdrive does different, like the hoverboard, are great, but I don’t think they mesh together in one package that presents a game that I want to spend a great amount of time with.

Jul 1, 2025The problem with Star Overdrive is that it's just an average game in a market where hundreds of titles are released every day. So why give it a chance when there are other, better-made games out there? However, we must salute the achievement of the independent studio, which has managed to create a dynamic open world with a stable frame rate. So much so that we are sorry to have to give such a negative assessment of the game. Unfortunately, Star Overdrive is more frustrating than fun and fails to become the space-based Breath of the Wild it aspires to be, but who knows... maybe in three or four updates?
