Slower, more deliberate, and ultimately much more authentic, Madden 24 feels less arcade-like than it has in years — a welcome return to form for a franchise that practically invented sports simulations. There is still much work to be done, but EA Sports put its focus on the field, and fans have good reason to celebrate.

Overall, Madden NFL 24 is a solid game that delivers a realistic and immersive football experience on the Xbox Series X. The game has amazing graphics, improved gameplay mechanics, new features and modes, and a smart artificial intelligence system that makes it challenging and fun. If you are a fan of American football or looking to jump in for the first time, you should definitely check out Madden NFL 24 on Xbox Series X.

Madden NFL 24 is a step up from Madden NFL 23 in some ways, but not enough to make it feel like a huge improvement. Animations and AI have never been better, but the stale vibes past Madden games have suffered remain the same in the latest entry in this long-running franchise.

Madden 24 takes some big steps forwards in terms of the underpinning technology, and it continues to play a good game of American football. For all those steps taken technically, it feels as those the rest of the game has stayed firmly in place, and there are far too many bugs to hinder the experience at launch.

Madden NFL 24 also carries over a handful of bugs and visual glitches that were present not only last Madden, but the game that came before it. Bugs like the one where both teams appear frozen on the field during the cinematic view between plays, or where the camera isn’t showing the players despite them being at the line of scrimmage. It feels like such a slap in the face to the player and makes a strong argument that this franchise is long overdue for a reckoning. The real Madden heads out there will likely find Madden NFL 24 tolerable, but as a die-hard football fan, it sucks that we’re still doomed to this annual mediocrity.

That "make or break" statement from the developers really made it seem like we were going to see something very special, which we haven't. Some prettier animations and smarter quarterbacks don't save this from being an okay game at best.

Year in and year out, its 3 yard gain on first down then a 10 yard sack on second down and we’re caught in 3rd and long. Just when we think EA is righting the ship on Madden, we get this lazy borderline rerelease of the previous year’s iteration. It’s clear the NFL doesn’t care about the quality of their games, as long as you’re not making “after the play hits” for which the Blitz franchise was famous. No one is holding the developers and publishers accountable anymore and the only way to see change is by voting with your wallet. Don’t buy this year’s release of Madden. Even if you didn’t grab Madden 23 last season, go pick it up used and update the in-game roster. EA should be embarrassed passing along Madden NFL 24 as a brand new release for $70. Enough is enough and it’s time for a change.

After much backlash the developers promised big things for a Madden 24, almost as a cop out for how unimpressive Madden 23 was. “Make or break year” they said. After three days of Madden 24, there is some good news and bad.

THE GOOD- New player skeletons and animations make the gameplay feel fresh. New catch, tackling, defensive back and line play animations are all noticeable and a welcomed improvement. Play on the field has been improved, almost significantly and is better than it’s been in several years. -AI is much improved, especially for QB’s. Defending Russell Wilson feels like defending Russell Wilson (maybe not last years’ IRL version).

    - Some minor tweaks/improvements to Franchise mode. (More on this later).

    - Crossplay; if/when it works is a welcome addition for those that play online (I don’t, but it’s an idea that I’m sure folks who do have been wanting and I’m happy they got it).

-mini games offer a new way to improve players and adds a little more RPG element to the game. - THE BAD

    - The soundtrack, to me is the weakest one in years. Several songs are just down right bad. Where are the hits? These are B-Roll songs. Where are the “this was written for Madden” songs? - The franchise updates are a slap on the face to franchise players who have been complaining for years yet still loyally shell out $60-$100 a year for this game. The updates are minor enough to have been a patch update. Character creation and draft class player editing is now a very lengthy and BUGGY process; crippling the draft class creation element. Hopefully it will be patched as soon as possible. It’s the same faces as last year but (maybe to fix the player skin color selection bug?) it’s just a long formation that you have to scroll down through instead of starting out with the color then choosing the face in that category. You choose your face mask first but some are not compatible with the helmet that you select later. Which only makes the process take longer and feel tedious. Editing player salaries takes forever. Editing really, anything, takes forever. You can relocate right away, but it’s the exact same stadiums you have been moving to for ten years. The jerseys have been slightly updated. Some new cities have been added. Again…these are updates that were coming in patches in the previous years…

-A lot of the same stale commentary you have been listening to for years, the infamous “old coot” like is back. -Crowd noise is louder and probably more realistic but it’s hard to hear the on field action. Maybe the camera could be tied to the sound adjustment? The closer to the field the camera is the louder the player sound will be? An idea. I’ve read there will probably be a patch for the sound, a lot of complaints so far. Overall it’s a nice upgrade on the field. Some slider adjustments after play testing; and the day one and early on patches will assuredly improve a more than solid foundation there.

