The game has had a huge turn around since release. The exploration is as addictive and rewarding as any other Bethesda game and is far more fun with friends!

I feel like although this had a bad launch, in a few months they’ve been able to turn this game around.

The story is interesting (and even more so with the return of NPC’s in future DLC), gameplay works like any other BGS game, other players are the friendliest I’ve met in an online game and the map is huge, 40 levels in I’ve barely seen anything. The game isn’t perfect by any means, but

But now as of 2020 I believe Falliut 76 has redeemed itself a little and I would say this is a really enjoyable game to play with friends Expand

Yes, the game is intended to be played with friends but you can't make a Fallout game without a proper story (it's like making a sandwich with no filling. The game needs more, I suggested before that you should be able to play in a solo world (like Forza Horizon 4). But what I didn't ask for is a 13$ monthly subscription. Bethesda basically revived Fallout 76 by adding the Wastelanders, this added life to Appalachia! For a person that has had the game since it came out, this is a HUGE relief. Thanks Bethesda. I loved the game since I bought it in 2021, because they had already corrected the errors it had. With Wastelanders, Steel Dawn and Steel Reign I enjoyed them, only the latter lacked more history. Still, the game is even more enjoyable when there are almost no bugs. Only there are a few Griefers that roam the game. Take precautions.

PVP is surprisingly well implimented all things considered, it is optional and based on mutual consent. the one noteworthy downside is that powerscaling does not hold up to some playstyles, which can result in PVE fights randomly getting very easy or uneccesarily punishing depending on your loadout and skills. the building system is tolerable, but copied from other games. the crafting of guns, food, alcohol, and armor is enjoyable and extensive. in bethesda fashion there are a lot of little easter eggs all across the map. events are enjoyable to play. it took a long time to get here, but i like it. the graphics could be better, but the world still looks nice. the world is well designed, and offers variety while also not feeling to packed. fast travel is costly (in caps) but cheesable, which in my opinion is the best way to do it. its a good bethesda game. it took 5 years to get there, but it got there.4/5 Expand

I understand the negativity on this game. The graphics resolution is poor, there is also a poor frame rate. The frame rate is punishing when you are trying to destroy hordes of baddies, particularly using the aiming mechanism of VATS. The shooting mechanics are just not accurate enough, IMO

The menu system is dated perhaps but it is functional. It is clunky, but it works. Apparently, the stash hold is too small for many but isn't part of the game about stash management.

I honestly do see what they have tried to do without the NPC. You have left the vault (76) after being given the all clear from Nuclear Holocaust. The only population that will be freed on to the wilderness will be those from vault 76, no other infrastructure will be around, no other groups and no other individuals. It will be a lonely place. The plan is to get all those from Vault 76 to work together as per overseers instructions, in a world void of humanity.
The cooperation element doesn't work for, I've had the opportunity to join groups but haven't done so. There is no chat system of note, this side needs a bit more development. Only 20 players per servers suggest little scope for hooking up with others. You need 50 - 100 to have an effective human eco-system. The human ecosystem is way too small to allow for sufficient multiplayer.

My camp always disappears when I leave the server, surely, your camp should remain permanent. Not sure why this happens.

So yes, there are significant flaws in the games. but strangely, I'm enjoying the experience. It's a testament to the game concept and game premise that perhaps keeps people tied to the game.

I found Fallout 4 boring, but the story structure here seems to always keep me moving around the map. Fallout 4 didn't do that.

I've lost server connection on a few occasions in about 20 hours playing. Frustrating.

So yes, it is a frustrating experience, sadly one that is too common nowadays.

Luckily, I have unlimited broadband download at a good speed. To recieve an update of 53Gb on this game, would be a serious pain for many. 50Gb or 100Gb download would be significant limit for many. How can they do this? DO THEY RECEIVE ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR SUCH LARGE UPDATES. All games do this now where they replace the whole software with updated versions. I suspect they get a degree of revenue back from the internet suppliers.
This abuse by the games industry must be stopped. yes, having updated product is great but there are repercussion for the end user. More consideration please.

back to Fallout 76. yes, it can look ugly, yes it has low frame rate, or no frame rate at times, its systems are tried and tested with the game engine very old now (it is showings age). A lesson for the developer, get that engine updated because you will lose kudos. Fans deserve the best experience for their buck and yes, the engine has served the developer well but in this day and age, such a product release would be a problem.
Give the game ago, but wait for the sales, IMO.

I want more CAMP space to build. Bigger stash. Harsher consequences for death. PVE & PVP servers. Remove level caps on everything. The level caps make no sense at all in a game like this.

If you haven't played the game, and aren't making a critique on what you like/don't like in a vacuum from comparisons to what you have played/wanted, shut up and go away. You are an idiot.

