This has to be my absolute favorite Souls-like and From Software game. The game delivers on its promises of retaining that soul's formula. This will come across as frustrating for some, but that's what it's intended to be. The open-world nature of the Lands Bettwen is majestic in even the most colorless regions. One of the main reasons I found Sekiro to be boring is that all locations had the same feel. Most of the enemies were natural and earthly, looking to be rememberable. Elden RIng is everything I was hoping for in a From game. And if I could give a more accurate rating, I would give this a 9.9 because Elden RIng, in my eye, is flawless in world-building and charter design. I have one major criticism of the game, and I admit it is quite a funny criticism. In my eye, it has one of the worst opening theme songs in any of the From games. But besides that main criticism, this game is flawless and my pick for a possible match of the year. Expand

Love this game. There is a ton of build diversity and plenty of weapons or spells that you can use. You’re not limited to using the “best” weapons and builds. I liked the previous souls games and this one is the best so far. The world is fun to explore and looks great. The difficulty seems a bit more doable and bosses are varied. Definitely check this out if you like other from software games but this will probably not change you didn’t like previous instances.

The only reason I didn’t give it a 10 was because of PVP being incredibly one-sided most of the time but that doesn’t really take away from the overall experience. Expand

Yes I did beat it first using the astrologer. It was not easy by no stretch in fact my second time through the game I did the vagabond and used the glorious golden halberd which did make most bosses feel super easy but once I took one the dual wielding great swords did this game feel truly special. All of this to say that the freedom in this game is what truly sets itself apart from former games in the series and the unguided nature of the game sets it apart from other open world games minus a few that did it first. I recommend giving this game a try and once you do finally beat this massive undertaking give new game plus a try as well and don’t be afraid to hit every single spot in the game it makes it that much sweeter. That being said instead of praising the game I will point out my only real problem with the game. Simply put, the game is extremely unintuitive, this can be seen in the way lock-ons work, as well as in navigating the menus. This is nowhere more apparent than in the quest design, and I absolutely adore the open ended quest design, however there are a lot of times when you are given a quest unexpectedly, and then must remember a name or location with no way to repeat dialog. It's frustrating at times but the rest of the game completely sweeps away this frustration. TLDR: The HUD and Menus are bad, and the quest design is annoying Expand

Jeder point of interest belohnt jeden Besuch. Allg.

From recommendations and watching some streams, I figured why not give it a shot. And wow, with the HUGE open world you didn't even have to bother about the bosses till you really felt the urge for it.
With this open world concept, the entire "souls" genre changes, leaving the difficulty scaling up to the players. You can try to tackle the bosses head on, doing the old school masochist style marathon to the final boss, or you can run around and explore, expand your arsenal with weapons and spells and even level up as you please, before returning to the "now very easy" headaches known as bosses.

If you are in need of wasting a huge amount of hours, this is the game for you! Because, once you pop....

I have personally played through this game three times by now, it should be considered as addictive as crack!

At the start the tree sentinel as well as multiple hidden bosses can be averted by simply walking away from them.this paired with the collosal open world gives Elden ring a sense of freedom which is lacked in other from soft games like blood borne. Don’t get me wrong, bloodborne is a very good game, but it lacks the sense of freedom with cramped city passages as well as a lack of save points against Elden rings huge quantity of graces. By following a different golden path in Elden ring you can bypass the storm front castle and head straight to caelid. you have freedom to go where you want when but the difficulty of enemies combined with the low strength of your starting gear helps reel explorative players back on to the story path without physically putting up a wall Expand

Amazing game. However, due to how long it is, repeated boss fights are annoying. The game is long enough they could have just omitted these. (And I'd recommend just skipping them when possible)
This is the only thing stopping it from getting a 10/10 from me.
It would have been nice if it had more true challenges late game, past Radahn (pre nerf) the game definitely goes straight into easy

I originally gave this game a negative review on Steam as I found that the lack of direction really hurt the games flow. I still hold that sentiment about Elden Ring.

