SO i just want to talk about the campaign wich is brilliant!!! The ending is one of the best in all video games. The gameplay very smooth and fun, i never get bored and it has some quick and exciting action. Sure, it is a must play and one of the best shooters too. Not the best halo though ;)

The best game in the entire series. This is a great installment to the Halo games. Anyone who disagrees probably just doesn't appreciate the formula, which can be just as intense as COD with next to no frustration factor. I really don't understand the low user reviews here, I guess this is what happens when you let idiots who aren't experienced reviewers rate games!

    Cons:
    - The campaign still seems a bit too short...
    - Squadmate AI seems to have gotten dumber.
    - No boss battles or Scarab fights. Tougher enemies like Hunters and Wraiths are few and far between. - I can live without dual-wielding, but only 4 grenades (2 plasma/2 frag)? WTF, Bungie?
    - Not a big deal, but it's been bugging me a little bit: Why exactly is running an Armor Ability? Shouldn't a super-soldier of the future ALWAYS be able to run?

    Conclusion:
I highly recommend that everyone who owns an Xbox 360 at least try this game. I'm not convinced that it is superior to Halo 3, but it's a close competition. The pros far outweigh the cons. Even if you find the Campaign to be too brief (as I did), Firefight and Multiplayer should offer plenty of fun.

Quite a lot of things have changed, health is back, there's loads of new guns, new multiplayer modes, vehicles, etc. Some games have configurable classes as well. The campaign in really good, with lots of diversity in missions. Firefight is back, and Forge has been overhauled so you can make some very imaginative maps in the Forge World. Also you can get ranks and XP offline as well. There's massive character customisation too. If you can imagine changing your spartan or elite, you can do it, and you have to buy these things with XP.

The graphics didn't come across as spectacular, but I was playing on a 46" HDTV so any visual flaws were probably heightened. Also I felt we could have done with some more MP maps, there aren't very many at the moment, and they are all bits from the campaign. Not as interesting as Halo 3's maps. Hope DLCs are on the way.

Very fun. Overall much better than CoD: Black Ops. You're missing out, PS3 gamers.

Halo: Reach is Nearly a Flawless Game, The Multiplayer is Practically Impossible to Improve and The Single Player Campaign is One of the best of the Halo Franchise. But it did not have that enjoyable feel that the First 3 Halo's had. At least it was alot better then Halo: Wars and Halo 3: ODST which were not that good.

While a lot of people say Bungie has done nothing new with Reach, I just say they haven't played yet. Armour abilities, an extensive cosmetic armoury and a graphics quality to die for. The story was a little iffy at points but the action more than makes up for it. The multiplayer is fun and rewarding. It's consistent, balanced, and hectic to say the least. Also I don't understand what people mean about the graphics being poor. Obviously they don't know the technical side behind it all. Higher resolution textures than have ever been on the x-box, higher poly models than have ever been on the x-box and shadowing and specular quality I have never seen on a console. I guess you need to know to see. Overall, great graphics, great multiplayer, awesome action and a story that holds replay value. Seriously, stop comparing this to MW2 and compare to other sci-fi shooters like Crysis. Which it is ultimately better than. Expand

Fantastic. Takes all the best parts of Halo 1,2, and 3, alongside firefight from ODST, and adds it's own unique spin. As this is Bungie, the minor fan service details are wonderful. Ten purchasable firefight voices (including master chief!) are simply one of many excellent touches that Bungie has put into this game.

Bungie may have left the Halo franchise for new endeavours, but they left it, and their fans, with a grand farewell, the best incarnation of the Halo universe, and a lot of digital toys for multiplayer fans to play with for a long time to come.

The single player campaign, though short, ends on a great note (no spoilers), and the multiplayer tops every other FPS console game out there, bar none. I suspect that my CoD MW2 disc is going to go unused for a LONG time to come.

It's something you should first get used to before passing judgement. When I see people giving negative reviews, they often mention "old game play" But honestly, every shooter I've ever played has the same rule that put no difference between each other, that being, shoot and kill, and the difference is the execution between control layouts and what your get out of doing it. Grunt Birthday party, is fun, but not nearly as it was in Halo 2. As the game progresses, you get to know and respect your team for their strengths and character. AI is still at a point where you don't let them drive, though they seem less prone to flip, they drive like someone just stepping to the driver's seat, slowing you down quite a bit. Only thing I don't like is the lack of Flood, though they are rightfully left out, I wish they were in Fire Fight. Let's face it, they didn't get much attention in Halo 3. I will admit, I am disappointed, but that's because I was looking forward to something as epic as Mass Effect 2. It isn't, but it is hard to compare to a game of that caliber, that and the fact that they're different genres; Mass Effect being a 3rd person RPG, giving it more room, options, and several different ways to interact with people and knowing characters to a more personal level, (I fell in love with the cinematic) and Halo Reach being a 1st person Shooter with1 ending and characters showing who they are gradually as it progresses on a professional level. When it comes to game-play, it does seems like it's slower paced than the other installments, which continues to bother me, but I also had the same problem with Mass Effect 2. Overall, this is a game worth checking out. Expand

Slow and methodical at some times, frantic and explosive at others, it's challenging, engaging, and will have you in zen mode at the edge of your seat.

