Another example of a game released way before it was ready. I don't know if they had development issues or just needed more time. The game has been in development for over 5 years I believe. You get a quest, sail to the island you need to, get chest/kill skeleton, go turn in quest. That's the entire game. Then you can level up and get cosmetics. That is it. This game had unlimited potential and they fulfilled none of it. On top of all of that the game also has troubling bugs and other problems. Latency problems, visual bugs and frame skips are all prevalent. So while there is PVP it gets very frustrating when there is massive lag spikes and frame skips. On top of that, it has an amateur multiplayer interface at best. You have no control over your party. Usually you just have to quit out of your game entirely if you want a friend to join you. And the cross-platform party system through the xbox app on PC has never actually worked without any problems whenever me and my friends have tried. It generally has taken us 20-30 minutes before we can even get into a game together due to the party problems. Also playing solo or even just duos is the hard mode of the game. The minor fun that is to be had from this game seemed to drain away while trying to use match making or sailing in a sloop. This is not a $60 game. It feels like a $20-$30 early access game. I know you can get it through xbox game pass but many people purchased it outright. And if you were wondering you can get a refund from microsoft. Just contact them. You don't have to have a valid reason. They will refund you. So, while this game may come to fruition in a year or so, as it stands now it is an extremely poor game. Expand

Unfortunately this is a 15 dollar game in a 60 dollar package. The potential was there but it is just so amazingly shallow. My advise is use game pass and don't spend a dollar on this. I mean ship customization, character customization, ship upgrading, enemy NPC's and enemy ships that weren't player controlled, even just a damn statistic tracker how hard would that have been for such an experienced developer? They didn't even care enough to try and prevent grievers who can spawn camp or sit at an outpost and kill people trying to turn in quests, I mean that's the basic of the basic multiplayer design.

Basically at the end of the day, a mediocre 15 dollar game with a 60 dollar price tag. Get it for free on Game Pass or just pass entirely, they do not deserve your money.

-There is basically one type of enemy in the game: Skeletons (I'm not counting rattlesnakes since they have no real combat or counter play to them. they just sit there and poison you if you step on them)

-There are no new types of weapons or equipment to get or use. There are no upgrades. There are no levels. There are no skills or talents. There's nothing to acquire other than new skins for the things you start with.

-There are two types of boats in the game. Big boat and little boat. You don't earn or acquire either, you just start with whichever you choose in the menu. If it sinks it doesn't matter. It just respawns. If you die it doesn't matter. You just respawn and can be teleported back.

-There are no stakes in this game, no meaning to anything, and no sense of ownership over anything you have. It's a pirate themed chat room with nice water. It feels like an early prototype tech demo that belongs nowhere near store shelves.

This is a glorified demo or No Mans Sky water edition.

There are 3 voyages that you do and no matter what voyage you pick you end up doing the same things over and over. Go to island X kill some skeletons or go to island Y and dig up a chest. Maybe you like to collect chickens then go to island W and collect some chickens. The game is shallow and has very little stuff to keep players

The game is shallow and has very little stuff to keep players coming back for more. Right now the only thing your working for is gold so you can buy some skins to look cool the problem here is the skins are over priced because they dont have enough skins to sell. For example there are several coats that all look almost identical the only difference is the color there is no variety in the gear you can buy.

PVP can be fun at times having epic ship battles but those only happen 10 percent of the time. If you do try to level up fast then do a raid that takes 2-3 hours because you have to not only fight through waves of skeletons but you also have to deal with people that troll you. I can not count how many times my group has done a raid only to have some sloop show up steal the key then hide it so we cant find it. This is aggravating because you just wasted 3 hours not really enjoying the content because its so much rinse and repeat and you have nothing to show for your wasted time.