Promised Franchise improvements I feel just aren’t good enough. It’s nothing really new. It’s just old ideas and options in a different package that is a buggy mess as of now. Not a lot of effort or resources were put into that game mode (again), and it shows. As a mostly franchise player I’d say i’m disappointed yet again in that department.

Overall it’s a fun experience on the field. If you’re a head to head or MUT player, you will be happy with your purchase. If you’re a die hard franchise player, it’s not a whole lot different from Madden 23. Maybe wait for patches and a discount. 6.5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s better than last year but that’s not really much of a compliment. The game is super laggy and it’s a long process to just navigate menus. Still no create a team in franchise, or front loading/backloading contracts, and so much more missing in franchise. SuperStar mode is meh. The combine is actually awesome, super well done so props to EA for that. However, beyond that, there isn’t much to do. A lot of things such as “brand focus” are just text based and you can’t actually participate in them. You also can’t simulate games, you HAVE to play every single game. (excluding preseason) Gameplay is better I guess. It’s still pretty bad and easy to exploit though, even on All Madden. All in all, the game is just not good in my opinion and I really wish the NFL would get rid of the exclusive licensing they have with EA and give other companies an opportunity to compete with Madden. It's just a shame that they sell the usual Roster Update every year at full price. Fix a few things, bring a few old features back introduce new bugs and expect applaus. Rinse, wash, repeat!
They also don't care that the Frostbite engine is not capable for this game.

If you buy this EA game and even spend money on MUT jokes are on you! Everyone knows the EA MO by now.

NFL 2K5 is still the best Football sim available and we're approaching the 20th anniversary soon :-(

As soon asThey continue to disrespect John Madden, Madden wanted everyone to have equal opportunity and for it to feel like a real game. As soon as John got older and couldn't be around to over see the game they started puting paid content and stopped trying to make a good football game. Screw EA all these big gaming studios are garbage now, they have gotten greedy from all the money we've given to them in the last 30 years Expand

Once again people love the early access version and think it's good until EA patches it right back into Madden 15. At no point will you actually have control of the game. EA will again decide who wins.
They will make sure to rush you into ultimate team so you can become addicted to buying packs and hoping for a few more good players so you can finally get over that hump and dominate.
You never will. Do this... Go into MUT H2H and set it to friends only. You will see that you AND your friends all win between 45 and 63 winning percentage. By the way, you can check this on any system and any year of ultimate team. That's to encourage you to buy those packs then you wonder why all your reliable players begin to play like garbage as the new card you just upgraded to is absolutely on fire. After a month the new players become trash. Time to upgrade again. In fact you spend money and get cards, do quicksells for training which is a currency that you can't buy in cash but obviously you spent money in some way to get those training points. Also the same with certain holiday promotions. To make one player you have to buy his whole collection of cards. It all adds up but in EAs bank account. The deluxe edition gives you some junk for the ultimate team mode, each loading screen tries to beckon you to ultimate team. Be prepared for glitches, the game will be controlled by pre-programmed animations that take the control away from you so that EA can make sure that everyone has nearly the same record. AGAIN, that ensures that you "believe" that buying a few more players will have you optimistic that you will begin to dominate, but you won't. As an example, you may have Deion Sanders as your #1 cornerback then you buy Sauce Gardner. All of a sudden Deion starts to under perform, time to buy a new #1 corner. This happens all over your roster until the next Madden is released then when it is time for the new Madden to come out EA makes everything essentially free on this one. That serves to give everyone the GOD squad. Everyone has the exact same team which takes the fun out of the game and makes you want to start over on the next edition... Rinse and repeat, year after year.
