My main complaint is the fact that the teammates' AI feel like they were worked on for no longer than 5 minutes. They barely know how to revive a teammate that is less than 5 feet from them. Another complaint is the checkpoint placements. Through my whole run of halo 5 on legendary coop, there were barely any moments where the checkpoint was placed away from the enemies. Most of them were placed when the enemy was in the player's face, causing an instant down. The last complaint is that the campaign is not playable on split-screen. Every halo game contained a split-screen, making it fun to play when friends and family come over or something.
I know these complaints I have don't sound very big, but it makes the campaign feel more annoying and frustrating than enjoyable for most of the fights. It makes me feel as if I absolutely need to play the campaign on single-player or four-player if I were to attempt legendary.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm just gonna say it Halo 5 sucks, and these are the reasons why it is such a waste of digital space.

Halo 5: Guardians campaign is a confusing disarray of levels, characters, and story plots that don't add up. Halo 5, which takes equal parts of the Halo novels, lame live-action mini-series, and characters, by Halo standards, don't really have an impact or you would care for. The story centers around Spartan Jameson Locke, of which he is the main character of the live action series Halo: Nightfall, and Fireteam Osiris, which is composed of Spartans Holly Tanaka, Olympia Vale, and Edward Buck, which you might recognize from previous Halo games Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. The premise of the story is to track down the location of the Master Chief, after Master Chief receives a vision that Cortana is still alive and on a distant planet called Meridan. After Master Chief arrives on Meridan with his team of Spartans called Blue Team, Spartan Locke shortly arrives and tracks them down, and after a heated argument about what both of their objectives entail, they engage in a fisticuff, and Master Chief escapes. After this, the game continues to get really confusing for most intents and purposes, as Locke, has to fight an Elite civil war upon their home planet, Sanghelios, and Master Chief learns that Cortana is alive and has essentially become the forerunner equivalent to Gravemind, the Flood hive mind from previous games. But if you think that's the worst, here are more plot points that they left out entirely, as well as keen observations.
!. Halo 5, like Halo 4, does not take place around or even remotely close to a Halo ring.
    2. The Flood, again like 4, do not make an appearance.
    3. In the Campaign, they say that Master Chief isn't the last Spartan 2 anymore.
    4. There are 12 levels with Spartan Locke, and only 3 levels with Master Chief. I thought Master Chief was the star of the show...
    5. Spartan Locke looks way too close to ODST character Romeo
    6. Holly Tanaka does not look remotely close to a Japanese person.
    7. Your A.I. buddies, are almost dumber than marines in previous Halo games.
    8. Vehicles, which is one of the reasons Halo is enjoyable, get so shafted.
    9. You get nothing for beating the game, no armor, no option to play as the other characters, absolutely nothing.
    10. And this might be the last point, they're 2/3 levels dedicated to storytelling.
And the sad thing about this story is that, it vaguely reminds of Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker, because the fact that Snake believes that the Boss is still alive, is almost word for word the same as Master Chief looking for Cortana. Halo doesn't need convoluted plot twists and turns, it just needs good game play, great voice acting, and copious amounts of vehicles. The only good thing I can say about the game is, well, which they kinda stole this from Star Wars: Republic Commando, but if you're playing solo, you can assign your A.I. buddies to attack certain targets, pick up weapons, and drive vehicles.

So far, you just heard me jaw about the hideous campaign, but surely since this is Halo, you'd expect a decent online multi-player right?

    Wrong.

Halo multiplayer is divided into two playlists, Arena and Warzone. Arena has the core game types you'd expect like Slayer and Free-for-Fall, but oddly, no Oddball, or Team Objectives like neutral bomb. and Warzone, which combines equal parts disappointment, Territories, and Invasion from Halo:Reach. Warzone also has the privilege of being the worst Halo mode ever invented beside modes made just for the Action Sack playlist. How the game works is capture territories, and continually move on to the next one, like Invasion. There is also A. I. on the map to kill for points, but that's more of a problem than an innovative feature, because matches are lost and won killing those things instead of capturing said territories. After capturing all territories on the map, you have to destroy the other team's power core, which boil down to my next point that the power core is impossible to reach and you're gonna die multiple times trying to reach it, because the maps are designed so poorly that all objectives/territories are only accessible by a bottleneck corridor, and that people abuse the requisition system, which gives people vehicles, power weapons, and power-ups like active camo. And that's not even the end of all of the gripes I have for game, which I'm almost surprised I forgot this, the game handles like crap, remakes of maps are really bad like Headlong, and Midship, and the fact that the SMG which has been absent since Halo:Reach overpowers the Assault Rifle and horribly imbalances gameplay, is astonishing. From reading this review, you might think this guy is an **** and doesn't know what's he talking about. No, the game is that bad, like I'd rather play Halo Spartan Assault, or Halo Wars, instead of this heap of garbage. I fear for Halo 6.

The multiplayer is pretty good but it feels pretty old and a bit uninspired also. I just feel like the Halo 5 multiplayer is not up to today's standards and that other games does multiplayer much better.

Bottom line is, I feel like this game was not worth the price I paid for it, I feel almost a bit cheated out of my money and lied to by the devs and publisher, what they promised was not what we got.
What is even worse is that, this is an Xbox One exclusive, it should be the best thing available on the Xbox One, but it just feels rushed and unfinished.
I love the Halo series, I really do, but this game just left a bad taste in my mouth.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Coming from Halo 4, this game is a definite step down. Whereas Halo 4 expanded the universe and developed Chief and Cortana on a much more intimate level, this game felt rushed. The split between Lock and Chief resulted in me not feeling attached to either character. By adding Chief's team, I feel like there was less focus on any character at all. The plot progression was minimal. Basically, Lock chases Chief, Chief runs away a few times, and Cortana's doing something completely out of character. Just when the story is about to get interesting, it ends. Overall, if you're looking for a quality game with a good story, look somewhere else.

Despite a completely disappointing campaign, the game-play was reasonably good. It didn't add anything new, but otherwise it was acceptable. I haven't played Multi-player, because I don't care enough about it to pay for a subscription each month.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After getting past the initial excitement of having the first new Halo title on Xbox One, I can now write an objective review of Halo 5 Guardians.

    Let's start with the good:

-343 clearly spent a lot of time working on H5's Mulitplayer mechanics/player physics. It feels and plays wonderfully.
-Warzone is an interesting new game mode that may make Halo 5 have a slightly higher replayability factor.

That just about covers the positive attributes of Halo 5. Now let's get into the negatives.

-This is by far the worst and most disappointing campaign in this history of the franchise. Not only does 343i take a radical new approach to how the campaign is played by introducing fireteams, the story itself is boring and each mission feels repetitive and linear. The player never has a solid understanding as to what's going on in the story and the characters are uninteresting, dare to say, unlikable.
-you would think if 343i decided to take such a dramatic step in the campaign, the least they would do is make sure the AI for each fireteam works and gels well into what the player is trying to accomplish in each mission, but they don't. The AI is troublesome and subtracts far more than they add to the gameplay experience by dying, taking you away from the objective by having to revive them or should the player go down, they seldomly succeed in reviving you. Not to mention, they are not autonomous like a highly trained super solider should be, they require constant orders to be effective when playing on heroic or legendary thereby taking time away from the players ability to focus on completing the mission.
-the level design is flat out horrible. The doors a player can "Spartan charge" through are not what was portraid in Halo 5's marketing campaign, are misplaced and feel forced into each location. 343i's claim of the open world experience was clearly not implemented properly.
-the new characters are dull and the re-imagined cortana is not nearly as attractive as she was in Halo 4.

Bottom line, 343i should be embarassed at what they produced in Halo 5 and Phil Spencer should take a long hard look at what changes need to be made to ensure Halo has a place in the future of the gaming industry.

Disclaimer: I've been playing Halo since Combat Evolved came out in 2001. I know a good Halo when I see it.

For all the hype this game had, this has been an extreme disappointment.

Campaign: Story feels like it was written by a 12 year old after his first time playing Halo 2 and watching Age of Ultron in the same day. They marketed it in such a way that implied character development for Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris. They also highlighted the confrontation between Chief and Locke in a ton of their ads, and they end up getting into ONE fist fight and that's it. Lol really? I expected more tension, more buildup. Blue Team goes AWOL after your first mission with them, at the mere possibility of Cortana being around. Haha does Blue Team have like no loyalty to the UNSC? Things like that made it feel rushed and comic booky. And I wouldn'tve minded a Halo game with little character development if Halo 4's story hadn't started fleshing out Chief and Cortana and if the advertising was more like "big explosions and cool gunfights" instead of "complex plot and multi-dimmensional characters". It feels like we were lied to.
Multiplayer: This is where Halo 5 wins its points for me. It's a HUGE improvement over the abomination Halo 4's MP was and over the retrospectively 'meh' Halo: Reach. Weapon sandbox feels balanced, with exceptions (nerf lightrifle pls) maps are well thought out (tactically, not creatively) gameplay is fast and fluid, and the possibility to turn a fight around even when someone gets the drop on you makes the game feel like Halo again. MP has weak spots too though. No social playlists (other than warzone which draaaaaags) turns everyone into tryhards. They ditched the voting system (thank u) in favor of map rotation because they wanted the game to feel like it has variety. Unfortunately since map rotation was screwed up the game still feels like it's lacking in variety. No king of the hill, oddball, infection etc. adds to that feeling of "no meat on the bones".
Plus these maps lack environmental detail. Not SUPER important but when maps like Guardian, Lockout, and Blood Gulch exist you'd think they could make these maps a little more fun to look at.
I really wish they would just fix the Master Chief Collection so we can play CE, 2 and 3 more consistently T_T

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Halo 5's singleplayer is bad. But Halo 5 the game great.