There is also the issue with the fact that all the islands are identical sure they have different placement of assets but none of them have a unique character that makes me reorganize them as soon as I step foot on them. The servers right now only support 7 ships so the world feels like a empty place. If you want a ship simulator where you spend most of your time on a boat doing nothing then this is the game for you. I would say take advantage of the game pass and try the game for 14 days and then sign up for a month of the game pass. This game IMO is only worth $15-$20 not the full fledged 60 or more that Microsoft wants.

Sadly, after only a few hours of gameplay, I have come to the conclusion that it's very boring in a short amount of time, which is not good at all considering how long I waited for this release.

If the constant enemy camping at outposts isn't bad enough, the $60 purchase for a game teeming with near nothing to do but wander around aimlessly for hours is BS, and I'm taking this game back for a refund, or a trade in of some kind. It's just not what I was hoping for, so now I must wait again for another Exclusive to hit my XBox One S that might be worth of the purchase, but we all know this game just is not the winner it was touted as being. It seems that many others feel the same way, and I thought the following comments sum this game up the very best!

"Sea of Thieves has no story, no competitive multiplayer, no true character progression, and only very little in the way of compelling gameplay."

"If this game were a movie, it would be a straight to DVD type of movie".

"This game, I feel will be mostly positive just from people really wanting to have a good Microsoft exclusive, but long story short, this game is as large as an ocean but as deep as a puddle. Not much has changed from the alpha, and it seems like the appropriate price should be 30 dollars, not 60".

That really sums up how I felt about this game, and that is why I'm giving this game a rating of 4 out of 10. This game is the HAZE of this Generation. Hoped to be a great exclusive, okay with some friends for a few hours I suppose, then becomes so boring that you just want to place it back on the shelf and wait for more content to come for the game, (for free), one day to help make this the game it should have been in the first place, (much like No Man's Sky has been).

    Sea of fetch quests.

Seriously, outside 3-4 fetch quests, this game has basically one more thing to do. That's pretty terrible.

You can however get around 10-15 hours of fun from the experience, learning to sail, cooperating, trying to solve riddles, but more than that and it gets *very* repetitive, and yeah, boring.

Also, the only things you can get for the coins are cosmetics, which don´t help you in any way. There`s not point to actually engage ships, unless you want to grief and/or make other people mad. You even don´t get anything really special for defeating the kraken or the megalodon. Also, the game is SO overpriced, like really, 60-70$? It should be about 5-20$ max. I can`t get over the fact, that it was in development for 4 years and that´s all they could do. So, yeah, there is not much you can do in this game.
Overall, it´s better than some of Rarewares other projects, but it´s still an absolute disappointment and an awful game.

Sea of Thieves has no story, no competitive multiplayer, no character progression (barring cosmetics), and only very little in the way of compelling gameplay. If you read a review claiming you can do anything in this game, you have been lied to, and the same goes for the "different experience every time" BS. There are three quest vendors and about as many shops. The shops all sell cosmetics, and nothing more. The vendors offer one type of quest each, but each of those quests are essentially the exact same: sail to a small, uninteresting island, kill skeletons/capture chickens/dig, bring the thing this gives you back, get paid. Wash, rinse, repeat. That's the overwhelming bulk, and the occasional session-ending glitches, boring combat (4 weapons total), and relentless repetition, all make this one a pass at $60. I could go on--there's only one type of enemy you can fight per land/sea (sharks/skeletons), there's almost no point fighting other players on those rare occasions you do find them, etc., but I won't bore you. It's fun to sail the ships, but there are only two, and you can't upgrade them in meaningful ways, only the cosmetics. Drinking grog and firing yourself out of a canon and sailing across the sea are all honest to goodness fun, but it's not worth $60 dollars by any stretch of the imagination. I am not saying nobody can have fun on this game, just that for the majority of people this will wear off quickly as the limited nature of this game's weapons, enemies, quests, tasks, and upgrades all become harder and harder to ignore. A beautiful grind for no reason is still a grind for no reason--aesthetics aren't a strong enough pillar to make this last. Do not forget No Man's Sky, and resist the hype. Pass this one while it's at full retail price, it just isn't worth it. Pick it up at ~$30 and enjoy it for what it is. Expand

Theres no gear, everything is cosmetic, this effectively means theres no progression or character growth, only arbitrary ranks with the games three factions. There are 3 types of quests, and thats it. Seriously. Go to an island and find treasure, find chickens, or go to an island and kill skeletons.

