Rolled 100 3 star legendarys to not get a single legendary worth using. i get that might just be bad luck but oh well. The game is fun with other people and the questing is okay when it doesnt involve robots, if youre going to play solo however just play one of the other fallout games. Its also a game that makes a problem and then acts all high and mighty when they make a subscription to 'solve' the problem Expand

This time around, I'm mad at the gaming press, who as far as I'm concerned, is totally corrupt and completely without credibility.

I've watched and read numerous "professional" reviews on Fallout 76, all of which are terrible. I'm not disputing the critics' reception to this title - not by a long shot. But my question is this: so what the f*** was going on with you guys when you reviewed Fallout 4? The XONE score was what? An 88? The user score was far lower than that. What gets me is that the professional critics are voicing the exact same complaints that we, the players, voiced nearly four years ago regarding Fallout 4. ALL OF THE SUDDEN, they're appalled by the terrible graphics. "That's odd," I thought. "The graphics in Fallout 4 were among the worst I'd ever seen, particularly on the heels of the Witcher 3." ALL OF THE SUDDEN, they're appalled by the slipshod game performance and bugs. "That's odd," I thought. "Fallout 4 played like it was programmed by a team of high schoolers or undergrads." The list goes on and on, but Bethesda got a lot of positive feedback on "Fallout 4" from the professional gaming press, so what would motivate them to improve Fallout 76?

I don't know if the gaming press is on the take, or they're trying to curry favor with the big game developers, etc., and I really don't care. The Fallout 76 scandal finally brought into the light the mass corruption in the gaming press that gamers have known about for many, many years.

Easy cash grab.... dont have to hire voice actors, use most of the assets from fallout 4, dont need too program any AI.. So wtf is the $60 price tag for?

Most games give multiplayer modes for free.. Bethesda charges $60 and STILL have bugs but Bethesda fanboys will defend them no matter what.

I dont understand how people are defending this game.. is it to justify your purchase?

I paid $60 for this game on console and put it down forever after a few hours because I can't stand how there is visible lag when you run around, look around, or get into combat. It also appears to be stuck in 30 fps mode.

What's the point of buying a game on a console if it isn't optimized to run perfectly for that console?

I must admit that I was initially hooked and really enjoyed playing both solo and teaming up with my friend. On the rare occasion that you encounter another player, nobody has attacked me. In fact, most players want to team up or trade. I've even been revived by other players who just happened to be in the area. The map is gigantic and was exciting to explore at first, but the game quickly becomes a boring, repetitive slog with minimal challenge. I give Bethesda credit for trying this experiment, but Fallout76 fails as a RPG and as a FPS. They might have been hoping that players would team up and battle other teams- and perhaps that happens, but I haven't experienced that. Scrounging is an essential component for Fallout- and there's plenty of it, but it really sucks when you're exploring a new area and you realize that another player had been there recently and already took everything and killed everything. There are a number of public events that you can join, but after I did an event once, I found little motivation to do it again. There are also Daily, Weekly, and Character Challenges that reward Atom Points which can be spent in the Atomic Shop. While it's easy to rack up Atom points, everything in the store is purely cosmetic. You can also purchase Atom points, but who would spend more money on Atom points when there's nothing but costumes, Photomode Poses, profile icons, emoticons, and a variety of superficial junk you can use in your CAMP? It's logical to deduce that Bethesda intended to offer player "advantages" in this shop (i.e. weapons, armor, Perks) but I guess it would've been too obvious that Fallout76 was never really meant to be a challenging, fun multiplayer experience; sadly in the end, it was just a cash grab. Fallout 76 is a blatant self ripoff of Fallout 4. Almost every texture, model, and building is the same as Fallout 4.

PvE combat is broken due to every enemy AI rushing you at every opportunity. Without the opportunity to slow-time with VATS, combat is inherently broken. Even the AI type that attempts to take cover has laughable AI and easily gets stuck just navigating the world.

There are no NPC's to give the land a sense of life. Bethesda says it's the story that no one is around. I think they couldn't make them work in multiplayer with their terrible game engine.

PvP is completely pointless due to the weird "handshake" mechanic where each party has to shoot each other before full damage is done. There is no reward for engaging in PvP to make it worthwhile.

The CAMP mechanic (base building) is broken due to having to rebuild your camp every time you log out and back in.

The storage limit in your personal stash is so low that players are hitting the storage limit by level 10.
You literally do not have enough space to keep extra weapons, which you'll need because the weapons are constantly breaking. Food cannot be saved due to the new "spoilage" mechanic. So much for trying to provide your team with food or potions.

This game is a terrible self-ripoff of Fallout 4. Do not buy.