Yes Halo 5's singleplayer is probably the worst of the all the Halos featuring Master Chief (and this one barely features him). The narrative is confusing, and unless you've read all the comics, watched the shows (which I haven't), then you'll be confused to who many characters are and why they are the way they are. Locke and Chief never have the epic battle that they were advertised to have, with the game ending on another cliffhanger. Still the gunplay remains fantastic like any Halo game. The new controls allow for much greater mobility, such as boosting and climbing ledges, which makes the game have a whole knew dimension to it's combat. Many have said this is proof to Halo becoming Call of Duty, which is completely wrong. Halo 5 if anything is a step back (or forward) toward becoming a pure Halo game again, for reasons I'll talk about later. The Visuals are gorgeous and at 60fps, it's one of the smoothest shooters I've ever played.

The saving grace for Halo 5 is by far it's multiplayer. Gone are the classes and the spartan abilities. Back are the good old Halo style multiplayer that, to me, feels very similar to Halo 3, and NOT Call of Duty. All of the guns you could pick for your loadouts in Halo 4 are now found on the map, which allow them to be more powerful and have more unique qualities as opposed to trying to balance everything to allow for players to make classes with them. For me, Halo 4's multiplayer was fun, but it felt off. Halo 5 has brought back what I always loved and missed about Halo.

Multiplayer isn't without it's faults though. The requisition system screams cash grab for it's micro transactions, but I never felt like I was limited by not buying packs and earning them instead. Now armor is randomly obtained from these req packs with varying degrees of rarity, which diminishes the value of having rare armor as in older Halos it meant you accomplished something to obtain it. Armor customization is reduced to just armor, helmets, and visor color, though this doesn't bother me that much. New to the game are custom skins for your starting weapons, which is a welcomed addition but not necessary. For some of the smaller maps, spawn killing can sometimes become a little frustrating, mainly on my favorite game mode, SWAT. But it hasn't been bad enough to be game breaking for me, and hopefully it's something that can be addressed in the future.

As for the modes, I spend most of my time on the classics like SWAT and Big Team. Capture the flag and strongholds is as fun as ever, requiring team work and a small amount of coordination. The new game mode. which is obviously influenced by games like League of Legends, is Warzone. Here two teams fight for control of areas, similar to strongholds, while competing to kill computer enemies, such as Covenant forces, for a race to 1000 points. This mode uses "cards" you get from req packs to summon different vehicles and weapons. The cool part about this is each weapons and vehicle has many variants, unlike normal Halo multiplayer. For example you can get a Battle Rifle with a scope, or a SAW with explosive rounds. There's different types of Ghosts with different strengths, each with a different color scheme or model. Though the req system might seem like a pay to win scenario, the fact that you have to "level up" you req level in each Warzone game to a certain level to use more powerful cards makes it harder for players with a powerful arsenal of cards to unleash hell on others. Furthermore, once you use a power ful req pack, say a vehicle that takes 6 req points, you have to wait for those req points to recharge within the match. Still for all the fun Warzone is, it feels a little unbalanced, as the team that takes the lead usually keeps it, and scores tend to be pretty lopsided. I tend to stay in the classic multiplayer modes, where requisition cards have no affect. Finally, the dedicated servers for Halo 5 are probably the best yet for Xbox One gamers. I rarely if ever feel like I have bad connection, and only a few times have I seen other players skipping around.

For all the negative things about Halo 5, I have to give it a 9/10 for just how fun the multiplayer is. Yes the story mode is pretty bad compared to the Halo singleplayers we're used to. if you're into Halo for the singleplayer, bump the rating down to a 5/10. I haven't been able to put down the multiplayer. I stopped for about a week when I got sucked into Fallout 4, but in the end I always come back to killing hours of time by playing Halo 5. For some, Halo 5 may be another step in the wrong direction by 343i, but for me it's a big step forward for multiplayer, and honestly I haven't been this hooked on Halo since Halo 3.

    Gameplay

First off, the gameplay, which to me is the best in the series, 343i was not afraid to make changes to the format and it payoffs, the pace of the combat is brisk and elegant. The addition of the spartan abilities are great and make you feel like the war machine your supposed to be while also balancing it out it in multiplayer which might just be the best in the series. The gun play is also well done, as usual for a Halo game, and each weapon feels useful in some way.

    Story

As for the story, it was an enjoyable piece to the halo universe but it largely felt like it was setting up the pieces for the next game, and i feel like they could have dove a little deeper with some of the characters, including Locke. overall it was an exciting story with some really good moments but definitely one of the weaker Halo campaigns.

    Graphics/Presentation

Halo game have always had great graphics and that is no different with Guardians, everything runs smooth as silk, and there are no frame rate issues

Overall, this is an excellent entry into the Halo series, and although the story lacks in some respects the multiplayer, and gameplay are the best the series has seen, and i am excited to see where chief ends up in 6

And Halo 5 Guardians has done a MUCH better job than Halo 4.

To give a small back story to my Halo experience, I've been playing since Combat Evolved released on the OG Xbox. And remember kids bringing in the Halo 2 edition Xbox when it first released into school. So when I hear Halo, it brings back a familiar nostalgia that I absolutely love. And Halo 5 Guardians has done a MUCH better job than Halo 4.

Performance: 1080p / 60fps, Hell yes. What most console owners have been waiting for, and it looks absolutely stunning, from heavy firefights, to quiet moments to observe the scenery. And one thing Halo has always accomplished since Combat Evolved, is the little attention to detail, that if you notice it, makes you appreciate the little things. When participating in multiple matches online, I found that the playlist felt to little, but just right if that makes sense. All online games ran smooth and I did not experience the matchmaking problem that the Master Chief collection had experienced at launch. Excellent in my opinion.

Graphics: At 1080p / 60fps, I noticed zero screen tear or frame rate drop. A breath of fresh air honestly with newer First Person Shooters having small issues like this. Like I stated before, its the attention to detail that I love that 343 and Bungi have done with the series, that makes this series seem personal to the fans and developers. All in all a knock out of the park!

Story: Now this is something that I struggled with wrapping my head around. This series is about the Master Chief, now I know that there is deeper Lore to the series that probably follows different people, but when I played mostly as Spartan Locke and not the chief, I was disappointed. And even more disappointed in the marketing for this game. I was under the impression that Locke and the Chief were going to have an epic battle royal, the hunter is now the hunted, super "hush hush" sneaking around whilst battling the covenant missions. But this did not happen. AT ALL. Fairly disappointed.

Campaign: Now I played on Legendary difficulty on my first play through, and it took me roughly 15 Hours. Making me pleased with the length. But I know that if I played on Easy or Normal that the length of the Campaign would only be around 3-6 hours. A big No-No in my book. Since when did developers start slacking on the story length department? Now the last thing I was displeased with was the AI. Not the enemy AI, but the friendly AI. Now Halo games aren't known for the best AI, but when forced to play with 3 other characters that are apart of your "team" its crap. Literally the STUPIDEST part of the game. If I went down under heavy fire, EVERY team mate ran to pick me up, getting themselves killed, instead of 1 reviving me, and the other two providing heavy fire towards the enemy to keep their heads down to leave me ALONE. Not a reason to not buy the game, but definitely a frustration. And there's a enemy wave system incorporated here. No advancing the story unless wave after wave is killed. Disappointing and lazy in my opinion.

Multiplayer: Did I mention 1080p / 60fps? The multiplayer looks just as good as the campaign. The game modes are well balanced too. You have five modes with more to come. Arena (mixed game modes) Slayer (classic) Swat (another classic) Free for all (keeping it classy) and a new mode Breakout. Breakout is a 4v4 death match set up in rounds. Won either by capturing the one flag on the map, or killing everyone. Absolutely a blast with immense pressure when you're the only one left alive and your entire team is watching. Then there's Warzone. A mode in itself. 12v12 with NPC's, mini objectives of domination/slayer/ and score 1000points. Not something Ive played to much, but its well balanced. Now there's the REQ packs. Remember Titanfall? Remember the booster packs with perks? Its essentially the same thing. Now you earn req points through matches, or you can pay actual money. Your choice. The packs contain Skins for weapons, new armor, xp boosts, and weapons/vehicles for warzone.

Overall this is a good game and the multiplayer is well balanced with a long campaign if played on higher difficulties. Something that I will be coming back to later on.

As far as game performance goes, you can tell they listened to the vocal minority that is the "competitive' halo players. The game play is tight and you can tell the put a lot of effort into perfecting the multiplayer aspect of it.