There isn’t a huge amount of depth available when it comes to the game’s story what is available has actually been done pretty well. There are a few problems when it comes to the presentation side of things but on the whole I enjoyed what both the visuals and sound design delivered to me. The world in which the game takes place is big it just doesn’t hook you and that’s mainly because it lacks excitement and livery. Technically the game suffers with an array of issues which hold the game back. Each quest I went on in the game lacked excitement and there wasn’t much fun to be had along the way. There is a lack of variety present in the enemies you face in the game as well. In terms of replay ability the game doesn’t have much at the moment because everything is repetitive. I’ll admit to you now that I had some reservations when I first learned that Fallout 76 was going to be online only and by the looks of different forums I wasn’t the only one who had reservations with this. I love the Fallout style though so I was ready to look past this and play Fallout 76 with my mind completely open, and that’s exactly what I did. Unfortunately though after a brief amount of time it became clear that this game is filled with problems and in a way it just doesn’t have the formula the previous game’s had. I always enjoyed traversing in the previous Fallout game’s, but traversing around in this game just lacked it's the fun of its predecesors. The quests are further hindered by the various technical issues in the game and when it’s all said and done there’s just too many issues which in turn hold the game back. At the end of the day as it stands at the moment I can’t recommend a higher score for Fallout 76 to you because it just has too much wrong with it. This is a shame because it does get some things right like the solid gunplay but the good things it does get right are quickly forgotten and in the end all that you’re left with is a shell of what the Fallout series has always been. Hopefully updates in the future will make theme more enjoyable and what it was intended to be from the initial concept. Expand

Since multiplayer aspect has to be balanced, the rest of the game is more of a give and take. The new perk system is somewhat confusing but decent. Weapon condition has been reintroduced to the franchise, but there are workbenches and junk everywhere so fixing something is only a short sprint away. Some weapons and perks have level requirements, but these pack a punch when you finally equip them. Every item you pick up has realistic weight to it (yes, even ammo at .003/round). Enemies aren't tanky but they aren't one shot either. In all honesty, it just feels like what it is: a fallout game retooled for multiplayer. It has great potential to be a fun and balanced game for players, but truth be told, it's no botw. Expand

Though I will admit having some human NPCs would be nice, being able to not only be a vendor yourself but going to other players camps and being able to buy and sell there is a great fix. While the quests are for the most part fun, some can feel repetitive. However, I thoroughly enjoy walking throughout the open world and attacking creatures of all sorts! the crafting is a nice touch and I love being able to move my C.A.M.P whenever and wherever I want too. I recently moved it from the mountains down to the river for a better view and to be closer to a water source. The hunger and thirst aspect of the game is refreshing because IT's not a choir to do. The shooting and fighting mechanics feel a lot like Fallout 4 and I'm loving it! And last but certainly not least is the Survival BETA. it's what fans like myself have been wanting for a LONG time! It is a more hardcore survival experience that makes you care about stealth, managing your resources and have an all-around better awareness of your surroundings. So I decided to try and give the game another chance and to be honest I’m glad that I did. It’s not perfect right now there needs to be some balances to the game but it sure seems to be running a lot more stable. I’m only halfway through the story but I have to say I’m really enjoying the game play and the changes from the DLC and patches. I defiantly look forward to the Wastelander DLC so I plan on finishing the story before that. Also Nuclear Winter is surprisingly very fun even though every game is throwing in a Battle Royal. It’s quick matches and fun to be in the fallout universe. Right now I would say the game is at a 7/10 with all the changes so I hope when the new DLC comes out it will make the game a 9/10 or 10/10, as well as bring in some of the choices and consequences that make Fallout one of my favorite RPG universes. The story is incredibly weak, relying on holotapes and robots to tell it. Rewards for completing quests and events are underwhelming and not worth the time and effort put into them. The stash limit also becomes a liability when you run out of room to stash your gear because of all the junk you've collected. The amount of bugs & glitches are just ridiculous, and unacceptable for a AAA title.

Above all, it just feels like an unfinished game, and I guess that's partially true. But it feels like it was rushed through development so as to be released in time for the holidays. This game had so much potential, and still does. But Bethesda has yet to show us that they have the ability to utilize it. I'm giving this a 6 to be generous, in hopes that it somehow manages to pull a No Man's Sky on us. In other words, come back and play this game a year from now.

People need to stop and ask if it is really that bad.

Yes, this could've been done so much better, this came from the same studio that cancelled Prey 2 because of quality issues. So for them to release this without at least acknowledging the bugs is surprising. Huge updates are coming in and with not much-changing quality-wise, it puts me to edge the wonder if they even care. Fans and Bethesda say they're gonna fix something, all I can say is by god they better.

The graphics, my lord the graphics. Bethesda really tried to act like Fallout 76 was gonna make GTA 5 look like damn Super Mario 64. Spoiler alert, it's basically the same as Fallout 4. I'm not one to care much about graphics, but this is Bethesda! At least make this games graphics look better than the last one like every other company does.

And look, if you're bored from Fallout 4, hate to say it, but 76 doesn't have much more to offer. Yes, there is multiplayer and nukes to launch, though other than that, that's the only thing I really think of that stands out from 4. Though if you're missing Fallout 4, you want to jump into the wasteland again, this may be something to consider trying.

(Small spoiler alert, skip to next paragraph to avoid)
Alright the story: don't expect much. From what I played it's about the overseer (leader) of the vault trying to pick up some research about the "Scorched", victims the mysterious disease infecting West Virginia. It's alright. Though I wish they kept NPCs for this, instead of throwing a bunch of damn pieces of plastic around, or holotapes as known, where you hear them but not see them. It gets boring over time and it feels more lonely than intriguing.

There are a couple of things I liked about the game overall though. Fallout 4 had the most depressing and gloomy map I've ever seen. That was what deserves the title "Fifty Shades of Gray". But in 76, there so much colour around the map, from the dark gloomy land of mines Ash Heap to the white and snowy Toxic Valley with amusement parks. This games colours and map really is fun to explore and sightsee.

Overall, this game has its problems no doubt. But overall it feels like an ordinary Fallout game, just with a few changes that weren't pleasing.