I don't expect the game to give me a guided tour or arrows on the hud to tell me where exactly where to go, but at times I was wandering into zones I clearly shouldn't be in, undergeared, not high enough level and still on like 4 flasks to top me up.

Recently I picked this back up and followed a guide, yes I know what a scrub, but I thought that if I can get a rough guide on what weapons are where, and how I should reasonbly progress, I will then get along with this game. Sure enough, I fell in love.

Now is this game perfect? No. Is it loyal to it's core audience? Absolutely. If Demon or Dark Souls are something you enjoyed or even love-hated for it's punish factor, you will adore this game.

The amount of times I just took a minute to appreciate the glorious views is countless, yes even dreary Caelid. Once you get into the swing of things you really can't put the game down, it envelopes you with it's "push on" layout.

So after clearly with a bit of a guide, I will replay this for sure, might make a meme build or even the Holiest build, Jesus Himself.

Tiene una cantidad abrumadora de contenido. Esta lleno de catacumbas, minas, campamentos, ciénagas... eso está bien en el primer mapa, pero cuando llegas al segundo mapa, después de 15 horas, no apetece volver a explorar el mapa en búsqueda de cuevas, y si ves un campamento lo pasas corriendo a caballo. does a good job as a exploration game, but:
    - savegame bugs took like 10h of effort, boss killing and farming and weapon and material grinding from me. how does a souls game fail at saving, the previous parts were saving at every opportunity. thats the biggest minus from me
    - the game has no clear red line, hugeass open world and no clear directions, cryptic introductions ruins the fun

    - the game has no clear red line, hugeass open world and no clear directions, cryptic introductions ruins the fun and drag the story longer the wrong way
    - progression is superslow, if you struggle with your current stats against enemies, you will struggle more in the upcoming regions. monsters get superhard, runes (exp) and smithing materials are very scarce, i wasnt able to get my weapons past +4 after 50h of gameplay. so i used the rapier +8 which you get as a gift after beating some mainstory boss.
-great runes are a great idea but a greater dissapointment. why do we have to use rune arcs to buff them up? i found in all myhours so far 4-5 rune arcs (similar to humanity and embers) in the open world and those expire once you die and you will probably die every 5 mins once.
    - effing dragons at some endgame location give 3,5k runes... and you need at lvl60 or so around 25k exp for a level up. and dragons would at that point one shot you with basic attacks. the game is super tough, i dont know why they went with that kind of progression design. this game is supposed to be a challenge, not a parkour and avoid monster simulation
    - the trap chests are a nice idea, but can lead anyone who plays without guides into desperation. i for my part hated that idea

    + great enemy variaty
    + great combat gameplay
    + great mounted combat
+ ashes of war and summon noble spirits are a awesome addition to the game
+ awesome looking bosses (which drop almost no usefull weapons or souls which can be turned into weapons)
+ fast travel is also an awesome addition to the game, from any point (except inside traps)
+ the exploration is also awesome, you can explore so many regions thanks to the jump button
+ some regions seriously looked dreamlike, which almost never was the case in any souls game . which mostly has gory stuff and locations

The game is good, but it fails with certain bosses. Either they're repetitive or unbalanced (AOE spamming fest). But for a Skyrim sized open world soulslike, it's definitely worth a try.

In terms of gameplay. Combat will be very familiar to anyone who has played the Souls games. The open world environment does little to change the overall gameplay arc and experience, and as such fans of the series will be very happy with the amount of content in the game. For me however, it was disappointing that so little has changed from previous games and it falls back on the same pattern learning and repetition as previous titles.

Not a bad game by any means, but you should ignore any 10/10 review.

Hopefully FromSoftware can fix the multiplayer issues, frame rates and I’m looking forward to ray tracing in the future.

