Had a blast. Strong narrative pacing throughout the whole game, musical score was on point and brings home the feeling like you're a small part of an epic struggle, but only in a good way.

With this being Bungies last HALO I was expecting this to top them all in terms of graphics , weapons and vehicles. The graphics are way better than Halo 3 so to that I must say they succeeded. As far as vehicles, this game lets you go into space for around 15-20 minutes which was a nice diversion. With all of the changes they still managed to keep it feel like halo which everyone enjoys. Bob Jackson is right when he sais the AI is bad, but the story telling is good. I actually think the best part of this is that it continues the HALO world without stripping and reducing the game down to a stupid shooting game. And that's what HALO is in general, but this one has a nice little twist to it.

I'm still playing it every day, it's pretty darn good. Being a huge Halo fan I can honestly say it has the potential to be the best in the series. First of all it is a halo game. I own all 3 systems and over 200 games. I am a little disappointed in some of the game but lets face it I bought it because of the name Halo and it does follow in its footsteps true to the franchise. The downside of this is that this title did not draw me in. Basically I have to admit to myself I just have played Halo too much and am bored with it. There is no new excitement left. I can't blame the new Reach for this. This is why the series is coming to conclusion. It's just time. That said, this disc is pretty good value. There is so much content on the disc that if you have never played a Halo game this is the version to buy. It is the most updated and best design of any of games released however the story isn't as impressive as some of the other Halo releases. Overall this game is good and if i have any complaint it is more so to do with the fact that the xbox 360 can not process the game as well as i would have liked. The xbox really seems to be pushed to its limits in this game and it shows. When i bought the game i was hoping for a halo version that had Demon's souls feel of battle (fatique with equipment customization), FEAR's AI and Monster Hunter Tri's gathering of usable materials. I guess that's what i was secretly hoping for and it wasn't there. But I can't bash the game because my fantasy wasn't made. This game was designed for its demographic and it certainly isn't broken. Very worthy of an 8 or 9 despite wishing the game was something a bit different. In sum, best Halo and a fitting conclusion to make this series obsolete as this title needs to end so a fresh new series can be made. Expand

Let me begin my review by stating in the past I have liked most of the Bungie produced Halo games, with the exception of ODST. If you are like me, then you will probably like Halo: Reach. It is a Halo game. If you have never liked Halo games, you will not like this either. The Campaign is short but sweet, with a lot happening in about a 5-6 hour campaign. There is enough variety in the missions to keep it fresh and as opposed to other popular first person shooters where the landscapes are different shades of gray and brown, Halo: Reach has a lot of bright beautiful settings. The story is also a but more believable than other halo games. You are not an unstoppable god man like Master Chief and it is established fairly early on that you are going to lose, and I for one liked that. The tone of the game is darker and there is a feeling of hopelessness about everything, which is actually an interesting change of pace which I enjoyed. The game does have its problems though. For one, AI driving is still horrible. Secondly, there was not enough character development for the other members of Noble team. I didn't connect with them, I was just plopped into combat with them and expected to care about them. Multiplayer is as fun as ever with new game modes and new forge options. Right now a lot of players don't know what certain game modes are but I'm sure over time players will figure it out. Overall, I think this is the best and most polished Halo game to date. However, that being said, these days it isn't the king of first person shooters. It is a very fun and enjoyable game, but it isn't revolutionary or mind-blowing anymore so while it may be the best Halo game to date, it is certainly not the best first person shooter. All in all, it is a fun game. If you are a Halo fan buy it, the multiplayer will be worth your money alone, but if you never got into halo games, this is not going to convert you. Expand

