Aug 7, 2024Nova Strike is a tough old-school shoot 'em-up that will make you scream. Furthermore, the rogue-lite elements add an unhappy edge to an already cruel experience. Though it wasn't for me, I know many people will enjoy the challenge.

Sep 5, 2023For Nova Strike to succeed, it needs to be a little less demanding. It needs to reward just a tad more. It needs to ease off every once in a while, letting the player feel like they are in control. Perhaps it's the random nature of how the levels and chapters have been put together, but there's little room for manoeuvre with this one.

Sep 8, 2023Roguelikes are meant to be played over and over as you slowly make overall progression each time. This works when the gameplay is addictive and you’re constantly teased with the next upgrade to feel more powerful. While great for short sessions with a run or two here and there, Nova Strike is perfectly serviceable, but with only a couple Chapters to complete, it doesn’t feel as though it will have a long shelf life in my played rotation. Not bad by any means, it simply feels like a generic shump, though the $10 USD price tag is about right for what you get content wise.

Jul 31, 2023Sanuk Games offers us here a very timid rewrite of the supercharged space skirmishes that have delighted arcade fans since the 90s by adding an oh so fashionable of today dash of Roguelite. Whether in the mechanics and the technique used, this attempt is sorely lacking in ambition. Nova Strike remains an old-fashioned shoot'em up that's far too generic in its conception, and while it's far from bad, it missed the boat to be a suitable alternative to the current offerings in this very niche videogame branch.
