Dec 18, 2023I know I should be angry at Disney Dreamlight Valley. The decision to move from a paid experience to an even more paid experience is Ursula-like in its sheer evilness (worse, as Ursula sticks to her promises). I should be angry, but I’m only a few-thousand dreamlight away from affording a new area, and Rapunzel is soooo close to becoming a level 10 friend. There’s too much to be done. There’s no time to be angry.

Jun 3, 2024Hanging out with a growing roster of Disney icons is a remarkably good time, and some of the recent additions, like Gaston, made my return to the valley an even more worthwhile venture. But a lot of the shortcomings from the Early Access days haven’t necessarily improved much either, including its habit of leaving stories on a cliffhanger ending, a monstrous grind that just don’t quit, and bugs that continue to plague an otherwise good time. Still, there’s something undeniably riveting about chilling with the goofy oddballs and loveable toons from Disney’s impressive catalog, and returning to this zen-like simulator washed my troubles away like few cozy games can.

Oct 13, 2022Even in its early access state, Disney Dreamlight Valley nails the cosy game formula. It’s such a treat to play, and offers a refreshing, peaceful refuge. It recaptures some of that elusive magic and wonder I felt from the Disney franchise as a kid, and it has brightened my world at a time when I needed it most. I can see it being my companion for a long time to come. [Early Access Score = 100]

The adventure is very enjoyable to play, and the never-complex mechanics may bring the game closer to a younger audience. With the addition of new content and the correction of some flaws, it could become a real time-absorber for Disney and Pixar fans. [Early Access Score = 80]

Feb 21, 2023Disney Dreamlight Valley is a wonderful family focused experience. With colourful Disney and Pixar characters, and safe and fun gameplay, you can laugh, smile, and relax as you save Dreamlight Valley. Mostly, this is an excellent title. However, the resource gathering is a grind and there are some bugs. Yet, these are minor when you consider the overall presentation and the incredible gameplay. [Early Access Provisional Score = 80]

Oct 15, 2022As for me, I can’t say I was hooked. Dreamlight Valley is a world of cardboard, its inhabitants little more than set decoration and animated sources of material gain. It’s a game about menial labor for menial labor’s sake, the most monotonous elements of a life sim emphasized and weakly justified by the shallow inclusion of marketable Disney characters. It masquerades as a game about friendship while portraying personal relationships as little more than means to an end. Worse than all of that, though, it’s simply boring. Dreadfully, interminably, boring. [Early Access Score = 30]

Oct 9, 2022Dreamlight Valley is 'Disney meets Animal Crossing', but there's more to it than that. With a healthy supply of quests on top of the usual foraging, crafting and house-building, there's a proper story here too for any players who want a goal to aim towards. [Early Access Score = 80]