A good game with a high difficulty, although it has the same dark souls format he open world gives it a new feel however i can't help but to think that they couldn't make enough bosses and just ended up re using a lot of their bosses sometimes up to 5 times. The dungeons are fairly boring but necessary to progress a certain npc's quest line which you will want to do considering he gives you incantations(a form of spell). Despite the few crashes i have had it still runs really good, and as for the story the game follows dark souls usual cryptic path of giving you small bits and pieces that you yourself has to piece together. Although the horse is helpful it can be annoying to use because it's not exactly smooth and I have had a bit of an issue with getting of the horse because sometimes the game does not let you and other times you get stuck mid air and die. They do re use a few enemies and concepts from previous dark souls games like the crab, it's really up to you to decide if this is a nice callback/hint to the previous games or if its lazy. The npc's with decently long quest lines are fewer then i originally expected and with bad rewards at the end of there quests however that is my personal opinion, the weapons in this game are very different and a meta has already established in both in pve and pvp. in pve you can just spam scarlet rot on almost every single boss trivializing the game or just use magic because it does way to much damage. In pvp you want to power stance with fast weapons, use a heavy shield and armor or use the blood hounds curved great sword and spam the weapon art. This was my only negative experiences with the game, if all of this sounds fine to you i would highly suggest buying it even at full price

I am looking forward to playing a real game with a real story now. But this game was pleasant enough and fascinating to play for the first 30-40 hours, then its flaws begin to become apparent.

The lack of armour, meaningful RPG elements, weapons, direction, story, and lack of polish in combat and boss battles. Not to mention getting killed through walls, glitches, poorly implemented multiplayer, and zero character development or journal to aid in your adventures. However, these flaws are greatly overlooked in favour of the beautiful world, and I suppose that is the case with most reviewers.

But, make no mistake, this is a VERY frustrating game! Which is a shame. Because it is needlessly so. As of writing, almost two weeks after its release, judging from achievements, only 15% of players have finished it yet. I won't be one of those people, I have better things to do than waste hours on boss after boss after boss. But it was a lovely world for the first 30 hours and might be worth buying just to experience it for that alone, but afterwards, prepare for an unpleasant time, quite often, interlaced with fascination at the world design.

While this is not that bad considering the character models and some environments look like early ps4 it’s disappointing. Multiplayer could be phenomenal but is bogged down by bad design choices. One example is walls that forces you to disband group at region zones and have your friends try to get to the point where you’re at alone just so you can progress after you get past the wall. Others include mounts and summons not working. These two features are so core to the single player experience that it is baffling that they couldn’t optimize their game enough to have them included. There is a lot to like about this game and contrary to popular opinion an 8 is a worth while experience so give it a try. Expand

Exlporation is amazing, in every corner you will find secrets. There are infinite type of enemys every one with different fight style. Character customization is awesome, same for skill points. The other thing that i am loving is that this game is really huge, so if you are buying It you will play at least for 100 hours to finish It totally. 99 % of the games After 20 hours are done, and after they steal money with DLC...
My only critic is the absence of a guide that help to understand some things of the game, for example i had to watch a YT video to understand how to summon spirits or how to switch Blade to 2 hand. I don't give 10/10 vote because the story in a game like is none-esistent (in my personal opinion), and even because perfection doesn't exist.

Network code: not much improvement from dark souls 3 and in general, online is a bit hard to get into. Had one item activated that should summon me into other people their world when they got invaded but never happened.

PC build/stable FPS: It is From Software their first open world and mistakes will be made. Where I didn't have too bad of a FPS drop on pc, I know others did. And I sure had some awful frame drops myself during certain fights. In the end, it will be patched out rather sooner then later so I do not feel like it is too far of a point to judge on.

Open world: Their first open world and they nailed it. The moment you step out of the introduction area, you can go wherever you wish to go in a stunning looking world. Walk around and stumble upon a cave? Well it has some neat loot in it and worth a grab. By far the best open world game for me.

Difficulty: The game can be as difficult or easy as you make it. The first boss people seem to be having issues with is Margrit, who is indeed difficult. But it teaches you to do something else. Go out and explore, level up, get stronger weapons and then return to properly fight him.

Everything together, it is a solid 8 out of 10 for me. Not everything is perfect, but which game is? A true love letter to the fans of the dark souls series.