I wish 343 had split this into two games. A top notch multiplayer FPS and a half baked story aimed at tweens. That way we could all just skip the campaign and play the multiplayer. But as it is, we are stuck with a product that has solid game play and serious potential as a multiplayer game, that is dragged down but a poorly executed campaign and a cringe worthy storyline.

Let me begin saying, I am a huge Halo fan. I have been playing Halo since Halo Combat Evolved. The series keeps winning me over. Halo 5 is an excellent game. The story was fun but the multiplayer is amazing! If you are a multiplayer driven individual this is the game for you!

I played this game hoping i would see a campaign lasting for days. I finished the game in 20 minutes. Maybe it is because i am the most elite player ever, but maybe the game is just a little bit short.

Technically, this game is very impressive as I never have encountered any frame rate drops. It stays locked at a rock solid 60 fps the whole time. The single player campaign isnt as long as I would've liked but it told a good story, and the twist at the end was great. Multiplayer is amazing in this installment, with warzone being my new favorite.

I cannot explain how horrendous this game is I finished the Story in 4 hours 4 HOURS no split screen makes it even worse! I bought an Xbox one ONLY for this game and they give me this crap? The multiplayer is fun at times. this is not the "Best Halo" its just a rushed out game. Thanks for ruining Halo, 343.

Campaign is bad, not only over hyped but completely different from what the trailers promote it as.

Multilayer is really good, well balanced, equal starts Spartan abilities fit perfectly. When forge and more casual game modes arrive it's probably going to become the best FPS multiplayer of the year

No local couch multiplayer. No forge mode either. The two best things about Halo 3 and Reach are gone. It's so sad to see these features removed. Just play Reach or Halo 3 if you want to play with your friends without playing online. Overall, the game is a bit over average and if Halo 6 evers shows up, let's hope these features return.

Jumped into the game after waiting years for it to install.

Started with the Campaign, like every Halo Player should. I start the Campaign as someone that isn't Master Chief? A bit different to start with. The gameplay during this mission was horrific and I didn't engage with the story. Tried to continue but the Campaign bored me to tears. The Multiplayer Arena was alright I guess,

The Multiplayer Arena was alright I guess, but anybody that's looking for Halo from 10 years ago, it's drastically changed. This isn't a nostalgia act anymore. If you hated Halo 4, you'll hate this one.

Warzone was pretty good. 1 Game mode doesn't keep a game fun for long though.

    Pros:
    Stunning Graphics
    Fairly long campaign
    Difficult and more satisfying (Legendary)
    Extremely smooth movements

    Con:
    Master Chief?

Multiplayer: It was rather disappointing that 343 got rid of split-screen coop. Some of the best memories from any Halo game was playing with some buddies on the same TV. Other than that, Halo 5 shows off with maybe the strongest multiplayer since Halo: Reach. Still have traditional game types such as: Team Slayer, Big Team Battle, SWAT, etc. 343 also just launched Warzone, with is the strongest and more popular section of the multiplayer.

    Pros:
    Warzone
    Traditional game types
    Extremely smooth
Little to no frame rate dips
    Very competitive (also a con)
    Every weapon is useful

    Cons:
    No split-screen

    Breakdown:

Campaign: +2/2 (For what the campaign was, it was nearly flawless)
    Graphics: +2/2 (60fps. Absolutely beautiful)
Matchmaking: +2/2 (Best since Halo: Reach)
Replay ability: +2/2 (The campaign, matchmaking, collectibles will have you busy for a long time)
Mechanics: +2/2 (The game functions flawlessly, all player movements are incredibly smooth)

Total: +10/10 (Halo 5 isn't "perfect" but for what the game is and what it offers it's an incredible game)

Some missions are so short and if i remember correctly, there was even a mission where the player walked to a point, experienced a cut scene and that was it. Not to mention, only 2-3 missions involve blue team, and their 'close bonds' aren't necessarily seen at all. It seemed more like endless 'we believe in you Chief' type of stuff, like that 10 year old cousin who follows everything you do and say. It is enjoyable, but some missions do feel repetitive. It does tutor you with the new moves and having other team mates around you can be helpful and a bit of fun. The look, feel and framerate are as good as any other AAA titles to this day, if not better. Everything looks stunning and soundtracks are nods to older titles.

The multiplayer is COMPLETE PERFECTION. It is smooth, the game modes are good but lacking and this is where 343i clearly put their effort in. Not to mention free DLC will be added for a long period past launch. The requisition system is satisfying, however often feels like it is done just to make money as they can be purchased with real money, not in game currency. However, all money made is being added to the 1 million dollar prize pool for the Halo Championships in early 2016. Warzone is fun and the new mode called breakout is a sick mode that keeps my heart racing.

The interface of the whole game is great, it is easy to find what you are looking for and takes only 5 minutes to have it down-packed. Overall, it is definitely worth buying. :)

In the biggest attraction, Warzone, weapons and vehicles don't spawn on map. You have to get territories and kills to get anything other than loadouts. The graphics are significantly better than the previous halo games, so that's a plus. Then again, I've upgraded to a 4K TV from an old 768p TV, so that may be it. Wouldn't be surprised

What they did that I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't like and makes this game have me grind my teeth instead of have fun is that the gameplay is so much different.

They made maximum ammo close to nothing because you've always got a squad with you or because you don't live long enough to use it in multiplayer.
They made the player's hitpoints close to nothing. The damage tables are also unfing reasonably unbalanced You get two shotted by BR's, three shotted by plasma pistols, instantly killed by melees from elites and hunters (when you could ALMOST ALWAYS survive at least one melee, even on legenday) and it's no better on normal and easy, you can take maybe 3-4 shots of any weapon when at full shields before dying, but thank heavens you can survive two spartan bashes, three clips of the assault rifle, and being rammed head on with a ghost and still have shields left because it makes total sense. Also thank god it only takes two of those $28 grenades to destroy a $47,500,000 scorpion tank (if you read the lore, that's what it costs to make them).
They also added a zoom feature on all the weapons. I'm not going to lie, I like the idea of it. I like the design of almost all of the zoomes. What I hate more than Call of Duty and drives me crazy enough to want to bash my head into the wall is whenever you take damage, it unzoomes.

Overall 0/10. They did long time Halo fans a severe disservice by trying to copy TERA, COD, and Destiny with this one.

In this whole mess master chief and Cortana were the dynamic sometimes funny duo that made you believe that there was a chance for the survival of mankind in the end.

Ever since Halo Reach that has changed.
In Halo reach 343 introduced a couple of shallow uninteresting characters, barely more than mounts for guns that were if they ever said something plainly talking annoying ****

My point is since Halo Reach every new Halo had a more dumbed down story.
A believable story transported by some likeable characters is all i ask for.
But since 343 has taken the responsibility of expanding the Halo Universe this is not happening anymore.
The short film series, the recent games and now this product of marketing research are just plain dumb and this bores me.

I dont care for a group 4 posers constantly blabbering **** and raising their eyebrows called team Osiris.
Although the Team Blue characters are not really introduced to the player they are more sympathetic because they are not posing idiot ****

The gameplay is fun though. Nothing special at all, a good all level based FPS. A little to easy at times and even boring as hell sometimes (warden eternal on legendary ...).

I would recommend this game to someone who really dislikes the first Halo. Someone who only plays casually and doesn't look for a challenge.

So for all you Far Cry, CoD, Battlefield, Battlefront players out there this might be fun to you.

To anyone who wants another Halo, forget it its not going to Happen.

The story has always been captivating and original, but this latest campaign feels like something out of a mediocre sci-fi movie. The lack of chief is also disappointing. The maps are all very well designed but since only a few maps were given to warzone and then a few more were breakout specific there is not a ton of map variety while playing. There is also a lack of game modes. Though the free content updates coming such battle of shadow and light bringing btb and four maps are sure to negate this over time. Quite the opposite. 343 gave us a pain free launch. I’ve seen a lot of talk that Destiny is the best shooter out right now, but it has devolved into a blatant cash grab. And the multiplayer is a laggy mess. No thanks. COD is stale, and it’s arcady, campy gameplay appeals to the bottom denominator. For gamers sick of the COD, Destiny, and Battlefield bandwagon, Halo 5 is a solid alternative.

There’s a caveat. People not versed in Halo lore will be lost playing the campaign. But I didn’t buy Halo 5 to play the campaign because it’s overrated. I purchased H5 for the multiplayer.

Will Halo fans like the campaign? Maybe. Reactions will be mixed for sure. Halo fans have been completely inconsolable since 343 took over the franchise. So I’m sure many fans will launch into “worse Halo ever” rants. The campaign is OK, but it verges on uninspiring. With the exception of franchises like Fallout, Bioshock, and Half-Life, shooters are poor mediums to tell stories. If I rated H5 on just story, my final score would be much lower. That said, it’s still better than the trash Activision throws at us.

The campaign features co-op, so friends can enjoy it together. Be warned Halo fanboys(and girls), there is no split screen. 343 announced that Halo 5 would not feature it months before launch. So this isn’t news. I’m surprised how many gamers purchased H5 not knowing this. The lack of split screen isn’t a deal breaker since a proportionally small number of people use it.

