EA Sports PGA Tour is a good comeback for virtual golf, but it's a live service game that still feels unfinished and occasionally clunky. It lacks the LPGA Tour and has a slow, glitchy interface with unintuitive elements. There are no tutorials or explanations for those unfamiliar with golf, but it's enjoyable for those who know the sport and will offer more over time.

Excellent visual presentation and some solid gameplay fundamentals for the future, but with some puzzling omissions.

As a comeback, EA Sports PGA Tour performs well enough to compete with PGA 2K23 on fairly even footing. The inclusion of all four majors, the solid ball physics, the wider arsenal of shots, and the long list of official courses are impressive, though the presentation can be flat, laggy, and rough. If EA decides to turn this into an annualized sports franchise, the next installment will need to revamp the character creator and rework the user interfaces. Despite the game's flaws, though, I can still see myself casually playing it throughout the year alongside other sports games like MLB The Show 23. It’s been a while since we’ve seen two established developers battle each other within the same sport, and I’m all for it. At the very least, golf games will be made all the better from the competition.

It might not be for everyone, and it can feel like a bit of a slog at times, but among the excellent selection of courses, deep career mode and accessible gameplay, EA Sports PGA Tour should satiate the appetite for those wanting an enjoyable golf game.

Videogame golf is in an interesting position. After years of not seeing any new entries, users are suddenly presented with two big-budget PGA titles fighting for their time. EA Sports PGA Tour certainly delivers a thorough, authentic golf simulation, but it’s also a divisive one. On one hand, the visuals of golf have never been displayed with more realism. On the other, the unresponsive mechanics completely removed me from the experience, ultimately driving me back to the simpler, more-playable 2K PGA Tour 2K23.

EA Sports PGA Tour lays the foundation for what could be a really strong golf game, with a lot of content, deep mechanics, and excellent presentation. Its UI issues, though, are a significant problem that shouldn’t have made it into the final release, and its swing mechanics, while easy to pick up, never feel particularly comfortable. In future years there’s definitely potential to win the tour, but for the moment, I still think the competition offers a more compelling experience.

Where is the Alternating online play? I don't want to see a ball line I want to see the full players' swing et al. Also this game is really hard to get used to again. After playing Golf Club offerings, it really ruined my skills for EA Golf. Also there is not an option to start a different Career. It's beautiful, fun, and has lots of great elements from the old EA golf games. The course selection is great as well.

It's not currently stable though. This may be corrected with the day one patch, however, I can't even get through 3 holes without the game crashing. It's literally crashed 6 times in one round so far and I'm still on hole 15. Luckily it saves your hole by hole progress I guess.... The always online requirement is atrocious as well.

    There are 2 big issues:
    Firstly:
The biggest issue I have with this game is analog stick swinging. When you first try it it's like you have a second of input lag. However that is not the case, the swinging mechanic is just bad. There are two main problems. Firstly your backswing decides power, but you dont stop backswinging when you pull the stick forward. You stop backswinging when you have finished your forward flick of the stick (which is supposed to be the forward swing). The second problem is the fact that you have to put the stick back to center. The forward swing isnt just the forward flick of the stick, but also the stick back to center. This ruins the timing for me. As a beginner you hold it at the top thinking your swing is done, but you end up getting a slow swing.

Now aside from this, swinging is too forgiving. Even when you **** up, the ball still goes where you want it. I think the swinging mechanic needs a bit of an overhaul as this just isnt something you can get used to or have fun with imo.

    Second:
Input lag! There is still up towards half a second worth of input lag in this game, tested through 3-click. It's absolutely stupid that this game stumbles on the main mechanic of the game. This may only be an xbox issue, so steer away from the xbox version if thats the case.

These two issues make the game pretty bad. It's honestly disheartening because other than that it's pretty good. A lot of courses and a great presentation.

Graphics are okay, theyre blurry and grainy, and foliage looks like it's completely still most of the time.