The Critics reviews for this game, are insane. Have they lost their **** minds? This game is the definition of quantity over quality.

Why is this game immune to basic critiques other games get ROASTED for? Its open world...is bad. Pure and simple. It's big? it's open? But it's 2022 and EVERY open world has to be more than just open and big. The level design is crude and linear. Choice in design amounts to "path with traps" or "path with no traps". To much of dungeons is walking on basic rooftops with no level design whatsoever on them. It's lazy. They should have cut the game in half and focused. Dungeons and villages are copy-paste, traps are crude, there is just too much yet so little outside of the combat.

Which would be fine, if the game weren't acting like it was anything more than just combat.

I honestly do really enjoy this game's gameplay, but for 2022...it's pretty subpar as far as diversity of offerings and complexity of systems. I've gotten about 1/2 the way through (I've done most everything up to entering the Capital and I'm level 90ish) and I'm pretty much burned out. The story, frankly, is just lore...that's it. You've got 1 real story going on and the rest is just set dressing to explain gameplay choices that were already present in Dark Souls...aka, it's not story. There is nothing compelling here. It's just beautiful metaphorical imagery that amounts to pretty much nothing narratively other than a loose allegory for life that's so vague and lacking in substance that it's just boring. They stole the death rune? Neat...what does that mean? That we can revive...that's it. The entire plot is just telling you why you are playing a dark souls game.

At what point does "mysterious" end up just being "vague and empty"...because my experience has been thinking something was coming, and being disappointed OVER and OVER.

I don't want quest logs or map icons telling me where to go, but this game won't even give you enough story context to tell you the next step in a quest. They just give you a dagger and say "give it to the person who owns it"...like what the actual ???? It's like they forgot to finish the game. I have spent a vast swathe of time playing this game, doing nothing but looking up the next step because the game gave me NOTHING and I'm not gonna waste my time searching for a needle in a haystack.

I LOVE solving puzzles, I love piecing together information, I love open story design...my favorite game of all time is Outer Wilds. This game, just frankly sucks outside of the combat (which is still dated)...deeply. The horse controls are pretty mediocre and lack in clarity, bosses are all dodge spam and lack interesting mechanics (I can name like 3 bosses that actually felt neat but 1 of them was so bad at the same time I don't even want to mention him).

I am TOTALLY FINE with how hard this game is...if anything it's the easiest dark souls ever. It's just only a dark souls game.

I do think, for a Souls gamer...this game is gunna be a 10/10...don't hesitate. Buy it.

But for me, a person who has played this kind of game before...I'm just not interested in more of the same.

Being conservative, not pushing your game franchise to be more, that's not something that should be rewarded with the amount of praise this game is getting...there is SO MUCH this game franchise could do to bring out greater gameplay complexity while maintaining its unique stamp. Being open world isn't revolutionary. Not having basic UI elements isn't revolutionary. Telling a vague story badly isn't compelling. These are problems.

This game is deeply overhyped...period. But so are many games, such as BOTW...which was also great in many categories while mediocre in others. However, BOTW was actually innovative. It took risks. This game is a singleplayer MMO from 2004 with better combat. Thats how crude it feels to engage with the world and story and level design. That has to count for SOMETHING in the score.

So I'm sorry but I have to dock this game...it's not perfect, it lacks so much. In a RPG game market that is deeply more complex than this title I don't really see what it is doing so right that it warrants a 10/10...it's just doing so little and pumping out a lot...so that's all games have to be now? That's just what AC is doing and everyone docks AC?...and I like this more than AC...but how is this game dodging the basic criticism the industry applies to every other similar title?

