I do think there could have been greater incentive to explore, other than just the necessity to find items, because it never offers much sanctification in the exploration and discovery as a result. The game is either very easy or very difficult, which indicates a balancing issue and makes the game's intended audience difficult to pin down. I also encountered a few bugs. Its a fun game with some obvious charm but not much more. Expand

    游戏还不错,有几点比较失望:
    1. 任务指引复杂不够明了
    2. 怪物仇恨标指示经常漂而且不准确
    3. 物品效果没有详细说明
    4. Boss战少且难度两极分化不均衡

    通关后来补。

The gameplay is easy to pick up and the game doesn't really takes it self seriously. For the story it is almost non existed but that is fine because the narrator in this game which follows you around and talks to you with a robot voice is really funny to listen too. The exploration of this game is where the game really shines, the graphics are really beautifull and cartoony which I really love and I hope more games will copy it. I finished the main game in 5 hours and didnt actually bother go any further because i had seen enough. the boss fights where amazing and really looked apart but besides that it really wasn't something new.

I give this game a 7/10 because i had a blast of an 5 hours but besides the main game i didn't really want to come back. So i really recommend this game if you like a silly exploration based FPS!

    have a nice day!

The game was available today in the Game Pass on the XBox One. I wondered why after 3 months this ended up there.
After a while, you notice it. It is simply a mix of many well-known elements that you already know enough. It's quite nice to watch but by and large it's a tough game.

This one was okay. Maybe not the best but it did shine in some moments. You're tasked with investigating and mapping an uncharted planet for a fairly incompetent corporation that may not be able to provide you with much support beyond the ship's AI and a Fabricator, in to which you can dump the various materials you find all over the planet to make upgrades to your abilities-some of which are necessary to progress in the story.

Humor is a difficult thing for a game to portray to everyone's tastes, but this one is a little hit and miss. I'm not usually a fan of awkward humor (Skittles commercials, etc.) so some of that stuff felt stupid to me. It seemed like they were going for more of an 'Adult Swim Show' vibe by the middle of it. There were a few genuinely funny moments, especially early on in the story. And in the character selection at the beginning you can choose to play as a dog in a spacesuit, which really just means you'll be barking instead of grunting the whole way through. That was a pretty funny idea.

The platforming and combat became very irritating after a while, mostly because there is so much of it. It's possible that the shooting is meant to be a little off based on the nature of the story. I would often find myself sighing when the game pointed me towards a goal that was on a distant island several platforming sections away.

Not that they really point you in the right direction all that often, it's a bit tough to find where you are supposed to go in order to continue the story. Though I may be missing the point of the game on that one, since you are intended to explore and find your way on your own.

I'm glad I played it, but I'm also glad I was able to play it on Game Pass. Not really worth a buy for me.

Overall a good attempt at a game. Like pretty much every critic review you read complains about the same issues and so do I.

Firstly this is one of the most light hearted and fun games I've played in a long time as far as the story goes. The background and the ongoing chatter throughout the game is just great. Great job to the writers.

The game designers though really produced a mix bag of a game. Overall the platforming is good and I rarely had issues with getting around once the appropriate upgrades were installed. The collectibles were interesting and as a whole it was a solid game. But there were a couple of design decisions that just didn't make any sense.

The biggest failure in this game is the combat. Had no combat been added to the game then this would have been a great exploration game. But somebody in marketing/management decided that you cannot have a successful game without combat so it was shoehorned in. The only weapon you get is weak, the aiming is rough and you are always outgunned. As a survival game it makes sense to have a little combat and early in the game that is perfect. But by mid game you enter pretty much every area and are attacked. Leave the area and come back and you have to fight again. Almost every fight either involves a couple of shot kills or some gimmicky mechanism of using a bomb to first blow up/melt something covering a glowing spot that you have to hit. So most end game battles (and all boss fights) are several phases of disable/destroy, shoot, repeat. Boring and really not necessary. It is really unfortunate that the game forced so much combat in this game when it wasn't needed.

Speaking of combat this game has one of the worst design decisions I've seen in a really long time. Your only gun has upgrades you can unlock. But once you unlock them you then have to do a (progressively harder) QTE event every time you want to use it. If you mess up you are unable to shoot for several seconds (or use anything else) leaving you vulnerable. This is supposed to be a hi-tech game so why am I doing a QTE to use an upgrade I spent time getting? Serious how did this even make sense during design discussions?