Bethesda have killed the Fallout franchise with Fallout 76. Why? Because

Instead of writing a new engine designed specifically for multiplayer, they just used the old engine and added multiplayer to it. Why is that bad? Because the engine was never designed for multiplayer, which is why we now have all these performance issues and bugs, because you are trying to cram a square peg into a round hole. Not to mention a lot of the features were never designed for multiplayer. The VATS system in Fallout 76 is a complete joke.

Mechanically this game follows the trend of fallout staying behind its times: frequent stutter, glitches, horrible indoor lightning, the worst shooter mechanics out there.
The franchise used to be redeemed by the storytelling, but now there's almost no story. They could have gone for an emergent player-driven story like Sea of Thieves but this doesn't fit the setting, mood or game

Audio logs get mixed into random voice noise in the chat, the mechanics to encourage player interaction are half-baked at best, and the grind is tragically boring and detrimental to the player interaction, as players can have heavily different power levels. It's as if game designers were totally absent from the process, and the game is a mash up of the board of directors' vague ideas about what a modern cash grab should be.

My first 8 hours of playing this game... it was dead it seamed. it was as if i was playing Fallout 4 after the main mission. I was able to get a power armor frame. and a massive plethora of pipe pistols. that i can only seam to sell for 1-2 bottle caps or deconstruct into one or 2 screws. depending on item condition. and after about 8 of those hours, compiling materials and a few quests. i still couldnt build a full on house (4 walls and a roof). So after i gave up on the building aspect of the game. i then got board of doing the same kind of quests over and over again. ether fetch, baby sit, kill something, or read an entire essay worth of hidden quest paths. I have been around the block a few times with these holotape and such story systems. Fallout 1 and especially Fallout 2 had them already. It wasnt new.

My next few hours. from hour 8 to about 12 i found one of my friends in game. And we didnt go on some massive adventure our the like. i was helping him get his quests done and the like he was helping with some of mine. We still couldnt really build much. And he got tired of just doing the same kind of quests as well.
From about hour 12 to 13 we just talked and tried to figure out the leveling system, some crafting, and where to go and do next. so from hour 13 to about 16 we went to the edge of the maps. We tried to find the largest landmarks. and we ended up getting frustrated as we kept running out of ammo, and getting chased down by a gang of 4 other players wanting to PvP.
My friend left on hour 16 and i went back to where i like to set up my shop. trying to work with the crafting system in some way. seeing what i could or couldnt do.
Then followed by me Alt-Tabing out of the game to see how to start looking for nuclear launch codes... to no real prevail.

My Review of this game is a 2/10. its boring. its empty. theres nothing at those cool looking locations. the story didnt hook me or my friend. the quests are generic MMO quests. its still buggy. and as i have seen from previous BGS games, they will remain buggy to the end of their life.
The Engine is too old for this stuff they expect it to do.
The players ruined my experience. but it was alright when i was playing with just my friend. the no push-to-talk system is cancerous.
There is no amusement to about 80% of these locations.
There is no random special encounters with lets say as happens in Fallout 3 or new vegas.
Its arsenal is lack luster. it will be an E.A. like system where i have to play some 100+h before i get to end game equipment. that i might not even have the level to use. I already got power armor frame and a minigun though. Ammo is harder to come across.
The survival aspect of this game is a joke. you dont get hungry or thirst too often at all. Softcore survival just means that you are to not have too harsh of a penalty on death... not have it become a massive chore when you actually need to drink or eat.
The game is alright for exploring and some time with friends. But thats all that is here. wide as an Ocean, deep as a puddle. ill give it points for the looks and the environment. but everything else? No.

Out of this entire experience, i came out feeling ripped off. I payed $65 pre-order... i get home to open my PHYSICAL CD case. to find that where the CD is, its a cardboard disk... THERE IS NO PHYSICAL COPY OF FALLOUT 76. and it was STILL a FULL PRICED game. Not only that but the pre-order from Gamesstop; Their special pre-order item? was a Fallout Sticker to put in your car window.

I have no idea what Bethesda is doing. idk if this is Todd's idea. but if this is a joke. it went right over all of our heads.

As of today. I know this wasnt your first Online game, Bethesda. i am no longer your fan. Goodbye Bethesda.

I was very, very excited about a new Fallout title, it's one of my all-time favorite game worlds. The graphics are amazing, the world is beautifully detailed...but there's a problem. There aren't any people. The quests are all driven by either Robots or Audio tapes. The cities and towns aren't lived in because there aren't any human NPCs to be seen. It's dull, lifeless and boring. Human players are sparse on the ground as well. They're scattered all about the massive world and encounters are few and far between.

