A really good game it definatly raises the expectation for the halo series. When you play it i guarntee you'll be saying "wow this is so awesome that i pooped my self" overall just a good game. you gotta have no brain or taste in games if you dont even remotely like it. Just watch out there are some new monsters that really pack a punch

Good Campaign but not very long and has horrible A.I. Firefight is outstanding! The new Forgeworld is phenominal and multiplayer is loaded with playists! Overall amazing game with so much to offer but glitches and atrocious A.I. keep it from perfection!

Loved this game. Campaign story was excellent, albeit linear and somewhat predictable. This game's multiplayer is one of the few I actually enjoy, most other games' MP I just find frustrating and annoying. I have read many people don't like it as well as previous installments of the Halo series, but I found this game overall very enjoyable.

This game is the Best halo so far! It has great graphics, story line and a great multi player. The Campaign is a little hard to follow because I didn't really know who was who but that's the only bad thing.

It brings back everything you love about the previous Halo installments but brings much more to the table. Halo: Reach is a must have for any Halo fanatic like myself.

OVERVIEW: With their last Halo title, Bungie definitely went out with a bang, showing no signs of laziness. Instead they showed hard work and dedication to create a meaningful, respectable game.

PROS: The hard work put into Reach definitely shows. Everything is brand new from the art work to the game engine. The game runs great and smooth with little to no problems. The presentation is amazing which includes some emotional and nostalgic story telling. The amazing multiplayer is better than ever, including tons of maps, tons of game types, and great matchmaking system, and a great leveling system. But the best part of this game is all the things there is to do. Forge is greatly improved for Halo 3 which now includes Forge World, fusing, and a lot of items. Firefight is included which contains customizable game types. Speaking of game types, Custom Games is included which contains almost limitless possibilities and endless combinations with forge. On top of all that there is matchmaking for campaign and firefight.

CONS: Reach is a beautiful game, but the graphics are not the best when compared to other shooters. Other problems are small things, like theatre has been reduced to 1 player only. You can't forge firefight maps. No matchmaking for custom games. Campaign is a bit short. These are all small things that are unnoticeable when enjoying the other options.

GRAPHICS: 8 out of 10; Not the best, but still beautiful enough to envy planet Reach.
STORYLINE: 8 out of 10; Very emotional and the connection to other Halo's is clever, but this is only done in through cut scenes.
GAMEPLAY: 9 out of 10; Very unique with the wide range of weapons and the addition of load outs.
LASTING APPEAL: 10 out 10; So many ways to play, and they are all fun and lasting. OVERALL: 9 out of 10

CONCLUSION: What is so great about this game is all the things to do, how they all relate together, and how I could play every one for hours.. The small flaws are shadowed by what's great about this game. Bungie really gave it their all in this one, and it shows.

First off, this game is better than a 9, but I refuse to give a game that's not perfect a 10, and I can think of a few things it's missing which I'll get to at the end.

The multiplayer mode is probably the best in terms of online FPS that I've ever come across. It's so well balanced in terms of weapons and the extra choices of particular power you choose really adds new dimensions to the strategy of the game. The game boasts some really great maps and now a year in it has lots that I've never even seen before. The medals you get within the game are always fun to see, and as always bungie.com has a great deal of stats, it's just a shame they can't be accessed from the Halo Reach game itself.

The things which need improving on are as follows: Jet Packs shouldn't be in the game, they're really irritating especially when half the people in the game are flying about. The map selection needs to be more random, I'm sick to death of playing Sword base cos it's the one people know the best. The lacks of a Final Kill Cam, Replay Death and levelling up perks that COD made popular are all annoying not to have.

Freaking love this game. Bungie is great. Honestly 4 player split screen online is amazing. I wish more devs did that and for this Halo is one of my #1 played games since I can always play it while I have my buds over. Only 1 gripe: BTB only lets 2 people on a console play at once. LAME!!!

The gameplay is smooth and the story is what I expected, but I never really had a bond with the main character like I did with Master Chief, so that's the reason I docked 1. The multiplayer on the other hand is the best I have ever played. The variety of maps, game types, and general awesomeness is what makes it a great game.

