The game was so broken at launch they decided to give away free dlc, which is also terrible. Finally they did away with having to play their companion app. Oh and don't feel like having to work for items? No problem. Just spend $99 real dollars and buy away with the micro transactions. Yes... Micro Transactions in a Assassins Creed Game. It makes me sick. Assassin's Creed Rogue came out after this and is a much better product. Don't bother wasting your time with this game. Expand

The visuals and graphics are stunning, the acting and locations are excellent, I like that you can decorate your player home and interact with the environment and collect revenue from the many renovations you make, lastly the player customizing is a neat feature too.

Now onto the Weight of this game which is patheticly enough, the cons, The game is near impossible, they completely **** up the combat system, the guards are very cheap and use guns very frequently and so happen to use heat seaking bullets, pretty innovative for their time don't you think? The constant bugs and glitches I get, the Parkour is still as annoying as ever. So yeah, this game is far up on my **** games list. Do better next time Ubi****heads

This game has every possible feature you could ask for. A big, brilliant looking map, online cooperative play, competitive multiplayer, customizable character. They shot extremely high, and did so admirably. The game fails though, because at the games' core there are huge issues and bugs (at least at launch). The PC falls through the map, which I have had happen in previous AC's, character models are unfinished with textures popping in and the frame rate is shamefully low. To release the game like this is to say, "we'll take our paycheck, and worry about fixing it later." I have a huge issue with this. It's essentially an unfinished product.

The bain of my existence: MICROTRANSACTIONS!!!!! When I pay my hard earned $$ for a game I don't want to be nickel-and-dimed throughout the experience. The fact they included this makes me hesitant to buy from them in the future. UBISOFT IS JOINING THE DARK SIDE (LIKE EA).

All in all there is a beautiful game to be enjoyed if you can look past it's major set-backs. (HOPEFULLY) I will be changing this review as patches fix the game's issues. For now 5/10!!!

Ubisoft is capable of so much better.

The controls are still pretty clunky making wall traversal, climbing, and jumping rather annoying at times. The healthy no longer regenerates giving the game an added difficulty, however not that much. Streaks are done away with and replaced with the "perfect parry" which adds a little bit more difficulty. ACU has interesting micro-stories in their side missions that add to the development of the true star here, Paris itself. Paris is magnificent, and truly the star of the show. The game is rather decent and my fav AC behind AC2. Expand

All the cross promo stuff was a giant bomb - My initiates profile worked day one then it was wiped, so now I can't access initiates chests in Unity. The Uplay items I bought for unity were unlocked on Uplay and not synced in game. I also cannot unlock Unity App chests unless I unlock them in the Unity App but it doesn't tell you how. None of the chests have a level icon on the map or a "mouseover" to see whether or not I've unlocked them in the App so I end up spending tons of time running back and forth to chests I already looked at.

Soooo much money-grubbing - I paid 1.99 for the App because I wanted to get to the stuff in the XBOXONE game I already paid 60 bucks for as fast as I could. If I want to get the best gear I need to either spend real money on Helix points to "hack" the item or grind monsters. It is all the worst components of MMOs without the community. And don't forget the season pass I bought so that I could actually get all the content that was originally intended for the game.

Game was untested - As a fan I would have STFU had the game not been nearly unplayable. Falling through the world instead of climbing. Getting physically stuck in the tutorial, losing hours worth of progress, buggy AI (seriously try and fight near all the little props on corners).

I wanted to love this game. I wanted to play with friends but I cannot in good faith recommend this game to anyone except as an abject lesson in bad design (combat is a mess), bad QA (sooo many bugs), bad publishing (Press embargo until after launch because they knew what shape it was in).

My television going black on itself for five to 8 seconds, to clipping through building, having my xbox crash, receiving random achievement, dying without anyone hitting me, frame rates that are closer to slide shows than actual motion....What the hell happened Ubisoft.

This game has tarnished the Assassins Creed brand and your company.

Before I rant further, I will give props to the art team and models. The game looks next gen especially in screen shots, but that's about it, everything else is lost behind poor implementation and stability problems.

The story also seems to have some promise but get's lost in itself. Arno goes from having a free spirited Ezio like quality to a one dimensional killer in the blink of an eye. Half the time I'm not sure why I'm doing the things I'm doing or any context behind it. You would think that the bloody french revolution would be a great place to have an AC game, but the character seem indifferent to the struggle and even advise you to avoid it.

I wasn't able to get any further than sequence 5, the game is that unplayable. I could look past the story issues and enjoy the game for what it is....if it actually worked. I think I lost it the other night when I was clipping inside the wall at the notre dame and received three separate achievements.

I mean I can't even write this review without being angry.....

I haven't even mentioned the shameless introductions of micro transactions.....which should be called Macro transaction. Everything in this game cost you money. Yes it can be unlocked through regular play, but this logic is flawed because the game can't be played. It's a fricken train wreck.

There were a couple moments where I didn't have any issues what so ever, and these happened to be moments that have been shown in trailers and demos. If I had to take a guess the game was chopped up into several piece and various studios that had little communication with one another each worked on part. It's like a very poor assembly line. Yea the steering wheel is perfect, but it doesn't change the fact the other guy didn't fix the fuel line.