I was okay with multiplayer because the expectation I had was that it'd be Fallout 4 with Human NPC mission givers and other non-human NPCs wandering out. I figured the choice system for dialog would be there as well for interaction and an awesome branching storyline you and your friends could help shape. Nope. There's none of that.

Now, I'm not going to just complain. I've got an idea on how this can be fixed, if it's something Bethesda decides to fix.

    1. Populate the safe areas with NPCs
    2. Write the story that's seriously lacking with branching choices and meaningful decisions.
    3. Since it's multiplayer, and generally fallout follows a 3 or 4 choice dialogue selection, with one being good, one being bad and the other neutral...with some specials thrown in depending on charisma and the like...make it a "vote" when in a group. So, a tally of the selected dialogue options displays to the player, so if 3 of the 4 selected choice 'b' and the last guy picked 'c', well 'b' is what the group gets. In the case of ties, the neutral choice is the winner by default.
    4. To group likeminded players together, use the karma system that's been in place for forever. This system would help to get likeminded players together for the purposes of decision making. So, if a player has a habit of selecting the 'bad' choice on their own, or in a group, the game will keep track of that and display an icon of some sort to let other players know that's someone they want to play with for a likeminded experience.

Something along those lines would keep the multiplayer aspect, provide longtime fans of the game a bit more of what they were expecting, and help form and solidify player interactions and the community. Honestly though, unless a major overhaul of the present system happens, I will more than likely not be playing the game anymore. It's boring and lifeless and a real drag to play.

The idea of this game is somewhat laughable. They made a large map, with no human npcs. This wouldn't be so bad, but the robots, intercoms, and radio conversations are all either completely automated, or you get one option: 'interact'. this really does make the game feel boring, and i quickly found myself mashing a to get through terminals, and ignoring the one sided dialogue.

the player interaction was a good idea, but poorly implemented. proximity voice chat is finicky, and automatically switches off if you play in a team. on top of that, there is no push to talk, so many don't use mics anyways. This means that 80% of the player 'interaction' is you walking up, spamming an emote, then either going away or shooting them.

The player pvp system is terrible and easily abused. you shoot someone, do 99% reduced damage, until they shoot you back once, then both people do full damage. this means you can jump in front of gunfire to be allowed to shoot someone, and the pacifist option is hidden in menus and actually causes gameplay glitches. this also means stealth isn't an option, making a whole play style useless. once you are high level, you cant damage low level players but they can hurt you. i could write this whole review about how bad pvp is but i digress.

The pve is very obviously just finished enough to be 'functional', but lacks any extra structure, and has many glitches that basically make it a click to hurt enemy system. basic enemies lack basic intelligence, character models regularly glitch, and animations look terrible even when running properly. higher level enemies and enemies with unique mechanics, often just don't work. you'll get the scorchbeasts (boss enemy) firing continuous breath attacks out of their tail for 10 minutes straight from the air, assaultrons continuously using their charged death laser attack without charging it, and with no delay until you kill them, and digging and teleporting enemies will magically spawn directly behind you already attacking. on top of that, the enemy variety is laughable in most areas, to the point that you stop caring what you're shooting at.

the weapons and armor system is more varied, as they added quite a few base weapons. It's too bad you can't keep most of them because the game limits you to 400lbs worth of gear. by level 20 you will be dropping high level guns and ammo, throwing away power armor, and generally spending 1-2 hours a session on just inventory management.

the building and workshop mechanics themselves have better functionality than fallout 4, but are hampered by terrible design choices and myriad glitches. by design, your whole nicely built camp will disappear when someone else has a camp there, but the game will often glitch and make you have to rebuild it instead of it being stored. the workshops are nice, and fun to fight over, but most of the time you will lose your workshop when the game crashes.

did i mention the game barely runs? 30 frames a second is lucky. most of the time, you will have small lags and drop frames, and big combats can cause minute long freezes. doing anything with lots of players or enemies in one place will consistently lag the game, and sometimes crash the server. nuke zones have a 50 50 shot of crashing the server. randomly, you will have server disconnects. you wont be able to rejoin, and will lose workshops, quest checkpoints, and items.

to top it all off, the game is incredibly buggy. too many bugs exist in this game, and a lot of them have not been fixed from the beta test. most of the community doesn't believe the fixes will come anymore.

