Fallout 76, or it should be named Frameout 76 because its massive framedrops. One of the worst optimized videogames so far. Terrible.
Truly an insult to the gamer community.

Already sought a refund. This game is well below what Bethesda could produce. We know this categorically, as they have Elder Scrolls Online, not perfect, but vastly better. Graphics bugs, glitches, crashes.. and then.. Content? This better be a FREE title soon.. worse than Sea of Thieves at Launch.

Loot is level locked, constantly breaking and you'll be farming vegetables to make glue constantly as a result. No human NPC's, no story, "public events" that glitch out and fail or pass you at random. And that's just one session.

Graphically I think it looks good in 4k. Obviously some of the texture detail up close looks like crap but overall its an upgrade imo. Multiple "stability" patches later and the game can barely handle a party of 4. Mostly a mix of new players and day one vets (most of whom grief the newbies out of boredom. GG Bethesda). PvP is set up in a way that actually encourages griefing and regularly happens between a lvl 100+ and a lvl 20 (and damaged is NOT normalized). Its mind blowing how naive Bethesda is about how people play online games.

The gameplay loop is fun but the online aspect of it simple does not work on any front be it technically, gameplay or design and execution. No Todd, it, it just doesn't work.

There are mods better than this and they're free so I much rather play those.

Please Bethesda, this game sucks and your engine is total trash. Ditch this game and your god forsaken engine, build a new engine or use Unreal or even Unity to build a good RPG. I don't care how long it takes just give us fans good games.

From everything scummy that Bethesda has done, you will have to do a LOT to bring back the trust of so many fans you have hurt. I’m not only mad, but extremely dissapointed.

The game, at its very core, is a boring slog of inane missions which are there as an extremely dull distraction from an empty and lackluster world. If the premise of the "game" you are attempting to sell relies primarily playing with friends, then the game needs to provide an interesting environment in which these experiences can happen in. This game utterly fails at that.

The game of Fallout 76 is a case similar to that of NoMans sky because they rushed to get the product unfinished. In addition, Bethesda takes the strategy of selling the product and with heavy patches go fixing it to compensate for the error. However, with the passage of time it will be finished in two years. The micro payments system is more careful than the game itself. It's not worth buying just for being a Fallout.

Fallout 76 is Bethesda's equivalent to that. First off, anyone giving this game more than a 5 is **** braindead. Some backstory, though before we dive in.. I've been a Bethesda fan boy since Morrowind. MORROWIND. I always had the greatest respects for Bethesda for creating massive worlds with easily 100's of hours of stuff to do and accomplish. Fallout 3 will forever remain my favorite Bethesda title for bringing a post-apocalyptic setting to life so well. However, Fallout 76 is where Bethesda ends for me. It feels like I got slapped across the face by Todd Howard's flaccid dick based on how big of a disappointment this game is.

    PROS:
There are a few new weapon/enemy variations that spices the game up from the typical Fallout formula. That's it for pros.

    CONS:
This game feels like a horribly ported mod for Fallout 4. It LITERALLY feels like an online mod for Fallout 4. There is absolutely nothing new besides the above listed. I can't describe how disappointing this experience was. I grinded nonstop hoping at some point that the game would get better. Hell, I hit LEVEL 110 AND IT WAS STILL GARBAGE.

The online doesn't work art all. Seeing Zenimax (the guys who did ESO: Online) it's shocking that they could make a much bigger game like ESO work but not Fallout. Granted, there are at least 10 studios that worked on this game which may be the main reason why it ended up as such a disaster. The graphics are exactly the same as Fallout 4. God rays come out of the f'ing ground (good job Todd). It still has the same old signature Bethesda textures where everything looks like ass up close. It also has BUGS FROM FALLOUT 4. Modders in Fallout 4 LITERALLY MADE A PATCH TO STOP BUGS IN FALLOUT 4. YET THOSE SAME BUGS GOT PORTED TO FALLOUT 76 UNPATCHED. At this point, I feel the modding community should own the rights to Fallout being that they do a better job than Bethesda's devs.

Now let's talk story. There is none. Okay, there is. But it sucks. You just go around the map, pick up holotapes. Done. That's it. There are ZERO human NPC's. This is Fallout 76's biggest downfall because NPC's are what bring the world to life. But because of Todd's terrible misdirection to make YOU, the player the NPC (no one acts like that).. we end up with this shallow, empty, soulless, obvious cash grab by Bethesda.

I loved Bethesda ever since I discovered Morrowind. I considered Fallout 4 a low point in their work because the story fell short for me but mod support reassured me that it was a good game because mods fixed a lot of what was broken in Fallout 4. However, Fallout 76, I hope remains on a **** list forever as an example as to what not to do when you decide to become a game dev. I don't know what to say, Bethesda. You **** it up.