But what always had me coming back is the multiplayer. The thrill of owning someone who isn't as skilled as you is always satisfying. But that's what separates Halo from most shooters out there. The new armor abilities were cool at first, then became slightly annoying. Hologram sucks, and armor lock really pisses me off. Both can be pretty useless sometimes, and in multiplayer straight up aggravating! The armor ability of Spring made me wonder WHY Bungie never gave us the ability to sprint in the first place. If you ask me, being a Spartan in the game, being able to sprint should be mandatory. I enjoyed jetpack, and thought this new addition to game change the usual flow of combat and gave the player new ventures in how to engage enemies in both campaign and multiplayer. Halo: Reach plays good, looks good, and sounds good. Graphics are nice, though nothing to applaud over. Sound effects and music are excellent! The game plays nearly flawless and the AI underwent improvements since Halo 3 and ODST. The Covenant look awesome, and feel more powerful and intimidating. The two space-combat levels was a great addition, and are extremely fun. Halo: Reach is a large-scale, global war and it feels that way while playing. Playing as a Spartan III in Halo: Reach was addicting, and this game is still one of my favorites. The characters were a bit shallow however, and their deaths didn't have much impact on me. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From a single player perspective, this game has a very different feel from the other Halo games, primarily because if you know anything of the Halo universe, you know that Reach was lost. This gives the game and several intense moments a very sullen, dark feel. This is esspecially true of the slow thinning down of your team. In ODST, everything works out in the end for your squad, so the dark theme of that game is less impactful. If you play these games just to shoot stuff, you won't have a clue what I'm talking about. If, however you game for story, you've likely felt a sort of hopelessness in this game, which adds a very powerful base for all the other game's stories to launch from. Play Halo one afterwards and you fight meaner, harder. The graphics, sound, control, and variety are excellent. Most bizarre is the fantastic space mission that comes out of nowhere. Bungie most have bored and decided to try their hands at something new. Excellent game, excellent story, but the multiplayer has trouble distinguishing itself, despite the modifications. Expand

My two favorite missions in the game are the full scale warfare one and the space combat one. The fourth mission tip of the spear is by far the best. Filled with explosions that don't feel like a Michael Bay film. Also, it's cool to have to infiltrate enemy bases on your own land. Also, it's this halo's "vehicle mission." My second favorite is the one just after it. Starting with a world war 2 style "storm the beach" into a UNSC base, only to take control of a space fighter and duke it out STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2 STYLE! (about time)
The multi-player is more of the same...but not...Same classic modes within (CTF, slayer and such) but new ones such as Headhunter are involved where in this mode you get a skull for each kill, and the rest is self explanatory. The armor customization is REALLY GOOD. My only problem is the leveling system. I have Xbox live but i don't see anyone ranking up without it. Also, ranking is extremely easy until you get to L.t Colonel I HATE DIFFICULTY SPIKES.
Forge is back and better then ever. With a whole level designed juts for forge. It's amazing, however because of this no one and i mean no one uses forge on any other map. I believe they should make a second forge world in a DLC.
Fire Fight, is like forge, back with more customazation. You can customize wave after wave. However at first the editor can be confusing. Also in a future halo you should be able to set to the point how many of each enemy you want.
Other modes are the same (theater)
THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING AND STILL HOLDS UP TO THE NEWEST GAMES.

While some fans may complain that Reach's storyline conflicted with Halo cannon, this is something most gamers can completely ignore as Reach's story will slowly unfold and submerse you as you play through the single player, with realistic characters that depict the story's emotion as remember the Spartans you will be fighting with are soldiers and not happy-go-lucky hero's. Some sequences in the campaign will feel reminiscent and almost taken from past Halo games this can be glanced over as Bungie has ditched the tedious looming corridors and repetitive missions by making every experience in the campaign completely different so you may have experienced it in previous games but not once will it repeat in the campaign itself. Although there is a bit of back tracking Bungie has smoothed this over by changing the scenery and enemies when you have to return as two missions take place in the same base but they feel like completely different environments.
Powerups and equipment are now replaced with Armour Abilities that you can use in campaign and multi-player which include invisibility now known as active camo, the ability to shoot out a hologram as a decoy, jetpack (no real need for an explanation), a new bubble shield, sprint and armour lock an ability that makes you invincible but immobile at the same time.
For their last game Bungie has incorporated a new recoil system called bloom which instead the standard recoiling upwards when shooting the bullets fly less accurately the longer or faster you shoot
and you will see you reticle inflate to show you the area where your bullets may be hitting.
While bloom may be almost unnoticeable in campaign it is in multi-player with the character models moving faster, the random bullet spread can be frustrating sometimes especially in competitive play and another thing on the MP is that over the year that Reach has been out there is a bit of unbalance in the armour abilities as with players getting to use them more they find out if they are over powered and armour lock is and as you stop when you use it, stops the gameplay as well which hurts the fun of multi-player as a lot of people use armour lock. But this only really noticeable in the core Halo gametypes as Reach offers an unprecedented amount of playlists to choose from with playlists like invasion which pitches elites verses Spartans, Grifball where two teams of four beat the living daylight out of each other in a crazed effort to get a bomb to the other side of the court, and the ever frantic, hectic, fun return of multi-team which also includes new gametypes like rockethog race and with friends multi-team is easily some of the most fun you can have on any game.
So even though the core elements of Halo multiplayer are hurt a bit, Reach's variety in fun game modes needs to be explored to get the best out of it.
Theatre also makes a welcome return in Reach and just like in Halo 3 you can replay, pause and record footage from your gameplay
Possibly on of the biggest overhauls in Reach is in Forge
Forge now has its own massive map built specifically for forging and is just simply huge and offers tons of different places ideal for creating your forge built map which is made easier to do with the ability to snap controls, edit the co-ordinates phase and phase and fix the forge piece and speaking of forge pieces there is a truck load of objects to manipulate and play with from massive Colosseum walls to crazy man canons that propel you across the map.
So whether put painstakingly long hours into perfecting your map or just want to explode your friends in the most obscene way you will end up spending countless hours in forge.
While the core multiplayer may not be as fun as Halo 3 which still undeniably has one of the greatest multiplayer components of all time,Halo Reach has so much variety, customization and overall accomplishment that makes it possibly the best overall first-person-shooter of this generation because of how much content it provides for the player and is a definite buy for any fan of Halo, shooter and creation.