Tl;Dr the game was a great idea, but lazily implemented, filled with bugs, barely runs on xbox, hampers gameplay with design choices, and has a fully working microtransaction system so you can buy cool paints. buyer beware.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (After 1.02 patch) I love the new perk system, love the locale, love the variety of scenery. I see what Fallout 76 was supposed to do and I like all of the concepts, but it still needs work. The main reason for the low score is simply that the game is just too buggy to play. I haven't had a successful game session over two hours, and the game crashes are random, even had it once crash as I was quitting the game. Lots of crashes when I tried to get into power armor. Lost an claim workshop event because the pathing for mobs was so bad that I couldn't find them, then I lost both the workshop event, and the subsequent event re-take in the same minute. I am glad they are going to address the inventory issues in future updates. Basic shooting is pretty buggy too, as I can shoot a target pointblank miss, yet deliberately shoot to the right or to the left of the target and hit them.

Mob placement is weird too. Level 62 ghouls intermixed with level 9 and level 15 ghouls, and yet they aren't instant death to me at level 25 (in fact, I killed quite a number of level 62 beasts).

The number of players per server is a bit small, and should be doubled especially considering the number of people. Haven't tried the PVP yet, but considering general shooting is a bit buggy too

The lore seems a little off too. Not just the Brotherhood of Steel (would have made more sense as Enclave), but other things don't make sense with the overall story.

So, if it was bug-free, I'd give it a 7 or 8. If they fixed the lore, the mob location, and had more people per server then I'd put it at a 9. Overall, it looks like Bethesda was trying to do something new using technology it knew how to use, but it was just a bridge to far. I don't mind paying for the risk though, if they are going to keep supporting Fallout 76.

What is up with a multiplayer only option? Everything that you could possibly do wrong in a game seems to have been included in this version. I know Bethesda has hopes that they can save this pig with many patches in the future, but honestly, I didn't pay $80 dollars to be a @#!$ beta tester. I expected a little competence for my money. At this point I will settle for more time in Red Dead Redemption II and shelve this garbage for a few more months and maybe by then I will be able to play for an afternoon without being booted from their server or crash after crash. Spoiler alert; skip this for at least a year and maybe by then Bethesda will have basic gameplay issues resolved. Expand

Let me say that the first problem is the location. West Virginia simply is not the best place for a fallout game. They really made a mistake by pretty much making all of the WV map available, now future above ground maps can't be added.

Most importantly the glitches and bugs. It could never be more clear that the devs were not capable of making the game. They fix one glitch only for a dozen more to show up. The game has been out for how long and still it's difficult to play because of these bugs?

Survival mode? Why? What is the point? Survival mode would mean something if once you entered a character in that mode and that was the only mode you could play. No, you can swap between normal and survival mode taking the teeth out of pvp. I remember back in the days of WoW you leveled on a pvp server and you lived under the constant threat of being ganked. Here, you go in, ???? log out and accomplish no meaningful pvp content.

If Devs really want to fix survival mode they need to make it stick to the character.

The Graphics are ok, some of the dynamic weather is beautiful especially the rain.

I truly enjoy the survival aspect especially the requirement for food water and weapon maintenance make it a more dynamic experience.

I'll end this review wit ha suggestion to improve Survival mode:

    1) Make it stick to a character, if you are in survival mode you stay in (Unless you use atoms to xfer, think of how much you could make)

    2) drop the top 3.

    3) Add twice as many players to the server

A change a while ago completly ruined the game for me tho. Enemies now scale with your level so there is not really any player progression. A low level will deal as much damage to an enemy as somebody with a higher level since the enemies scale to each player. When you get stronger over time the enemies in the same area get stronger aswell so there is not point for me to upgrade my character. The System before was way better, where enemies would have a certain fixed level in a specific area. I also prefered the perk system in Fallout 4 where you could unlock every single perk. It is a grind to unlock every perk, but this was another reason that kept me playing. Why couldnt they just make a Fallout with coop combatibility instead of an online Fallout. Im just gonna stick to the other Fallout entries for now. Expand

This is a game completely removed of what made Fallout such a great experience to begin with. I can't find much to like about it, everything about it back then and now is still pertinent. Simply put, Fallout 76 stinks - and has left a mark on Bethesda's reputation for how they handled everything surrounding the game afterwards.
After seeing how much of a train wreck this game was on release and beyond, I made a huge promise to never buy this game if I valued myself as a fan of the Fallout games. A few years later and I would find this game in a bargain bin for the low price of £2, so I decided to get it and see the complaints. Below are some articulated points I have for this game:
Although I do see the appeal for online games, I rarely play them. This is mostly because I hate paying for subscriptions to use a service I'm already paying for. So this problem may be commonplace in online games and I'm just not aware of it, but the AI in this game is horrendous. The main enemies in this game are these weird ghoul creatures that technically aren't ghouls, and they have some unconventional movement patterns and behaviors that I'm not used to seeing as a predominantly single-player sort of person. Might just be a nitpick, but I personally found it annoying to see enemies constantly sidestep and jerk around irregularly.
They initially released the game with no NPCs, the entirety of the game's story was told with audio logs. After some vocal complaints, Bethesda quietly began adding NPCs for the player to interact with - and yet I still don't know what they were going for in terms of story. If it's a prequel all the games preceding it, then why are there Super Mutants in the wasteland? The NCR didn't form until after the original Fallout, yet you can still obtain their gear somehow. And the overall game has this bizarre late 60s vibe as opposed to the previous games' post-World War II Americana. Basic plot points in that have been illustrated since the beginning have been disregarded for what I would love to describe as poorly-written fan fiction at this rate.
I would think to myself how Fallout could have worked as an online experience, but this is not how to do it. What upsets me the most is that the previous Fallout games by Bethesda had something going for them, there was something about Fallout 3 and 4 that thematically felt like Fallout - but were otherwise completely different tonally. I find it difficult to give this game a recommendation: Play any other Fallout game other than this.

