The story does a good job of retelling the events of the fall of reach. The characters are ok but dont expect to get connected to them as you would in a game like mass effect or heavy rain. The missions are fun and mix it up enough so you dont get bored in the games 8-10 hour long story. This is the most difficult Halo game yet, with smarter A.I and the health pack system from Halo:ODST. Then there is firefight mode. The upgrade here is huge, you can now change the settings to optimize your experience as you see fit. Do you want to fight nothing but grunts with rocket launchers an gravity hammers? Go right ahead! The options are endless, and you can take on the challenges of both the story an firefight with 4 player co-op. Multiplayer is still really fun, and more skill based then ever. The classic halo game modes are back and the new invasion game type is good, pitting elites against spartans, the spartans must defend generators while the elites try to destroy them. Its fun and a good change of pace. This game is a must buy for anyone with a Xbox 360 period. Expand

Remember the laughably bad storyline Halo 2 featured? How about Halo 3's? The Halo series is well-known for its multi-player, and also its stories. But now, as a sterling star to guide through the night, Halo Reach has delivered. I'm not a big fan of the Halo series, or the CoD series, but I will say this is one of this years best FPS's. Reach delivers a tale of Noble squad, a group of Spartans ordered with protecting the planet Reach from the Covenant invasion. Of course, if you know your Halo lore you know how this story will end, but as a good person once told me, "Sometimes it's about the journey to the end that matters most, not the ending itself." And boy, what a journey. By the end of the game, you will feel like you've actually connected with the other Spartans of Noble, but then again character development still isn't that good. The ending is great, showcasing a feat of valor and sacrifice that tops off the Reach story greatly. An amazing feature is the ability to customize the look of your Spartan, for both single-player and multi-player. And multi-player now has armor abilities instead of powerups, like a jetpack or sprint ability, though the bubble-shield makes a cool appearance. If you like FPS's or any of the Halo games, this is for you. Expand

Reach is one of the top games of 2010 and will probably still be a top contender in 2011. Single player and multi player are top notch. I got it the first day and haven't taken it out of the disk drive. Probably won't until Fallout New Vegas or Black Ops

Best Halo overall so far, I just wished they would get more in depth with the campaign, but there is so much to do you will be entertained for a very long time. This is most likely not a game for you if you are bad at it, I say this because most of my friends that have this that are bad do not like it because it is a very skillful game, but Bungie has added set list for more casual gamers.

That being said, while no game is perfect, Halo: Reach is as close as it gets. All of the negative reviews that say the campaign is horrible, I ask "why?" Yes, it's a little short, but it tells a great story with some of the most memorable moments out of any Halo game - and since when have we bought Halo games for the campaign alone. The multiplayer is the real treat and that is where Reach delivers most. To all of the negative reviewers saying the gameplay feels dated, what did you expect? Call of Duty-style gameplay? And that's not to say that the gameplay is dated - it's Halo - the same Halo gameplay we've come to love over the years, with the addition of guns actually having accuracy, among a few other things. To call Reach's gameplay dated would be like saying MW2's gameplay feels dated in relation to MW - it's practically the same game (with a few additions), so of course the gameplay will be practically the same. And yes, all of the unlocks are for looks only, but I like that opposed to games like MW2 where people are at a great advantage over you just for being higher level than you, since they have more (if not all) of the guns, perks, and attachments unlocked. OMG ONE MAN ARMY, DANGER CLOSE, NINJA FTW! (not!). It gives people a much more level playing field. Some people want super-realism in their shooters (COD) and others want strategy and teamwork (Halo). I've gotten so burnt out on MW2 over the last year because of all of the hackers, modders, tenth prestige lobby spammers, not to mention the noob-tubers who kill you across the map without even trying. Yet in less than a month after this game came out, Bungie already banned 15k people for using a credit exploit. Compare that to the year that MW2 has been out and neither Infinity Ward nor Activision has done a damn thing about the hackers and modders that plague that game. At least Bungie cares about their community and the people who buy their games - Activision just wants your money, plain and simple.

This game, as all Halo games, is also colorful - a welcomed break from the brown and green of your super-realistic shooters. Even some of the positive reviews say Reach's graphics are lacking, but I'd have to disagree with that as well. Anyone who says Reach's graphics look old are probably playing split-screen (which greatly hinders the graphics) and not full screen, in all its glory. This game supports something like four times the amount of polygons that Halo 3 did and twice as many particle effects that Halo 3 did. Or maybe people who say Reach's graphics are dated aren't playing on an HDTV, who knows.