I love the AC series and I love the lore and the general idea behind this, but this game is a mess. It's not worth your money. Invest in a developer who cares about their content.

The gameplay IMO is vastly improved, and more stealth oriented and much more difficult in regards to combat (chain counter kills are removed). Black flag was amazing to me, greatest Pirate game I have ever played. Unity is a return to form for Assassin's Creed with a step back to stealth, with many improvements on detection, a last known position feature, and slightly slower but deadlier gameplay. I enjoy these changes, and they work well with the more sand box style mission design that is now in the game.

Paris looks amazing, favorite city thus far, and the mobs in the streets (revolution remember?) adds to the living feeling of hte city. Fights break out with other people and they react to each other which is enjoyable. It feels like a city, this time. The 1:1 ratio scale on buildings makes Paris feel like a place rather then a recreation (seeing Notre Dame the first time was jaw dropping).

The bad: lots of improvements, but no real innovation to say. Its a natural evolution of hte series but it didn't add anything new, just added in features people have been asking for that existed in other games already...like hte RPG skills, weapon upgrades, and variety of armor and weapons with states. Good system and I love it, but not new.

Last, and this is why I drop this score to a 6. Microtransaction bull crap. Didn't mind it in black flag as it was not in the game experiance, it was a small panel in the main menu. Here? Its in chests that are "special" that you CANNOT open unless you play the phone app. I don't own a smart phone anymore, so I am COMPLETELY locked out of these chests, and as a payoing customer, locking me out of parts of a full product I purchased is bull crap and a bad business practice, alienating customers.

There should be additions to these things not deductions. Its basically like playing AC1 again with superior graphics. You're on foot only.

Saying that, I'm still having a blast. Being able to go through and inside a huge number of buildings is a nice addition. The Co-op missions are brilliant, although slow to load.

Still not quite the next gen AC that we're hoping for but, still a must buy for any AC fan.

I was looking forward to this new Assassins Creed as it was getting a lot of hype. Unfortunately, the game doesn't really do anything new except for the coop. The main story was unbelievably slow and boring. It felt like all the other stories and games except a different location. Not being a fan of the series, it didn't do anything to convert me. probably my favorite AC yet. Beautifully rendered Paris, tons of content, detailed animation, and a revamped traversal system that makes running across the city a joy. It feels like a true sequel to ACII, much more than III or IV did.

I started playing post-patches, and as far as I can tell, the poor performance issues that apparently plagued the game upon release have been dealt with.

All the "major problems" with this game have been severely exaggerated. First of all, the frame rate drops occasionally on both consoles, but on Xbox One it has been tested to be pretty stable around the 29-30 fps mark, occasionally dropping to 25 when a lot of effects are going off in big crowds. It doesn't happen that often. In comparison, the PS4 version jumps as far down as 19fps at some times. So the PS4 version I would deem broken, but frame rate wise the Xbox One version at least holds up. Therefore I would say the lower score on the Xbox One version is based on exactly nothing.

Next "problem," the pop-in. Yes it's annoying when a character or object spawns right in front of you out of nowhere. However, I have not encountered that situation in all my time of playing. And I'm somebody that really looks out for graphical glitches like that, because I find them irritating.

You might wonder if I found any huge problems at all. The answer is yes; I got stuck in a post and had to exit out of the game one time. ONE TIME. So to wrap things up I'll just say I feel like I played a very different Unity from all the negative reviewers. It's fair to say I may have been lucky to have this few problems, but I can't help but feel the negativity is unnecessary. I can't give this game a low grade and feel like I'm doing the right thing. I'll give Unity a solid 8.0. Would be at least .5 higher if the performance was flawless, and the micro-transactions non-existent.

In contrast to what many people are saying, I find the story to be excellent. Sure the frame rate drops here and there but its barely noticeable and can easily be fixed in a patch, which is what Ubisoft has already said they will do. Also the grudges against microtransactions make no sense, as they are only an option for those who do not want to put the time in to earn all the items themselves. You can easily obtain all the items in the game with a little bit of time put into it, which isn't at all a chore since this game is so excellent. If you don't want to do that, you are defeating the purpose of playing games in the first place.

My advice is, if you are at all interested in this game/the AC series, do not listen to all of these haters, as in my opinion, their scores and arguments are completely unjustified. The art assets are amazing, for the most part. So much so that the Xbox One struggles to display them at anything resembling a presentable framerate. Coupling that with the hard locking the box, wonky AI, and several instances of my falling through the geometry in my 6 hours with the title so far, it's hard to see how they felt this game was ready for the big leagues that are the holiday release season.

Uplay has been down for most of the day, the companion app refuses to sync to my Xbox and the initiates website appears to have been down since July 2014. All of those pile onto the feeling that this title was rushed out of the gate. It's a damned shame, when the game works, it really works, and you can see glimpses of greatness. Unfortunately, the game is so mired in bugs, a questionable control scheme and a barely coherent story that those glimpses aren't enough to save the title from middling mediocrity.