I've played a few hours and i'm yet to encounter another player. Therefore, I'm successfully playing the game solo. That does not mean i avoid the disadvantages of a multiplayer game. Server crashes, lag, and annoying delays in interacting with anything, add to the game's frustration.

I really don't know why this got released. Its not a fallout game and its not good enough at being something different to warrant the risky new direction. Who is this for? Don't get me wrong i'm enjoying exploring more of the fallout universe, but as game, its really, really bad. I don't typically write a review before completing a game, but i'm not sure i can finish it. There is literally nothing, beyond a new world, that is keeping me playing. Technology-wise, it is Bethesda at its *finest*. Bugs-galore. Performance is right out. I have an Xbox One X and when I say the game chugs along at 15-ish fps in public events I'm being generous. Couple that with the game not reacting under those conditions and you got a recipe for disaster. Forget firing your gun at mobs, or even moving, if it's not the terrain bogging you down it's the melee attacks of the mobs, which under 10-15fps you simply cannot outrun or move away from. Forget about getting a stimpack going and surviving, that's right out.

If this game ran at 60fps or had better graphics on my Xbox One X I could see it as a technology demo but right now it is far from a demo of anything but mediocrity.

This is not "Fallout with multiplayer", this is a multiplayer walking simulator with guns, in a Fallout world, nothing more.

Give this one a pass. They can patch out all the bugs, even improve the performance, but I highly doubt they can ever make this game fun.

Second, this game is buggy even by Bethesda standards. It lags and glitches extremely often on every system. The Xbox one X is the worst though. Many people complain they have no audio, though I don't have this issue. The issue I and a ton of One X users have is an issue with "overheating". I put that in parenthesis because the system isn't actually overheating. It's a bug that shouldn't even be possible but Bethesda's legendarily bad programming has found a way. It happens most often when fast traveling or leveling up but can really happen at any time. I rarely play more than 20 minutes without the system shutting off and I've never played over an hour at a time.

This game was not even remotely ready for release, and Bethesda should be ashamed that they pushed it out anyway. Absolutely disgraceful.

No npcs, limited story structure and after you explore everything, this game will have no replayability factor. While some fanboys are overly negative or on their knees positive, I'm looking at it as a fan of the first game on and seeing the game without biased opinion either way and this isn't a fun game, without the name Fallout on the cover, this game would be a huge failure. But bc its Bethesda who even while they fail to deliver a workable game without modders to help them and theres no mods untilnext November, they can't be questioned or bc Fallout has name recognition, this game will probably do well in sales but as the rush of the first few weeks dies down, so will the players bc the world while big is a boring mess without too much to enjoy.

The game is awful trying to play solo even though Bethesda tries to trick people into buying it telling you its just as enjoyable experience alone as it is in a group. Its a multiplayer game and they try to shoehorn you to do so even more than they tried to force you to be a minuteman in Fallout 4. PvP is a joke so the CoD gamers will dislike it and Bethesdas usual customer base will dislike it bc how theres no rpg in the game. So you're left with a huge world with so little content that its sad its a $60 price tag on it. Its not worth 60, if you're dying to get it, wait a few months when the price will inevitably drop bc either they won't sell enough copies or won't be able to keep players interested to continue to log on. The game tries to be 2 different genres and fails to stand out in either one. Avoid unless you have money to burn. If you're on the fence, I'd say wait and see. Come back to the idea around Christmas, see what they've fixed, what they've done to improve long term playability and then make up your mind if this is for you.