Server instability isn't fun but this game is fun. If you've loved Fallout 3 and 4 you'll love this game. You don't have to have friends to play with to really enjoy it. Playing with friends does make it much more enjoyable. Easy to gather Atoms so you don't have to spend real money. Easy to avoid grifters as well.

The survival mechanics are a slog for the first 10 or so hours. At a high level the game gets better. Unfortunately very few character builds are viable against high level bosses. The new VATS system works poorly.

Critically though, it needs a lot more of everything. And then some. The character build is fairly basic. Some buildings are walled off. The amount of items is good but all that can be done with them is junk for parts. They have a ground model but once you pick objects up you then deposit them in a paper bag. No ground model. So you can't say, pick up that foot in a jar and deposit as a gift to someone. It's now a paper bag. Not good. Cant collect objects for decor.

Small things that can be fixed. I hope they add more of everything. It has some moments of real great atmosphere. It's almost there with that creepy haunted house vibe. I'll thrash it out some more. I'm actually writing this waiting for their update 21 patch.... Still waiting. Patch doesn't look to have anything new, just bug fixes and some sort of competition events. Hope they do more useful items and creatures and vendors and NPC's. Maybe some pets, like a pack mule and a sewer rat.. Put Travelling salesmen in again too. Hope there's fishing too. Saw a fishing rod. Put it away for later. Hope it's not just junk. I don't want this to be a full shooter. If I want that I will go play Battlefield series. I want Fallout survival horror. Have to wait and see, but I get the feeling this game too basic to hold my attention for long.

All that said, in conclusion it is well worth the ticket price for a wander around a work of art. Even at full price I think it would be worth it. I hope they keep building on it.

Wastelanders: Honestly one of the Greatest Fallout Stories written. It starts off pretty well, where you have to inoculate the Raiders and Settlers against the Plague that wiped out the survivors of Appalachia. The next missions are basically to build up your trust with the factions and ultimately decide with who you want to raid Vault 79 and get the gold. If there is a sequel to that, im looking forward to it.

Steel Dawn: It felt a bit short since there were only 8 Missions. But since it only is the first chapter of the new Brotherhood, it was enjoyable. The missions were enjoyable and the NPCs introduced with the update were also good. While Knight Shin might be not the most likable NPC you encounter, he is lore friendly and basically represents what the Brotherhood is. It had one surprise where the Paladin betrays the Brotherhood and destroys the only communication signal. In Overall, im also looking forward to the next chapters in this DLC.

And hopefully, in 2021, Bethesda releases an Enclave DLC.

    Gameplay:

To be perfectly honest, all the best guns are locked behind a decent grind to level 50, which will take you a while since there are no exploits in the game which level you up fast, and the guns are balanced, but something feels wrong with finding a gun and not being able to use it, while it is absolutely understandable.

But the Gameplay can be fun once you encounter Fallout Monsters and fight them with your friends, unless the AI is crap.

    Lore:
I liked the Lore in the game, despite of it being set in a timeline which certainly is not the best. The holotapes were boring sure, but they were lore friendly etc. In Overall, I liked the lore, but the timeline certainly could be better.

    Map;

Fallout 76 is a great open world, with its huge map and different regions. At launch, the map felt empty, since there were no NPCs. Now it also feels partially empty, but it still is a blast to explore and the best map in the Fallout Series.

    Graphics:

From afar, this game looks beautiful, many viewpoints show you beautiful vistas and i loved it. From up close, the graphics are only a bit better than Fallout 4, since bethesda does not enhance their engine for some reason. But most of the graphical bugs which were there at launch were fixed, although you might encounter some graphical shadow bugs.

    NPCs:

Most of the NPCs are well acted and it is enjoyable to talk to them, also the Dialogue System is a huge improvement from Fallout 4.

    Technical:

Fallout 76 is buggy. While exploring, I have not encountered bugs besides the shadows etc. I encountered Audio Bugs while doing Events with many other people, instead of hearing the many other gun sounds i heard bizarre sounds. The game technically is better and does not crash often, the quests are sometimes buggy, you can't interact with NPCs or Intercoms sometimes, the disconnections from servers were surprisingly minimal. In overall, it has improved.

    Verdict:
    6,5/10

The main story is boring, but the Wastelanders and Steel Dawn are really really well written! The Gameplays best parts are locked behind a huge grind, but is often rewarding and fun when the AI is not crap. The Lore is good in my opinion, but the timeline and when it is set clearly are not the best and since bethesda's fallouts only happen in the 2270 or later, it would not have been a bad idea to make fallout 76 happen in 2280 instead of 2103, but in overall, the holotapes are lore friendly and do a good job, while ruining the story. The Map is an absolute blast to explore, but feels partially empty. The bugs with graphics were mostly fixed, and the game is beautiful from afar, but only a bit better from up close than Fallout 4. The NPCs are generally well acted and the dialogue system is a huge improvement from Fallout 4. It partially is technically rough and buggy, but in overall the updates and the Support from the Developers made the game a lot better and Wastelanders and Steel Dan are solid foundations to build the future story of fallout 76 on, and the game can absolutely be as good as Fallout 4 and recover from its reputation, since it always had and has potential.