A week after the game came out due to popular demand S.W.A.T. was added. Multi team S.W.A.T. was beautiful chaos head shots everywhere. Then S.W.A.T. was removed from multi team and given it's own playlist. Then the player count in multi team was changed, and things were removed and changed according to what would make the the game "more fair" according to the "victims" of someone who practiced the art of armor lock or used a gun that was good.

Things got worse and worse. When the First DLC hit it really only had one good map, and the playlists were very different. 343 took over and things got worse. Elite slayer was changed so drastically that not even fans of it voted it anymore. Good luck getting into a game of it since the games that come up are the most popular. The second DLC sucked two outside of a firefight map. The Anniversary map pack sucked as well, and it's not the games fault. Due to the fact that there is a large number of people who haven't played Halo 1 & 2, there is a large number of people who haven't played the new maps previously. The people who have however know them inside out and have strategies already made up due to previous experience. Firefight is great. It is nowhere near as difficult as ODST, but it is fun to set it up your way.

Forge World is incredible. While the maps that Bungie made may be bad, the maps and custom games out there made by fans are the saving grace of this game, but the one thing that remains untouched is my favorite part of the game.

The Campaign is incredible. I never gave a damn about the story in Halo, but Reach manages to have semi-interesting characters and a kick ass campaign to go along with it. I'll try and remember the fond memories of Reach at launch, but outside the campaign and custom games, there is noting I'd ever want to go back too.

The replay theatre allows you to save the recordings of your previous games (matchmaking and online) and keep them for as long as you like! You are able to relive your best in-game moments and show off to your friends. The multiple is fantastic as well delivering what is expected while adding the new mechanics seamlessly into the experience. All in all a great package and well worth the price of administration, the only real negatives being the exclusion of bots for practice in offline, the relatively small number of maps for multi player and the relatively short campaign which doesn't allow for as much character development as some may desire. Overall though one of the best games for the Xbox 360 and a definite for fans of the halo series and the fps genre Expand