    Pros
    -Huge world
    -Decent new enemies
    - Multiplayer questing can be fun at times
    - Is a loot simulator. If you enjoy looting in Skyrim or Fallout 4, it may be something you look forward to doing.
    - Game is brighter in some areas

    Cons
    - No npcs( it does matter in a huge world like this)
    - No story outside of reading (Bethesda hasn't done a good story in a very long time so maybe that's a plus?)
    - Rpg elements are completely gone
    - Recycled Fallout 4 EVERYTHING. Very little is different from that game, from design to profile. Very cost effective cut and paste.
    - Being shoehorned into playing with others. The game is pretty awful by yourself.
    - Very little challenge fighting enemies.
    - Gunplay and VATS is completely trash in this game and its not an effective shooter to aim manually exceptionally well.
    - PvP isn't interesting enough to keep people fighting.
    - Game seems confused on what it wants to be.
    - Game is unfinished. Bethesda has even admitted as much. So essentially you're paying full price for a game that's been shipped far too early and not even done yet. (Bethesda has a first day patch BIGGER than the WHOLE ACTUAL GAME! That should be a red flag on anyone on the fence about this game.
    - Without modders this time around, its up to Bethesda to fix their own bugs which they've proven they are poor at.
    - Bugs galore and framerates drop frequently.
    - Game lacks significant polish, seems thrown together in spots and the outdated Creation engine is showing its age considerably. Game overall seems rushed while I wouldn't call it a complete cash grab, its a cash in attempt. As I said before, if this didn't have Fallout in its title, it would be a flop, panned critically and player wide and forgettable within the first week.

It's 2018, HOW is it still possible to have such awful clunky controls?! Red Dead Redemption 2 just came out and it plays FANTASTICLY.

So for Bethesda to suddenly just release a ~new~ game, which is basically just an inversion of Fallout 4, scrap NPC storylines, scrap stagnant settlements, delay mods, and just throw everyone into an open world with each other, camping and fighting is bogus for what this game has consistently offered in the past, a personal experience. I don't know why they'd emphasize on the PvP aspect when the map is humongous with barely anyone in each server. Did the devs grasp nothing from the turnout of Elder Scrolls Online?

You don’t have to think beyond surface-level to get involved with Fallout 76, you can’t develop multiple theories inspiring multiple play-throughs. This game is like a post-apocalyptic dust bowl of GTA Online, but at least they even had a campaign lol. For Fallout this honestly doesn’t make any sense. It’s an empty sandbox. Can we at least get our own Dogmeats? Moreover, my heart aches without Curie to walk around with.

Mind you, it took a lot for me to initially dislike game—I am STILL trying to get into it as we speak—I spent months anticipating this new chapter, but now just want it to close. I want the $80 wasted back into my pocket. I still respect Bethesda for prior releases, but this game is an utter disappointment and more or less highway robbery.

I'd cut some slack if this wasn't a series that has worked wonders with creating a survival realm. How do you spend years designing beautiful games, developing a worthwhile franchise to release a flop? No dialogue to choose from!!! Come on. Not even random raider d-bags shouting at you.

What would a DLC even look like at this point? Far Harbor was one of my absolute favorite expansions, but without NPCs, no dialogue, no definitive campaign, no companions, no settlements, nothing that has enveloped Fallout in the past, I don't plan on spending money any further. I am baffled that I feel this way about a Fallout game.

With Fallout 76, it seems that Bethesda has stripped away the aspects of the game that made it worthwhile, and lazily left in everything that made it so frustrating and broken. Even most of the bugs and broken mechanics that were in Fallout 4 initially are still here, along with a slew of new issues. The game just feels like garbage to play, and it looks like a total mess. I'm glad I played this game on a friend's machine instead of purchasing it myself, and I feel bad for all of the people who foolishly pre-purchased it at full price (with even more milking to come through microtransactions and future DLC).

The gameplay experience with other players is for the majority of the time good, everyone tends to help each other, but obviously the style of the game means people will be constantly at you too, 2 or more against one is hopeless and you can just watch any effort you've put in be destroyed. You only have a "camp" and a very small area and budget to build something, this is the only thing that remains when you log off the server. All other captured bases and structures are gone instantly.

There is no real story, the game feels dead inside with the lack of life and only robots you can "interact" with but no more than pushing a button for a random quote from them. This game is horribly disappointing. The only way this game could be redeemed some what would be if I could have the Fallout world to myself and my friends, not every random moron or give me the option of having players attack me or not (excluding captured base areas). Was it really that difficult to make a game that would have suited a wider audience? Not a minority.

After all that BS about #SavePlayerOne they take a game that has always been a single player RPG and turn it into a micro-transaction filled, monetized to hell, MMO. Then they do not even do that right.

Call me biased, call me a hater. I do not care this game is garbage. No NPCs, horrible game play and full of bugs and glitches. Bethesda and ZeniMax sold out and wanted to jump on the Fortnite, Battle Royal, MMO money train...but they had no idea what the hell they were doing. It is NOT fashionable to hate this game, it is logical. There is bad press for a reason.