I have had to rely on exploits to fix the issues I have with it such as the infinite carry weight. The carry weight and shooting mechanics alone are enough to force you to use a Strength build so that you have enough carry weight (before I used the exploit) and don't have to shoot much. There is also the damn scaling on enemies that I think is working in the background, If a damn level 50 player with 15 Strength cant come in and one shot a level 10 with a melee weapon then wtf even is the point of levels. There are also areas that are clearly designed around a group of players which causes you to get overrun and killed even though it's also meant to be able to be played solo.

There are bugs I don't need to say much more about them except that I think this is the buggiest game I have ever played. The performance is atrocious on Xbox One X, other consoles and even PC from what I have seen online, which is unacceptable especially on the more powerful machines. Fun with friends, the world can be beautiful at times and hideous at others, the world is fun to explore but can be a chore when you factor in the difficulty spikes I mentioned and the story is there if you decide to look for it.

I really hope Bethesda can fix this game and improve it in the future because there is potential there. Fix your engines flaws, improve it and don't let this same **** happen again to Starfield and TES VI (I will actually be waiting for reviews before I buy those ones),

When I bought this game I tried hard to love it like I've loved the previous Fallout games, but this one just doesn't have it. The world is interesting, and can be beautiful, but that doesn't save this game. Too many problems already exist. Even now with most of the bugs fixed, there are fundamental problems with design of the game. With a Fallout game, we expect to have choices, to make meaningful decisions, but this option does not exist here. There aren't any human NPCs, and there aren't any options for dialogue. Theoretically this was supposed to be made up for by interacting with other players, but it just doesn't work in the way that it should. I gave this game a 5 because it has moments of real brilliance, where everything clicks, but it doesn't happen often enough to justify the purchase. Expand

    - The C.A.M.P. system lets you build up your base almost anywhere outside mapped areas, and when you want to move, you can pack it back up and take it with you.
    - The ability to team up on the fly, with selectable voice chat options, means you can work together when you want to. I ended up teaming up with a rando right out of the vault, and it made exploring way more fun.
    - The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system has been reworked. You start with 1 in every category, and improve them as you level up. You also get perk cards that have their own value. You can then stack perk card on an attribute up to that attribute's level. So if my Perception is 3, I can stack 3 level 1 perception perk cards on it.

    Cons:
    - The biggest issue for me is that there are no NPCs other than random robots (either with a quest or selling stuff). Most quests are found by reading notes or listening to holotapes, which (pun intended) just feels hollow. This also means if there isn't anyone else around, you feel very truly lonely.
    - There are level caps on items, and in order to craft better gear you need to find blueprints which seem few and far between.
    - There are bugs and glitches (world clipping, spawning loop issues, etc), but hopefully they will be fixed in the near future.

I'm not one that's given much to levying a whole slew of complaints about any given topic without offering suggestions. To me, that's just whining. In essence, this game is far from perfect. It has a whole host of issues ranging from issues pertaining to graphics, to storyline, and everything in between.
First I will focus on the positive aspects of the game. If you're into multiplayer games, this game is all right. You almost have to have a crew in this game in order for it to be truly interesting. In a way, it really does appeal to me because it requires socialization and communication amongst teammates.
Secondly, I come to the negative side. In my opinion, gear needs to be scaled to your level. What good is a level 20 rocket launcher but I'm only a level 10? It just doesn't make sense to me that I would obtain this rocket launcher ten levels before I can use it. Additionally, there seem to be many bugs in this game. The biggest one in my opinion is the fact that I get kicked out of the server on occasion. This can be a real bummer esspecially in a multiplayer game. Also, I've seen creatures such as the behemoth just sitting in the middle of the lake, not moving. I don't know whether to target him or avoid him?
Now for suggestions. Bethesda already has a rather successful MMORPG on the market. If they are hell-bent on making fallout an RPG style game, they shouldn't do a sloppy job at it. One of the things I like about Elder scrolls online is that you can complete the quest in whatever order you choose, in both you and the creatures deal damage in proportion to your level. You can run across a level 30 creature when you're level 10, ever. The same should be true for fallout. Additionally, the map should be much bigger. I'd even say quadruple the size of it. They should also have more players on the server as well. Think World of Warcraft; which brings me to my next point, they should really consider clan system. Another common complaint I've heard in the some extent I agree with that is that it will remain true to the Lord surrounding the fallout story. Every good game is a story, it has a pretext and then the storyline. This naturally leads me to the fact that there is no overarching story here. A good game has a really good story behind it, an ultimate quest which should take the player quite a while to achieve, daily quests, and numerous side quests and ultimately this question be given by real humanoid NPC's. Some don't see the utility in having humanoid NPC's, but there is a psychological factor at play here because the game feels really lonely without them. Especially when you only have a few dozen people on the server. I think many of these issues can be addressed by issuing a few patches and a really awesome, but heavily discounted DLC which would serve as an apology to the customers that were disappointed an incentive for new customers to buy the game.

To me, this is a MULTIPLAYER game so the fact that you can be on the same mission as your friend and at the same part but doing their instance does NOT credit your mission is SUPER annoying! Enjoyable for at least a few hours of gameplay, but need friends to play with after that. Pales in comparison to Fallout 3 and New Vegas as a single player experience.

The game has many bugs and issues and should be labeled as early access title. But exploring the huge world, collecting loot and finding new weapons and lore items is still very fun. If they fix the issues it could be a great game. The cosmetic microtransactions are very expensive (12-18 € for a skin).

