I love the edition of survival mode which adds additional difficulty and complexity to the game, making it truly feel like every descision you make while playing can have serious consequences. Its thrilling to run away from an enemy that would usually not kill you in a couple shots that you know might be able to one hit K.O. you and delete a chunk of progress. As great as the game is and as enjoyable as it is, it has some serious flaws that need to be addressed. The aiming feels clunky and its hard to be precise with your shooting, thankfully vats compensates for this issue but it definitely ruins some of the immersion. Additionally, even though this game has been out for about 3 years , it still is a bit laggy at times even though I am playing on an Xbox One X. Whats even more frustrating is that the game still froze for me once while I was playing , deleting an hour of gameplay since I am playing survival mode and can only save at a bed when there is one available. I got this game on launch and it definitely has improved since then, but at this point I expect the game to run flawlessly given 3 years of time and playing on an improved console. Overall, its an awesome game and really tons of fun, its a game you can easily get sucked into and lose track of time. Expand

I am a really big Fallout fan I started out playing Fallout 3 then played Fallout New Vegas and then I went on to play Fallout and Fallout 2. Really Fallout 4 was the first game I got for my PS4 and really thought it could be a really good Fallout game. Really I felt it was a little dumb down maybe for new coming Fallout players. Either way I kinda felt the enemies were made a bit too easy in fact there is a death claw very close to the start of the game that you just kill really easy, if this was one of the older Fallout games a death claw would really kill you and the thing is death claws were a bit more smaller than they are in this new Fallout game. Really and it's not just the fact that I hate the game just for one enemy I really felt they could do a little more to help out with the story of Fallout 4. There are a few things I like about this game like the fact that your health is now effected by how much radiation you take on so you have to keep your radiation low to make sure you keep in good health. Back in the older Fallout games if radiation got to 100% then you were dead and it didn't effect your health at all. I just feel like it makes more of a penalty for having radiation so you are more likely to avoid radiation. And don't get me wrong this game is good it's just not what it lived up to when it comes to older Fallout games. Expand

With the recent advent of Fallout 76, I wanted to cover this game before I jump over to the next entry.

The presentation is actually alright but nothing special compared to other games that came out the same year.

I heavily disagree with people calling it the worst Fallout game because Fallout Brotherhood of Steel exists and was once canon...

Overall, not a bad game but is heavily held back and can get repetitive once the main game is done. A great start for people interested in the Fallout Series but for veteran RPG players, it isn't a good option over New Vegas and Fallout 3, 2 and 1. Where Bethesda plans to take Fallout with Fallout 76 is still a mixed debate.

It's absolute garbage; Bethesda should be ashamed.

As a kid I used to play Morrowind on the PC, Watching your modding community flourish around the Construction Set was beautiful. The game itself didn't need character narration; the game was smooth, the characters were well thought out (Vivec, Dagoth Ur still bring a smile to my minds eye), There was a massive depth to your plot back then it seemed. I could depend on dropping into this RPG for hours at a time; if even just to play around with different cheats or spells for sillies. ( or even better mods from the community)
With Fallout 4 . . . on Survival. . . I hope you realize your engine's bugs crash the game every 30m - 2 hrs consistently right? yet the game of the year edition came out and i see no updates fixing these issues. . . seemingly you want everyone seeing a loading screen (laments; fast traveling in lower difficulty with a smaller loot tree)
every 30 min or the game will crash due to zone renderings, or any # of other immersion breaking issues.
( i have had cars thrown into me by companions instantly killing me, even discovered running into said cars sitting still can be fatal. . .)
I am sure every player has noticed falling cars from highways and other needless animations that bug up the engine, when all we did was max-craft our character to run fast through the zones (because minutemen) and here we are, un-immersed, probably broke due to the expansions/skins, and nothing to really show for it except our Bethesda Fandom. . . & all the aforementioned hours spent in a broken game you refuse to spend any time(or $) fixing . . . despite how much money we have literally just thrown at you.
I can't even fathom how much you probably make off these ripoff's you call creations in your club but it is downright despicable how you went from a Construction Set to a Creation Club. . .
& you think your better than EA. . . Tsk, tsk.