The combat is inexcusably bad. Theres a single attack button for swords, which have a 3 hit combo. And thats it... For a game in 2018, I have no idea why Rare thought it was ok to do that. Combat is so bad, it shouldn't even be in the game. Skeletons have broken AI and are no challenge. All you have to do is stand on a rock and it breaks the AI and path finding, and they will just stand there while you mash at them.

The game gets boring real quick once you figure out youve seen and done everything the game has to offer after the first hour of gameplay. After you learn the mechanics, theres nothing left but the grind. And my oh my is it a grind, the stuff of legend. Since theres no gear, no levels, no equipment or gadgets, no progression, not even a story line or a plot, theres not much this game has to offer.

A terrible disappointment, through and through. If your set on getting this, DONT BUY IT for $60, thats a total rip off. Get Game Pass by Microsoft, you can play it for 14 days for free (trial.) Unfortunately a few hours in we started to notice the same thing everyone else has. This game is shallow. After playing it for a little while it feels like someone built the engine, and put those side quests in that people tend to complain about in other games, but forgot to put the main game in. The primary game is fetch quests with a few random events tossed in.

Sea of Thieves has the framework of a game that could be brilliant. I halfway believe maybe it will become that game in a year or so. If so I'd be more than happy to pay for it. But for now, i could not recommend anyone to buy this essentially early access game at full price.

The idea and concept is amazing, drift on the wide seven seas as you fight other pirates and collect the booty.
But this game is not that. This game is not at all what was promised. The game looks beautiful and you really come to admire the cartoonish yet amazing artstyle. Furthermore the music in the game is amazing and you'll be dancing to the tunes as you set out on your pirate adventures. But the flaws are there.
Their is not progression you only have reputation and becoming a "pirate legend" to look forward to. I feel as the game should have been more mmo-esque. What I would have liked to see is a skill tree, not that would make things unfair but i their has to be some kind of objective. Voyage's get old fast and in the beggining they are a real joy, but quickly feel like a choir with voyage's repeating themselves constantly and to my experience, there are almost no other pirates at sea and it just feels like a PvE game only and not a hybrid ( PvP and PvE ).
The game's asking price is unacceptable regarding the fact that you get so little descent content at launch, the game feels like it's in beta and I do not, at all reccomened buying it for 60 dollars, wait for the price to go down to maybe 15-25 dollars or just get it free for 14 days through xbox game pass!

Hope you enjoyed my review, if you did you can go check out my youtube channel at JustMeaty ( the channel with Glitched M as its logo ), I don't upload reviews there but you can find other types of exciting content there! Farewell! :D

Such a beautiful game. The art is clearly very well-done.

However, for $60 there is no real game. The only three missions you really get are so pathetically repetitive. You could play for a single hour and finish every single mission type possible.

This is yet another $ 60 open-world piece of sh*t game with barely anything to do outside of killing the same skeletons on tiny-ass islands or fighting the occasional player online. This is yet another exclusive that fails to make the underpowered xbox one and its cousins fly off the shelves, and further proves that rare is a shadow of its former self.

Well... If they wanted the biggest disappointment award, they earned it for sure. The game itself gets boring after maybe 10-20 hours and since the game is full price, it's almost outrageously bad for the price. Even with friends, the game quickly becomes duller then a rusty knife and has to be one of my most hated games right now.