Sifu and Hades has done more to move the Dark Souls formula forward than FromSoft has...it's bad. This isn't the next BOTW, this is just another Dark Souls title. Don't be deluded by the hype

The graphics may be somewhat dated, but it doesn't take away from how much I enjoyed the game. The only issue I've come across was when I was trying to load into a friend's world to help them with a boss, but when I loaded I received the "enemy felled" message and was sent back to my world. The issue was quickly resolved though, but was still annoying at the time. The story is vague, like many other FromSoft games, but there is just so much more in just item descriptions alone that interested me. I haven't beaten every boss yet, but I have dumped 60 hours into the game and overcome some of the more challenging enemies in the game. The fights are tough, but always fair. I haven't encountered a boss that was that I genuinely didn't enjoy fighting. My only issue are the sidequests. Sometimes they're hard to keep track of and some of the npcs would move to a location that just seemed random until the added context later in the quest, . Eventually it made sense, but it didn't make it any less tedious trying to find where they were in the massive world. I know FromSoft likes to be minimalistic with stuff like that, but some kind of log to just keep track of what quest I had started would have been appreciated. Overall, the game isn't the most graphically advanced and definitely has some issues, but I've been enjoying the game so much despite the few issues I did run into. The world is aesthetically beautiful and there are endless possibilities with exploration still left. I can't wait to fill out the rest of my map and maybe find some secret areas and fell more enemies. Expand

I'll give it a ten once the game is well optimized, because I prefer smooth 60 fps gameplay without ray tracing and no 4K to 30 fps and 4K gameplay. The performance mode needs to be reviewed, you can do without a drop in resolution or detail to have a game at 60 fps anyway, make an effort for the performance mode.

Repetitive, the most efficient way to play is to find the weapon with the most damage and do a jumping attack, pvp is lousy unless you like to be ganked by 2-3 people and if by some miracle you win the rewards are not worth it, in late game bosses are very unfair, decent game but Sekiro has better combat, Bloodborne better story.

The first experience is incredibly memorable and the main bosses are amazing, the lore is nothing to talk about, although I think it's very similar to Dark Souls and lacks a bit of originality. The problem is that there comes a point, more precisely in the second half of the game, that it gets very repetitive, the optional bosses are very forgettable, the boss repetition is ridiculously annoying and the game balance is so unstable to the point that you are OP without nor make effort, spoiling the Experience. The soundtrack is far inferior to past games, especially if we compare it to Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne, you can count on your fingers which ones are really memorable and incredible. The exploration of the world itself is phenomenal and intuitive, it's really a revolution of the open world system, but unfortunately that's only true for the first time playing, making the game have very little replay factor, as you've already seen all the new exploration. In short, the game is amazing and extremely fun and addictive, it has a lot of successes but it also has a lot of flaws. For FromSoftware's first open world game, I'd say they are to be congratulated, they improved a lot from the other games, but honestly it could have been better. If they had more creativity and time, the game would be immensely more memorable and most of the game's serious flaws would be minimized. Overall, it's an unforgettable game on your first playthrough and it's really worth it, it's not quite a masterpiece as many have said, for me it's basically an open world Dark Souls 4, but it's worth the investment, especially nowadays where the market of Videogames only cares about money and quantity, while FromSoftware cares more about the artistic factor and quality in their games. I think dark souls 2 only had 40 or so? I wish I could appreciate this game more and I respect the effort put into it. But somehow. Its too much for me personally. Which is weird. Maybe they should change the multiplayer mechanics so that you can interact with players in real time with no summon signs. Instead of summons it could end up being alot more organic. I'm sure covenants could still be implemented in some form or fashion. I just think if you're going to have such a large open world. You may as well make it more social. It would feel alot less empty I suppose as a result. Expand

I just played Sekiro, and damn, that game is incredible. It's challenging, with a great story, and visceral combat. Which is everything this game isn't, so going from that to this was just jarring.

Combat in this game consists of rolling around like runaway tire while bosses spam attacks, and then occasionally getting a smack or two in. The fact that defense still consists of the same crap dark souls had 10 years ago is lame. All an agility character can do is roll around like a moron. Why didn't they at least try and put sekiro's parry in? Why isn't there a smaller step dodge that's actually useful? All you can do is roll 5 times in a row, then get one hit in.

The story is, well, vague. Meh. That's all I have to say. Coming from Sekiro's story to this was disappointing.