I loved the way they tied it into the first scenes of combat evolved. Yet I would have liked to find out more about the forerunners, cortanas origin and of course the flood. At one point I thought that there may be room for the flood in the game as there was a marine in typical combat evolved style, sitting on the floor with a gun to his head talking to himself about the "other" aliens. logically though it would have been stupid to have the flood on reach and really what I am saying is that the original 3 halos are the ones to play, all with good narrative. The Reach online is fun don,t get me wrong but the level up system is ubelievably stupid. You rank up by credits and it doesn't matter if you win or lose. Calculating one average User Score is hard when a game has so much hype (like Halo Reach), you get lots of fanboys, haters, and more than average "it must be better than I thought" reviewers, so I applied some math to level the playing field. Firstly, Halo Reach doesn't deserve less than 2/10 from anybody (it works, has reasonable content, and is not overly expensive), so I removed those scores to eliminate obvious hate reviews. Secondly, a lot of reviewers are biased toward hype (whether they realise it or admit it or not). So for a game like Halo Reach some fanboys just think "Yeah! 10/10", some reviewers think "The critics say it's awesome, so I think I should score it 9/10", and then some think "I thought it was pretty good but lots of people say it is fantastic so maybe I missed the fine details, so instead of a 7 I'll give it an 8". I adjusted each user score proportionately to eliminate hype at the "top end" of the scale. What is left are scores that give a more objective indication of the user score. In mathematical jargon each user score is weighted inversely proportional to the matching critic score. My view: Halo Reach is a good solid game but not innovative nor cutting edge. I score it 8/10. Halo Reach is an odd game. As almost anyone will tell you, people either go nuts for it or they will go to any lengths to tarnish its name, regardless of how good the game may or may not be. I for one have never been a Halo 'fan-boy' and after playing and completing the game, still am not. But that's not to say it's not a good, if at times, great game.

Let's start with the campaign. Against my usually better judgement and gaming preference, I actually bought Halo Reach almost entirely for the multi-player element. I did not expect much from the campaign and knew it would be all too short - which usually irks me; I like an engrossing game which I can get my money's worth from. I am pleased to say however that the campaign undertaken alone is not a let-down and unlike some un-mentionables (Resident Evil 5), is not infuriating to play with AI companions alone. It is frantic, difficult in the extreme, epic and most importantly meaningful. I never found myself thinking, "Iâ

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start off by saying i'm far from a Halo fan boy, far from it. But i do enjoy the games. They didn't need to change much of the core mechanic as they got it pretty much right from the off, and i bet to those complainers about it feeling to like the first or second, if they changed it radically, you'd all complain. Anyway, the changes they have made are mainly to the weapons, they feel a lot better than Halo 3/3:ODST, although i don't see the point in the DMR, its a glorified pistol, it doesn't sit in between the Assault Rifle and the pistol, but swinging more to the pistol. In my opinion, they should have kept the burst fire. The single player was fun and frustrating on Legendary but you'd expect it to be. And possibly one of the greatest mechanics in any game, if you die many times after a dodgy checkpoint, it reverts you back to the previous checkpoint. The story though is pretty flat. Its basically another invasion story, the Planet Reach is under attack by the Covenant, and you part of a group of spartans called Noble Team, realise the inevitability of the conflict. Because of this and the lack of lone wolf element to 1-3 (bar ODST), you do grow close to your squad mates as they perish one by one. Multiplayer is standard Halo. I'm not good at it, but it can be fun at times, more playing the right way, than your way, unless your way is the right way, but then that might not be as fun. Firefight is expanded further from ODST and is a lot of fun, with, or without teammates and allows me to level up online, without getting exceeding frustrated by playing *with* people who are better than me, rather than against. Finally the matchmaking system is still by far better than any other first person shooter has. They haven't seemed to change it on the surface since Halo 2 and theres a reason why. Expand

Never been a big fan of Halo to be honest - to me it's one of those franchises that everyone seems to love but I can't for the life of me understand why. However - even I must admit that this one is pretty good. Yes the campaign story is bloated and up it's own *** as usual - but there is absolutely no faulting the multiplayer - which is great fun I must say.