Aside from french voices and music that are simply good (but not as fantastic as one would hope every single aspect to be), and new covenant weapons slightly off when used in the solo campaign, Reach delivers a brilliant solo experience. The story may not be surprising, but it's a well told one. Reach remains awe-inspiring for its implementation, scope, diversity and richness. Those who will have to carry on the flame have a high bar set there for them to surpass. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Campaign: Excluding the seemingly endless free for all of Spartans willing to die for their cause in seemingly (although unlikely) avoidable circumstances, too many of which went down far, far too easy. Halo Reach added some heart for me to the story, while many seem to feel for master chief I myself have always seen him as an unstoppable killing machine granted invincibility by the money train he rides to the bank for Microsoft, although there have been efforts to humanize him in outside game content. The game didn't do this purely through strength of writing for me, because in all honesty it's not the strongest in the world it did it with 3 simple mechanisms, Spartan Customization, Legendary difficulty and knowing my Halo background the knowledge of Reach's inevitable fall and by and large death of the Spartans. The customization made Noble Six me, he was my Spartan and although relatively restrictive at first, once you get into the higher ranks, you've possibly seen 50 incarnations of your Spartan developing, becoming your Avatar. Which is probably the greatest shame, that many will only have one play through using their relatively stock Spartan, robbing them of the emotional gravitas meant by seeing YOUR lid in the dust, abandoned perhaps even forgotten.
Legendary difficulty alone made the game feel much much longer, I literally felt like I had experienced a war (albeit a very brightly coloured one where nobody really died and I had booze on demand) after a while it gets to you seeing your Spartan flung across a room time and time again as a grunt takes pot shots at your corpse. Although at times not enjoyable it did help to emphasize the story line that is at times so coldly and frigidly translated to the player. The incredible triumphs of the Spartans against impossible odds, yet still frustratingly unable to stop the seemingly unstoppable alien force despite the sacrifice of the Spartans or the horrendous casualties of the planets occupants.
The final piece, knowing the entire time that you will lose this battle, if you managed to form any attachment to the ai, knowing that each of their deaths were not just more than likely but demanded by the story line, knowing that unless your kick ass noble 6 has been laying low the entire rest of the war waiting for some tax evasion charges to "blow over", that your avatar themselves were not going to make it through Reach. The opportunity is there for this emotional connection to be made and it is unfortunate that the fast food culture of much of the fan base will mean many will "wham bam thank you ma'am" take their achievements and move on, but as stated how the story is portrayed does it no favours and is ultimately why I can't give the game 10/10.
Game Play: As ever very well balanced simple controls which the series helped sculpt as the go to layout for FPS (except for having to hold a button to kneel but this can be rectified) making it more than easy to pick up and play. Large assortment of weapons to suit all styles of play although a few very clearly over powered in the right hands and situation (myself with a sniper rifle in any open environment has no doubt cause frustration in a few online). Large amount of varied enemy's with their own play style, although especially on lower difficulty's their IQ reminds me of Brick in Anchorman. Maps online are generally undeniably balanced if nothing else, the rest is personal preference.
Online: Although generally filled with the most frustrating **** wits with 0 respect that they are communicating with other human beings on the other end of the line and everybody else on a solid 0 communication unable to team work in an effort to avoid the other half of the spectrum. Online is still the pinnacle of the Bungie Era Halo experience and at the time of release the undeniable king of get your mates round and have a pick up and play laugh session online, while still offering a more hard-core experience for those with some hours under their belt.
There are numerous game modes varying from those that may almost be pointless, to my personal favourite the nail biting SWAT where a second can cost your whole team the round. Firefight is repetitive in the long run but again always good for a pick up and play session in (WHY DON'T MORE GAMES HAVE IT) 4 player split screen or 4 player Co-op online.
Overview: Halo has to be acknowledged in the genre it is intending to be, not criticized for failing to be a more hard-core FPS like Battlefield or the extensive role playing of Skyrim or the story of The Walking Dead. It is a Sci Fi Arcade Shooter, it nails that bracket to the wall, the day they try and market it as a harrowing tale of one mans fight to make it through an endless war in an uncaring universe and coming to grips that when he returns home he may not be the man he was and then produce this is the day sub 70% scores are justified. 9/10 - Work on portraying the story, if time nudity never hurts.

The engine has been totally redesigned; more of a detailed, next-gen-esque kind of visual. Two additional mechanics are included into the ebb and flow of combat; one allows you to sneak behind and enemy, unawares, and assassinate him with lethal force. Another includes various accessory-like items attached to your armor, enabling you to perform different offensive and defensive capabilites.
The story is one to be loved; as Halo fans should already know, Reach will eventually be taken over by the covenant, in doing so wiping out the remaining Spartan forces in the known universe. The events in the campaign take place just days before this happens, as you play an unnamed Spartan III dubbed, 'Noble 6,' just one soldier operating in the uber-elite spartan Noble squad. As you progress, (as in multiplayer,) you will garner credits which will enable you to purchase different armor pieces to your liking, (purely cosmetic.)
One of the best qualities about the campaign itself is that you don't need to be a loyal halo fan in order to enjoy it, since the story preludes all the events leading up to the awakening of Master Chief in Halo: Combat Evolved.
For Halo fans and shooter/actions fans alike, this game is a must have.

This package comes with an explosive campaign that fires on all cylinders as it tells the tale of Noble team as they desperately try to secure Reach from Covenant control. This tale is not the most intricately woven, but it is the most polished in terms of setpieces and gameplay. The variety in missions and what one can do within it is astounding. The next part of the package is the extremely customizable firefight. It's what we've seen from ODST, but the options to tweak the game is so vast and varied. Next up is the newly polished multiplayer. It's better than ever with rebalance on most occasions and my only gripe is the small number of maps. Next up is the fantastic forge. I spent hours on end on this newly improved forge because of the maps and objects that one could create. Finally there is the theater which is mostly the same carried over form Halo 3. My major gripes with this game are the unforgiving checkpoints and some forced storytelling at key points. All in all this is the most feature rich package in a videogame to date. Bungie delivered something that both the hardcore and casual fans can both dive into, and spend days into exploring the legacy this studio left behind. Expand

pros: gameplay, enemy AI, story is very compelling, that final level is awesome, multiplayer, fun modes like invasion especially in the spire map, multiplayer is fun and addicting, every multiplayer mode is awesome, customization of multiplayer characters, your multiplayer character carries over into single player, the easter eggs like covenant nightclub, while there is no legendary ending there is a room filled with nostalgic entries on past halo games and even red vs blue stuff (by the way red vs blue is canon. love that show)
cons: could of added a few new modes to multiplayer, Kat and Jun both suck Kat is boring a sterotype russian smart person where the only cool thing about her is she has a robot arm and Jun while he is bad@$$ is never around we never learn anything about him he barely even talks and what makes it worse is he is the only team mate to survive the game while cooler characters like Carter and Jorge die fiery deaths in explosions and ok characters like emile get knifed with energy swords, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not much else

+ Controls. Oh my, that the best-feeling shooter I played on consoles. Still not a mouse, but great.
+ Variety. The missions don't get boring.
+ Story structure. I like how this game doesn't feed the player with exposition. Stuff is happening and you adapt and it's great.
+ The score. It took me some time to adjust to it. Because to some extent it feels similar in vibe to Russian TV show Бригада. And this music disagrees to go to background. It's a full orchestral score. But it's definitely epic.