The campaign is a sweeping, if somewhat flawed, epic. We all know Reach falls...but Bungie made the somewhat controversial decision of stepping on established timelines to deliver the optimal game experience for the gamer, not the Halo lore fan. And that's totally understandable, because it's still a blast to play through. And, while some of the characters are extremely well-developed, others seem to fade from the story in rather baffling and confusing ways. However, through-and-through, anybody can enjoy the solid challenge Reach presents over its 7-hour campaign. If only it had been longer.

Multiplayer is everything every Halo has ever been, and then some. The old adage applies: "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" Frankly, because it's fun. Take that pacing and energy, toss in a couple new weapons and some minor gameplay tweaks, sprinkle on some fan service, and absolutely drown everything in all the custom options and content you could possibly ask for, and you're getting your money's worth here, people. This game will last. And Halo has proven once again just how awesome it can be when played with friends -- team up with good friends over Live, and you'll find no shortage of enjoyment when your playstyles synergize.

Overall, an excellent game. It's really actually sad to see that PS3 and PC owners won't get their hands on this unless they buy a 360, but seeing as Bungie's new deal with Activision is by no means console-exclusive, anybody who owns any platform should look forward to the kind of quality and quantity Bungie has proven they are capable of with this last Halo.

The reins have been handed to Microsoft. Let's hope they're kind to this old horse.

Everything is well done from the story to the multiplayer. Add in a new ranking system and unlockables and a revamped Forge mode and BLAM! you have the deepest and most rich offering of Halo ever conceived. So why isn't this game a perfect 10? Because the formula hasn't changed enough to give long-time fans something fresh enough, and while this may be Bungie's last entry into the FPS universe, at least as far as Halo in concerned, this likely isn't the last we've seen of Halo (the franchise is too big to just end right now, expect something in 2012 from Microsoft Game Studios, who own Halo).

In a mix where games like Mordern Warfare 2, Medal of Honor, Gears of War, Crysis and others are setting high bars and delivering more blistering action through robust campaigns and multiplayer, Halo simply isn't the sole king of the multiplayer universe. While Halo: Reach is fun and offers moments of fresh content and new takes on multiplayer (Invasion and Arena are nice touches), what you will notice after you've dropped your first 30 hours into the game is that it just doesn't hold your attention like it once did. Gamers new to the Halo scene will find this game absolutely mind-blowing, but you can bet 90% of the gamer population have ridden this bike before, and they can feel the need for change.

So if you were hoping for a complete reboot of the series... you may or may not find it here. I was definitely hoping for a super epic story & campaign run-through with a fully-fleshed out online experience that would borrow from the ideas of games like Modern Warfare or Battlefield 2. While you can definitely tell Bungie took a couple pages from opposing playbooks, they certainly didn't rewrite them to the point that Reach could bust out of the era of exceptional online games and stand as its own king like it did back in 2000. 10 years has made Halo fully realized, but one might think that while there is plenty to love here, there isn't plenty to keep you coming back for more and more like it once did. Halo 2 was likely the high point of online matchmaking. It was a first for the series and broke the doors open for Xbox Live. Reach, however, won't find a high sustained population of Xbox Live players like the series once did.

The competition has nearly caught up, and what remains to be seen is whether Halo will ultimately be remembered as the game that once changed gaming history, or whether it will continue to reshape the game industry of tomorrow and be the cornerstone of which other developers build upon as our technology advances and the possibilities truly become limitless.

In Reach, Bungie implemented many new features, such as the ability to customize Firefight, as well as more armor modification, weapon load-outs, and a stunning new set of Forge options, some of which allowed the return of the Halo series most enjoyed multiplayer map; Blood Gulch. Reach's' story ties up some lose ends in the beginning of the series, and had an enjoyable and memorable cast of characters and experiences. All in all Bungie out did themselves on Reach