Bethesda being well known for their glitches has in fact come in to 76 whether its a mission bug where you can't complete the game or forces you glitching through walls or enemies or not being able to sell items to vendors you will encounter tons of bugs. PVP seems to be extremely watered down i encountered one other person who was attacking me in the game decided to match off with him,he ended up killing me and was a very boring experience no fun or threat or loss of items really just some crafting materials your left with all your main stuff. How much you can carry is definitely a HUGE issue in the game i found only after 4 hours of playing having to drop rare and valuable guns and items just to make some room so your not carrying more weight than you can handle. I am really upset that this will be the last fallout game will see likely of this console generation and for the foreseeable future and hope when Fallout 5 comes out its the experience it once was. Maybe it will do a No Mans Sky and turn into something pretty decent eventually, but at launch this game should be avoided. It is currently drowning in problems both technical and creative and just generally feels like a game thats still in development and about a year off launch.

    - Lack of NPCs takes away a lot of the motivation to explore and pretty much kills PvE, especially solo.

All you're ever going to find is a holotape or note.

    - The PvP system is also quite poorly implemented. Anyone you attack will take drastically reduced damage unless they retaliate, the world is huge and resources are plentiful so theres just no real incentive to do it right now.

    - The world is ironically too much of a wasteland. Some of the environment design is decent but with no proper NPCs (other than protectrons, Mr Handys etc that have limited dialogue) and a very small amount of other human players around (relative to the size of the map) it feels like you're walking through an abandoned museum. Yes, its supposed to be post apocalyptic, but this takes that way too far.

    - The hunger/thirst mechanic is just an annoyance that gets in the way. You need to eat and drink far too often and of course most food/drink gives you radiation.

    - The game lags to absolutely preposterous levels as times. I'm talking literal slideshow.

    - A lot of times it feels like enemies simply materialised 5 feet behind you then darted at you at 100mph with absolute laser focus in a way that you couldnt possibly have pre empted. You can be in the middle of an empty field and then 2 seconds later getting swarmed by enemies that were nowhere to be seen.

    - Graphically its if anything slightly worse than Fallout 4 was.

It can be mildly entertaining for an hour or so here and there in co op with friends, but most things are. To reiterate - I strongly recommend you wait and see how (or if) Bethesda fix this game, and what they add to, before you consider buying it.

PS: Gotta love Bethesda spending time implementing microtransactions when the game has a myriad of serious issues that they should be working on first. Absolutely shameless.

A soulless husk of a game with nothing more than re-used assets from Fallout 4. Terrible bugs and glitches that far exceed what fans have come to expect from a Fallout game. This is not the usual charming jank that are present in all Bethesda games. Crashes quite often, sometimes up to 3 times in as little as 2 hours, though I'm playing on the Xbox one s and not the X. Maybe it will play better on the X I don't know. The thing is though even if this was a perfectly polished experience that ran smooth consistently it would still be utterly boring. I was at level 12 I think before I decided to walk away for good and I rarely saw any players, and on the off chance that I did, none of them were even remotely interested in fighting or doing anything more than a wave as to say hello. Then again why would they fight me because even if they do kill me they get ABSOLUTELY nothing lol. There is no reason to fight another player. So co-op then right? Good luck getting a party together. You will spend 80% of your time getting it to work right. All in all this game is an embarrassment all around. Old engine, new engine, updated engine, it doesn't matter the game sucks to play and to even look at. How awesome would it be if Bethesda just gave the rights to Obsidian. Sure there were bugs in New Vegas but it was STILL one of the best Fallout games ever. If you are dead set on buying 76, do yourself a favor and wait until it hits about 20 bucks. Trust me it wont be long until it does. Expand

Fallout 76 should not come as a surprise to anyone complaining about the lack of human NPCs, this was disclosed at e3... so when you call it "empty" because of that, it is clear you either have not played at all, or played for 20 minutes but were dead set on hating it.

It looks like some of you should be thanking F76, especially YouTubers, because it has brought more attention, likes, and clicks, than anything else many people have done, congrats on your success, but you're all spouting the same complaints as the previous person.

Fallout 76 is bad simply because the game is unrefined and released way before it should have, whether that was Bethesda's or Zenimax's fault, it really does not matter, this game was rushed out and was designed to be a cash cow. Your fans did not want a multiplayer game, but were willing to try it out because of sheer loyalty, but this game is barely playable, due to abysmal frame rate, game-breaking bugs, uninspiring quests, useless pvp system, and an outdated engine... all of which could have been fixed, if more time was given to production.

There are some minor positives in this game that brought my score to a 4, simply, the new map is huge and has some interesting locations and biomes, playing fallout with friends is interesting and nice to finally experience, the lore is there in the form of terminals and holotapes which IS NOT FOR EVERYONE, but can still satisfy the most extreme of fans and is better to experience solo.

+ Nice, big open world to explore
    + Interesting environment/biome diversity
    + Some interesting lore stories
+ Good to finally experience Fallout with friends

    - Bugs, bugs, bugs
    - Poor frame rate
    - Outdated engine
    - Solo is still better than multiplayer
    - No incentive to participate in PVP
    - Micro-transactions are always bad
    - Rushed production, should not have been released in this state
    - Clunky hud and control scheme that is somehow worse than Fallout 4
    - Tarnished Fallout reputation for a quick cash in

Overall, as a Fallout fan, this is an absolute disappointment, and I am deeply concerned for the future of Bethesda's games, this looks like nothing but a cash-in to me, and I honestly wish Bethesda would just stick to creating single player games like they promised to with the Save Player One campaign that I have not forgotten about, for a reason. I have no doubt that this game could be improved in time, but this business of releasing unfinished games needs to stop, and now that it has happened to one of my favourite titles, I am incredibly disappointed in Bethesda, do better!!!