    Cons:
    - Enemy AI is stupid at many instances. It doesn't affect gameplay that much. But it does affects immersion in the story.
    - I knew the ending before starting the game. Despite this being my first Halo game ever.
    - The dark side of variety is the depth of gameplay. Vehicle missions feel much more shallow than other ones.
    - The cities are kinda empty. And don't feel lived in.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Halo Reach was the very first Halo game i had ever played/owned and i must say it is the best intro to the halo series as anything. Graphics are beautiful, Gameplay is fun and amazing to have in a game, story was well wrote as the destruction of reach was the main focus, and the voice acting was really well done. Campaign was well done as you start with a search for missing troopers and then you learn covenant has started a siege of the planet. you then are flying through space in shuttles, flying through burning cities, and just being a badassed spartan you can be with a range of new armor abilities, weapons, and armor customization. Armor Customization has been redone and you can make the most unique characters ever with varying options for helmets, colors, visors, etc. Gameplay was a change from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (which was my main game) with graphical and contol changes but that was easy to overcome. Multiplayer was remade to now include a few new game modes (grifball, firefight, and campaign) all in matchmaking. Forge was redone from halo 3 and has been done very well and made easier to use. Halo Reach was one of the best games i have played and was a very well done goodbye from Bungie. 343 has done well with halo 4 and i hope they continue the greatness they've got in their hands Expand

This is a guideline for how to properly review games. Many reviewers like to get a “feel” for a game, and arbitrarily give a game a score that they believe it deserves. This results in wildly different scores between different reviewers, and vastly different scores between similar games. This guideline addresses these problems and scores games fairly and consistently. This guideline also gives scores that are usually similar to the metacritic score.

The review score is based out of 10 points. There are no “half” or 0.5 increments. It is impossible to have a score above 10 or below 0. The review score will change as the game gets new dlc, drops in price, or if more secrets are found through the game increasing its appeal.

The scoring is split into 6 sections. The first five sections can add a possible 2 points to the final score. The first 5 sections are Single Player/Multi Player, Gameplay, Visuals/Story, Accessibility/Longevity, and Pricing.

Notice that 3 of these sections have two parts. These particular sections will be scored based on the stronger part of the game of the two. For example, if a game has a lousy single player campaign, but an excellent multiplayer component, that section will be based solely on the multiplayer as if the single player did not exist. This allows games to be based on their own merits, as many unnecessary features are shoehorned into video games by publishers to reach a “feature quota”. Games that excel in both areas of a section don’t receive should be noted in the written review, but cannot increase the score past 2 in that section. However, it can be taken into account in the final section

The final section can add 1, add 0, or subtract 1 to the final score. This final section is the “wildcard” section. This section is for how the reviewer “feels” about the game, but limits this only to this section, rather than the entire 10 point review. This section can include any positive or negative point that was not covered in the previous 5 sections.

I know this is late in reviewing but I just wanted to say I traded this game in for Halo 4 upon release because i couldn't afford 60 bucks at the time.

Anyways I loved playing halo reach despite of what negative people say. The halo community is a hard one to please i'll say. Most of them just want halo to be a constant re-hash of itself with better graphics in a world where technology and gaming is constantly progressing. Don't get me wrong I loved the first 3 halo's and they were great storylines along with great multiplayer.... Well halo 2 had its bugs before it was a beast.

Anyways point is I regretted trading in reach for halo 4 because halo 4 has horrible lag, quickspawn, killcams and everything cheesy in the cod franchise that's watered down with a Halo skin on it calling itself Halo. Plus 343 doesn't listen to their community at all they want is people praising the game and don't have time for constructive feedback that includes issues with the game that breaks it causing a population to drop by 92% in a lifespan less than a year.

Upon regret of trading it in I finally got it back at gamestop today for 12 bucks and lemme tell ya this was the best last installment of halo. Not the best overall just a good way for bungie to say goodbye and move on to bigger things like destiny.

So if you have this game you need to repopulate it, and if you've never played it then I will say its definitely worth the price. The legendary campaign is a good one to play with friends. Its not short like Halo 4.
For those of you who might think reach was on the cod side, I say to you pop in halo 4 and thats the real copycat.