H5’s graphics are unimpressive. It suffers from screen tearing and aliasing. Shadows are jagged. Textures are low quality. Pop in’s plague environs. Visually, H5 isn’t an improvement over Halo 4 except for one big difference: Halo 5 hits 60 frames per second. All 360 versions of Halo were 30fps. Competitive games perform better at higher frames, and 343 desperately wants Halo to reemerge as the de facto gold standard for competitive console gaming. There’s no doubt that visual sacrifices were necessary to maintain that level of performance. Still, Halo 5 doesn’t look all that great. The “dynamic” adjustments 343 talks about come with big sacrifices in graphic fidelity that are evident to anyone who plays it. The lack of split screen is another sacrifice.

Despite the above, H5 runs silky smooth. From a performance perspective, H5 is the best multiplayer experience on nextgen. Hit detection is accurate and consistent. Framerates hold steady, even in larger game modes. The move to full-time dedicated servers was the right choice, and ALL developers should be making that move. But servers are only as good as the netcode, and H5 delivers there too. In comparison to all the other major fps titles on nextgen, none rival H5 in performance or hit detection.

How about multiplayer? Well, it’s good. Darn good. For players wanting a casual shooter, don’t play here. H5 is brutal and the skill gap is much wider than COD. The gripes I’ve read about gun balance, spawns, etc. are over exaggerated. Those players want to complain because they couldn’t score 30 kills a game on day one. So they blame the game, not their lack of skill and patience.

H5’s multiplayer is divided into 2 modes: Arena and Warzone. Arena is reminiscent of older Halo’s. All play is ranked play. All players start with the same weapons and abilities. Power weapons spawn at set points on the map. Controlling these points can turn the tide of every match. There’s no voting. Penalties are imposed for quitting early among other things.

Breakout is the best game mode. It combines some round-based, tactical play with player elimination. So if a player dies in a round, he can’t respawn until the next round. Old school gamers will like this mode because it relies on precision, tactics, and teamwork. COD run and gun tryhards will hate it. In fact, the ones I’ve talked to do. That’s OK, Halo 5 is for the adults.

The much hyped Warzone is OK, but AI enemies are sparse and nothing more than bullet sponges. Titanfall is still king of this style game mode. I prefer Warzone Assault which dumps the enemy AI, so it’s more like Big Team Slayer.

The REQ system allows players to purchase/earn powerups for the Warzone mode only. Perks are easy enough to earn without spending real money. Perks can’t be used in Arena.

Of course the biggest perk is free DLC!! A grossly underrated novelty by Halo fans. Since launch, 343 has already released new maps and game mode.

My verdict on H5? It’s the best game multiplayer game on Xbox One because it focuses on things that matter: Connectivity, performance, and balance. Butthurt Halo fans need to shut up. H5 may not be the prettiest car on the strip, but its mp performance is second to none. 343 showed us it’s willing to learn and delivered the most balanced, competitive multiplayer on consoles I’ve seen in years

Overall, I was not impressed with the campaign, and halo has always been primarily about single player story for me. I didn't see much of a problem with having a cliffhanger ending, there is nothing wrong really with having a cliffhanger in the middle of a trilogy.

The removal of Co-Op was something that I didn't really like either, but I wasn't surprised really. People claiming 343 just blindsided them by removing Co-Op "with out any warning" are just lying. 343 said like 1 or a bit over 1 month before the game released that the game would not feature Co-Op, because they were more interested in locking the game in 60 FPS, and it would be impossible to allow that and add Co-Op. 1 month is more than enough time to decide if the removal of Co-Op would be a deciding factor when buying this. If you decided to not do any sort of research before spending $60, well, whose fault is that?

That said, the multiplayer is where this game really shines. I don't think I've had this much fun in a halo MP since the halo 2 days. It's fast and fluid, and the new spartan abilities (not to be confused with those god awful armor abilities reach added and 4 "tried" to fix) give the game a new layer of overall strategy.

Sure, they added some features, like ADS and kept sprint there, but this game is nothing like CoD like many people seem to enjoy screaming every time this game is brought up. If you play this game like CoD, you will die, a lot. You still need to be fast moving and skillful when shooting people, and one-on-one battle don't end with the person that fist shot the other person (like CoD), the kill goes to the one with the most skill.

Warzone is a little fun addition, thought not a big fan of the micro transactions they decided to add, and the overall feeling of pay-to-win (people argue it isn't, but it is, it's not that hard to level up REQ levels when playing a match, before long, people with the biggest wallet will be easily noticeable when they get 4 or 5 tanks in a row) thought if I have to choose between optional Micro Transactions that only affect one game type, over free DLC maps, I say keep the micro transactions, specially with the addition of Big Team battle soon.

Overall, this game only really shines with its MP. Single player alone is not worth the $60 price tag, which I would have said differently for Halo 1, 2, 3, or even Reach and 4. And the fact that some of the more fun features (forge and community made gametypes/maps) are coming in December, you may be better off waiting this one out.

very well made based on the character you play. The result is a very good new Generation Halo Gameplay.

    Audio: 8/10
Well, the soundtrack isn't amazing as the old Halos. 1/2 song are very great (like "Blue Team"), but nothing is like "Never Forget" or the classic Halo theme. Nothing will be a "masterpiece" that everyone will remember.
The sound effects of weapons and campaign are well made. It took me a bit of time to adapt at the "shield down" sound, I found it very irritating at first.

    Graphics : 7/10
Well, Grapichs are good. Noways toh, many game do much better than Halo. 343i said the game would show all the performances of the Xbox One, and to be honest, isn't by far the most good looking game.
Anyway, it's still beautiful ^^ just not as much as they said.

    Campaign: 6/10
Well, I'm a big fan of Halo, i read the books, and played all campaigns, listen to the #HuntTheTruth... The campaigns is somewhat frustrating. It's a bit of a mess, and very short.
I mean, It go from A to B without a big plot twist, the missions are not memorable, expect the wardens fight (ctrl+c / ctrl+v) many missions are the sames.
"The Greatest Hunt" was very little, the contact between Blue Team and Osiris were rushed. If you haven't read the book, you will find 0 personality on Linda/Fred/Kelly or the Buck/Vale/Tanaka
Basically if you want a good Halo plot, the #HuntTheTruth serie is by far better. Playing that campaign made me feel like it is the part 1 of something, and it's shouldn't...
Now if we talk gameplay in the campaign... personally was very very tired (in legendary) to play forerunner all the time and having 3 kind of enemies over and over for like 7/8 levels...
There are mission that are 2 minutes longs (2 I think) where you jsut talk to a guy or go to a waypoint and it's finished...
The friendly AI are retard, they get stuck, can't revive you sometimes, if you give them order like "kill him" they rush in the middle and die, they are useless asf, and sometimes they made me so mad...
Play the campaign with 4 mates if you want a good experience

    Multiplayer 9/10:
Arena : This is the big and best part of Halo 5. The game is now clean like the olds one. No perks, No special guns, everyone start the same way with the same load-outs and have to build their advantages.
The maps are great, not amazing but great, the guns balanced (pistol maybe a bit op), the gameplay nice and the game very skill based. You have the ranked playlist with the new ranking system,
that I found good, and the new Breakout mode is very nice with symmetrical arena map. I very enjoyed Arena.
Warzone : A very fun gamemode to play when you have some time and don't wan't to play Arena. The Req system is perfect, the better you do the stronger you become. The map are not that big, but I thinks are perfect for the 12v12.
The score system makes the game very opens until the last boss spawn, you can make awesome comeback.
XP/REQ : Well, they did the best choice with that, you play and win req point => after 3/4 game you can buy a gold pack with cosmetic/guns/perks items. You can everything on Warzone but only Cosmetic in Arena which is the good choice.
You can also buy req pack, and this will finance all the free DLC. The best economic system you can do.

    Conclusion :

I love what 343 is doing with Halo, even if I think they put to much investment in the marketing campaign (with Hunt The Truth, The Sprints, the new books...) and not enough in the game to make it THE BEST HALO EVER.
With a longer campaign with a better built story I think it would have been. On the Multiplayer side, I think this is my favorite Halo so far (and I didn't loved Halo 4 that much.)

Awesome game, the campaign sucks but the multiplayer is awesome and the graphics are really good too. However many people are mad because of there is no split screen, which is fine with me since i dont use it BUT i know theres a lot of people that loves it so thats why the game is a solid 8 for me.

Minus one for solo campaign. Co-op is great. The multiplayer is the greatest Halo multiplayer yet. And I have been playing Halo games non-stop since Halo: CE on the original Xbox, been to conventions, collectible, novels, etc. The MP is so, so good. Did I mention how good Arena is?