I love the world they have crafted. I like playing this with friends, which inherently makes the game fun for my personal expenses and possibly others.

I enjoy the 'survival' mechanics of the game and progression it provides to aiding your playstyle.

The innovations, where you have to scout out plans to craft your fortress, tho with some downsides but a good idea. The regions, another innovation giving all players places to go and fight to progress and not feel cheated at times, which again still issues. The settlement menu feels more fluid and easier to navigate, making it a joy to build, but that's all and now onto negatives. Now I'm level 37 and haven't discovered everything yet so the score could change but as it stands right now:

I hate stuttering. Never in my life have me and my mate felt so frustrated with a game where we enter a high-level area and the game decides to spawn not one, not 2 or even 5, but 15-20 enemies in the same locations. This threw us off and we were annoyed because it wasn't a quest to defend a workshop but the game-deciding to spawn in too many enemies that tho may seem to be a challenge, it stutters the screen. Even worse, they haven't addressed the automatic stuttering from the beta. Every time you fire an automatic, the game just starts to stutter and you end up missing a couple of bullets that could've killed them. I'm here trying to run a revolver and submachine gun build but can't cause the game decides to stutter. If this doesn't get address ASAP, this game isn't going to be as supported I'm afraid. My friend spoke on this in one of our sessions: What is a game with a beautiful open world to explore if it constantly lags on an ageing engine?

Limitations in the settlement are a pain in the ass. I get some of the premises behind it, being not being able to 'float structures' (to an extent) or building certain things. But you need plans for a rug, yes, a rug. Not the fancy bear ones but a simple rug. The budget is far too small or the budget cost for certain items like turrets and building is too much, either way, it prevents me from building a cool base for my mates and other players to hang out in the cause of the budget. Stash is also another issue. How the hell can i store items I may need later that are very valuable like most heavy guns and power armour bits if my stash had a limit? You simply can't.

Various bugs encountered, no surprise there. This one annoying bug has been really bullying my mate I play with and it's such a broken mess it drives him mad. The enemies that can melee him can do damage to him, even when it's not in range of him but still do the damage and he can't fight back, so he is basically fighting ghosts he can't kill. There are times where there would be naked versions for people characters that T pose, there are crashes which don't let you keep the workshops you claimed, the power armour skeleton glitch is back and many more I've not encountered but I'm sure you all have.

Having no NPCs for me is a big misstep in the wrong direction and makes the world empty, tho I can still play the game without them but it doesn't feel the same. All the charisma and flavour those NPCs had from previous games just made em so memorable and all were are here for is to listen to. I also don't like the linear quests, which is brought from fallout 4s story. Now I haven't done every single quest but from what I've done, it's all pretty linear. Do this, read that, kill it, listen, collect, defend all in its quest lines and now deviates from this formula that should've stayed in Fallout 4. But wait, its a "Fallout 4 multiplayer mod" as most tend to agree, where it has no NPCs and hasn't improved as much? maybe to an extent that your choice to decide.

Overall, Fallout 76 is an average experience for the player. If you like to play with friends, you will have a lot of fun with them. If you play individually, all the tools are there for you, but at the cost of losses, which you may not like. Though the game does provide good quality of life improvement and a rich world to explore, it is still plagued by issues of the creation engine with all the bugs and glitches that weren't touched and resolved. All I can personally say to Bethesda is this, "roll out weekly updates, patch issue consistently and keep making content, or else your game is going to suffer like it's starting.

But it is overly buggy, rendering is atrocious and the story is from dull to non-existent... The way the game runs is laggy, buggy, rendering is terrible even on a decent speed computer and the fact that the textures and look close up isn't much better than Fallout 4 worries me. Most of the textures and items had been copied over from the Fallout 4.
The game itself... The skeleton is there and I can see its potential, I hm not just here to **** all over the game, there is promise. The story is boring, not engaging and short, the side quests aren't very exciting and make me not care for the characters or lack there of... I think that the game could really benefit from NPCs, maybe add them into a DLC where they come from another vault. The format and the way the game plays seems not player friendly and rushed.
[I do like the new camera system, the idea of the field of view, the attempt at lighting and other experimental features... Also the nuke idea and the new monster are cool]

Overall I can't believe I took the risk and bought this full price, I am in shock and only play now because I feel I have to get my moneys worth.
I would advise against this game till it does a No Man Sky and does a 180 in a year, let us hope for its great future and hopefully Fallout 5

The whole MMO idea was great, but by removing EVERY human NPC (unless it's a dead body) was a really really bad idea, as reflected in the quest line, which is absolutely terrible.

The level of initial bugs was embarrassing, and this reflected in the game play. It was incredibly hard to play at times, with bugs like invisible enemies, environments not rendering, and quest lines not triggering correctly to name a few.

The map is fantastic, like awesome. It's huge, you'll never run out of places to find, it's really nicely designed, and just a very interesting place to explore. With a huge variety of environments and terrains, it's a really nicely done aspect of the game. It's just a huge shame the rest of the game lets the experience down.