You had to complete several long, tedious missions just for a small bit of gold. Another problem with this game is catering to single players who do not have friends to play it with. The missions you are tasked with are very difficult and you die often when you play alone. The final thing I will pick on is the very slow, dull sword fighting mechanics. This is definitely the most boring and tedious part of the entire game Expand

    Sea of Thieves Review: 3.5/10
I didn't like this game at all... graphics aren't good, gameplay is boring, almost free to play level, very tedious, uninteresting quests, very little content and there isn't any kind of character progression. I was interested at the beginning for the premise, but the excitement went away very fast.
    A very shallow game.

Pvp only is way too frustrating for new players with basic stuff, the game is quite good and beautiful but to die again and again takes all of the fun out... I'm glad i played it with gamepass and didn't have to pay full price. A pve mode would allow more players to enjoy the game especially when a pvp mode already exists.

Simply put this game has a great sailing system, bare bones mechanics both in fighting, PVE, PVP, and customization. Take a look at the announce trailer 2 yrs ago and tell me if you see anything new or changed.. and should I even say things were removed such as ability to open a chest.

    Pros:
    - Beautiful Water Physics
    - Concept
    - Art style
    - Team Gameplay regarding ship controls and ship combat.

    CONS:
    - Quest System ( 3 Types of quests which are pretty much the same thing..just a new asset is used as the collect this and return concept.
    - Cosmetics ( Rare has literally only done cosmetics for the last like 15 yrs on the marketplace.. a couple small Kinect games don't count) .. why so few and why so generic?
    - No progression past a Rep system that is to this point completely meaningless past cosmetic unlocks.
    - No Leveling system
    - No Penalties for anything ( If grinding for cosmetic gold currency is boring .. all there is left is PVP.. problem is no bounties or anything to make one Pirate more fierce or a price on a head or anything to make people care.. the only thing to do is do everything you can in about 1 hour.. then just ruin the time of others without any thought on should or does it matter)
    - World has nothing to do.. no interaction with anything.. exploring feels pointless.
    - So few enemies and can we talk about how the animations (Snakes) are so freaking awful.
    - No Story, No nothing really..just a good team sailing game with nice water and weather effects on water.
    - So much missing.. only two types of boat.. No Canoes, No Harpoons, No loot, No Traps, Nothing interesting to collect.
    - Weapon Combat is bad, feels like what you see produced in college game design classes. Nothing slashing a horribly animated snake just to see if fall and disappear.

My overall opinion is this game was created by a totally changed and corporate Rare.. Microsoft knew this game had no features and didn't care.. they used this as a big name title with lots of hype to convince people to NOT PAY 60 BUCKS AND INSTEAD SUBSCRIBE TO XBOX GAMEPASS which is honestly whats going on seeing they actually had ads up saying play for FREE.. 14 day trial and only 10 bucks/month. They want people to pay 10 bucks a month that way they are slowing paying into a Early Access game that isn't called Early Access !

Why not give the option to hire some AI crews for your ship? The game's only saving grace is its art-like graphics. The sea can look amazing from time to time.

    2) Collect random animals. Basically go to an island and round up a few animals. This is even more trivial than the treasure chests.
    3) Kill "boss" skeletons. Again, very trivial and not enjoyable as the gun/melee mechanics in this game are very limited.

Basically, all of the mission types above would be considered filler quests in any other MMO or RPG. Quests you wouldn't bother with after doing them a couple times. But that is all there is to this game.

The PVP is pretty weak as well, but I mostly play solo so I didn't do too much of that. It is annoying that you have to deal with gank squads that just sit at outposts ready for you to return the boring missions. Running very boring missions with a chance of getting ganked at the end? Wow what fun! They should let solo players into instances with only other solo players that might be a bit more enjoyable.

And not only are the missions boring and repetitive but the gold you receive is very minor for completing them. After almost 2 days I'm not even close to affording a single ship cosmetic (70,000 gold for the lamest ship cosmetic and after 2 days I'm not even close to that). Sure I can afford a couple lame clothing items but decking out your ship is what people want and that will take forever.

I might have given this a 5/10 if the price was $20, with the promise of more content to come. But for $60 this game is an absolute rip off. After less than 2 days I'm already bored and probably won't bother playing anymore. Save your money or wait a couple years and see if they ever add any interesting content.