It's more and more apparent why AAA studios are imposing release day review embargoes, and it's got nothing to do with assisting the consumer in making informed decisions with their hard earned holiday release cash. I was definitely drinking the kool-aid on this title, even staying up until 3am EST to play when the pre-order unlocked on my Xbox. Ubisoft won't be fooling me again any time soon.

If you like Assassins Creed games you will like this one....just nto as much at just about any other game in the series.

    The good differences
    New story....
Co-op when it wants to work
Better weapon options and look customization
and um.........the companion app is sorta fun........i guess

    The bad differences
Slower combat, less moves and diversity in combos , attacks and strategy.
to top off the slow down in combat , anytime your fighting more then 4 or 5 guys the frame drops slowing things down even more.
Less tactical options and gadgets - just not as many cool toys available as past games
The combat itself is also dumbed down , in addition to being slower. Hell even your air assassination is not done right , you land on the guy knocking him to the ground and then you stab him like 2 seconds later.
The story: Makes you feel like you have no connection to the assassins at all , just your a guy that has the bloodline and your doing it for no other reason then your revenge , your real world story doesn't have much of a connection or impact either ( and i only have like 2 missions left to go) I don't know where this trend of your hero can't be a hero and its cool to just be this anti hero that happens to do good things on the course of doing his selfish **** up thing came from but its played out already. I haven't seen a legit good guy in a video game in years. Especially the AC series .
Peppershot 6 round pistol is ridiculous , i try not to use it unless someone else pulls out a gun , but when they do instead of having to worry about fighting and having to deal with a guy shooting at me during an enjoyable fight , i just pull it out and level everyone with it.

    TL:DR
Fun game if you like the series , just not as good or deep as other games in the series. Not worth AAA price tag, wait till gets bugs fixed and is like $30 then it will be a solid to high 7.

Assassin's Creed Unity is not a bad game. Just a bunch of pissed off players with systems without gonads.

I find it hilarious they all complain that the story is horrible when their first complaint is the poor optimization and lag. How are you players even playing the game IF YOUR SYSTEM CAN'T HANDLE IT? It has recommended and minimal specs. READ! Witness the surpassing amount of 100

I admit this game has bad optimization for lower end systems. Maybe it's about time for an upgrade for desktops since PS3 and Xbox 360 just upgraded?

OMG... the reviews can be nasty... especially how many of them did actually play the game more than 30 min ? Like everyone else, i read all the reviews and heard about the bugs and glitches. I loved past Assassins Creed but not a blind fan. Sorry but Black Flag was way too repetitive for me with a not so historic appealing story. For me, the best was the Enzio arc. After a little more than 10h playing the game I can confirm Unity is a fun and beautiful game. Yes, there's glitches here and there... but luckily on Xbox one, it's not that bad.... NOTHING that could stop you enjoying this game. the city is gorgeous... and big... with a lot to do. Expand

Enjoyed the game from start to finish, despite some minor bugs, occasional framedrop and one crash. Combat is finally, after a couple of tries, challenging and the stealth mecahnic, although not perfected, is a step forward for the franchise. The descend mechanic is a big plus, and cuts down the frustration of not finding a proper haystack to jump into when on top of building. The descend mechanic is a big plus, and cuts down the frustration of not finding a proper haystack to jump into when on top of building. The custamization of the protagonist is a big plus, catering to prefered play style (mine was of course stealthy as hell).

The Arno Dorian storyline is maybe not the strongest in the franchise but it has it's moments. Elise and others are memorable characters. The big let down is the modern day which seems to be non existing. Don't know if it's just for this game or for the remaining of the series but they need to do some serious rethinking on that issue because the overall arc falls a bit flat without a proper modern day problem to handle. Music wise, good as always.

Big no-no's: The nomad and initiate chest which is just frustrating. Not a problem for me per say as i've been a member of initate and enjoys mobile games but I can see the frustration of it. Why not just make the nomad game a standalone game?

The frame-rate is in most cases somewhere between 28-30 fps, only few times it goes down to 25 and in 41 hour playing it, it only went down to lower than 20 fps maybe 5 times. And yeees, there are pop-ins, but when you see thousands of citizens at the same time, I mean, come on, it looks gorgeous.

So now to some info about the game: the story is as good/bad as in each Assassin's Creed, but the presentation and mission variation makes it to my favourite Assassin's Creed (AC 2 was my favourite till today). The story is done in about 12 hours, but after that, I spent over 30 hours doing side quests which are pretty good varied.

One last word about micro-transactions: yes we all hate them, but in AC Unity, there is seriously no reason to buy them. You get about 41k through your Café each hour + these helix units for special kills. So you can buy everything in a short time and have no need to spend extra money.

Paris shows some promise, but it's hard to enjoy a game when it's so nauseating, even if it does suggest a return to the series' best ideas. Maybe next year. [Issue#119, p.65]

As the first next-gen addition to the series Unity is a stepping stone on the way to something outstanding, but not an outstanding game in its own right. [13/2014, p.32]

If you're invested in the classic AC style, this will do the trick. You'll love being a part of Ubisoft's Paris. [Jan 2015, p.68]