All I know is that if you've been a fan of Halo in the past, Reach is a must buy. If you haven't been a fan of Halo in the past, Reach probably won't impress you. But that's always how Halo has been - you either love it or you hate it.

One last thing, to anyone saying that you're trading in Reach for Black Ops: Please do. Go enjoy your hacked/modded/noob-tube game with zero support from the developers. You won't be missed. Black Ops is also made by Treyarch, the geniuses who made the completely imbalanced, poor excuse for a COD game, World at War. Enjoy.

Halo Reach takes place prior to the events of Halo 1 and although many speculate that this is based off the Novel "Fall of Reach" by Eric Nylund, it is not. In Halo Reach you play as Noble 6, a replacement for a member of Noble team who has died. In the beginning you and the rest of Noble team are dispatched to a relay outpost that has gone dark, under the assumption that insurrectionists are responsible. You soon discover that the covenant are on Reach, and begin a campaign to defend the planet. This review will be done in sections that will cover the entirety of the game modes and content.

First off is the story, as mentioned earlier Halo Reach is a prequel to the series. The games in which you played as the infamous Master Chief sent you on an intergalactic opera slowly cutting down the covenant and always coming out on top. In Halo Reach the story takes place solely on the Planet Reach, a human military stronghold that was home to the Spartan II project. As the Master Chief was in the Spartan II class, Noble 6 is not. Noble team is comprised entirely of Spartan IIIâ

The rock paper scissors of Weapon vs. Melee vs. Grenade makes the multi-player combat infinitely fun, and of course the awesome vehicles are just icing on the cake.

The only complaint I have is, there aren't enough Invasion maps! I didn't care for this mode at all during the beta, but after getting into BF:BC2 heavily earlier this year, it's now become my new favorite MP mode. Fortunately the Noble Map Pack (coming out soon!) has at least one new invasion level, though hopefully two of them can be played as such.

Great job Bungie! It's nice to see them leave the series at it's peak, I don't really know how 343 Industries can top Reach, but I hope they can at least come up with something as compelling.

Bungie's Halo swan song is a perfect example on how to do first person shooters right on a console. The single player has a good story with improved cinematic direction over past games.Bungie's Halo swan song is a perfect example on how to do first person shooters right on a console. They took everything they have learned since the first Halo on the original Xbox, and a ton of fan feedback and crafted not only the best Halo game but also one of the best console games this generation. The single player has a good story with improved cinematic direction over past games. Bungie is really starting to get good at visually telling a story.

The graphics have been improved greatly. Not only all the maps huge and very complex but they are also highly detailed with some truly impressive lighting and particle effects. Texture for texture Halo Reach isnt the best looking game on consoles but when you consider the size of everything, the indoor outdoor shifts, map complexity, all the effects and all the action thats going on it really is quite impressive what bungie has done and this is easily one of the overall prettiest games to grace any console.

The sound design is nothing short of incredible. There is so much variety in ambient noise and weapon effects it puts even Halo 3 to shame. The score is once again a masterpiece that is far and above better than any other games out there. If there is one thing Bungie does better than anyone else its audio and Halo Reach is a shining example.

The campaign in Reach is arguably the best in the series. Its about 10 hours on normal difficulty and it has the same options as Halo 3 in terms of the scoring system, coop etc. The new armor abilities open up a range of new tactical options and the semi non linear action zones in the maps only add to the fun. If you have played and enjoyed a Halo game you know what to expect. Of course it feels like Halo, if it didnt then it wouldnt be the series so many love. If you arent a fan of past games chances are you wont be a fan of this one. There are a number of changes to weapons and there have been tweaks to gameplay so you should give it a chance but dont expect it to feel like a new series. They tweaked things like running speed, jump height, fall damage etc and the AI has been made far more complex and far more cunning. For example I was having an issue killing a grunt, he kept running away and hiding behind cover. He was slowly leading me down a hallway with lots of corners, I figured he was just being a classic grunt and running away only stopping every once and a while to shoot or toss a grenade. Little did I know he was playing me for the fool..he lead me directly into an ambush where I was quickly killed by a combination of 5 elites and some jackals. This was on normal difficulty. The AI gets much more difficult with a host of new tactics when you play on Legendary.

The mutliplayer in Reach is nothing short of amazing. Once again Bungie has designed some of the best maps on any platform. They are all perfectly balanced with multiple gametypes. If you like competitive shooters its pretty much a given that you will find some fun in Halo online. Bungie has added unlocks via credits earned from matches. Thankfully (imo) they didnt go the call of duty route where perks make you more powerful. In Reach you unlock visual upgrades that give you a unique look and nothing more. I think its better this way. It gives you something to earn and play for but it doesnt unbalance the game. I never liked how COD would reward higher skill players by making them more powerful.

