    This remaster of the 1990 PC Engine classic delivers a healthy dose of nostalgia for fans of Ryo Saeba yet fails to modernize its rigid mechanics. While the addition of multi-language support and other extras is welcome, the repetitive combat and dated level design make it a tough recommendation for those without an existing emotional connection to the franchise.

    City Hunter returns to current-generation consoles in a remaster that doesn't just do its homework, but delivers a complete version of a very niche title aimed at the game's most die-hard fans. It's a faithful port of the original PC Engine version (also localized in Italian) with numerous bug fixes and gameplay tweaks to bring it more in line with modern times. However, there are limitations stemming from its age, some "gameplay niggles" that make this formula too repetitive and (perhaps) lacking appeal, not to mention a meager running time that doesn't fully justify its asking price. Nevertheless, City Hunter fans will be happy to embark on this new mission and, more precisely, (re)discover a forgotten title brought to life in a new light for all lovers of the game and video games in general.

    City Hunter is a hard game to recommend unless you specifically fit into that crossover I mentioned earlier. You need to be a massive fan of the franchise and have some sort of nostalgia for this particularly mediocre side-scrolling action title. Otherwise, it just falls flat. I wanted to love it, TurboGrafx 16 games are normally hidden gems, but this one just exists. I am glad it is available, but there is just not enough here to make it a forgotten classic.