Roughly Three hours in and I’ve only seen one other person while playing solo or with friends. The game is gorgeous, however on higher settings has a pretty bad frame rate on PC. I’ve never seen water look this good honestly. The bad for me is how simple this game is & I do mean simple.

There are 3 factions and each one gives you fetch quests to go and get something to bring back to them. Each time you do it you will get a faction number to rise which unlocks a cosmetic, exclusive to that faction while getting some gold. You then use the gold to buy skins for your character(that you don’t get to create), your weapons and ship. That’s it. There’s no story, there’s no other quest elements. All of the gear is cosmetic and plays the same as what you start out with. There are chests worth more and some do stuff like fill up your boat randomly with water if it’s a cursed chest.

Overall it feels like a game still in beta and maybe one that was gonna use the loot box algorithm. I’m really disappointed in Rare & for the millionth time this gen, Microsoft. It’s not worth $60 and I felt like the $35 I put into it was too much also. I’d have paid maybe $15 for it, if anything honestly.

This is very much the “Destiny” of pirate games and what I mean by that is another sixty dollar title has little content, a very buggy launch and is very repetitive. It is far worse in that sense than Destiny, but so people know where im coming from that is what I mean. I don't see this making it very far even with some changes due to the slew of games coming out this year, including what looks like a more ambitious pirate themed video game.

The grinding for factions, the money grind, the story quests. All of that is smoke and mirrors to coax PvE focused players out onto the ocean so PvP focused players can kill them, steal their stuff and feel like big bad pirates. Then when the player they end up robbing complains, they can blame the game for their actions, they can blame the player they just killed, they can blame the developers or anyone else they can think of other than themselves.

They should have made the game fun and friendly to everyone instead of making it favor PvP focused players while intentionally disadvantaging PvE focused players. For all the people that are going to tell me this is a PvP game, like I mentioned already, there's a lot of PvE content for a PvP focused game. Arena is PvP, Open is a ganker's paradise. It's anarchy. If you're good at PvP and you have a crew of 4+, then it's open season to roam around and kill people at your leisure, for everyone else it's a nightmare of constantly looking over your shoulder, losing your progress and putting up with griefers. Imagine if GTA had no passive mode and you had to do all of the missions in the public lobby where you could have some one roll up and kill you at any time. That's what this game is like except it will usually be 2-4 people on a ship instead of one guy in a vehicle.

If this is true, Sea of Thieves is a insanity simulator. After 30 minutes of gameplay you get bored because you already saw everything (except the monster which is called Kraken, but it is not Kraken. Kraken should be a big octopus, not some lame tentacles in the sea). The gameplay is this:

With poor aesthetics and dull missions this game started to be a pain in the ass, losing my attetion couple hours after, even playing with a group of friends this is not a good experience much less a rewarding one. There's no solid progression, everything is cosmetic. The enemys are repetitive and stupid, the pvp laughable.

    Camping
Camping outposts is really common and really popular. As a sloop player for the first 10 hours if I saw a 4 man camping the outpost it became "time to visit another outpost". That kind of gameplay isn't fun. As a 4 man, I found that while unloading we'd just get barraged by other groups and have some but a very small portion stolen. This also isn't fun. Its the equivalent of dying while turning in a quest to only realize you have to do the quest again entirely. In WOW they have guards that punish players for killing in certain areas but still allowing it. Not every outpost should be a safe zone but there should be at least 1 area where you can safely turn in quests. A lot like a pirates haven.