Now don't get me wrong the game is great but it is missing so much. Where is big team battle and infection? Griffball and the other really fun game modes? They said forge will be released in December because they want to put time into it. Why don't you release the game with everything in the package and not leave one of the most used modes in Halo history. The campaign is a let down as well. The story is mediocre and the only thing keeping me interested was the really well done cutscenes and some of the great moments that occasionally happen during the story. And the marketing did not show what the story actually is, it showed a exaggerated version of what the actual story is. The multiplayer in general is good. Breakout is a great addition to the classic Halo game modes and all of the normal Halo game modes are there apart from big team battle. Which has been replaced by Warzone, which for me alright. There are now AI on the battlefield and you have to capture bases and then destroy the enemy core. Now this is all well and good until you find out how to get weapons and vehicles. You have to open packs. And there are micro transactions now. Great one 343. And to get armor you have to get them from packs. No unlocks or anything. No rank system either. But there are some great editions to the gameplay of Halo 5. You can now stop in the air when you aim so it is easier to get enemies. And you can now aim down your sights. Overall Halo 5 is a fun game that has flaws and needs to improve. When they add forge and big team battle which they are apparently adding, then the game will get a higher score. And add infection and griffball while your at it. It's not what I was expecting but I still enjoyed it and there is room for improvement. 7.5/10 Expand

+Online offers a lot of more game modes, Breakout, War zone and a little more.
~The campaign was good, but didn't offer what I thought it would.
~The main source of game play is still basically still point and shoot, and duck behind cover when you are injured. The game does offer more then it did before, but still points to point and shoot.
-The advertising focused WAY to much on Locke hunting Chief which the campaign did not really offer that much on it.
-Where the heck are the Halo's?
-The campaign was way to short.
-The game doesn't offer much other then the campaign and multi player which could be a make or break for you.
-The multi player can be like banging your head against the wall.
Now like I said this is the best FPS I have played in years. But I will look past my nostalgia and say that if you liked Halo or want to try it out, this game would be a good sequel or a good place to start. But if you don't like FPS that much, or don't like Halo this game will probably not carry it for you, wait for Halo 6, if you want a game that will offer a lot more then this.

The whole Locke hunting Master Chief was such an interesting concept but they did fail to deliver. Also the levels do not seem as expansive/large as previous Halos.

There is no denying Halo 5 is a great game, you will have a lot of fun playing the game, the missions are great and the ending sequence is fantastic, and the cliffhanger is incredible by setting Halo 6 for a massive finale. Online multiplayer is also much better than Halo 4 which is a plus.

The campaign is actually quite good but stumbles a bit due to the narrative being gargled for the first 1/3 of the game. The feud between Master Chief and Locke (under the orders of ONI) is the huge buildup to this game, which makes it curious why it was so quickly solved in the campaign. The rest of the story ends up being a gem and, without spoiling it, sets up Halo 6 to be the most epic Halo ever (very similarly to the way Mass Effect 2 setup Mass Effect 3). I can't help but like how thing ended up on this end, especially with a great feature in 4-player online co-op (though there's no split-screen). The campaign is a bit short (7.5 hrs on Heroic for me, solo), which is a negative. Had the marketed focal point of this Halo game been explored more, this would have been hands-down the best Halo ever made. As for the multiplayer, it's good. Compared to the campaign, you can feel a bit of drag in the movement systems. They're seemingly slowed a bit, so it might take you a little while to adjust. Once you've spent enough time on this side of the game you will feel more adjusted. Speaking of adjustments, 343 definitely tweaked the aiming system of the game. It doesn't have that nice gliding snap-to aiming of Call of Duty nor does it have the more precise feeling of earlier Halo games. 343 have apparently made the ADS (aim down sight) function require practice before mastering. That's fine, but it took me a week to really get the hang of it. Now I do fairly well in MP. The new REQ system acts like Titanfall's burn cards, earned through all multiplayer and awarded through card packs that are earned through achievements on the battlefield. It's a cool system. Someone that doesn't go all-out on their best cards at a moments notice will can store up quite the arsenal and change the battlefield single-handedly in some cases. But the REQ level system put into play during the games themselves prevents rare cards that are clearly more powerful than 95% of what's available on the battlefield from being abused. So there's balance. There's also a small micro-transaction option to quickly attain more REQ packs, but this only ups the number of cards you can pick up. They don't change the game landscape as everything is random (so you could spend $25 and only pick up a few really good items/vehicles to work with). These micro-transactions are probably a big part of why the DLC for Halo 5 is all free. That's right, not a single dime will be spent getting new maps, game modes, etc. Speaking of those things, the map rotation is a little light @ launch, but amazingly 343 Industries has already readied a map pack for rollout 3 weeks after launch. These kind of regular DLC packs are fully expected and are partially community-based through Forge creations. The first DLC pack is bringing in the Big Team Battle on top of a few new maps. Warzone is where you play the REQ cards, a 12v12 battleground that mixes in some computer enemies that can help a losing team rally when getting tossed around player-to-player. It always keeps a team in the game until the very last point needed is scored. Arena is your 4v4 variant and, surprisingly, isn't the strong suit of this game anymore. Heavy competitors will still lean toward the smaller player sets, but Warzone commands the most attention as you can take up to 11 of your friends along with you. In the end, Halo 5 is a good game that missed a few marks from making it an amazing game. Critics averaged around an ~85 metascore, and I think that's where this game belongs. It stands out in a season of big-name shooters (Fallout 4, Black Ops 3, SW Battlefront) as one of the better options (obviously, Fallout 4 is going to edge out Halo). I really had to hang with the game for a bit, but once I got a fireteam of 5 other friends together to hit up Warzone, I was glad I purchased this game. It won't keep me from thinking "what if", but there's still one more Halo game to prove that 343 Industries have always been capable of carrying the Halo mantle. Perhaps the greatest mystery and the biggest opportunities is thinking about what comes next for Halo once this story is settled? Expand

Couple of complaints like how 343 lied and made you think the story was gonna be like the trailers, the story itself had a good plot but weak overall (probably worst story out of the halos) now its graphics are solid and the gameplay itself is funny fun. Multiplayer gameplay is AMAZING its just the lack of content and story drops it a few points.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Basically just an extremely underwhelming disappointment.

For starters all the advertisements pushing a conflict between MC and Locke...that doesn't happen. Not really. Locke and his team do go after Chief but that conflict lasts all of one mission only to be immediately dropped. While that was annoying I wouldn't have minded if the story we did get was any good...which it isn't. Most of the cast are utterly bland with no charisma or interesting dialog, with only Buck and a new Monitor providing any sort of relief. Cortana as the new villain is spoiled early on, making me expect a twist, but there isn't. This turn came out of left field for me, doubly so because the previous villain (the Didact) was killed between games which is never explained in this game. You wouldn't even know unless you kept up with all the ancillary media lore. That is inexcusable to me and is a failure in story writing. Not that the rest of the writing is any better, with no real explanation why Cortana was chosen, why she wants to rule the galaxy with an iron fist, or anything else really. I'm willing to overlook the some plot holes but you have to give me something decent to work with.

As for the gameplay...well...it's mostly solid but with some big problems dragging it down. Shooting and such still feels pretty good and easy even with the changes they made. Aiming down sights is nice though you can get by just fine without using it most the time. Same with the ground slams and dashes. Switching to a team focus over being a solo affair is the first big issue,at least when playing alone. Let's be honest the friendly AI has never been good (read:brain-dead incompetent) but at least they were never a liability. Now you are forced to drag the morons along with you the entire campaign. Most of the time they are just unhelpful and be ignored since thankfully if they die it doesn't count against you. Where it REALLY sticks in my craw is during the numerous "boss fights" (for lack of a better term) against the exact same copy/paste enemy who can one hit kill and requires being shot in the back. You can only issue a laughable two commands (ie "attack this" and "go here") neither of which helps your clueless team do anything actually helpful. Oh and when you get downed don't worry, they will never fail to blindly run right into enemies and probably get killed. Sure all of that is mitigated by playing with other people, but it makes playing solo one of the worst game experiences of my life.

Oh and speaking of the copy/paste boss, that is without a doubt the absolute worst part of the game. An utter failure of game design as it is blatantly lazy and cheap. It only poses a challenge due to poor team AI when trying to solo it. They reuse way too much. Making you fight multiple at once and/or with minion support is the only way they can think to increase the challenge. Even when playing with a friend it was still not fun or interesting, it just didn't take us as long. This is the kind of thing I expect from first year game design students not supposed professionals. To everyone involved with making the Warden fights, you are an absolute failure at game design, and as someone who rarely gets personal when judging a game that is not something I say lightly.

Not that the rest is anything great either. The whole game felt like it was just going through the motions. It looks nice enough and is sure to appeal to the multiplayer/co-op crowd. But for me even with modest expectations it was a pretty big disappointment.

I loved Frank O'Connor and his work at Official Xbox Magazine while you were still a baby. He was so funny. He was larger than life and a really cool dude. The best day of the month was the day a magazine arrived on the doorstep of our home in the woods of Alabama. Even a quarter page snippet about what was coming in Halo 2 would have me excited for weeks. Each new gun they announced had me dreaming. I cut out screenshots of Elites and Master Chief and taped them inside my high school locker. I didn't care that they had been super enlarged beyond their native resolution so they could cover a magazine page, and now they looked all pixely. I didn't even know what resolution was back then.

