MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is yet another fantastic brawler, with excellent combat complimented by the dual character switching and combos, some brilliant A/V work, and plenty of reason to play it through multiple times. Some difficulty spikes ruin the flow a little, but get some buddies in and you’re in for a real treat with MARVEL Cosmic Invasion.

In the literal sea of fantastic games that have come out in 2025, Marvel Cosmic Invasion shouldn’t be missed. Now, truthfully speaking mileage may vary on how much fun you have depending on how you feel about the brand. As a huge comic fan, I loved this game and can’t wait to play with friends when the online multiplayer goes live. But some folks may be turned off by the lack of enemy variety and the shorter length of the campaign which can be finished in about 3-5 hours; completionist will get about 20 hours to see everything. With its inclusion in Game Pass Ultimate (a shame we have to differentiate) it’s definitely worth checking out.

Fifteen stages of comic book nirvana, fifteen perfectly realised Marvel characters, and a bucketload of references for fans ensure Marvel Cosmic Invasion succeeds as another superlative retro-style scrolling beat 'em up from Tribute Games. This is about as good as it gets.

Even though it's not the best beat 'em up released in recent years, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is another hit in this era of revival of the genre that was all the rage in arcades in the 1990s. The game from Tribute Games and Dotemu shines mainly with its huge variety of characters and, above all, play styles, offering an extremely fun campaign from start to finish. Although the levels often feel repetitive and the game offers a small variety of enemies given the length of the campaign, these minor issues do not detract from the creative merits of a game that feels like a real living comic book. At a time when several classic beat 'em up franchises have returned with great games, from Streets of Rage to Ninja Turtles, Marvel Cosmic Invasion joins this new wave of great successes even though it is not the pinnacle of the genre.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion brings together several of Marvel’s most iconic heroes and delivers one of the most fun and varied beat ’em ups of the past year. It’s a highly replayable experience, offering a wide range of entertaining scenarios across its levels. Fans of the genre and Marvel comics alike will feel right at home here.

With gorgeous sprite-based visuals, modernised 90s based mechanics, and a foundation of combat able to provide hours of entertainment, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion more than earns itself a place in the fighting genre.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is somewhat of a mixed bag, but overall it’s still a great beat’em up. I enjoyed the game much more once I finished the story mode and went into the Arcade Mode. I feel this game mainly excels with its tag team gameplay and overall roster. Story mode just has a sort of dull feel to it with little challenge, but Arcade Mode makes the stage progression feel more meaningful. Cosmic Invasion is not as good as Shredder’s Revenge, but I do feel it just enough unique mechanics to stand out on its own. The hardcore Marvel fan will be pleased, but those looking for something along the lines of Shredder’s Revenge might find the game to be somewhat lacking in areas. I do feel that this would be in the upper bracket of Marvel beat’em ups, but ff this game could get some impressive DLC (more stages and characters), it could very well be a legendary Marvel beat’em up.
