This was not what I was expecting, lifeless worlds, with good graphics. Few enemy's and challenging levels. Fromsoftware you don't need to make every game a souls like game.

This is a Mech Arena combat game from the days of PS1 and Sega Saturn. Spin in a circle around the arena while the boss spins in a circle, and use the gun that will let you hit their weak point. Rinse and repeat. At least Elden Ring had an open world you could walk around in and explore. This does not have that.

Also, it really bothers me that there is zero gravity in this game. I'm a big hulking mech. They're big hulking mechs. Why do we all just slide around like we're on ice skates? Even things with massive tank treads just glide over the ground and turn on a dime. This just feels silly.

As a long time fan of the Armored Core series, I feel extremely disappointed with this game. It's not because it's bad, but because From Software basically decided to go with the Soulslike difficulty. I know people will be saying that's what they're known for. But way before Demon Souls, was Armored Core (From Software). Instead of having two game lines now, one for the Souls fans and one for the others the difficulty made this game unplayable for a casual gamer. The tutorial boss alone is on par with mid to end bosses from previous Core games. If you have hours to invest and "get gud" this is the game for you, if not don't bother. Pros. Great graphics, same controls as older titles, and the arcade mech building action that made the series good originally.

Cons. The difficulty, no way to lower this at all.

Ac6 was a fun distraction from my everyday life. While I certainly enjoyed the usual series traits (win big paydays, go shopping for stronger mech parts, rinse and repeat), I always found the unlikely bosses from previous games a tedious byproduct.

Sadly from software decided to double down on the bosses and across the 69 mission campaign I must've faced what felt like 20 hulking, unreasonably powerful entities. Most were OK but a couple were quite troubling. Strafing round in circles like a mad person for several hours to get the job done. (Perhaps in future from software could could add some sort of 'boss battle arena mode' to satiate the hunger of some of the fans of difficult long bosses I can see in the reviews here?)

The story was ok but without any motion capture humans to follow along with, the levels felt empty. Lonely. There was an opportunity here to display something more technically ambitious but instead the path to retread the same sort of game was taken instead. It felt just like the older titles before it.

Performance isn't a great reflection of the kind of visuals shown here but thankfully the VRR setting on my TV was able to offer a good experience in 4k quality mode so things looked sharp and felt responsive to control.

Overall I came away feeling a little cheated. This doesnt really carry the finesse of a £60 game but certainly came at the price of one. The gameplay felt straight out of the ps3 era and it rarely ever really felt 'next gen' in any noticeable way on my series x. If you can get this at a discount and enjoy mech anine then this is worth checking out

Personally, I wouldn't say I liked Armored Core 6 since I was still high on the Elden Ring rush. As a rare mech game, it does a really good job at making you feel like you’re riding a powerful mech but it has little substance. Armoured Core 6 feels like a boss rush game with detail in mech customization, but the story lacks depth and engagement. Environments, granted very beautiful at times, are vast and vertical but feel like shallow backdrops or cardboard arenas you’d see in Power Rangers mech fights. AC6 will please many AC fans, but I don’t think it’s as strong as the other From Software titles.

A great mech combat game that boasts a surprisingly moody atmosphere while offering one of the most rewarding customisation components in all of gaming. So, definitely play it if you love tough combat and plenty of explosions.
