When playing Anodyne 2: Return to Dust you can tell the developers love making video games and want to share that love with anyone interested. Thanks to an ever-expanding world and the introduction of new mechanics and ideas as the game progresses the game certainly stands out from the pack. There are some slow-paced parts and a few of the later puzzles and card locations might require a guide, but overall Anodyne 2 should be played by anyone who is interested in indie game design or anyone that wants to enjoy a multi-genre nostalgia-fueled adventure with an endearingly entertaining story about self-discovery.

With the gameplay being pretty weak, the only worthwhile part of Anodyne 2 on Xbox is its presentation. Truly, it should be applauded for this alone. Even the music succeeds in pulling the player back to that early, three-dimensional time period. However, a nice bit of music and some neat aesthetics do not make for a complete or fun experience.

    Very Dusty Game!

Anodyne 2 is a great mix of retro 2D 16bit style and 32bit 3D style games. When I first started playing it, it took me back to the good old Playstation 1 days. You play as Nova who happens to be a Nano Cleaner who's job is to clean the Dust that has infected the islanders or New Theland.

When you encounter a islander who is in need of a good dust clean, you will play a little mini game in a quick time event which will involve pressing up, down, left and right in a random order before you transform into the 2D 16bit world. It is here where you will battle the dusts monsters and free the islander of the dust.

The game is very enjoyable and has something for everyone, from transforming into a car to get around the area a lot quicker than running. You can also explorer the city by talking to the New Theland townsfolk to find out what to do next.

You can even set up in the main menu how you would like to play the game. Setting invisibility so you don't die comes in handy if your not in the mood for a battle but just want to get the story of the game and so on.

Overall, Anodyne 2 Return To Dust is a fantastic game that brings two gaming generations together with a decent story line.

If you like to clean, then pick this one up and start sticking up all that DUST!