I personally found that leveling up takes an absolute age... especially with boring repetitive quests, that don't really feel like they have any depth or interest at all. (Such as, find these objects, bring them here, or escort this robot to this location sort of quest) Like i've sunk 3 days of solid gameplay into it now somehow, and i'm not even level 50 yet. The special / perk system is also absolutely terrible. Fallout 3 had it perfect, Fallout NV improved on it, Fallout 76 took everything good about it and emptied it into a bin. It's a clunky confusing mess that really hinders your characters progression.

Item condition is back, which means your guns are now essentially made of paper apparently, with them breaking constantly. On the flip side, quite cool how condition has been applied to cooked food items / organic foods, as they can go off and spoil if not eaten in time.

The soundtrack (as in the atmospheric exploring music) is also great. Visuals are great, from landscapes to guns.

Overall, this game could've been absolutely amazing. It's just a shame it was botched so badly, meaning we got a really unsatisfying entry to what is a fantastic franchise. Can be fun if played with a few friends, but it gets tiring pretty quickly.

I dont usually write bad reviews, however I had to make an exception for this trash heap. Fallout 76 might just be the worst AAA game of 2018. Buggy, dated, and boring with next to no enjoyment to be found. It is sad when a fan mod does better then a AAA release, will not be preordering from Bethesda again.

First off, anyone giving this game a "10" are being completely dishonest and/or are trying to offset much of the low scores other users are giving this game.

Is this the Fallout that people loved? it is. However, it's like the kid voted "Most Likely to Succeed" and goes on to become an utterly hopeless junkie. They're still the same person, but just the worst version of themselves.

Let's discuss the graphics first. The game is slightly better looking than Fallout 4, but isn't as polished. You'll see tons of clipping issues, and you'll also see tons of things floating instead of resting on the ground.

The gameplay for the most part is the same as Fallout 4, except they made VATS real time. VATS occasionally works, and when it doesn't it's frustrating. Like, when you have 95% chance to smash a Stingwing with your super sledge, just to hear the thump of the hit and see your AP go down and the Stingwing take 0 damage. Then you see the same result the next 4 times you try it. VATS is only really useful to close distance in Melee or to land a shot on an extremely agile enemy.

Then there's the stash issue, and the fact that they lowered the base carry limit from the prior games. So having strength of 10 only gives you 200 units of weight you can carry before you become encumbered, and they give you 400 units for stash. Not to mention, this game is set in the "survival mode" of the previous Fallout 4 and New Vegas. So everything has weight. Oh, and good luck trying to sell anything. Vending machines have 200 caps to buy, and yet you can't sell to them. Vendor bots and various traveling merchants have 200 caps available to buy and it takes forever for them to restock; and when you buy from them, only a small percentage of the caps are returned to the vendors available caps. Also, you can't sell most items. When you can, you get pennies on the dollar; even with max haggling perks, everything always is sold to you at a significant mark up. This inventory issue was the biggest complaint throughout the BETA, and it's unacceptable that it wasn't fixed prior to launch. I've spent 99% of my time in game over-encumbered and unable to fast travel. I've been super encumbered, and forced to crawl , for way too long. That's with weight reducing perks and other tricks.

Then there are the broken quests. How do I love having my quest giver reside on the SW corner of the map and my objective being on the NE corner and get to the objective just to realise you can't interact with the object in order to complete the quest. Then another you need to search an area and install a tracking signal; only to have the tracking signal stop working; and when you quit, you have no way to install it again, so you it makes finding the item like looking for a needle in a haystack. I've come across at least 3 quests with quest breaking bugs.

Death in Fallout 76 is like Dark Souls, just instead of dropping all your souls on death you drop all your junk in a, at times hard to see, brown paper bag with all the junk you've accumulated. Usually, when you try to retrieve it while you have a marker to guide you, you either get ambushed by some radically OP mob of enemies like Death Claws, Glowing Ones, Wendigo, Scorchbeast and Yao Gui. They also have a real problem with enemy and weapon balancing, which can be compounded by getting swarmed by the mob of top of the food chain. I hit a KIng Mirelark with 2 mini-nukes, and it may have only took 1/4 of their health; and it was equivalent to the level of the Fatman I was using. Yet, back to my point on retrieving your loot after death, if you die before retrieving it, good luck trying to find it then afterwards. You'll still 400 units over encumbrance. Also, people can take your stuff if they get to it before you do.

Bounty system is broken, and because of it there is no way to escape PvP. You can open a nonplayer owned box, that clearly doesn't have a player owned item in it, only to get a message that you have a bounty for stealing another player's stuff. Yet when you actually take another player's loot from a world loot box, you get nothing. If you have "pacifist" mode on, it's literally like stealing candy from a baby for anyone hunting you. You do significantly less damage and they can do full. So never, ever, ever, put on "pacifist" mode. Player's can still kill you, and they usually wait to wail on you while you're in someway indisposed so they can whittle you to death, if you never intend to engage them back; and then they get a bounty for murder. You get like 10 caps for a bounty, and basic ammo is like 5 caps each at a vendor.

Final verdict, is the game fun or have some redeeming qualities? Yes, it can be fun. Even with the "emptiness" and lack of civilized life, it has potential. The fact that they knew about these issues by no later than day 2 of the BETA and failed to fix it by launch, is why the scores, and mine, are so low.

I remember the days when QA was imperative to the release experience for players, when regulations were in place, and games couldn't release until expectations were met. Have Microsoft and Sony softened their expectations to stay in play while indie, pre-beta "free QA" marketing campaigns thrive? It would make sense if this were the case considering the quality of Fallout 76. It's horse manure with a garnish of mutfruit.

