Inspired by classic sci-fi movies, Beyond Galaxyland is an intergalactic, 2.5D adventure-RPG set among the stars. Step into the sneakers of high-schooler Doug, as he’s whisked away to ‘Galaxyland’ - a zoo-like solar system of planets - on an epic quest to save Earth itself.

An all-new take on the beloved RPG adventures of old, prepare for a journey like no other, skyrocketing through teeming jungles, neon-lit cities, and cybernetic casinos, with each new planet brimming with intriguing characters, fiendish adversaries, and many other surprises.

Looks aside though and Beyond Galaxyland is a triumph. It is a perfectly paced game with plenty to see and do, none of which feels bloated or elongated. The story itself isn’t breaking any new ground, but the way it is told, with a major shift halfway through, feels really fresh. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but isn’t afraid to be serious when it needs to be and so if you are a fan of ‘90s turn-based RPGs, Beyond Good & Evil’s photography mode or just a fan of games in general, there is a lot of fun to be had with Beyond Galaxyland.

Despite a few minor bugs that can be patched, Beyond Galaxyland is a testament to what indie developers can achieve with passion and creativity. With a wonderful combination of beautiful graphics, a fantastic narrative and engaging gameplay makes Beyond Galaxyland feel like a must play for fans of scifi epics and RPGs. It’s a journey that will stay with players after finishing, and it’s yet another shining example of the strength of the indie games.

Beyond Galaxyland is a real love letter to 20th-century science fiction. The adventure is full of surprises, both in terms of the plot and the different activities that can be played on each planet. As for the battles, they remain fairly classic, apart from those against the bosses, which are far more inventive. In the end, there is almost no weariness as you explore this fun, pixelated universe! As the end credits roll, we can already imagine where our next unexpected journey will take us... and whether there will still be a guinea pig!