I loved your forefather, Bungie, and his beautiful works of art. I still remember the day that I played Halo for the very first time. I went over to my Aunt's house, and my cousin showed me his new Xbox. He started a new Halo co-op campaign, and we played for hours. Halo was the sole reason I ended my near 10 year gaming relationship with Nintendo and bought an Xbox instead of a Gamecube. We started a weekly LAN party at my house, and we played Halo splitscreen multiplayer every Thursday night. I still remember Tower of Power on Ascension. We had custom names for all our custom game modes. We made SWAT before SWAT was a thing. We called it Realistic. My dad loved the Scorpion tanks on Blood Gulch. He couldn't run and look around as fast as my brother and I, but if he got in a tank, he was happy. Mom would even play sometimes too. Her name was "EvilMomlady", lovingly given in honor of Calvin and Hobbes' Mom.

Back when I was a cool kid creating all my usernames on the Internets, I chose usernames that declared my love and dedication to halo. Its kinda embarrassing now, and I've tried to change most of them to be more "professional". Earlier this year, a software client wanted to use Skype for a group meeting. When we had setup the chat room, apparently my old Skype handle came through instead of my current Microsoft account name, and the client asked, who is "dude4halo"? I had to sheepishly own that one.

I bought every single Halo soundtrack that Marty O'Donnell made. They were incredible. They showed me how awesome orchestral and classical music can be. Another cousin and I would listen to them every time we rode in his car. He built a subwoofer in his trunk, and when we listened to Covenant Dance we almost peed our pants. The music was peaceful and beautiful, stirring and exciting.

I read every Halo book for a long time. They were my favorite science fiction for years. Eric Nylund's storytelling was amazing.

Starting with Halo 2, we began a tradition of picking up each new Halo game at midnight as soon as it was released. Our goal was to get as many people together as we could to huddle around and play the co-op on Legendary. We tried to beat the game before sunrise. We've continued the tradition to this day.
But now, I'm afraid that this good thing must come to an end. It appears that so many things are changing. The split-screen, the music, the main character, the big team battles loaded with vehicles, the forge... So many of the things I loved about Halo are now just... dust and echoes. There is certainly a chance for a reclaimer, but now, I feel that I must look elsewhere. Farewell Halo. I hope we meet again someday. Maybe we can relive the glorious times of our past.

The plot is pure crap, they should've grabbed the writer currently working on the Halo comics. Brian Reed really just sucks at telling a story (Halo4 had a crap story too, and he was co-writing).

Now for the saving grace of this game, the online portion. Here's where all the good things can be found. I like how REQ packs work and that I dont have to wade through crappy microtransactions to obtain them (although the option is still there, which personally kinda blows). My time with the usual TDM and CTF matches have been a blast, but Warzones is really what surpassed my expectations.

Overall, a slightly above average game. It could've been better if they nixed my team of blind brainless mice and replaced them with local co-op. And if they made clambering and dodging much more responsive, and actually fun to pull off.

Saw all of the great reviews and expected this to be the GOTY or something. So I rented it to play some multiplayer and glad I did before purchasing the game. This was a frustrating experience at the very least and throw the controller across the room at best. The graphics are great and the movement/melee system is good but my god, can we get some kills please! Here's how it goes: SneakSaw all of the great reviews and expected this to be the GOTY or something. So I rented it to play some multiplayer and glad I did before purchasing the game. This was a frustrating experience at the very least and throw the controller across the room at best. The graphics are great and the movement/melee system is good but my god, can we get some kills please! Here's how it goes: Sneak up on an enemy, shoot him, shoot him some more, empty my ENTIRE Assault Rifle clip into him, then switch to my pistol, then oh, he turns around and hits me with one shot and I'm dead. Give me a break!!! Then respawn, take five steps and die from some Battle Rifle shot from across the map. In Slayer the scores were consistently 15-20 kills by a couple of players and 5-6 kills by the other two players (like me). This is pathetic and I don't know how anybody could consider this enjoyable. Maybe I've played too much COD but at least you get a MUCH more balanced set of scoring overall with players. And you can even just jump into a game and probably get 8-10 kills starting off. At least with that you feel like you've achieved something there and it keeps you captivated. With this game you feel like you're being cheated out of kills and I couldn't wait to turn the game off. Good luck to you Halo fans but this game will NOT be in my inventory. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So these are aspects to the game I feel are worth mentioning ( these are based off of my opinion so expect bias. Also, I"m not a good writer)

Multiplayer. As always, Halo is a fun multiplayer game. I especially like their new game-type Warzone and Warzone Assault (which reminds of me of Reach's Invasion). Breakout isn't half bad either. Furthermore, I think the mobility adds a new twist to the game (over time, it'd be cool if 343 could allow us to toggle these on and off if we want to play old school). That being said, I'm upset that veto's aren't an option. I'm getting really bored of playing Swatnums and not being able to object to this. Also, I'm not too crazy about gradually adding in game-modes like Big Team Battle and Flood (hopefully). Also, WHAT HAPPENED TO SPLIT SCREEN????? I grew up playing with friends and family at my house. This (I think) is the first Halo Shooter to not offer splitscreen (I said shooter because I forgot if Halo Wars had splitscreen). To summarize, there are new improvements to keep the multiplayer fresh, but there are also missing essentials that made Halo exemplary(mainly split-screen). Hopefully with time, 343 will improve on this.

Campaign. Okay, so I'm curious what happened here. Not only was the campaign uncharacteristically short, but it felt rushed. I always knew that this game was going to be multiplayer heavy, but this was disappointing. I was expecting some kind of battle between Chief and Locke, not an anticlimactic cut scene that lasted for 4 minutes. Moreover, why couldn't they better explain what happened to Cortana? So to wrap this up, the campaign is a mere shell of what it could have been, because it lacks depth.

Forge. So obviously I can't talk a lot about this because it has not come out yet. Personally, I'm willing to wait for forge as long as it gives what 343 says it will offer.

Req Packs: I like this new concept. It's new, and it keeps me wanting to get more.

So finally, if you're looking for a fun multiplayer experience with friends over xbox, then Halo 5 is for you. Otherwise think it over.

The story line was WAY TO SHORT AND MISLEADING!! Please tell me how you can have a trailer about Locke and Chief going against each other, and yet its not even really like that. Threw me way off. The ending was horrible, (reminded me of the ending in mass effect 3 BUT mass effect 3 was wayyy better) We came up with a better story for the 5th Halo form our hypothesis based off the trailer.

Hey Microsoft if you are looking for some help on a better story/ending hit me up I got you.

343 continues to expand upon the classic Halo formula in order to leave their mark on the series. While not quite the huge evolution for the series it was touted, there is enough new here to keep the Halo series relevant after all these years.

From a technical standpoint the game is very impressive. It's not the best looking game on Xbox One, but everything runs exactly like it should and the campaign still looks pretty darn great with plenty of detail in the world. The graphics do take a hit in the transition to multiplayer, but you'll be too busy playing to really care about the blander environments. I've encountered no connectivity issues and there is no lag to be seen. This is a buttery smooth FPS in every aspect.

The controls are just are tighter than ever. There's no more clicking a thumb-stick to bring up a score. Zoom in functions have been mapped to the left trigger, moving grenades to the right shoulder button. It takes a little bit of getting used to for the classic Halo fans, but it doesn't take long to click at all. When it does the gameplay has never felt more intuitive.

The campaign is much larger in level design in order to compensate for the expanded emphasis on four-player co-op. A feature only slightly tarnished due to the non-inclusion of split-screen. The design allows you to approach situations in any way you see fit. Plenty of secret passages and hidden power weapons can be found that allow you to get ahead of the enemies. For the first time in the series I was giving genuine thought to my position on the battlefield, and the benefits of taking the higher or lower ground. These are some of the best level layouts in the series in my opinion.

The increase in size also allows for bigger battles comprised of multiple enemy types appearing onscreen at once. The fights feel massive as you overtake enemies coming in from numerous locations at once. The "Promethean" finally feel distinct enough to feel legitimately different from the Covenant. Another cool thing about the campaign is that almost every weapon feels like a viable option on the battlefield. The series has always had some weapons that just felt useless. That is rarely the case here.

All of these elements come together to form a campaign with impressive scale that will provide moments of genuine and exciting cooperative and solo strategy. From a gameplay standpoint the game nails it and this might be my new favorite Halo campaign. It also marks the return to form for Halo storytelling. The 3rd and 4th Halo had stories that just made no sense and dove into complete and utter sci-fi nonsense that made no sense and wasn't really explained. Halo 5's story is much more comprehensible. It's the first time I've been able to understand and follow a story in the main series since Halo 2. It even has some of the emotional core that made up Halo 4. The only downside is the ending. There's not a real sense of conclusion to the events the story. Obviously I was expecting it to still keep things open for the sequel, but I wasn't expecting the game to just end abruptly like it did.

Multiplayer is just as addictive as ever. However some of the changes to the formula are kind of controversial and will rub some the wrong way. The new Warzone mode makes use of what the game calls "Requisition Packs." These packs give you cards that allow you to bring in things like more powerful weapons and vehicles in the middle of a match by the means of a recharging energy-like system. In order to get these packs you have to either collect in-game currency by playing matches or buy them with real money through microtransactions. The microtransactions are completely ignorable and don't make this a pay to win experience. However it is still irritating to see the game's biggest new mode tied to this system.