In past souls type games by Fromsoft, you'd adventure a while, and encounter a boss, and get stuck on it a long time then finally have that "hell yeah" moment when you beat it. Just coming from Sekiro, each boss was exhilarating. Overcoming boss enemies in this game sucks ass. Why? The density. Everywhere you throw a stone there's a goddamn boss. It's so tedious. There's no pacing, it's all just boss enemies everywhere all over the world that you'll die to 5+ times, and then actual turbo bosses that you'll die on 30+ times in the dungeon areas.

There's another issue with combat. In the open world, fighting on the horse is optimal nearly all the time. Like 99% of the time. In a game where death is so punishing, it would be stupid to not do the most optimal thing. It's also optimal to just run past and completely ignore the existence of a lot of enemies. The reward for killing them just isn't worth the time. Who the hell designs a game where you're just supposed to bypass things people put weeks of work into designing?

The open world is good I guess, if a bit monochromatic, with a few exception areas that are incredible to behold. Some areas are really fun to explore. Some are awful and incredibly aggravating. Fast travel is a thing. A big thing. There are bonfires every 10 feet. And you'll be fast traveling between them all the time because of the tedium factor involved. I really dislike fast travel like this but whatever.

Overall I'd just call this game amazing, annoying, tedious, and fun, all at the same time. It's definitely not a 10/10. It's dark souls with a bigger (and less good, in my opinion) world. It'll give you a good 150, 200 hours of playtime. I really wish they at least tried to innovate on the crappy and dated dark souls combat, instead of making us roll more than a stoner in a joint factory.

Those From Software “lifehacks” gone too far – now You’re not even forced to talk to NPC, to get a map icon info who he is…for example it completely ruined first encounter with Blaidd.
Game is vast and You’re hyped at the beginning – first area (Limgrave) has the best environmental structure (dragon, dungeons, mini-boss, big cart, camp).
Landscape is immersive and for the moment I was feeling epic adventure vibe.
Sadly, this bait for beta access reviewers is going down very fast – too big and empty, stretched without common sense, not rewarding for your time invested…
Dragons are too easy, quests are too complicated for open world, crafting unnecessary (you can’t craft weapons nor armors), legendary weapons are easier to upgrade than normal, dungeons too small, framerate at 35-50 fps, pop-in everywhere, unbalanced weapons (colossal zweihander damage and stagger equal to claymore…), etc…
    After 150 hours I’m bored. It’s a promise unfullfiled.
Elden Ring is very overrated and not a masterpiece.
From Software – You can’t put souls series into mainstream.
You sell 12M copies but people are angry and this 7,5 Metacritic rating is VERY accurate.

But the the major bosses are just very, very unfair. I'm a FromSoft veteran who's completed the King's Field and Dark Souls series, Bloodborne and Sekiro multiple times. This game isn't difficult like Sekiro or Bloodborne difficult. Those bosses were challenging, but very do-able. The problem I have, is that the majority of bosses in Elden Ring just spam attacks absolutely non-stop with infinite FP and stamina, leaving an absolute minuscule window to get hits in. Soloing this game is nigh-on impossible, especially late game when the difficulty is rammed even higher and suddenly.

These games, which heavily punish the player for mindless aggression, Miyazaki is quite happy to not apply that rule to his AI. And it proves how BS a boss is when noone even drops down co-op summon signs, because they don't want to go through that certain boss again.

I'm not saying it needs to be made easier, just a little evenly balanced. But then maybe try and embrace a wider audience by adding a slightly easier mode? All you need to do really is keep runes on death, that's it. But that's just me.

Rated it a 7 out of 10, because outside of the major bosses, this is a fun game, which I enjoyed with great exploration and design.

This game is NOT accessible to everyone despite what the paid reviewers have said. I should have known as most content creators are just looking to get paid, not actually be helpful in any way.