The game is good but i had one little problem that made me spend more time with the game than i planned to. Save bug to be specific. my save data was lost twice (and yes i used save and quit), but i cant tell if that's Reach's problem, or my old 1st gen XBox is broken somehow.

Really came out of the gates swinging and almost four years later, you can still find a fair amount of people playing online. I still haven't made the jump to playing Halo 4 just yet because Reach MP still keeps me busy...that and admittedly, I still haven't completed the single player campaign. ;)

Why all the hate! The best campaign easily and the best multiplayer!
The armory thing where you could customise your character.
Big Team Battle was the most fun.
However not everything is perfect with this game. Like when you get ranked up with 10 inheritors when your a god damn warrant officer! Grrr.
    This game is awesome.
Describe it with 3 words: GREAT CAMPAIGN,FUN,NOBLE SIX IS AWESOME

The second best Halo game of all time after Halo 3. Reach has it all covered. Exciting and emotional campaign, multiplayer that i've spent entire months of my life on, the ability to get creative in forge and more. It doesn't quite have the "Halo feeling" that Halo 3 has and that's why this is not a 10/10.

This was actually my first Halo game I played and was turned onto it by a friend. Once I started to play the game I tried other games and I didn't find them as good as this one. I played online for quite awhile before getting bored because a lot of my friends were leaving for other games so I couldn't find other people I enjoyed playing with. I personally played Team Swat mainly, but would play other games in order to do the challenges for points. With that being said I found Team Swat to be the most enjoyable because everybody uses the same gun, no cloaking and all the other stuff found in the other game modes. The other game modes that I enjoyed playing was in the Open World Zombie part, which I also found to be quite enjoyable. I'd likely still be playing today if it weren't for my friends leaving for other games. You play to acquire points to update your character which unlocks some neat upgrades to purchase with XP. After awhile they unlocked the ranks and you leveled past what it was capped off which then it was a race to get as high as you could. I enjoyed the game and I'm sure if you like FPS then you will as well. So it's a game you should definitely try. Expand

Sound design and soundtrack are amazing.
I will now breakdown the campaign and multiplayer.

The campaign is great, with an immersive plot, great level design,an incredible variety of levels, ranging from straight up carnage to space combat. The game achieves so much with it's campaign alone to be worth playing, but there's even more than that.

Online multiplayer is great, with loads of different ways to play. That being said, being able to team kill is irritating,as teammates can just shoot you to lower your health and let an enemy kill you so they can't be kicked, but if you kill them after that, you get kicked.Really unfair. But if you play with the right group,it's incredible.

Firefight returns from ODST,and is just as good as it was there. Not much more to say.

Forge returns and is better than ever, allowing you to create your own multiplayer maps.I have played some great ones over the years with my friends.

Custom Games lets you play these maps or create a game variant to work on a map compatible with that base game type i.e. Invasion does not work on all maps.

Apart from the slight flaws in multiplayer,Halo Reach is a perfect game, and if you haven't played it,GET IT NOW!

You can choose which ability you want before respawning; a jetpack, a deployable shield, etc., which is new to Reach and improves every game mode. On top of this there’s a firefight mode that you can either play as a survival mode with limited everything or unlimited ammo with powerful weapons and 20 minutes to score big. There’s also a map-maker (forge) mode and theater mode. Your custom Spartan carries over all three modes, which you can buy new armor for with money you gain from playing (and from the addictive daily challenges). This game exceeds all previous Halos, in my opinon, and should be experienced by any shooter fan with an Xbox 360. I give it an 8.7. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would give the game a 10 but I can't even though I really want to and it's my favorite game.

    Soooo much content here...

Great story... So what if it doesn't follow the books. The bungie halo games always did their own thing...

Great campaign mode... No annoying flood. No super lame levels. Just action!

Great game play... Halo at its best. All the halo goodness in the world is here.

Amazing sound track... Marty at his best as usual. Him and halo ARE halo.

Great in game visuals. One of the best looking xbox 360 exclusives. Even better looking than halo 4...

Smart AI... Cept kat lol... I think they made her dumb on purpose to add difficulty.

Tons of content... Forge world, fire fight, multiplayer and more! All custom tailored to fit your style.

No weak micro transactions like halo 5 lol.

It's one of the best halo games. It's easily competing for best halo game against 1,2, and 3.

    Now for the mediocre/bad...

    Some minor gripes...

    Spoilers!

You can't explain Kats death very well story wise... What happened to her energy shields? And if they were out temporarily then that would explain why it only took one needle rifle round to kill her. Fair enough.... But if that's the case... Why didn't the shooter take out the whole team as well? They played this scene well emotionally but it was dumb in a logical kind of sense.

I wish you could make a fire fight mode where endless sword elites attack you nazi zombies style. They can't shoot or toss nades. They can only use cqc melee attacks with their swords. I always thought that this would be kool... But heck... I dunno if it would be since it doesn't exist and I'm not sure how long it would take until it got boring...