For instance there are no iron sights, you can't pistol head shot someone across the map (If you think you can't in call of duty, youtube it), you must take down shields before you can affect players health, all guns have bloom (ridicule gets larger as shots are fired in rapid succession) whether scoped or not, as well as other differences. This makes halo have a slight steeper learning curve than other brand name shooters on the market. This helps with strategy though. More experienced halo players have more strategies beyond the usual camping, shotgun rushing, etc. One i use is the four shot with the DMR weapon. It takes four shots to the body and one to the head to kill a person. Training yourself to aim for the body for the first three shots then to move to the head for the kill will give you a much higher K/D ratio versus the spamming of the trigger I see inexperienced players doing. The larger element of strategy coupled with the player's unfamiliarity with the halo series puts a lot of new gamers at a disadvantage and inevitably leads to bad reviews. Call of Duty has strategy too, but it comes in the form of customization. Having the counters to the other person's guns, killstreaks, perks, etc. Halo puts everyone on the same playing field and forces them to become better with same the guns the the enemy is using. In conclusion, if you a serious first person shooter gamer looking for a game that has a bit more strategy in the actual gun play rather than the in game customization then Halo Reach is a good buy. The biggest problem with Reach's campaign is, in my opinion, that you just can't identify with the character you play as, because that character is you. I know that sounds ridiculous, but hear me out; Bungie has purposefully given Noble 6 (the player character) no personality of his own, because they want the player to have the impression that they are Noble 6. For this same reason Six's armour is fully customisable, as is his or her gender. One of the best things about the original Halo games was assumming the guise of the Master Chief - the invincible super soldier who always says the most badass things possible at the most oppurtune moments. In Reach, the only person you assume the guise of is yourself - a basically unremarkable gamer with no particularly interesting qualities one way or the other. In fact even if you do have interesting qualities, the time at which they are least on display is when you're sat in front of your games console pretending to be someone more interesting. This basic element in the structure of the game is what killed the campaign for me - the last levels were still pretty good, mostly for nostalgia value, but overall I found the whole ordeal quite underwhelming. I gave Reach an 8 because of everything but its campaign, which is where the -2 comes from. Everything but the campaign is gold. Pure gold. Expand

Firefight is now really blooming and is full of fun, now with playlists for online and a variety of game modes to try. Multiplayer - this is where all that Halo magic was lost. The fun playlists - gone or revamped in to more boring things. Rumble Pit, for instance, used to be full of fun things. Now all it is is slayer. Living Dead - while yes, its now permanent, no more other fun, variety full game modes. The maps from Halo 3.... gone. They were really fun, but now they're gone. No more Foundry. No more Sandbox. Halo Reach is super fun, and can have a great story at times. But the gameplay can and will get a little repetitive. Despite that it always provides enough variation to keep you going. Matchmaking is great but you can get tired of it. Overall, this is a pretty fun game, but it can be a little easy to get tired of.

Multiplayer is the weakest of the series though and this is because of the inclusion of stupidly integrated Armour Abilities and poor map design (They created a map to work within campaign and multiplayer, but I'm afraid game design doesn't work like that, it feels unbalanced and the enviroment feels re-hashed if you've played single player). The REALg now is the swamp of forge world maps and the lack of slayer games in BTB. Pick this up though, it's still really good, just not as good as the previous Halo's. Expand

Although better graphics and better gameplay towards the weapons, it still feels something is greatly missing because if we look at Halo 3, it was in my opinion, the best Halo of all, and after ODST and Wars came out, it wasn't as good and anticipated in my mind as I thought. What's more disappointing is that this game was in nomination of Game of the Year, which is very unexpected.

I have been a long term Halo fan. I bought my first xbox many years ago and with that the original of the franchise 'Halo: Combat Evolved.' To my joy I found a deep, mysterious universe wrought with peril and a slightly (very) stereotyped space marine guy to play as while he swept over the ring, escaping from a terrible foe.

Halo 2 came around, this time with multiplayer. Then Halo 3 with innovative features such as Forge and Theater mode - both these games having campaigns that are still vivid in my mind and multiplayer maps so immersive that I can smell them. Oh, and there was that mediocre ODST game that brought firefight.

    Then Reach.

    To start with - campaign.

The campaign was fun I guess, but not exactly difficult (even on legendary) but was overly short. The only characters to break out of the 'space marine' mould a little were Kat and Jorge. The story was mediocre, alien invasion with little real relevance to the overall story until the end.

The Forge mode has seen a considerable increase in quality, the ability to nudge objects or to precisely adjust the angle is a huge move in the right direction for the mode. Phasing objects into the ground receives a huge thumbs up from me. Truly, this map editing mode is very, very good. However, it is marred by the restrictive colour palette of grey and... well, grey.

Firefight has also seen an upgrade, with improved customisation options and matchmaking support, however, there is an insufferable lag whenever I play with anyone else (I have heard similar feedback from friends) so I normally end up playing on my own - kind of defeating the purpose of matchmaking support.

The theater mode has sacrificed multiplayer support for the ability to rewind campaign footage.