    Spawn Abuse
In my last 5 hours of playing I was with a fairly well coordinated 4 man. We were taking a stronghold and halfway through someone tried to sink our ship. No big deal we take them on and enjoy the action. We sink their ship after landing 15 shots to the submerged part of the ship. So we go back to the stronghold and keep on fighting it while a few of our guys repair then meet back up. The guys who we just sunk respawn and come over. We sink them again. We continue the stronghold. They come over again they finally sink us and the stronghold was at the boss. We lost once but because spawning is abusable we lost a lot of work. To me, there should be some kind of New Life Rule or NLR. The fact that we sunk them in a completely fair matchup should have been the end of that quarrel. Extremely lame that you can win and those who lost get to abuse respawning until they win if their spawns are lucky enough. To me, this feels like I'm wasting my time playing. I enjoyed taking the stronghold I enjoyed fighting the enemies. I did not enjoy getting cheesed and the game permits it. Which pretty much negates any fun I was having.

    Quests
Quests are highly repetitive. Maybe scale difficulty quicker. A lot of the level 15 quests feels no harder than the level 1. You have skeletons you have bosses use them. Too many quests demand the same thing without variation in difficulty. Every now and then you do get a good hard one but it's not often. Also for merchant quests, it would be nice to turn it in anywhere since outpost camping is a thing and its hard enough doing the merchant quests for fun anyways.

    NonQuest Items
Nonquest items contribute jack all to your rank in that guild. It really should contribute just as much since getting items from quests is actually easier since it screams "THE LOOT IS RIGHT HERE".

    Price
For 60$ you won't get much for variety here. Realistically the game should cost 20$ or 30$ the 60$ is a cash grab and a joke until the price is brought down I do not recommend playing this game.

    Conclusion
It's not bad but if you already have gamepass do not pay the 60$ on this game it will leave you with regret. I would actually recommend buying gamepass for a week and you'll experience all this game has to offer for 10$.

    Cheers and happy Sailing!

How else do you explain that it takes two days of adventuring, maybe some 20-30 chests of gold to buy one ... freaking ... jacket - not a tier-3 uber OP jacket - the first jacket upgrade in the game?!

After two days of repetitive grind my increasingly desperate pirate calculated he would have to play for 60 solid days, collecting something approaching 2000 chests from INCREDIBLY repetitive missions to get the outfit he wanted and a few ship upgrades. What the heck, Rare, we have lives - and a huge array of other ways to entertain ourselves!

This is the most grindy game I have ever played, coupled with problems like (literally) one type of enemy, snakes with more health than sharks, physics engine bugs that have sunken ships leaving the water and flying overhead(!), a tiny game world, repetitive under-populated islands, just 3 basically identical quest types and horribly poor balance between small and large crews when it comes to the much-touted skeleton forts, this game officially stinks worse than a bilge-rat boot.

What a rush-job - a great graphics engine and a satisfying sailing mechanic do not a game make - virtually every mobile game has greater depth and variety. Do NOT waste your money - give it 18 months and check back in - or just go play Monkey Island, Sid Meier's Pirates or Ron Gilbert's underrated mobile game Scallywags to get your piratey-fix.

No wonder Guybrush was so willing to sell "fine leather jackets" - he must have been the richest pirate in the whole Caribbean...

On its face, Sea of Thieves sounds like a lot of fun. Travel the high seas with some friends, engage in naval combat, and plunder to your heart's content. There are moments when this vision acts itself out in fantastic ways, but that's all it is. Just moments.

Rare has created a relatively beautiful world that is devoid of life. The game hinges on player's imagination and creating their own path, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There have been many games that rely on the player's ability to create their own story.

Yet, with Sea of Thieves, everything feels empty. The only NPCs are quest givers, who are one-dimensional, and poorly crafted skeleton enemies. The enemies lack any creativity or thought. They are merely a stand-in obstacle for players to pass through. The enemies themselves don't amount to a challenge, until Sea of Thieves' clunky, outdated, and overall poor land combat kicks in.

The land combat is not only dull and clunky, but downright bad. It feels more akin to a chore rather than a rewarding challenge as you try to secure your treasure.