I wouldn't even recommend this game if it was $20. The price has already dropped to $35-$40 and I feel cheated because I paid a full AAA $60. Thanks, dark souls.

Graphics/visual presentation- this game looks okay at certain shots and angels, but most of the time the game is either going to look from bad to okay. Please Bethesda update this **** 19 year old engine. The games lighting even though can make things look pretty most of the time ruins Emerson especially when their are god rays coming through rocks and **** so over all the game's looks are below average so a 4.

Audio- if Bethesda is going to nail one thing its going to be the sound track, However i cant give them that much credit considering almost all the radio tracks are licensed but the original scores are actually pretty good, with a lot of the tracks being legato slow symphony. Now the sound effects on the other hand, are okay nothing much to say their so over all a 7

Performance- This game runs like total dog **** on xbox x with a 50 mb speed, the game has tons of bugs and ****ty problems with how teaming up works. running at sometimes 15-25 frames per second. This is disappointment because without these issues this game would probably have a 5 or 4 average. (performance doesnt really matter to me though) im mixed between a 2 and a 1 on this one so a 1.5

Fallout 76 is a lifeless, shell of a world that had most of it's assets ripped from Fallout 4. It goes out of it's way to take everything that Fallout was and throw it in the trash for the sake of appealing to a fanbase that was never there.

Pros. The Music is good, as usual. Cons. No NPC's. No Story outside of notes, holotapes and exposition shouted at you by robots.

    No NPC's.

No Story outside of notes, holotapes and exposition shouted at you by robots.

Meaningless factions that lead only to busywork repeatable quests such as 'escort this robot' and 'defend this supply cache'.

Shoehorned factions put in simply for brand recognition, despite them making no lore sense in the setting.

    PvP that doesn't exist.

PvE that's stupidly easy, and when it's not easy you're just fighting bullet sponges.

    The dialogue system removed entirely.

90% of the game is inhabited by these fake ghouls called 'scorched', no enemy variety at all.

Ridiculous micro-transactions that manage to be even worse than the creation club ($3 for a virtual door for your house, $5 for some stupid hat).

It's still on the creation engine. Which means all the bugs that existed in Fallout 4 and even as far back as MORROWIND still persist.

You can speedhack the game just by editing a .ini file.

There's no data encryption. Hope you're not trying to hide your IP address from some stalker.

DO NOT reward Bethesda for this travesty of a game.

So, as always, I downloaded it on my Xbox One for a very low $60, booted it up...and my life was changed.

First of all, the graphics and performance have to be the best I have and ever will see. The game looks so, so, SO amazingly perfect, that when I started to play games like Red Dead 2, Spider-Man PS4, and even Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, they all made my eyes hurt due to how unbelievably good Fallout 76 looks. Plus, even with it's holy grail graphics, Bethesda somehow made this game run at a locked 60 FPS with 0 glitches. Woah.

The story is absolutely amazing(I'm not the spoiler type), the gameplay is addicting and nearly flawless, and the open world...OH BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fallout 76's world has by far the best use of space ever conceived in a video game. The sheer amount of stuff to do is insane. And to the people whining about the lack of human NPCs, let me just say: human NPCs were TRASH in the previous games, ESPECIALLY in New Vegas, AKA the worst Fallout game.

All in all, I'd give this game a 76 out of 10. By far the best use of code since the glorious Cory in the House on DS.

But seriously though this game is trash

Yes, it has a huge map and crafting is back with more options and the gameplay loop is still passable as "somewhat fun", but we've lost NPCs, engaging story quests, most of the narrative, not to mention the trainwreck that's the SPECIAL system right now and at the end of the day, this game is a huge sandbox that, in all its vastness, ultimately feels empty. Bethesda has removed a lot of things compared to FO4, but forgot that if you take away from the game, you're supposed to put something in instead.

Additionally, we still have the same friggin problems we had with FO4, but this time, modders won't be able to fix these for at least a year. No FOV slider, FPS lock on PC, weird glitches, objects and enemies stuck in the terrain, MY CHARACTER stuck in the terrain, missin push-to-talk option, disappearing and t-posing enemies... the list just goes on and on... Hell there are even bugs that Bethesda supposedly "fixed" during the beta, but here they are in the final release.

Microtransactions are the final nail for me. Yes, you can earn everything by playing but just the existence of MTX in this game makes my blood boil. It makes it seem like this game went for profits and profits only. At least the cash shop works perfectly, am I right boys? It just adds insult to injury.

Bethesda really needs to get its crap together if they want me to put money down for their products ever again.