Finally, I move onto Matchmaking. I am so split over this, sometimes it works - in gametypes such as SWAT it feels fine but I can't help but feel frustrated when playing anything that isn't SWAT. The core of this comes down to a number of things - a bloom system that I don't feel belongs in Halo and very very very very very bad level design.

To put the design in context, I can remember the names of many H: CE maps, yet after a month of not playing Reach, I can remember two. Paradiso - infamous with a one-sided spawn and annoying weapon locations and the imaginatively named 'Forge World', designed with guess what in mind?

I don't think that Reach is essentially bad, and its not that I am bad at it - I had a k/d of 2 according to bungie.net over a few hundred games - but I found that I was getting very bored with Halo. Shooting a grunt's head with a DMR lost its appeal quickly, sticks and splatters were made redundant with armour and I was generally bored of the game very quickly compared to other Halo games.

Finally, I come onto custom games - where I spent weeks of my life in Halo 3. This to me was the core of the fun, with many community favourites such as a jenga tower variant where you had to stand on a tower as large chunks of scenery were fired at you - last man standing wins. These games normally racked up around 8 people, but many times went up to the max of 16. Meanwhile, I go onto Reach, set up a variant where you have to run down a track from a killball chasing you, get positive reviews when I show people one on one and then invite my friends list for a good, full game. Not one person joins. Why? Because you only get 200 credits for playing 10 minutes of custom games, while you can get 2000 for an enraging matchmaking game. Effectively, credits have destroyed custom games.

To sum up, the campaign and the multiplayer are average - while the firefight, forge and custom games are all absolutely fantastic, best in the console FPS genre, however, these are made redundant from a lack of players who are too busy annoying themselves getting virtual money to spend on virtual clothes for a virtual character. Halo just outsmarted itself.

Cons: Multiplayer although fun got boring for me quickly, tackling the daily challenges was fun, but it begans to drag on. You play MP and attain "Credits" which you can buy things with from the Armory (Customization Shop). Cool touch but the items are super expensive. You make about 500 to 1000 Cr per Team Slayer and some items are 150,000 credits, certain helmets are 50,000 and each helmet has add ons that are 20,000 each but do nothing. I think they try and get you to love to attain these meaningless items. There are in game achievements you get Cr for also called Commendations. The levels for this are bronze, silver, gold and onyx. You get Cr for each one until you hit Onyx, you can go one whole set past it and you get nothing....lame! I also didn't like the fact that some very simple achievements on the DLC would give you 75 pts each, which is more than most on the game itself, it is a clear gimmick. But the DLC now!

Overall: I enjoyed this game, but some of the achievements were soooooooo time consuming it was irritating, its not just beating the game over...its investing hours and hours and hours into leveling up to Captain and Colonel. Fun game for a while, MP got boring quick, I smoke people and get 50 pts performance bonus, I do crappy and get 300. Well whatever, best Halo yet.

honestly, I found this game to be very underwhelming and rather disappointing. And if it weren't for ODST I would say its the worst halo game.

I found the campaign to be mundane, phoned in, and mediocre at best. It is lacking in presentation. for example, compare the invasion scene in halo reach to the San Fransisco invasion scene in resistance 2. resistance 2 delivers one of the most epic and jaw dropping scenes I have seen in a game and insomniac has a mere percentage of the funding behind them as bungie. for a game that capitalizes on a planetary invasion, you dont really get alot of epic encounters built around that theme in halo reach. in fact, you dont get very many epic encounters at all. most of the battles are relatively small scaled and they offer little intensity or a true warlike atmosphere.

The story is terrible. I can accept that. but the problem is that it is terrible in a boring way. It seems like the voice actors and writers arent even attempting to make it entertaining or interesting. There are plotholes everywhere in this game. I dont usually bring up that sort of thing, but they are so pervasive in this game, especially surrounding the deaths of main characters. I read the book "fall of reach" and it actually fleshed out the universe of "halo" and made master chief a more interesting character. It also showed the spartans, earlier in their training program, going on missions against human insurgents and pirates. that would have been an interesting thing to see in the game. but halo reach doesn't take any chances and it doesn't offer anything as a prequel.

the gunplay mechanics, in my eyes, are unforgivably primitive, especially for a big budget current gen title. There is no reason why halo games shouldn't incorporate ironsights by now. I dont think there is any other FPS franchise that could still get away with such a thing and be well received in the reviewing community. The gunplay overall has very little kickback or power behind it. the only weapon I found to have even a semblance of impact was the pistol. perhaps bungie was afraid to make significant changes to the gunplay because given the fact that this is a prequel, it would affect the continuity of the series. but I think that is really just a weak excuse.