Spartan laser is much worse than it was in halo 3. In Halo 3 it was the end all cannon against anyone just about... In Reach it's much harder to pin point, takes longer to charge up, has less ammo, and requires a more steady aiming thumb. It's worse in just about every way. I guess they wanted to nerf it since it was a anti tank sniper rifle in halo 3 and that was kind of OP lol. It did make vehicles some what useless in halo 3 btb.

Bloom... Made shots random some what. Granted this only really upset strict competitive players who take the game very seriously in the rankings and what not... But for them it was a bit of a downer even though it's pretty silly to take "skill" in a video game so seriously. Especially considering that halo 2 has a hit scan br with high bullet magnetism and halo 3 has a br that's spread is pretty random too. Halo isn't exactly the most skillful shooter out there folks... Just saying. Play for fun. Not to try and be super mlg pro elite status... No one cares how good you are at a game. Besides... There are plenty of playlists that don't have bloom or even armor abilities for that matter so there is no need to complain anymore.

The rank system. Apparently some folks only played to see a number by their name go up. It motivated them to play for some reason. Instead of playing to have fun they would focus on the level 1-50 rank system. Reach has no such system unless you look it up on a web-site.

Anyone else miss having bots in multiplayer like perfect dark 64?

So those are the mediocre/bad things. A lot of which doesn't bug me personally but I can see why it would bug some people. Especially those who are not that smart or are too quick to judge this game.

Remember folks... No game is perfect but some games are pretty awesome anyways so I give this about a 8 or a 9. A 8 at launch. And a 9 now that patches and more content polished the game up.

The big finisher from Bungie, Halo Reach is a interesting step away from the adventures of Master chief, as the game takes place on the planet Reach, in events before the adventures of Master Chief. The game is packed with variety, from the interesting maps and worldspaces, to the improved gamemodes returning from past games such as Forge. The campaign introduces brand new characters, each with their own quirks and noticeable personalities, with enough variety in the campaign missions to satisfy ever type of shooter fan. The new abilities mechanic added is well done, offering the player with useful tools to help with mobility or approach a situation in a new manner. Firefight gives players a survival challenge to fight against increasingly difficult hordes of Covenant forces, and multiplayer is fairly similar to past games, with much needed improvements where it matters most.
Some of the games biggest strengths would have to be its forge gamemode, armory, and campaign. forge in Reach is vastly improves then the clunky and temperamental system in Halo 3, with much more tools and assests provided to the player, allowing for more creativity as well as the ability to fine-tune and adjust each piece of the map you create. The armory now allows players to better customize their spartan, with a wide variety of armor pieces that the user can unlock as they rank up.
There are however some flaws that are not forgivable to me though, which do harm the rating of a near perfect game. Friendly AI in the campaign can be insufferable, with higher difficulties usually resulting in invincible walking and talking bricks as the rest of Noble team, compared to the player who can be easily taken out by a grunt if they are not careful. Noble Team AI frequently would appear to bug out, as they would freeze up in place and not even attack enemies, to the point where i would have to melee them to get them to move up to the next objective at least twice a mission.
In conclusion, I do highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of Halo or scifi FPS games, though I do recommend a pass on difficulties such as legendary due to the insufferable AI making the game more difficult then needed and borderline insufferable. Besides the flaws with the campaign, it is a solid conclusion to Bungie's work on such a beloved series. With the mostly free DLC on the XBox 360, It is definitely worth the current price.

I love how the story has the character ware your multiplayer armor set. Noble 6 is already a mostly blank slate for you to put your self in and this makes the game even more effective. The game feels like a love letter to the series with effectively your own spartan and actions being the reason by the end that the subsequent trilogy to even occur. Prequels usually suffer from the audience knowing what's gonna happen by the end as is the nature of a prequel. And while we knew sorta what was gonna happen as we herd about how Reach was destroyed in the other games and expanded material. But the game gives a great cast of Spartans in your team that you come to know during the game only to slowly kill them off until your final stand is both genius and just very effective in showing the tragedy of Reach. So I love the story and in visuals and sound the game much like its predecessors is really solid. The gameplay is also really good although there are some minor changes that I and a lot of fans weren't a fan of. Such as adding bloom to the guns which never bothered me that much but can be annoying at least in multiplayer and the new armor abilities. The most annoying one being the armor lock especially in multiplayer can be a real headache as it allows a player to be invincible for a couple of seconds. Other then those aspects which for me are fairly insignificant the rest of the gameplay is really solid and a ton of fun. The enemy AI is still really solid with enemy's making pushes when they know your shield is down and taking cover when grandees are thrown along with a bevy of other small details that make fighting them so fun and repayable. Designs for the covenant have been tweaked but aside from the brutes who just look weird the rest of the cast looks wonderful or relatively the same. My favorite being the elite who were made to stand up straight making them taller and more intimidating. One really annoying thing with enemy behavior is the melee swings of covenant happen so quickly you have no way to counter them. Which on higher difficulties can be a one shot kill. Overall the Reach campaign is a ton of fun and while I might not put it higher then the original trilogy it is right below them if I had to rank them. The multiplayer though is also great and I've spent a ton of time in the past playing it. And aside from some of those minor annoyances I mentioned earlier the multiplayer is still great competitive fun. Along with the forge mode which was expanded upon from 3 and I cant even count how many hours I spent making maps and playing other peoples customs maps and just screwing around with the game engine with friends to see what we could get away with. Halo Reach holds a special place in gaming for me and I believe it still holds up just as well as the original trilogy based on my most recent playthrough of the series. Expand