Another poor design decision is the save system. The game does have a nice benefit of you not losing anything when you die but you have to recollect your loot. The problem is at no point can you pause the game. That means if you're done for the evening you have to exit to the menu. That counts as a death. What? So the person(s) who thought this was a good idea has NEVER needed to stop playing their game because of an important call, family needs or to go to work??? Nowhere in the realm of common sense does this make any sense.

The bosses themselves are actually fun and interesting. Not the combat, it is awful. But the boss designs are unique and bring a lot to the table. It is just unfortunate this game is marred in a believe that it should be a shooter instead of striving for something more.

If you enjoy sarcastic artificial intelligence consistently telling you that "you're going to die," like in Borderlands or Portal, you might love this game. An exploration/puzzle based platformer is nothing new but the vibrant colors and expressive creatures underlined by a dark and demented plot make an interesting experience. In many games of the metroidvania genre you are constantly in a closed off temple/cave/small clearing, but Savage Planet shows off the size of the map at every point. Right from the start, the goal is clear: climb the tower. You can literally see where the top of the tower disappears into the clouds from the beginning of the game. As you climb the world, you can look back at most any point and see how far you've come which is a feature I didn't know I loved until playing this game. Teleportation checkpoints relieve some of the grueling progress punishment these games tend to have. A surprisingly large library of special upgrades is also available. The upgrades to your gear help you advance through the world but only about 50% of them are required to beat the game. The rest are fun add-ons that provide alternative game-play styles. The progression feels smooth, and the difference each upgrade makes is instantly felt, making for a fun experience.

The humor in this game is top notch. The team at Typhoon Studios clearly enjoyed themselves during development. The premise of a poorly run, overpopulated, and trashy earth is reminiscent of the movie Idiocracy. Imagine a sequel to the movie in video game form where the same immoral, hedonistic lifestyle has pushed humans to occupy alien planets and exploit them to the fullest. The life forms you discover are diverse and each has abilities or attributes to utilize on your way to the top. You quite literally punt small, helpless birds into razor-bladed vines throughout the game. While it is quite sad that you are taking advantage of every living thing on the planet, the game is very pointed and satirical about the future projection of the human race. Another hilarious aspect of the game is that you and your partner are perpetual "meat clones". As you die, they just grow a new body and download your consciousness to the new host. If you come across your old dead body in the world, you can bury it out of respect. It is both eerie and amazing at the same time.

As for the game-play, there is a lot to consider. The controls are reminiscent of the N64 at times, which is not ideal when a giant beast is chasing you and their hit-points are tiny and moving. It was clear that world design was prioritized over actual controls. The environment is very interactive but it is at many times unclear if there's a purpose to something or if its a meaningless distraction. For a platformer, the game can be unforgiving while jumping from floating island to floating island and you can often knock your partner off a ledge just by walking passed them (it's also hilarious sometimes). The game itself is not very difficult. What is difficult is knowing what upgrades you need to reach a certain area but not having enough resources to purchase the upgrade. The constant backtracking can become tedious towards the end of the game.

Depending on how you play, this game can be a lot of different things for you. It is clear that Journey to the Savage planet is meant for two player co-op. I am not sure I would have finished it by myself. But being able to explore and mess around with a friend made the game substantially better. It is a good, relaxing transition game between larger titles. With about 12-15 hours of story and plenty of collectibles for our treasure hoarders out there, the game was a pleasant surprise. As far as replay-ability, I am not sure there is anything left to see after finishing the game so replaying would not add to the experience at all. We at Busch League Gaming really enjoyed playing this title but would not have been willing to pay the full $30 price tag to try it out (thank you Xbox GamePass).

Journey to the Savage Planet is a very enjoyable and satisfying space adventure, with great humour and full of surprises and crazy situations, even if a bit short. We'd love to see a sequel funded with a bigger budget.

I enjoyed my time with Journey to the Savage Planet, not only for its simplistic gameplay and exploration of an interesting and beautiful planet, but especially for its humor. Even the way that you hold items in your left hand throughout is funny, as is every email and commercial you receive on your ship. Typhoon Studios has created something special in their very first outing as a developer, and while it may not be perfect, it sure was an interesting Journey to the Savage Planet.

Journey to the Savage Planet is a great freshman effort from Typhoon and one of the early surprises of 2020. I will be thinking about this game as the year goes on as one of the best surprises I had literally no interest in upon kicking it off. If you enjoy exploration games like Metroid Prime I highly suggest giving it a go. The charm, humor, and game loop are just fresh enough to keep players interested in this relatively slow time for releases. The price tag also doesn’t hurt.