For a game touted as an open sandbox, it seems Rare built the sandbox but forgot the sand. There are three factions with three "different" quest types, but each amounts to fetching a chest, skull, or animals and returning them to the quest giver. There are skeleton forts to clear, but when melee combat feels like players are using low-level characters from Morrowind, the excitement from facing down a horde of enemies is completely destroyed.

This leaves just fetch quests. The quests are nothing more than radiant questlines that have popped up in AAA RPGs: Go to x, find Y, return. Of course, as a game centering on pirating, there are treasure maps and riddles to solve, but the enjoyment is once again diluted thanks to the previously mentioned skeletons. Once again, fighting enemies should feeling challenging and rewarding, rather than an annoyance. It seems Rare threw the skeletons in because they knew not having mobs was creating too easy of an experience, so they hastily threw something together and here we are.

In a game where cosmetic customization was touted over a more traditional progression system, cosmetic customization is severely lacking. I was extremely excited when I learned SoT would enter around cosmetics, rather than unlocking higher grade hulls or weapons. It should have been a fresh breath of air. Instead, the customization is barebones and lacking. Currently, there are only three items on ships that players can customize. Players cannot create anything truly unique. In a sandbox game. A sandbox game that touted cosmetic customization as the driving force behind its rewards. Player customization is also severely lacking. Players are limited to just a few clothing and hair options.

Sea of Thieves is everything the gaming community has hated about recent release in one concise package. Lack of customization, bad AI, an empty world, bad combat, and fetch quests.

The promise of "more content to come" cannot be the excuse developers turn to when they push out games that are half-finished, but that is precisely what Rare has done. It is not a promise of "Free DLC," but rather a promise of content that should have been in the game from its awkward and mostly broken launch.

Let's get to the exciting parts, where Sea of Thieves really shows its value. NAVAL COMBAT.

For a game built around PvP, SoT gets it right in isolated instances. Ship-to-ship combat is some of the most fun players can have. There's not much more exciting than sinking or looting an enemy ship, while on the flip side the feeling of loss as you abandon your sinking ship and its content is heavy. This is where SoT shines. The naval combat is fun, especially when your crew is coordinating together as you blast holes in the sides of enemy ships or frantically try to scoop water out of your hold as you try to keep your ship together.

However, finding the instance of ship-to-ship combat is few and far between. Players are more likely to have their ship destroyed while they are turning in their fetch quests, or are on shore looking for treasure, than having their ship sunk as a result of ship-to-ship combat. There is no punishment for griefers who camp outposts (killing players near the quest givers as they try to turn in treasure, sinking empty docked ships) or spawn camp.

In a game that relies so heavily on the sense of accomplishment from PvP, the feeling is completely ruined by players who have decided to take the easy way out.

The game's "Pirate Code" does nothing to deter players who endless grief and troll, for no purpose other than to ruin the experience of other players. Rare is trusting players to self-police and it is already clear, players cannot be counted on to do so.

SoT could have been a fantastic and unique experience, but instead it feels desolate and empty, hampered by bad gameplay.

На выходе получилась абсолютная сервисная неиграбельная чушь - развлеки себя сам. Огромная проблема в том, что она ориентирована на команду друзей, а когда ты по жизни forever alone Море воров нет смысла ни качать, ни запускать. Great visuals, good base game, but that's were it stops. This game has enough content for 4-5 hours, and then u have to make the rest yourself. Sadly to do something awsome u kinda need more then 24 people(which u can't..). Meh mby with constant updates for 2-3 years, mby it has enough to do.

Sea of Thieves provides all the necessary tools to the players willing to dive together in great naval adventures, full of smaller quests and epic sea battles.

An amazing world full of promise, but currently rather empty. More updates will be key. [May 2018, p.74]

We have nothing but respect for Rare's vision with Sea of Thieves, but it is a game as likely to chew you up and spit you out, as it is to embrace you. If the wind is in your favour then it can be a delight, but a storm is never far off if you lose momentum. The real test of the quality and efficacy of Rare's plan will be in how it manages to evolve and grow in the weeks and months to come. [Issue#199, p.67]