When I heard 4 was coming, I exploded with excitement, I was so happy the day I had Fallout 4 in my hands I could have died. Fallout 4 was a good game in my opinion, I was only slightly disappointed about minor changes. It was my least favourite I had played so far, but I still loved it.

But anyway, this year, when the 76 trailer dropped, I again, was ecstatic, I stayed up until 3 in the morning (Despite the fact I had exams next day) waiting for any news on 76, and I was really disappointed, but optimistic. I got the power armour edition this Monday, I had played some BETA, and the helmet etc was amazing, but, when holding the little steel book which the game was held in, I wasn't excited. Here's the pros and cons.

(This is what ive gathered from my 8 hours BETA playtime, and my 5 hours full game time)

    Pros:
Finally, a wasteland I can explore with my friends! (if my friends bought this game and weren't warning me about how crap the game was going to be)

    New lore! New places!

Meet new fellow Fallout fans! (Or a bunch of 10 year olds with all the spare time in the world to get power armour, new powerful guns etc, and trample over you when you say ''Hello!'')

(thats about all I can think of for pros)

    Negatives:

Fallout is a Role playing game, you cannot have this without exchange of dialogue. You cannot communicate with anything in game (Grafton Mayor for example) Though Fallout 4's 'Sarcastic' or 'No' dialogue options were lackluster, lazy and bad? Well, Now you cannot speak to anything in game, unless its another player, and theres a 99% they have no microphone, so you have to communicate with emotes. Weak.

Alone. You NEED a friend with a microphone to enjoy this game, otherwise its so lonely and deprived of any substance.

You need so many Caps its unholy. Whats that? You want to fast travel? 16 caps please. Whats that? you want this workshop? 60 caps please. You got killed? bye bye caps! In previous Fallouts, there were caps everywhere, and everything was free. Now I feel like Ebeneezer Scrooge, 'Do I pay 36 caps to teleport there, or do I walk?'

Brain dead story. With no Npcs to play with, your rely on the odd robot or holotape to tell you where to go, or to get an item. Boring fetch quests. Really Bethesda?

Welcome to Little Lamplight! Kids galore. Kids with no mics, roaming around in gangs, killing as they please because they have a **** ton of spare time to level up, get op guns armour etc. Anyone under 14, please go back to Fortnite. This game is suffering enough without sweaty children roaming the map.

Bugs are a huge problem, whether its textures loading painfully slowly (Fallout 3 looks like a work of art in comparison) or the servers lagging, or just some visual bug (A texture not loading for example) Bugfest 76 is full of glitches.

So much more. Vats, settlements, perk cards etc. I could go on for ages.

To summarise, what made Fallout great was its setting, and its genre. RPG. This Fallout is a shadow of its former self, if anything, this makes me want to just go play Fallout 4 again, to be reminded of what fallout is. This may be a good, fun MMO game, but its not a good Fallout Game.
I look forward to Fallout 5, four years away, with a mix of fear, and hope.

Seriously, just buy Fallout 3, 4 and New vegas and all the DLC's sor a fraction of the price, you will have a much better Fallout experience, wait until this thing is in the bargain bin, then you might consider buying it.

(The elder scrolls online was **** Bethesda, take a hint, Turning RPG story driven single player games and turning them into money grabbing, low common denominator sellout MMO's doesn't work.)

Controls are still Bethesda-style clunky and downright terrible when compared to most other games released today. It's a half-baked exploration game with a Fallout skin, and that's about as deep as the game goes. It feels like a constant grind for everything; loot, caps, experience, building materials, guns, etc. Not only is this massive playable area completely void and empty, so seems every area of anything interesting to loot.

I ran into a bug that had me stuck in an entering power armour animation that left me with no HUD and unable to move which left me defenceless against the 10 enemies that spawned right in front of my face. Usually, I would accept that it’s just a random bug but this animation has been around for 3 years, I can’t find a good excuse for it to be showing up now - especially in a title that supposed to surpass the previous titles.

The story is also luckluster, not having NPCs has harmed to game tremendously. It defeats the point of it being a Fallout title. How could they get this so wrong?

I’m so disappointed because I truly love Fallout, I want to love this game but I can’t find a reason to. I feel, left in it’s current state, this does nothing but harm a franchise that is so loved.

Here’s waiting for a year of updates to finally get a experience that feels like a $60 AAA title, a true Fallout experience 100GB update.

Sadly this formula does not translate well when you hobble the game by taking out NPCs and shoehorning in unneeded and ultimately worthless multiplayer. My gameplay style doesn't really translate well to playing in a group so after one session of constantly being separated as I meticulously explored every inch of the landscape I set out on my own.

This game revealed something I think I'd managed to completely forget since at least vanilla Skyrim. Bethesda games are not very good without mods. Being forced to care about a pointless thirst and hunger meter that never mattered as both things are plentiful as well as becoming constantly over encumbered as I tried to collect much-needed materials became far too tiresome for a game that was proving within 5 hours to have much less to offer F4 did.

Despite some interesting new enemies the world has very little to offer returning Fallout fans, best to just go back to F4 and tryout some new mods

The bugs are the same that have pledged Bethesda's last few titles some of these bugs even game breaking. Most of these bugs come from their nearly 7 year old engine called the creation engine that desperately needs to be updated becasue it's just barley better then it's forefather Gamebryo that was made in 1997. But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