I meant for this to be a quick first review but I have failed. Some how my thoughts may seem disjointed and im jumping around. This is due to lack of sleep since I cant stop playing Reach any chance I get which means im up incredibly late to play and I wake up super early for work. You owe it to yourself, no matter what console you prefer or own to at the very least try everything this game has to offer. Its an enjoyable experience single player and multiplayer and thats not even including the awesome forge mode and firefight.

The story ending is probably one of the best endings I've seen in year for a game, other than ME2 or RDR (I prefer not to spoil the ending). The controls are not that bad, the only problem I have with it is the assassination, sometimes the button doesn't work, or maybe it's just my handling. But overall the control of the character is pretty good. The guns are the same throughout the halo series (other than the new armor abilities), but intervened a few new ones, which were quite useful and helpful. I quite enjoyed using the needler rifle to blow my enemies sky high. But I find it a little upsetting with the time different, because they intervened new weapons in Reach, that never appeared in halo 1, 2 or 3. The artwork is also astounding, great job by the game developers, loved the background. Also the easter eggs are highly the best to have fun with. Really those who own the game, search for the easter eggs and you'll love what you'd find, if you loved the games halo 1,2 and 3. The character you play is also astounding. You've got new armour and looks for your guy. It much more specific than halo 3. The details of the looks are new and amazing, unless your not into how you look. The online matchmaking is quick and very easy to use. Loved the multiplayer, felt like it was halo 2 again! I don't mind the firefight or the online co-op campaign. Doesn't matter if it the same in halo 2 and 3 or ODST. I mean seriously it should not be a factor of dislikes, they have new maps new enemies and heroes. I mean overall the game is excellent, but every game has its little glitches or defaults. So I really had to give it a 10. I'd say this is as good as Halo 2, maybe even better. This is the best way to end the series with a bang. Expand

let me start off by saying that i hate prequal games because you already know whats gonna happen later so when i bought this game i had very low standards for it but i was wrong, this is really good, the variety of gameplay it has, the new weapons, and of course the new multiplayer, the storyline it has is very good, but the game does has its problems which is why i give it a 9/10

Having not cared as much for Halo 3 as I would have liked to, Reach swooped back and rekindled my interest in the franchise. The story is better, the graphics are better, the gameplay is polished to the EXTREME and multiplayer is better than it has ever been with flawless level design. This is a full package with seemingly endless amounts of gameplay, not including solid DLC support.

Despite this, I enjoyed mainly the game play structure and weaponry design as Halo: Reach proved to me that it was the best Halo game I've ever played by now, even better than the intense, action-packed 2012 game Halo 4. In the Firefight and Forge especially, I felt with my friend who happens to be a PS3 player, ironically enjoying the variety of enemy waves, weapons on different locations and the aesthetic graphical details of the rich, iconic Sci-Fi franchise! Forget the Campaign idea, the Forge and Firefighter are highly recommended to play, which also save's this game's backside from getting 8 or lower, if it wasn't for the brilliant concept of Forge mode and Firefight mode.

Noble 6 is just as cool as Master Chief, if not better. I will miss Bungie and the end of Reach for whenever I play on an Xbox360. I pray that Microsoft doesn't screw this up, ever. Again, a must buy and a touching, awesome ending to the greatest franchise on the Xbox360. Expand

As good as the previous Halo's. The campaign is clever and engaging, but achievable even on solo legendary. Multiplayer is yet again outstanding. Any halo fans need this game. I just wish that they hadn't replaced some of the weapons with worse versions.

Reach is a game you just can't stop playing. The campaign is so much fun, especially playing in co-op with friends. Firefight is improved over Halo 3: ODST, and very exciting. Looking at multiplayer, it is filled with the best game modes in the franchise, great gameplay, and tons of different options. Definitely a game you could stay addicted to for months.

It may now be true to Halo's roots, but it is a perfect Halo, and we can only hope that Halo 4 will blow us away even more.