Imagine a re-skin of Fallout 4, but then strip out the characters, engaging story and add more bugs.

Graphics have NOT been improved upon, this feels like the graphics from an Xbox 360 and frame rate drops into an unplayable mess every other minute. (Look up F076 frame rate tests).

The "Quests" are given to you via Holotape (audio recording) and Terminal entries (text to read on in game computer). There are no NPCs, so interactive dialogue is out of the window. These quests are all the same; stumble across a tape/terminal, go to the waypoint the tape/terminal tells you to goto and kill the enemies. QUEST COMPLETE. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Most of the time, the enemies are exactly the same and not interesting.

The world doesn't change. You can goto an area, clear out the enemies and set up a camp. After you wander off or log out and come back, ALL of the enemies will be there and attack you. It feels like you as the player, make absolutely no impact to the world around you. Which, kind of is the point, isn't it..? "When the fallout clears and the doors open, you must rebuild." (Paraphrase).

Camp items are all locked, you need to discover recipes for a chair/bed/door/turrets etc. Which doesn't sound bad, but they are very difficult to come across. THEN you need to actually source the resourced to build the item like in Fallout 4. The items should not have been locked, resource gathering would have been enough. This makes camp building extremely slow and not in a fun way, which was annoying because it was one of my more enjoyable elements of Fallout 4. (Also, you cannot raid player bases, neither do they show up on the map unless you have them in your team.)

For information on bugs, just YouTube Fallout 76 bugs, you'll see for yourself.

Multiplayer is clunky and PvP is completely broken. On paper, the anti-griefer system looks great, However, in-game it is horrific and doesn't work. Imagine there is someone in your camp stealing your food or blocking your door, you shoot them. if they don't shoot you back and engage in combat, you can not kill them unless you stand there and shoot them with 100 shotgun rounds one at a time (Providing they don't heal).

Playing this game solo is impossibly boring, there is nothing to keep you emotionally engaged or to motivate you to progress.

If you are having fun in this game with your friends, fair enough. But let me ask you this, has there ever been an open world multiplayer that you and your friends haven't had fun in? Don't get confused with where the fun is coming from, your personalities or the game.

Even as a long-time Fallout fan, this is honestly the worst game purchase I have ever made. I have played the game for approximately 40 hours now and not one of those hours were fun. It was more about me trying to justify the £60 I had spent and slowly realising what an awful mistake I had made.

SAVE YOUR MONEY. This game will not get good enough with updates to warrant the amount of money this costs, it should be a free-to-play add-on to Fallout 4. An example of what should have been done with this is how Rockstar implement Online into Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, not charge full game price for what is basically a map expansion with no content in it.

PURCHASING THIS GAME ENCOURAGES LAZY GAME MANUFACTURING IN THE FUTURE. MAKE A STATEMENT AND GET THE GAMING INDUSTRY BACK ON TRACK. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS LEVEL OF CONTENT AFTER THREE YEARS OF PRODUCTION TIME FROM A TRIPLE A STUDIO WITH A MASSIVE BUDGET. DON'T GET MANIPULATED BY PRETTY MARKETING. (If they had spent half their ad budget on the game production they might have actually made something good.)

Still awful, the battle royale mode is severely lacking and unoriginal. This game has been out for almost a year, and yet there are very few noticeable improvements.

This game had a lot of potential but that is where it stopped. To be fair, the graphics are beautiful but I didn't pay $60 to look at a pig with lipstick. The forced PvP is bad enough but to lock private servers behind a pay wall is simply a money grab directed at the core audience of the Fallout series. Here we are, two years after release, and they still haven't produced the game that was originally advertised. At a minimum it is false advertising and what it feels like is complete incompetence. This is the longest Beta release in Bethesda history...wait, not that is Skyrim but that is another story. Between the game breaking bugs, the griefers, and the out of control monetization for things that should simply be included indicate that their only goal for this "game" is to milk as much money out of people without actually providing what they sold. Sorry Bethesda, I wanted so much to love this game but you have overtaken EA as the worst publisher. Monetization is one thing but trying to monetize an incomplete game and then trying to sell the fixes as "new features" is disgusting. Expand

This is NOT Fallout as we know it. This game is BOOOORING and tedious. The lack of NPC's leaves the game feeling hollow and you feel shortchanged as a player. I am a huge Bethesda fan but whoever decided to take the franchise in this direction should be fired. It is really that bad. This is not a game worth buying.

I'm having huge buyer's remorse for this. And they don't accept refund now!! What a shame... This game clearly shows what greed can do once great RPG game studio. Shame on you Bethesda.