Loot is level locked. PVP is invite initiated. There are no human NPC's. Every mission is mind numbingly repetitive. The "story" is told through hundreds of holotapes cause, again, no human NPC's. It looks absolutely terrible for a 2018 game and runs like hot garbage. Shall I go on? I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why it's such an absolute chore to play, I went into it optimistically, I was honestly hoping for a good time. I've sunk a ridiculous amount of hours into the fallout and Elder Scrolls series and I've enjoyed them a lot despite their flaws but 76 just stands apart, it's the black sheep of the series, the really boring black sheep. The main story is pathetic. Fallout 76 is the story of an insane man chasing quest markers around a map while pointless audio logs play in the background. You do not have any goals or direction, there are no characters to get you engaged or immersed in the game, just an endless series of quest markers to follow around. Saying the story is half-assed would be an overstatement, it's closer to no assed. The world is actually quite beautiful, the environments look really great and contain many different visually distinct areas, it's just too bad there's nothing in this world worth finding. There is literally no challenge in this game at all. Almost every enemy takes one or two shots to kill, while the player seems to be built like a tank. The power armor in this game works similar to the the star powerup in Super Mario Bros, you never die... At first I thought this was just because I was in a low-level area, but I ended up running into an enemy that was nearly double my level at one point and he was basically no threat whatsoever, I just back pedaled down the road and shot him in the face a few times. This game's difficulty feels like I'm playing fallout 4 on the "game journalist" difficulty. It is mind-numbingly boring and as a result of that I quickly started using fast travel whenever I possibly could to avoid fighting endless waves of impotent enemies. Let's talk about the loot, which is basically the only reason to play the game. There's no story and the enemies suck, so the loot has to be good right? This was the moment of revelation for me, this was the point that I figured it out, fallout 76 is not a Fallout game, it's a F-ing MMO. The core gameplay is there, it's a shooting game where you collect loot and level up, but all the joy of playing a Fallout game is just absent. There are no cool characters to meet, there are no interesting areas to explore I would go as far to say there really are no quests. Every area is just go here, kill dudes, pick up loot and return. And is the loot even worth anything? No of course not, MMOs are designed to waste your time, so you'll find 500000 pipe pistols that are all worth one cap. Thank You Todd. Let's talk about the cash shop. I don't really need to say anything about this. There is a cashshop and everyone knows cashshops are cancer. The leveling completely sucks, I have no idea how they F-ed this up so bad. The leveling up in Skyrim and fallout 4 was awesome, there were so many good perks to choose from and every level made you feel tangibly stronger. But leveling up in fallout 76 is pretty bland, the game randomizes the perks you can choose from and most of them are really anemic. I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference between my character when I was level one versus when I was level 20. It felt more or less the same. And because of the randomness, there's basically no chance that you can specialise towards a specific kind of build, you're just sort of stuck with whatever they give you. I imagine that after a few hundred hours of playtime you might be able to collect all the different perks, but there is no way I'm gonna suffer through to that point. This game handicaps itself by being so pathetically easy, why would you ever bother to team up with someone who's going to take half of your loot if you can play just as effectively solo. it's completely pointless. And even if you are brain-dead enough to actually need help with a quest good luck finding another player who has the exact same quest, is a similar level and actually wants to team up with you. You are probably more likely to win the lottery, so the co-op is totally pointless. The PvP is not only also pointless but it's also fundamentally broken. The way the PvP works is that when you shoot a player it sends a duel request and does a tiny amount of damage to that player, then if that player shoots back at you it starts a duel and then you both do full damage to each other. The problem here is that the person who sends the duel request by shooting first will always lose because the way you initiate the duel is by shooting back, meaning that if someone shoots you, you can just walk straight up to them, go into your inventory, put on your power armor, pop a psycho, get out your strongest shotgun and then just vats in on their head and get a critical and you'll kill them in one hit. You win the duel there's nothing they can do to stop you from doing this because they cannot damage you until you shoot back. it's just the most broken system. Expand

This game is incredibly empty with no real npc's to interact with, workbenches and the like that can only be utilized by a single player at a team leading to waiting in line for the chance to do anything, player collision systems that stop players from moving through each other making it so that people who stop in door ways stop everyone else from entering the building. Monsters spawn far to frequently and attack based solely on seeing a player, meaning trolls simply lead large groups of monsters into populated areas and let them loose on unsuspecting players. On top of that the story, if you want to call it that, is really, really lazy and poorly done. It honestly might as well not even be there. Now we can get to the best part, that the game is a buggy mess! This truly is a failure in every way. The entire thing feels unpolished and feels like it needs at least another year of work on it to make it at least somewhat enjoyable. Easily one of the worst games released this year, and definitely the worst game I've ever played from Bethesda. Expand

The aimlessness of this game will be evident to you within seconds of taking control of your character, you’re given near nothing in direction or motivation, exit the vault and take a dirt road instead of the paved road and you miss the cornerstone quest that introduces you to the world mechanics.