No matter what features they add to the multiplayer, it doesnt cover up the sub-par mechanics and gunplay, which are truly the core aspects of an FPS game.

overall, halo reach isnt the worst FPS game out there, but I would definitely say its not a "great" game. if I were to judge it by the campaign alone, I would give it a 7/10. however, I think that due to the competent multiplayer (where clearly most of the effort has gone) I can give it an extra star, bringing it to an 8/10. honestly though I couldnt imagine giving it anything higher.

Halo Reach's campaign doesn't live up the standards set by the first 2 entries in the series or even the third. Halo should be blazing ahead and creating campaigns that are a cut above the standard, but instead they are trailing half a gen behind game franchises like Killzone, Crysis, and Resistance to name a few. Hell, even Call of Duty, despite its stagnation, still has a far more sophisticated engine, more dynamic campaigns, and far better gunplay than any of the current gen halo games.

its a shame this game has received so much undeserved praise. people are just so excited to have a game with "halo" in the name, that they dont stop to critically analyze it. I didnt go into this game wanting to hate it. as I said, I read the halo books. I was the biggest halo fan out there. at least up the halo 3. I honestly found this game lacking in every single aspect that matters to me in an FPS. If you havent experienced many FPS games this gen, than you may enjoy this. I know these games appeal to the more casual FPS crowd. However, objectively and in comparison to what is on the market right now, this game is not a contender, despite what some people will tell you.

For one, the story is a giant flop, and serves as a major anti-climax for anyone who has played through the masterfully-written trilogy that was Halo, and while the gameplay is amazing (just like its non-chronological predecessors), the structure often feels tedious and at times often very dull (the low-point being a mission where you fly through a city in a painfully-slow attack/transport chopper in the pouring rain, going back and forth across a very poorly made playing field providing assistance to random characters you neither know nor care about). Also, the new armour abilities, while some (the jet pack in particular) are definite wins, most of them serve simply to unbalance the gameplay and make it far more tedious, and seem a fairly pointless inclusion. If you can overlook these flawed abilities however, then the multiplayer aspect of Reach will be a fine way to kill time until H:CE:AE is released. Halo: Reach does succeed in many ways and is certainly better than most of the **** shooters we're exposed to, but coming from this right after Halo 3 (a vastly superior game in every aspect) will leave you longing for simpler times. Also, if you're a COD fan (much like myself) you'll find it very difficult to get into this, thanks entirely to the utter lack of customisation options in your load-outs (itself due to the minimalistic amount of weapons on offer)

That said, I really like Halo: Reach. It is the complete package. There are so many ways to have fun in this game. Reach's competitive multiplayer is very fun and is what keeps me playing the game one year later. I wouldn't say that it's the best in the series, but it's still extremely fun to play. Forge and Firefight have both taken huge leaps from Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. Firefights customization is what really makes it fun, you can pretty much do almost anything you want with it. Forge World is just amazing, making awesome maps has never been easier. Just messing around with some friends in the huge environment can be extremely fun. And when you take your Forge World creation into Custom Games with friends, it's just plain awesome. However, there is one big problem with the game and is the reason why I gave it an 8 instead of a 9. The single player campaign, was not nearly as cool and epic as I had thought it would be. There was no character development at all, the voice acting was terrible, and most of the missions were boring and repetitive. It didn't really feel like you were part of this large scale epic fight for the planet, instead you ran around pushing buttons and switches. The planet itself seemed more like a civilian farming planet more then the vital industrial military planet it was supposed to be. In fact, the campaign is so horrible and disappointing I don't even consider it canon to the Halo Universe. If you want to know what really happened to Reach, just read the book Halo: The Fall of Reach instead.

So overall, Halo: Reach is a great game, minus the single player campaign. It's a must buy for any FPS fan who owns an Xbox 360 and loves Sci Fi. I hope this review was helpful.