I had some experience with From games going in. I did almost beat the base game Dark Souls 3. I did play a bit of Bloodborne. So it’s not like I came in blind or unsuspecting. But watching footage and listening to “reviewers” say this game is accessible gave me hope that maybe this would be a more fun version of the previous titles I played through. Nope. This is just as painful as any other souls game. And what’s worse is I convinced a friend to pick it up thinking that and he had zero experience with these kind of games and basically ally wasted $60.

I’ve put around 30 hours into the game. I’ve over-leveled myself because I just wanted to experience the game and the world in a more casual fashion. I don’t care to be a pro at this game. The open world is fantastic. It’s one of the best open world maps I’ve ever seen. Extremely dense. No place is the same. Packed with stuff to actually find and see. It’s filled with caves and dungeons and open world bosses everywhere. I can’t even count the amount of enemy types. So the world, the combat, the exploration, are all top notch as usual.

But it’s brutal out there. I often find myself dying still in a few shoots to almost anything. Arrows and rocks are buried from across the map from enemies that will destroy you. Trying to get out of combat just to use your map again is tedious. I guess I expected the open world part to be more casual and to have a decent way for leveling but this is not the case. Glitch farming methods are the only real way you can even level in this game and it’s no wonder everyone cheeses them.

Questing is absurd. I understand and accept that this is how From does it. I’m not here to try and change it. But doing quests is insanely confusing, and I just end up watching guides because I don’t want to spend hundreds of hours and multiple play throughs to do them. Many quests can be missed.

Bosses themselves haven’t been too bad depending on play style. But again, I over-leveled with a broken farming method and play a Mage so I’ve got range and a general OPness to me. But even at that you still die in a couple shots if not careful. So anyone who thinks they can over-level to the point of 1 shoting bosses or tanking all their attacks will be let down. I hate when gaming companies do this — lure you into a false sense of being powerful. I think that happens here. Even though you can get more powerful in ER than any other game they’ve made, you won’t really feel it and still die a ton.

I think a 7 is very appropriate for this title. There’s still plenty more to say, both good and bad, but I digress. It’s a good game. It’s not game if the year. It’s not game if the decade. It’s just a really solid game from a really solid developer. It’s just a game that’s not meant for everyone, despite how much I hate that statement and think it’s a terrible one. If your not a Souls player and lover, this game is not a entry to it.

I like some bit of structure, it doesn't need to be Bethesda level of hand holding though. It also had a fun aspect to it when you're not repeating the same attempt for the 12th time. I played some of the other dark souls and blood borne games when I was younger, but didn't play them very long due to the difficulty. Now that I'm in my 30s I don't mind sticking to it longer but without that historical Souls franchise experience, it is very difficult and very frustrating. I've been playing since launch and still haven't beat the first boss. Watch video, gotten advise and still can't get it done. I would have liked to try it coop but ya know it didn't work for days and I still haven't gotten to try it. From what I've seen, it's really not that dynamic of a coop anyway so I'm weary. Overall the game is fun ut is very frustrating not just for difficulty but the broken online mode, meh graphical details, lack of basic features, and crazy clunky fighting mechanics. Elden Ring rewards your curiosity in many ways, be it items, runes or a pathway to another area, but mostly it’s a story to tell your friends when you are sharing tales around the bonfire. It does not force feed tutorials down your throat, but instead it leans far the opposite way by not telling you much at all and lets you explore and find things out on your own. There is no true quest log, no points of interest on a map or no arrows pointing you in the right direction, so there is a good chance you’ll miss some of the best caves and areas of the game. Because of all of this, Elden Ring is forcing me to find all of that out on my own and it is one of the most rewarding games I have ever played. I will continue to explore the Land Between for many hours to come. I’m just not in a hurry.

Elden Ring manages to draw the player into a fascinating world for many hours, with refined gameplay that fits perfectly with the freedom granted to the player. A sumptuous but imperfect work, which fails to completely overcome some of the historical flaws of Hidetaka Miyazaki's productions. Flaws that, however, can't diminish the scope of a masterpiece destined to leave an indelible mark on the videogame world and to set new standards for the souls-like and open-world genres.