Some say this was a step in the wrong direction for the franchise, to which I agree for the most part when it comes to weapon bloom and abilities, but I also think that bungee did the right thing by wanting to move the franchise forward into the modern shooter era, which by that time every game had sprint and what not, they just didn’t quite hit the nail on the head the way most people would’ve liked. I absolutely love the campaign, it’s replay ability is crazy, I’ve played this campaign so many times and I still get emotional hearing the score play at the end of the game after all the characters I loved were killed before me. Easy 9/10 game for me, it would easily be a 10/10 game had they simply just removed bloom and spent more time making unique maps instead of adding a bunch of forge made ones. Expand

The story of campaign is okay. Not great. Noble Six being a self insert character for the player is great, allowing you to feel like you really are in the Halo universe. The other characters are not so enjoyable. I don't hate Noble Team. I really don't. They just don't get enough time to really flesh them out. The only ones that I actually care about are Emile because he has a very clear and present personality and you get to spend time alone with him, and Jun but that's because Jun survived past Reach and is featured in quite a bit of post-Reach media. So the characters aren't the best, okay. But what about the actual story. It's pretty good. The game tells you that you lose within the first few seconds. But you don't feel that way up until Long Night of Solace. The game makes you feel like you can take on the whole damn Covenant (much like the trilogy did) before ripping that away and showing you that you cannot win. Then you are left to walk through a city under siege and see the Covenant's brutality against the people. That is the beauty of Halo Reach's storytelling. It carries you to such high high's before pulling you right back down. Incredible.

The campaign's gameplay is also pretty fun. It has a couple cool new weapons, returning weapons feel good, it works well. The level design is good and the variety in level layouts and locations are great. Gameplay wise, campaign holds up well.

Multiplayer is interesting. The armor abilities are very controversial, and in my opinion are a good addition. I like what they bring to the table. Ten years after this game's release and there are still people playing online on the 360 (I know because I'm one of them). That should go to show that people still enjoy this multiplayer. Firefight is the only part I'm really split on. I think it was better in ODST. In ODST you felt like your back was up against the wall at all times. Here it feels more like you're DOOM Slayer rather than Soap McTavish (Gruntpocalypse is pretty fun though).

Overall, Reach holds up really well. While the campaigns story doesn't hit as hard as Halo 4's, and the multiplayer doesn't quite rival Halo 3's, Reach is overall incredibly solid.

Halo: Reach is a substantial departure from the previous mainline Halo games. The soundtrack and environments are as great as they've always been. The graphics are also very impressive and still hold up to this day.
The gameplay still feels similar to the previous titles, but the addition of some controversial features, such as the ability to sprint for a limited time, made it stand out. To me they didn't feel too drastic and they also never felt necessary in any encounter. In previous titles, when an enemy shot you while aiming, you would stop doing it, however here it's not the case, making it so staying far back and shooting the enemy's head was the most viable approach.
The narrative feels dark and gritty and it portrays the desperation of the battle of Reach that had been previously mentioned in other games. It feels like a losing battle every step of the way. The characters, while interesting, felt underdeveloped, so you weren't very attached to most of your team. By this time, Halo's narrative also started going down a path that if you didn't read or watch any of the extended material besides the games, you would be a little bit confused about what was going on and who certain characters were (a problem that increased more and more in the following games).

Overall, the game is a good send-off to Bungie as the developers of this franchise and, despite how controversial some decisions were, you have to admit they were trying to innovate and leave a mark. And I'd say they mostly succeeded...

If you loved all the other Halo games, there's little I can say to dissuade you from purchasing Bungie's last creation in the Halo series.

Halo: Reach is not a breakthrough, yet it's a clear showcase of Bungie's creative growth. The game is hardly a "must buy" – its single-player campaign is way too short and uneven in quality, while multiplayer has very little room for expansion besides map packs and useless character decorations. But with that said, Reach is worthy of your attention for a couple of evenings.

Almost achieves the impossible and fulfills the hype. Among the best shooters ever created. [Issue#231, p.82]