You get quests however they’re all kill robot this, kill robot that or cook a steak...

Other players simply exist, you don’t interact as much as you simply see each other, the base building is something I latched onto in an attempt to justify my hard earned dollars alas, this too hits a wall as you easily achieve everything you need from a base within a hour or so.

    Give this game a miss

This is the worst fallout game I've ever played. This game was released as a beta that they rushed and didn't want to finish it. The story is boring, the environment is boring, the voice recordings were boring. This is the worst train wreck that Bethesda has made!

Completely flabbergasted that Bethesda dropped the ball so badly here. As is, world immersion is impossible and the game has the depth of a teaspoon. Building is limited by size to a basic shack. I’m stuck alone in a hollow, shallow, grindy world with nothing but holotapes and bugs (literal and figurative). Perhaps I’ve outgrown gaming. Studios are more and more sacrificing fantastic titles to the hordes of mmo players and micro transactions or worse, just turning out cheap shoddy work while charging for a premium quality game. Count me out. Sadly, my gaming days end with FO76. It’s really that much of a disappointment.

If something is only fun with friends that's not point for the games benefit, but your friends, you may as well be playing spin-the-bottle, heck, that would be so much better than this "game".

There are hardly anyone to be found playing, so if you do not have bunch of friend ready to drop everything and jump into the game with you 100% of the time you will not be having good time.

There was a time when Bethesda's name carried the same weight as Rockstar and Naughty Dog. As a bethesda fan I gave this game despite the bad comments a chance and played it at least 10 hours alone and further 20 hours with friends to make my own opinion. And i'm totally disappointed by bethesda, it was a waste of time to play Fallout 76. Never thought that I would say that about a Fallout game.

why bethesda...why would you do this to fallout. If there were NPCs and a richer immersive story, this could be the best game..hands down. RDR2 for the win.

The main story quest is you following holo tapes that someone leaves behind and you don't feel like you are contributing to anything. The pvp is broken when you are up against 2 people with power armor and you got nothing and there is something you can do but let them kill you. The building is broken there are only a few spots to build and if someone builds at a workshop you can't move it or collect your stuff that got placed next to it. The hit detection of enemies is also broken. Just don't buy it and save your self the trouble or just watch people streaming it.

So I decided to try Fallout again and it's still bad after having another 57 GB update before I could play. The game feels horrible for controls aim is useless and even with the Two-Shot guns they don't do hardly any damage and the shotgun is still glitched. I was able to play it for about 45 minutes before I got off because of how unplayable the game is. After all these updates it doesn't look like they fix anything. Thanks Bethesda You lost another customer.

I'm a lifelong Fallout & Elder Scrolls fan, and have always extended the benefit of the doubt to Bethesda regarding buggy games because these are massive worlds and problems are to be expected. That is over now. I will never look at or treat Bethesda the same way again. From now on I will read reviews and watch videos of their games before I buy them, if I even do.

My major problem with 76 is the server issues. And by "issues" I mean I can't even log in to the game most of the time. I work for a living and have extremely limited amounts of time to give to anything at all, including movies, TV shows & games. I do not have time to sit and try for a half hour, which has happened often, just to get into any server at all. Regularly I have to back out to the Home screen on my X, start up a different game, cancel out of that, and then I can get into 76. All of this is after the recent 50 GB day one patch & the next 50 GB update which was supposed to fix these issues.

I simply do not have the time for this nonsense. I sold the game last night and will take that money and put it towards getting an older Back Compat game, or Red Dead 2. I do not tolerate anything wasting my time, and that's exactly what 76 did. And I paid $60 for Bethesda to waste my time, which is infuriating.

Never again will I give Bethesda leeway for this stuff. And now they've also made me question what games are actually worth dropping $60 again at launch.

    Bethesda screwed up, big time.

Too many bugs, extremely painful to play in multiplayer because i used to play all versions alone. Now things have changed for bad, it is not a RPG anymore its a multiplayer shooter. So whats is the point to play fallout 76, better find another shooter game with no bugs.

Fallout 76 is the Dai Katana of 2018. If this was released 15 years ago it would have OK. But the quality is completely unacceptable. Its buggy, boring, bland, repetitive, un rewarding ... and the hell is with using the same engine from Morrowind days ?
If you think to yourself while playing it "Hey, this isnt this bad. What is everyone on about". Stop playing. Put on an actual AAA title

I am a Fallout fan boy. DO NOT BUY THIS TITLE. This is a technical demonstration, not a game. It should have never been released. There should have never been a cost to play this technical demonstration. There are serious flaws with this title. It is boring. All the mechanics work against itself.

Just a reskin of fallout 4 but somehow manages to be worse? It's as shallow as a puddle and takes all of the fun original mechanics and quests and tosses them out the window. But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