Watching the hype following your latest presentation at E3 I am feeling all sorts of deja vu when compared to f4's hype.
I am not enthused, I am not excited.
I am mildly disgusted and sad to see a great company brought so low by it's shareholder greed.

Until you start acting more like Cd Projekt Red
(you know a responsible game developer that keeps it's audience in mind, doesn't give in to corporate greed, and seemingly loves doing what it set out to do in the first place; creating)
I won't be buying your games. I am done. You gave up on me. Us.

Worst game in the franchise: Very tiresome, boring, and character interactions are lame. The plot in this game is dull and it's the same map as previous games with nothing fun but agitation. Disappointment of a game, no good story at all, the beginning, however, was okay.

I'm a total fan of Fallout, but this one has disappointed me a lot. Compared to Fallout 3 and New Vegas, it loses almost everything despite being a next gen game. And they have incomprehensibly decided to eliminate many of the things that made this saga great.
Of the bugs I do not even speak ... just say that I've had them of all types:

Sudden expulsions to the menu losing the progress you have not saved, hang up the game that made me turn off the console, missions that do not start, continuous failures in the map marker (with what that means in a giant map like this) failures in the Nuka World DLC that prevented me from finishing it, etc etc etc ...

Conclusion: in this way Bethesda loses loyal customers who feel deeply disappointed.

Is this the best Fallout game? No. Is this the best RPG Fallout game? No. What it is, is a very well designed open world fps, to be completely honest. There are some minor RPG elements here and there to keep it in the category, but most RPGs these days are significantly dumbed down.

    Positives:

    - Great and expansive open world
    - Excellent gunplay mechanics (You can finally aim down sights reliably)
    - Fun settlement building system (better with mods)
    - Good character building system (perk chart)
    - Good DLC content
    - Replay value
    - Some great characters
    - Expansive mod list (Xbox & PC only)
    - Fun to play

    Negatives:

    - Dialogue wheel is just unnecessary with limited options
    - Story is weak, along with some of the characters, especially yours
    - Missing some major rpg elements
    - Repetitive side quests (shut up preston)
    - Typical rpg bugs and crashes
    - Mehh graphics

Overall, IMO, Fallout 4 is a worthy successor to NV in the fallout series. I do not believe it is better than New Vegas, but it is certainly worthy of carrying the name. A good effort overall by Bethesda bringing the series to the next gen consoles and hopefully the next instalment will include more rpg elements with the positives of this game, because that would be an amazing product. Something to build on for the future. 83% = 8/10.

The graphics aren't that impressive for 2015 standards, but are passable. The noticable frame rate drop (especially during combat) becomes detrimental to my enjoyment and immersion, but this is only an infrequent occurance. Furthermore, the story is unoriginal and average, as it is inferior to the storyline and plot that 3 and New Vegas had presented to us; it is still decent though. The soundtrack doesn't distinct itself much from Fallout 3 but is still quite mesmerising to hear. There are good improvements to the gameplay mechanics of the game, for example, the VATS system. Previously, when you entered VATS, you could you use it as an alternative pause menu, eliminating the sense of urgency. But now, it has been altered to slow motion, creating a better yet subtle sense of said urgency as well as giving the player enough time to make decisions. Despite the improvements to things like gameplay mechanics, the game doesn't innovate from previous titles in all other major aspects. It feels like a slightly-improved and rehashed version of Fallout 3. You can even say it is inferior to it, especially in terms of story and RPG elements. However, the immersion factor really saves the game for me; the world is huge, and full of mysteries yet to be uncovered. There were even a few landmarks that caught my eye. All in all, I think this is a good game but plays it a bit too safe for it to deserve a higher score. You may either like it or hate it, depending on what you seek in video games.