Online only, no NPC, micro transactions, lag, bugs and glitches left and right. Absolute mess of a game in all fronts that don't deserve to carry the Fallout brand.
Avoid at all costs. Vote with your wallet.
This is not a real Fallout game.

So seriously Bethesda... what the f**k? Is this how you treat your fans, your loyal customers? With pathetic cash grabs riddled with bugs and with a side of microtransactions as well? And what about the "No. Only Cosmetic" promise for loot boxes that Pete Hines stated on Twitter and other empty promise Todd Howard made?

You have become a meme of the gaming industry and you seem like you have no friggin' clue about what you're doing... Such a shame, you are losing credibility by the day and you're not doing anything to amend the situation.
Regarding the game, it's simply a mess, don't bother with it, don't waste your time, there are still (fortunately) many better games out there, I would not recommend this game to anyone.

The game is just not friendly to multiplayer. Yes, you may get fun from coop-play with friends. But random players, even if they has friendly attitude, will take exp and loot if they are near you.
There are no in-game benefits even when you team up with them.

Absolutely perfect example of modern Bethesda Game Studios. A hollow, empty shell of a game designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator and idiot casuals, while sacrificing core fans to the altar of their one fervent god, MONEY.

The performance is laughable for a multi-billion dollar company who has funds to spare. The graphics are years behind, and they continue to insist on

The performance is laughable for a multi-billion dollar company who has funds to spare. The graphics are years behind, and they continue to insist on the use of their now ancient engine. The game is riddled with bugs and Bethesda should no longer get a free pass for this. It reaches a point where it ceases to be funny, and starts to become grating.

If you're a fan of games with depth, substance, good writing and characterizations, then do yourself a favor and steer way clear of this, it's not the Fallout you love. but instead an abomination made by devs and publishers who don't give a **** about anything more than bogging their pockets down with as much of your money as they can at the expense of everything else

Weird game in a semi-fallout universe with terrible and dated graphics and inconsistent story. With VATS removed, you just stuck with a terrible shooter with clumsy controls. Seriously, Bethesda, just check people feedback, admit the project went completely wrong, stop it and make a Fallout 5.

    They killed Fallout. Twice.

Fallout 4 was a joke and I don't even want to mention this low-quality Fallout-themed Rust clone. I will just pretend that it doesn't exist. Bethesda should've left it to Obsidian, those guys clearly knew what to do with the franchise, but it's too late now since Obsidian was bought by Microsoft. Someone at Bethesda wrote a no-NPC multiplayer mod for a non-patched version of Fallout 4 and tossed a Fallout 76 title on it. This is a slap in the face of every Fallout fan. I am honestly astounded at how much of a blatant cash grab this is.

Complete utter trash as a Fallout game. 0 out of 10 for taking a genre leading giant and debasing it into a tasteless cash grab with a slapped on Fallout tag. What was a great company has gone in a very disheartening direction, simplifying their games from true RPGs to Action Adventures which devolved into a Free Roam Shootem Up and now to whatever you call this. What was a great company has gone in a very disheartening direction, simplifying their games from true RPGs to Action Adventures which devolved into a Free Roam Shootem Up and now to whatever you call this. Absolutely pathetic there’s micro transactions when we have a quarter of a Fallout game here. Now to ignore the knife Bethesda put in my back and review it as a game on its own it’s probably a 5 or 6. Typical buggy launch that can be expected of these games (Really was Skyrim any better on release?). Shooting feels clunky as always and Vats has been altered to work in real time but it looks and plays stupid. Missions and story are very stale without NPCs to bring them to life. Graphics really show their age against other games this year like RDR2. Creation engine is as outdated as Gamesbryo was for New Vegas (They still made it work better than this however). As an MMO it has very limited pvp options and safe guards anyone from losing anything of value. As a survival game it’s hit and miss, they put the need to eat and drink however items are rarely ever scarce and there’s no real repercussion when you die. Big map that can have immersive Fallout times when your exploring the landscape alone or with a friend. Random people ruin immersion and fun with their wacky pink hair and colorful power armour cussing profanity over the mic. This is a medicorce apocalyptic half MMO, half Free Roam Shootem Up survival type game. Hilarious how Forbes defends them while they are always the first ones to get press coverage regarding their games. Yeah that’s totally not corrupt. Expand

As a survival game it fails, as a fallout game it fails, as an online game it fails. This game has nothing to offer anyone. I bought for ps4 but feel that the quality was so bad that it should be noted on all 3 pages for the game. Heck, when I returned the game to gamestop the cashier knew what I was returning before I even pulled it out because he apparently had gotten so many returns of the game. But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