It does little to diminish the enjoyment the mode can bring though. Warzone's big battles feature multiple objectives that pop up over the course of the match. Capturing bases, defeating A.I. bosses, and of course killing enemies all give your team points. First team to reach the limit wins. However if your team manages to capture all of the bases and expose the enemies core in their home base, then you can destroy it and pull of an instant win. The great thing about this mode is that no matter how you choose to participate, be it stealing bases or just popping other players, you are contributing to the overall goal of your team.

"Arena" just offers a way for players to jump into some of the series' traditional modes. "Team Arena" allows players to jump into a playlist with constantly changing modes and maps.

With incredibly addicting multiplayer, a strong campaign, and excellent gameplay the series makes a strong first main entry on Xbox One. Some disappointments are noticeable and some changes lackluster, but this is still a must play for longtime fans and newcomers alike. Even in an overcrowded sea of FPS games Halo still manages to stand out.

Campaign - 4/10 Multiplayer - 8/10 The campaign, while visually appealing, is focused more on the new character Locke rather than the fan favorite Master Chief. It also fails completely to deliver any sense of "chase" or such between the two main groups in the game. The advertising gave us an impression of something that just never came to pass.

It also fails completely to deliver any sense of "chase" or such between the two main groups in the game. The advertising gave us an impression of something that just never came to pass.

The multiplayer however, is a major leap forward for 343. After the horrendous issues with the launch of the Master Chief Collection and the terrible reception of Halo 4, 343 seems to have finally hit their stride when it comes to multiplayer Halo. For those that want classes and crazy Call of Duty gameplay there's Warzone. While the more hardcore players can jump into Arena for some classic and satisfying small team PVP. I haven't enjoyed PVP this much in a Halo game since Halo 3, and it seems my patience has paid off.

Social playlists are desperately needed however to filter the casual masses from the more hardcore sections of the community. The lack of social playlists and the seeming broken ranking system are the only reasons why I didn't give the multiplayer a 10/10.

In short, the campaign is barely capable while the multiplayer shines brighter than anything 343 has produced to date. I hope to teabag you on the battlefield spartan.

    Happy with Halo again,

The problem I have with the game is a lot of the Halo element was removed, nothing remains stagnant forever but I just do not find a lot of that Halo feeling in the game. Game play is far from the Classic Halo we were promised through the BETA (still great but an epic failure promising classic style game play) and it seems 343 went out of their way to change things that really did not need to be and then failed to acknowledge what their fans asked for in a years time since the BETA. For example sounds of the weapons and vehicles (hang whoever changed the warthog engine sound) which are in a sense minuscule but then we have the herculean mistake of adding ADS (aim down sights). Adding ADS is probably the worst decision made in the game. ADS simply does not belong in Halo, especially the atrocious, half-executed, flinch friendly version the game is currently sporting. ADS is useless for 80% of the weapons in the game, and on the weapons you think you found a use for it on you're much better off firing in traditional Halo Style anyway since you'll flinch and none of the maps are really big enough to need it. The ADS system in this game is at best a broken excuse for the scoping mechanism in the past games. So all in all a great game, but for a die hard Halo fan you will find plenty of disappointment, some of it you will get over and some of it you will accept as a the Halo universe being destroyed and assimilated into another dime a dozen COD, Titanfall, and Battlefield shooter designed to exploit a previously flawlessly executed series that is now nothing more than a cash cow.

Halo started to fall off the rails after bungie sold out to 343, Halo 4 was a massive dissapointment that strayed away from the core aspect of what made Halo 'fun' so much that it's not even in the same star cluster anymore, the thing about the Halo franchise that I loved so much was the LORE, I currently own all of the novels that are considered cannon and I just love the covenant Hierarchy, but in this game it just destroys the lore in place of a 2 dimensional story. Halo just needs to die now, it pains me to watch this incompetent studio flail thier arms trying to make a game, Micro$oft needs to just pull the plug on this entire thing.

also I have a particularly strong greivance with the gameplay, why is there ADS and other flat COD elements in this game now? Rediculous 343, just kill the series, don't make us fans have to painfully sit through another Halo,

However the story is poorly written sure 343 have acknowledged the lore of halo but it doesn't make up for bad writing a plot twists that aren't congruent with the Halo universe and neither does Nathan Fillion with all his charming roguishness. The overall length of the campaign is poor although there are 15 levels 2 of them are just talking to people it shouldn't take more than 4 - 5 hours to complete. The level design is better but still no levels seem iconic or even memorable, there are no flood or brutes and very few covenant levels leaving us to battle the Prometheans t this time around they are much better enemies to fight and no but sadly still not that fun or engaging. The campaign frequently forces you to pick up Promethean weapons like the suppressor and boltshot guns which have heavy auto aiming features and it just kind of feels like the games holding your hand. In multiplayer mode the lack of splitscreen options is disappointing as well as the lack of arena game modes missing out lots of standard Halo game types like big team battle, doubles, zombies, multi team, invasion i could go on. The multiplayer maps seem like they repeat and all tend to feel similar to each other again nothing really iconic. The Warzone game mode is pretty fun it has moba elements and you can score high on the leader board by simply playing objectives you don't even need a good k/d. Warzone is also the best way to score requisition points for your rng packs that have some variety and add depth to the whole Spartan customization of halo mp sadly the best way to get req points is warzone so you will find yourself grinding warzone to get weapons so you can play the same 3 maps on warzone ... it becomes shallow very quickly. The thing that bothers me about Halo the most is that Halo used to be at the cutting edge of fps shooters each game was genre defining and pushing the limits of what console fps games could do from halo 1 through to Reach Halo used to set the standard but now after it's adoption by 343i halo is no longer ahead of other shooters as 343 struggle to find their take on halo whilst doing right by the fans they are borrowing ideas from other shooters instead of creating ideas and adding content that other fps games will copy later they are not ahead of the curve anymore and that is why Halo is no longer as great as it once was. Newcomers to the game will enjoy everything that it has to offer, and original halo guys and gals will appreciate feel of the classic weapons, which, if you are good with, you will likely opt for them over several of the power weapons. (I will say that I am not a fan of the plasma caster or Fuel Rod Canon)

Also, the new ranking system is similar to the old 1-50, ranking up and down solely through wins however, it has improved on the that as well adding in top levels of Onyx and Champion exclusively for the elite.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The story is disappointing and completely different to what we were sold on. But the gameplay and level design make me replay the campaign.
The multiplayer saves this game. The lack of launch content may hurt it but, I will still stick around for BTB and beyond.

Halo 5: Guardians now holds the record for smallest amount of content ever at the release of a game. No split screen. No game types other than campaign and multiplayer. No forge. None of the classic multiplayer game types that halo is known for.

The campaign is terrible and completely forgettable in every way imaginable. It is the most simplistic and dumbed down campaign in the series

The campaign is terrible and completely forgettable in every way imaginable. It is the most simplistic and dumbed down campaign in the series so far. It doesn't compare to that of Halo CE or Halo 3 in any way.

Multiplayer has maybe 4 or 5 gametypes that are worth playing, and most of the time they are so lopsided it basically cancels out anything positive about them. Warzone is so dull I often forget what the point of it is.

The menus in the game look like they were copy and pasted from the beta. Some people may not think this matters but I think it is representative of the problems this game has as a whole. Often when opening up the menus, it shows someone else's Spartan instead of your own. A minor glitch that happens way to often.

I don't know who payed off the critics for their reviews. This Halo game was a complete disappointment. I waited hopefully for the next 343 installment of Halo after destiny was a complete turd. Well it wasn't. The story was boring. You fight one recycled boss over and over and over. The AI of your squad in single player are dumb as dirt. You don't actually die and have to wait to be revived by this retarded AI which may or may not reach you before your timer ends. In which case you have to sit there and wait 45 seconds to re spawn at the last checkpoint. Really pulls you out of the immersion of the game which really didn't pull me in anyway. The story was short, boring, acting was rubbish. Don't waste your money. Worst Halo ever. Now I can sell my XB one with a free conscience, and focus my gaming entirely on PC. Good riddance. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the worst halo game I have played including multiplayer and single player. I have played halo 1 through 4 and reach usually the day they were released. I had high hopes for 343 after reach and halo 4. You barely play as the master chief. Locke is the most uninteresting character in the halo universe. They seem to have made him black for the sake of diversity and decided thats enough we don't need to flesh this character out. I was waiting the whole game for the scene in the trailer where locke is broken down in front of the statue so I could put him down. Sergeant johnson was stereotypical but still a great character. It's like they didn't even try with locke. Anyone in his fire team would have been a better lead. The game play is repetitive. I found myself skipping entire sections of the game as Locke because I had no interest in what red team was doing. Almost none of what 343 led us to believe would be in the game from teaser trailers was in the game. Game was beaten on Heroic. I personally don't mind the absence of split screen but many fans wanted it so it should have been included. There is online co op but no matchmaking. I am likely forgetting more negatives anyway the campaign is a pile of garbage. I purchased an xbox one a week ago for this game and am already considering selling it. I read some of the books, the original spartans ans everyone on his team were given growth hormones as teens and were all typically a head taller than the average adult. In the games the spartans are bigger. Now locke and all the new spartans as I understand are just regular albeit very talented soldiers in spartan suits. Why are they the same size as the originals? The opening scene where lockes team slides down that hill is rediculous. In past games you have hunted down the leader of the heretics, even been in shootouts with him. They have locke or his team kill him off in a cutscene to simply further how badass we are supposed to think he is.