It is a great prequel to the other games, continuing off of the idea that the Covenant wants to wipe out the humans because we conflict with their religion. The entire universe that is created in these games is so incredible, it could be a movie. The entire plot of thousands of years ago the Forerunners taking a few sentient species aboard the Halos, and then activating the Halos to wipe out all sentient life to wipe out the flood. Multiplayer is incredibly fun--Slayer and Firefight--and I feel the point system, player skill system, and the dropped game penalty is much, much better than Halo: 3. And, well, armor customization is a great reward for accruing points earned just by having fun. The weapons all feel like they pack more of a punch than the weapons in Halo:3, which is a huge plus. The story is a good prequel to Halo Combat Evolved, gives good back story to cortana, the beloved AI that helps Master Chief. The Multi-player is good for competitive and lazy players, many different game types that keep you from getting bored. You will spend too much time playing this game, but it is totally worth it for the fun you get out of it. The Forge is way better than Halo 3, Smooth, Easy, Quick. You can build maps quickly or spend time and have great detailed maps. The Firefight mode is awesome, with new game types and custom game types you will want to continue on battling the covenant. I started from the beginning again and went for a full play through and I gotta say, I didn't expect it to be that good (although after the surprise that ODST was I should have been prepared). Visually I was used to it after having played so much online, but it still was pretty and I always have loved the look of the Halo universe. It was interesting how this contrasted to the other off-main-series Halo game in that you weren't trying to find people but instead losing them throughout. The story was solid, not exactly memorable but a lot of fun along the way and you didn't really feel like you were doing stupid **** for the sake of playing a game. Recently I heard a distinction between Halo and most FPS's and I though it rang true in this game: Halo is not about who pulls the trigger faster but about individual engagements. I must have forgotten at some point what it was like to go into a battle feel like a vulnerable boss who can destroy everything if the strategy is right. So it was that style of combat, the great atmosphere, and the fantastic score that made this an awesome game and memorable as a whole. Oh, and the final scene was a nice touch too. Expand

Halo: Reach is a rather interesting Halo game, as it actually goes back into the past to tell a story. Halo: Reach is set in 2552 on the UNSC's most protected planet, Reach. Noble six is a serious badass, but unlike the chief he openly engages in conversation. This adds more character development to Noble six than to Master chief, and thanks to Reach's armor customization he looks the part as well. Reach eventually is overrun, and the ending nearly makes you want to cry. Halo: Reach also has a unique multiplayer, and feels a lot like Halo: CE's split screen. Weapons have bloom, so players can't spam the trigger. For better or worse, Halo Reach adds a new feature in the form of armor abilities. These are basically retooled equipmen from Halo 3, and are a lot of fun to mess around with. Reach's maps are nicel constructed, and with community forge maps it feels like there are endless pla areas in Reach. The forge is also fantastic, and really improved upon Halo 3's basic editing. Halo Reach does lack a 1-50 system, but has 4 years worth of ranks to work at. Reach's multiplayer is definitely comparable to the other Halos, an has an addictive side to it.

In conclusion, Reach i a fantastic Halo game. It's filled to the brim with content, and th possibilities with the forge are endless. If you haven't already, definitely go out and buy Halo: Reach, it's one of the best X-box 360 titles OU there.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is just so good the series now has some new power ups to use in the game they 's:
jet pack, sprint, a decoy to use which works pretty well vs other people it stand somewhere and won't do a thing but then you can lob a grenade if they close to it,
the camouflage basic ly turns you in visible until you run so moving slow is the best way to use this little gadget, drop shield gives you a shield to reflect bullets, armour lock the guy will fall on his knees and punch the floor so the guy who use it will be immortal for the time being but the biggest drawback is that you're open to attack after you done it.

Well single player is always the same apart from when you have to fly this ship and shoot down other ships, single player can be a bit dull and boring at times.

My biggest fave of all time for Halo Reach is the big multiplayer option and so many game modes on it up to 8 players with 2 360 's they can join in.

My fave mode is infection or zombie mode where one person is this zombie with high life and a good weapon and must infect others by killing them.
Can sound easy but it's not.

That's not all, they is the on line mode too with other players.

So any Halo fan would love this 10/10

The campaign is thrilling and emotional, multiplayer and forge are almost limitless, and then they have firefight. To haters of this game: think about it! Campaign is very good. Don't think the AI's are stupid because they don't just destroy the whole planet with corvettes (giant covenant spaceships) . If you listen to what they say in the game you will get it. The covenant have to kill the MAC cannons or else they're cruisers will be shot down. So they send their soldiers to try to kill the UNSC force on Reach. The whole reason the Spartans are there is to basically protect the MACs! If there were no MACs the covies WOULD just destroy the planet. Plus, the covenant want a precious resource on Reach so they don't want to destroy the whole planet. Anyways, great game, good graphics for its release date, almost limitless multiplayer, and is now under 20$ in most stores. I highly recommend it more than Halo 4 too. Halo: Reach is not a breakthrough, yet it's a clear showcase of Bungie's creative growth. The game is hardly a "must buy" – its single-player campaign is way too short and uneven in quality, while multiplayer has very little room for expansion besides map packs and useless character decorations. But with that said, Reach is worthy of your attention for a couple of evenings.