I detested the story of Halo 3 because both Master Chief and Cortana are so hilariously dull as main characters and ever so slightly embarrassing. Whenever Cortana's face would flash up on screen telling me how much she loved biscuits in the first level of Halo 3 I found myself cringing and hoping she'd vanish. My only problem with the Halo series has been the horridly cheesy story, with overly emotional choir music which worked very well with the first Halo game but is simply irritating in Halo 2 and 3. Halo as a series just takes itself far too seriously. Which isn't helped but the fan-base who do exactly the same. Luckily, Halo Reach rights many of the wrongs of Halo 3. The story is good and not steeped in tiresome Halo lore like Halo 3. A simple desperate struggle to evacuate a human colony from alien occupation ending in tragedy - which is so refreshing after previous installments in the series. Graphically this game is pretty good. Not pushing any boundaries, but everything looks smooth. Everything works well in Halo Reach and the inclusion of permanent jetpacks, cloaking devices etc really adds to the overall experience. Multiplayer is decent too and really quite addictive. Unfortunately Halo Reach doesn't really seem to aspire to do anything new. In fact I was glad to hear that 343 are taking the reigns of the series now. Hopefully they will inject something new and interesting into the Halo series. Expand

I enjoyed this game the full way through and it even skewed away from the fps style game and went to the space flight combat simulator. Halo 3 offered me one of my first online gaming experiences and I never found a game I enjoyed online more. Unfortunately, the online didn't hold it for me with Halo Reach. It felt like there was too much going on, too many ways to avoid being killed. The added armour bonuses left all your other halo expertise slightly useless. In saying that, it is still a GOOD online experience by all accounts. I haven't played the game in almost a year but currently the online is holding me back from my last achievement so I will consider investing more time to that game. Perhaps the best and most unique Halo since Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo Reach serves as a nice sendoff from Bungie to Halo. The inclusion of Halo 3: ODST's refined Firefight mode is welcome and serves as an option aside from the standard single player and multiplayer.

Nothing is more fun than going to Forge world, giving your characters super human abilities (like jumping up 20 meters and running faster than a vehicle) and having an all out brawl.
The multiplayer is just a refined version of Halo 3, which is not a bad thing.

Halo Reach is a much more refined Halo and its multiplayer is what makes this game stick out to me when it comes to Halo games. It also added a much more expanded Forge which adds hours of making maps and just being creative. Halo added its own survival mode, or Firefight, in which you fight waves of Covenant soldiers. Overall, this is a damn good Halo game and should not be ignored.

This game is so packed to the brim with content, it's amazing what Bungie has accomplished here. This game would get a legendary 10/10 score, if it were not for a few issues. First off, there is no Legendary ending. Why? Why break tradition if this is intended as a thank you to the fans? And to be honest, the character development wasn't that great. As the Noble Team started dying like flies, I found myself barely caring. And it was also a shame that Bungie didn't capitalize on the excellent new space combat controls by applying it to multiplayer, far improving the experience. Sadly, Bungie didn't want to annoy all the Halo fans by switching up the formula, because there are so many Halo fans, but I believe that taking that brave step would have been worth it. Overall, Halo Reach is a great game and a great way to end my favourite franchise. if you appreciate good games, pick up Halo Reach. Expand

The maps are also a mixed bag, with some maps being a ton of fun to play on with the likes of Sword Base and Countdown, meanwhile others feel very uninspired or are badly designed such as Condemned, Boneyard and the forge maps.

Halo: Reach is a good example of how a First person shooter should be made. The gunplay is solid, fun and gripping; what is the most important part of a FPS. In addition, the game is challenging due to different kinds of enemies that we'll have to face in different ways and the difficulty of the game in general, so strategy will be something that we'll hve to take into account.