The multiplayer is also a dissapointment. I don't play much warzone as I consistently find myself getting bored before the match is over. I also have 20+ hours into multiplayer am level 29 and I think I have 2 unique weapons unlocked. I don't have a problem with them charging for requisitions my issue is how long it takes to get them. I don't see the vast majority of players getting very far with this system. I primarily play team arena. Off the top of my head 3 maps are old maps and aside from that while the new maps are well designed they get repetitive very quickly. I don't understand how a series with such a vast majority of maps can fail to utilize them in this game. My biggest complaint however is the matchmaking. I have always been a 1 to 1.5 KD player, lets just say I am average. I got placed as platinum. I am constantly getting placed with opponents who are far better at this game than me. And when that isn't the case my teammate is in that position. I noticed people constantly quitting. 343 doesn't replace team mates who quit they claim so that no one will be put into a losing game and have their rank damaged. Heres an idea idiots replace missing players and just DONT adjust their rank for that game. I initially got frustrated by quitting teammates. I came to realize that matchmaking is broken. So now if my kd drops below .5 I quit. And i quit a lot. I will beat halo 6 someday, I want to see where this story goes. But I will either buy a copy used or play it at a friends. WORST HALO EVER 343

    Cons:
    - Weak story
    - Campaign is surprisingly short
    - Locke is used too much, 85% of the campaign is Locke the other 15% is Chief
    - Other fire team members are not well fleshed out, can be forgettable
    - REQ packs and the microtransactions
    - Disappointing cliffhanger ending that isn't deserved
    - No Forge
    - No Firefight or Spartan Ops modes
    - No splitscreen
    - False build up of Locke vs Chief
    - Recycled boss battles

The game has some new interesting features however the campaign is a huge let down. REQ packs fell kind of forced for Warzone. This games is worth owning if you're a major fan of the series however it won't attract the casual fans or bring more people into the fanbase. Final Verdict 7/10

As a Halo fan (been playing Halo since 2006),I simply HAVE to give this game a 10/10. The Campaign was epic, full of deep Halo lore stuff, some pretty epic AND dramatic moments, and the best part: Blue Team, finally in a Halo game AND playable!
-The visuals of this game are simply stunning, full of beautiful landscapes and scenarios.
-The gameplay feels great, the new Spartan abilities are amazing, the controls are easier (for non Halo gamers),and it is pretty frenetic.
-As I said,I loved the campaign of this game, and I had chills with the Legendary ending, and, the skulls are back! Finally, after 7 years,I'll finally have to look for Skulls again,if I want to unlock 'em.
-The cliffhanger already got me hyped for Halo 6.
-The Multiplayer (which is,in my opinion, the worst part about Halo 4) is pretty balanced, and utterly fun! You can have some competitive moments on Arena,or just sit back and have some casual fun on Warzone. I'm definitely glad that Halo 5's multiplayer is way better than Halo 4's.
-Warzone,it's one of the coolest and most badass things I've played in my whole LIFE!
-Forge (even though it's gonna be released, for free,in December) is great! Maps as big as Forge World, and everything's way more customizable, even the time of the day!
So,as a Halo fan,10/10. Great multiplayer, great campaign, great everything! Now,for someone new to the Halo franchise, the story might seem a bit confusing (fun, but confusing). And the lack of splitscreen might be a con as well. If you're new to the Halo franchise, than this game is gonna be an 8.5/10,still worth buying though! And,if you're a hardcore Halo fan,and haven't bought this yet.. What are you waiting for, man? This game is PERFECT for you! And if you're wondering "Is it better than Halo 4?" Yes it is,WAY better.

343 did a lot of things right in their new addition to the Halo saga. The gameplay has never been this refreshing. The action and pacing is much faster and the game doesn't suffer for it. It has been by far some of the most fun Halo I've played in a long while. While Halo 5 did a lot of things right, the biggest disappointment was the Campaign's story. It made the mistake of drawing to much information from Halo's Expanded Universe, a lot of it being from the books, comics, and series.

It's a big step up from Halo 4, but still not the return to glory I'd hoped for.

None of the music seems to 'fit' what you're doing. My other half was in the room while I was playing the final few missions and she commented on it despite not really paying attention. Locke is an unlikeable edge fest and his character reads like an antisocial tween's Deviantart power fantasy.

Warzone is nice. I'm not sold on the Requisition system but it's not overly intrusive and the whole thing brings back memories of chaotic Big Team Battle games on Halo 3. The scoring system is a little off, it's possible for a team to control all the bases for the entire game and still lose because the enemy was just farming AI kills, but for a bit of lighthearted fun there's nothing wrong with it.

Arena is not competitive Halo, the maps are not designed well - they're far too big for 4vs4 and I think they've been deliberately enlarged to compensate for the continued existence of sprint. It doesn't feel like an arena shooter and the playlist name just rubs it in your face.

If you like Halo and already own an Xbox One, it's probably worth your time. Absolutely do not go out and buy an Xbox just to play this game, you'll be wasting your money.

--if you've played Destiny and recall how super crisp and flowing the controls are and the handling of you're guy and every weapon is= well Halo5 showed me that Destiny's controls were-NOT perfect as Halo5 improved on this forumula..but we've all come to expect this with Bungie and 343/Halo etc..

--Campaign--send wife to Ikea with fam or friends followed by dinner at somewhere and not to be home for 6-8 hours....Now just bring the whole 2-liter of Dew,,bag of Dorrito's or Cheddar popcorn,Crank up you're surround sound,,and get lost for 6 hours..after 2 hours phone rings,,after 2 more it starts blowing-up cause wife is offended at the uncomprehendable concept of you self entertaining yourself for hours. Ugh!

---Halo Master a chief Edition---remember using 'SKULLS'? And turning on "enemies throw more and drop more grenades"?? Well Halo5 campaign feels like that is turned on. When it's NOT. It's locked until you locate the skulls to unlock it...i loved this type of Rtifact hunting in any game where you hunt for a game altering hidden artifact etc..That skull for headshot party sounds with confetti is thee skull to get, I haven't found it yet..

---Haters--what kind of person registers a bogus account, scores a game a -0- and bounces????
-you're NOT hurting Halo,Xbox, you're only hurting everyone by ruining Metacritic and yourself for sabotaging you're own property..do you really think anyone is gonna believe Halo5 is a ZERO, that it's a total bust, a failure?? halo and Cod and all AAA sequels don't work that way dude, they alter features, they don't flip the script...I know these are adults doing it too...so since Metacritic is broken as we know this game is awesome and worth the money for campaign or multiplayer alone...so with Metacritic scoring being broken from self mutilating adults, one must read individual reviews for pros & cons..I'll update with a serious review when I finish campaign and get some MP in......

Halos multiplayer hasnt change very much so if you're into that type of game play then you're good. If you wanted another epic story or even a mediocre story then this does not deliver. If youre new to the franchise this may appeal to you. If you're a die hard halo fan who has read the books and also knows a lot about marathon youre going to be let down.

Listen Im not trying to bash on a series i love ok. But I didn't feel any excitement playing this game. Maybe its because im 30 and lack the amount of testosterone i had 10 years ago. But i still play racing games and i still get an insane rush when im winning. The spark is still there not the guilty one. From the first cut scene with Spartans falling from the sky to masterchiefs intro i felt really ashamed and embarrassed. Only because Ive read the books and my image of what Spartans are does not compare to these. Of course the books are going to be different since theyre written by different writers.

That lack of continuity in halo can cause a lot of confusion for me. also it causes me to actually hate the new since it breaks so many lines. Im just gonna make a list W/E.
1.Story is boring and lacks continuity 2. Missing spartan threes. No Spartans from the ghost of onyx series. Fyi these Spartans were with linda kelly and fred after halo 3 events. 3. Spartans falling from sky would kill them or injure them. 26 Spartans jumped from a pelican in reach. It wasnt pretty. 4. Halo 1-3 hinted that humans were the forerunners. Now they have removed that and made these forerunner enemies. I just dont get it why would the forerunners only call humans re-claimers. they didnt make the tech the forerunners did right? seriously wtf halo Four. 5. Same boring multiplayer 6. cant join random people for coop campaign only friends...seriously.

Halo 5: Guardians is okay. Its campaign is rubbish, but the multiplayer is solid thanks to the foundation it’s built upon. Warzone is a really enjoyable experience, and while combat is still mostly about tossing grenades and hitting the melee button, the whole Requisition gimmick adds some much-needed flavor to proceedings.

The latest Halo is a big deal only for hardcore Halo fans. For me the single player campaign was unbearably pompous and despite 1080p and 60 fps the visuals are not as breathtaking as they once were in Halo 4. The game builds a solid foundation for Halo 6, but it’s not one of those games you absolutely have to play. [13/2015, p.48]

With a more accessible and engaging story and solid new designs for the Prometheans, Halo 5 is a major improvement over Halo 4. Warzone is a great addition to the multiplayer, though the mode seems to have some game balance issues. [Nov 2015]
