The narrative is often a slog (though it can be interesting and heady at times), and it devotes too much time to world-building and setup. As much as the game tries to highlight different walks of life, all of the characters, even Jensen, end up looking like faceless beings used to dump lore onto the player. I like seeing games tackle difficult subject matter, but that message, while occasionally coming through loud and clear, is ultimately lost in this dull and slow-moving story. It starts off with a bang, but quickly becomes a muddled mess of politics and techno-babble.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a decent sequel, but it's not the game that we were hoping for. There's a lot to like, but a lack of polish, a short runtime and a missing wow factor keep it from being great.

Eidos Montreal needed to build on the success of Human Revolution, instead of merely trying to replicate it wrapped in difficult politics. Instead of being the revolution we so hoped it would be, it’s simply left us divided.

I was really excited to play this game and really wanted to love it but the more I played it the less I liked it. I love the character AdamI was really excited to play this game and really wanted to love it but the more I played it the less I liked it. I love the character Adam Jensen but every one else in the game feels hollow and bland. By the end of my game plus play through I had upgraded everything and it didn't make any difference because the power drains away so quickly that the powers are virtually useless. Nothing was fun and there is so much forced replay it is insulting. There is one level of this game lifted right out of Assassin's Creed. The game is a grind and no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't wring out any fun from it. Notice that I played through it twice so I gave it every opportunity to win me over but it just didn't happen. Very sad and very disappointing. Human Revolution was really fun to play and a lot longer game but never got boring or repetitive but this game is no where near as good. What a heart breaker. Full Review »

While I enjoyed the last game, Human Revolution, I felt that the developers didn't quite have the horsepower and technology available on XboxWhile I enjoyed the last game, Human Revolution, I felt that the developers didn't quite have the horsepower and technology available on Xbox 360 to really do what they wanted. You could tell they had to cut corners on certain aspects of the game.

But Mankind Divided is a full realization of their vision for a new Deus Ex and it really shines overall. The gameplay and atmosphere are some of the best I've encountered this year. It all really fits into this world they built and nothing is out of place. They somehow managed to make the quest for information a main focus in the game and it's so fun to explore for laptops to hack and to find random bits of info on the enemy you just knocked the F out. You really feel like an augmented detective/assassin and just learning how to operate within the confines of the game world is a real pleasure.

While you DON'T have to take the stealth route, some of the levels are extremely hard if you try to shoot it out with everyone. The enemy AI is hit and miss but they're smart with grenades and generally overwhelm you with numbers. Plus the stealth augmentations are just plain cool and turning on your stealth field to get the jump on someone and taking them down with the one hitter quitter NEVER EVER gets old.

In conclusion this is the best shooter RPG game I've played since Fallout 4 took over my gaming life and if you enjoy that type of game Deus Ex provides a really fresh take on the genre. It's like stepping into the Matrix universe (the good one, not garbage Zion) and kicking ass and taking names while uncovering crazy conspiracy plot lines. Great Xbox One game.

Free DLC requires an account to be made with SE and is one time use.
Never buying from Edios after 2 abominations in a row.