About the story, this time we've a prequel of the franchise, so it is a good way to introduce ourselves to this saga if we had not given a try before. Plot and characters do not disappoint, so we have a very enjoyable campaign mode. However, It's quite short, so we'll not end satisfied enough in the end. The variety of weapons is not big at all neither. So, that might feel a bit repetitive.
Online mode is a good way to keep playing this game. It's a gamemode that stands out in the Halo franchise and It's competitive and gripping.
To sum up, Halo is still a great FPS and one of the best Xbox franchises. However, I really miss more content.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Halo: Reach, in my opinion this game truly does deserve the title of Bungies Swansong. Lets start of with the Single Player Campaign, Unlike the Original games where you were pretty much guaranteed to win, this time with Halo: Reach the tone totally shifts, there is no victory to be found. From the Beginning you know that you're fighting a losing battle, and the games excellent Musical score does the job of reinforcing the dark tone. As you star to care for your teammates there picked...killed in their own unique and Ironic way. The story is simple in its structure and execution, making it easy to understand[far easier than Halo 2 & 4]

This is a game that is definitley worth $60 it offers so much content, while the map selection is not the best, what with the maps being recycled from the campaign, in the series, there is simply so much to do, that I never felt bored, I would pop this game in my Xbox Any! Day.

It’s a great popcorn shooter, like the video game equivalent of junk food. The best thing about the game is that when you die, you respawn within about three seconds. That makes death a minor penalty and keeps the pressure off the player. Plus, the checkpoint system is very well balanced, making the player repeat just the right amount of sections and allowing them to skip the hardest ones once they’ve beaten it once. Two big pluses there.

The auto-aim is very aggressive, and it makes me feel like I’m a pro-level player, which I know I’m not, ha! But for a game like this, I actually liked it. It was fun to feel like I could routinely nail head shots across a battlefield.

The story was where I deducted points, and I took two whole points off, because there was a missed opportunity here. This could have been a really powerful story, if it were fleshed out and executed well. Instead, what we got was a popcorn game. Well, c’est la vie.

The music was meh—I love the opening theme of Halo, but at points they started to do a rock-based thing during some of the campaign levels that I didn’t like. I think a drumset shouldn’t have a place in a modern shooter—the sound is too old fashioned. But I didn’t take points off for that because it never got in the way.

Graphics and sound were good enough for government work.

TL;DR: Fun action game with level story. Shooty shooty boom boom, kaplowie, yay.

Multiplayer is a bit of a different story. Bloom in Halo Reach is quite bad, and it is pretty hard to hit anything when shooting at what is seemingly a normal rate of fire. Another quite problamatic issue, is just how annoying armor lock is. Armor lock is one of the worst abilities ever put into a Halo game. It simply stops the fun of trying to kill eachother by making me wait like 10 seconds, and is so overpowered, that being shot by a scorpion, wraith, or rammed by any vehicle basically does absolutely no damage. Otherwise, being able to play as an elite is amazing, customization is basically perfect, progression is pretty good, but may take a little bit to get stuff, Firefight in this game is also very well done, and in fact, you can play as an elite going against the spartans in firefight, which is pretty cool. Forge mode was a lot of fun, and you could do a lot of stuff, and was great in making forge a fundamental stepping stone, especially with media share. It certainly eliminates the annoyance of host migration when youre just 1 bullet away from killing someone and suddenly everything stops and the screen goes black while the host changes.

The campaign for Halo was unimpressive and for large parts quite boring and repetitive. Still probably better than CoD ripping off The Rock or Enemy At The Gates or probably Apocalypse Now or something now theyre in Vietnam for Black Ops. CoD fans can hush about CoD campaigns being amazing. They obviously havnt played Mass Effect 2. Thats how a campaign should be. The Halo universe is barely a scratch on MEs branching storylines and character relations. Reach has huge balance issues especially in its Invasion game mode and also its spawn points. I spawned in the same room as 4 guys in the blue team earlier. The problem was that I was on Red Team and on SWAT I think you can imagine the amount of holes that put in my head before I even took 1 step.

Halo better than CoD, less consistent than Battlefield. Reach also has The Cage, possibly the worst multiplayer map ever in any game and its even got more contenders to that title in its 8 non forge map roster. It falls between the 2 for me with a 7.5.

If you loved all the other Halo games, there's little I can say to dissuade you from purchasing Bungie's last creation in the Halo series.

Halo: Reach is not a breakthrough, yet it's a clear showcase of Bungie's creative growth. The game is hardly a "must buy" – its single-player campaign is way too short and uneven in quality, while multiplayer has very little room for expansion besides map packs and useless character decorations. But with that said, Reach is worthy of your attention for a couple of evenings.

Almost achieves the impossible and fulfills the hype. Among the best shooters ever created. [Issue#231, p.82]