Reach has a few problems though, as all high content games do. Sacrifices are made of course and some things cant be fixed. Reach's' new forge controls are a little disappointing due to less free movement of the object and camera during placement. Reach had a few quirks in its friendly AIs, and also, due to high frame-rates, many gamers are experiencing 'simulator sickness' or motion blur. Reach's' graphics are a bit dated but have a very high particle and detail level. Id like to address some ignorance within reviews. Many people criticized Reach as being a money cow and nothing more. People don't understand that the game's developers make very little money on projects, no matter how well they sell. Microsoft gets the profit because its a publisher and is responsible for Reach's sale. Reach is Bungie's creation, not Microsoft's. Just thought Id point that out, because it seems people fail to understand the industry and market when it comes to games. In the end it breaks down to great reviews or hater reviews, and that's all I'm seeing. And the hater reviews make poor arguments, as well as pointing out moot points that it would seem no one cares about. Lets let the reviews be real and heart felt. Not full of stupidity and hate. The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is great. The one problem I have with the campaign is the motion blur. It looks really bad. I hated firefight in ODST. I just couldn't get into it but it is so much better now that it's almost all I play. Forge has had a major update which makes it so much easier to use. But that's the problem; multiplayer. It's hard to describe but it's just not as fun as Halo 3. They killed all of my favourite custom games like Sacrifice as you can't splatter enemies when damage is turned off. They removed VIP for some reason which means no more Rocket Race. And finally, the maps. The majority of them are just plain bad. But even still, the multiplayer is awesome in it's own way and I'm gonna have a lot of fun with it. Perfect campaign, firefight is a huge step-up from ODST and multiplayer is still pretty fun. In my humble opinion, the single player campaign took a dive when the series moved to 360. ODST was less dramatic, but again, was so full of endless trekking about that it turned into abit of a yawnfest too. Don't get me wrong, I still liked both games. The multiplayer experience has only gotten better over time, even if some of the company you might meet are still the biggest 'tards you'd ever have the misfortune to be forced to play with. I just feel the campaign side of things has taken a backseat in the last couple of games to the series' stronger points.
Halo Reach surprised me. This is quite possibly the most solid shooter in the series I've played, perhaps, ever. I generally had fun doing stuff other then watching the cutscenes. The story is engaging, the gameplay challenging and the pacing is just right. The campaign is short, but there is so much to the halo experience these days, you won't mind. Overall, I was happy. Glad to see Bungie leave the series on a high.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, let me be the one to set things straight in this dumpster of a user review section. This game is very good in almost every way, save for a very few points. The graphics, while not being completely cutting edge, are still acceptable (somewhere around a COD MW2 level), and truly only come out in the background scenery, which at many times can be simply gorgeous and striking. The Orchestral Score is by far one of the best I have ever heard in any game, only realizing halfway through a level that, "Hey! This music really suits this level, and sounds good!" The plot is somewhat predictable, since you know that every member of Noble Team will die at one point or another, but the storytelling is rather good, and presents it in an only sometimes clear fashion (I'm still not exactly clear how Jun dies). Each mission of the unbearably short campaign is extremely varied and very fun to play, and the additions of the Sabre, MAC Cannon, and the entire level based around flying a falcon all add to the general feel of the game. The emotion of only being a small part of a large battle is ever prevalent, and only breaks at the very end of the game. This game, unlike every other Halo game, surprisingly does not suffer from the one horrible level syndrome (ex. Halo 3 - Cortana). The enemy AI is surprisingly, and almost frustratingly smart; uncannily knowing exactly when they're in your crosshairs. The multiplayer is also varied. The new armor abilities DO change the game significantly, and the new game modes and surprisingly large maps all are very exciting to play on, providing a completely different take on the entire battle the next game, forcing you to change your style of play entirely. The Theater function returns, stronger than ever, along with a newly revamped Firefight mode (now with matchmaking!). The Forge tool is very user-friendly when doing the simple effects, but completely changing a map or creating your own requires a significant input of time and effort, but can be immensely rewarding. My complaints of this game are few, but significant if playing on a harder difficulty. I first played through on Normal, and am currently on "The Package" level on Legendary difficulty, and my frustrations are obvious if you've ever played the game. Through all of the Halo games, Bungie has failed to get one thing right: checkpoints. Forcing me to respawn at a point where I have little ammo, no health, and surrounded by enemy vehicles over and over again until it finally hops me back to the previous checkpoint which I received a half hour gameplay time before the other is simply aggravating. If you are a a mediocre Halo player (like I am), you will find yourself taking 2+ hours to complete one level on Legendary difficulty, which, if I may add, has to be done Solo in order to earn the 150-point achievement. My one other complaint is the friendly AI. While I despise player-controlled AI teammates, I would have been fine with it if it had cut down the number of my deaths caused by being run over by my own Warthog or being driven into a swarm of enemies. That being said, the ability to have AI on your "fireteam" is a nice addition, even if they are extremely weak and die within 15 seconds of joining you. This is certainly Bungie's best Halo game, and I am satisfied and happy that they are moving on to do bigger, and hopefully better things. For anyone who actually bothered to read this entire review, I thank you. Finally, to all of the reviewers that gave this game a 0-5 rating: 1. Get the game and play it for yourself. 2. Judge it as its own game, and don't complain about not having features that the other games did, such as dual-wielding. Only master chief and the Elites are that adept at firearms, and is not a relevant point for this game. This is certainly my favorite game currently, and I will be playing for many weeks straight most likely. After my love-hate relationship with the campaign, I will fully enjoy the multiplayer for all it's worth. I hope everyone has fun with this game, and that they will actually get it. Expand

Halo Reach is hard to explain without leaving out something really cool, but I'll try my best. Reach isn't just halo 3 with a few new features, it's an entire new game. The online multiplayer feels different than halo 3 and some weapons/ tactics don't work the same any more. A FEW CHANGES...
Examples- If you melee someone in the back they usually won't die. Now you must assassinate them by holding down the melee button, but you will be a sitting duck while you finish the enemy off. The rocket launcher locks on again and there are now many ways to take out those pesky wraiths/scorpions. Forge is now a place where you can actually build maps with ease. Firefight has expanded and now has many ways to customize how the weapons and rules of the fight. weapons have been slightly changed to balance out the game. The good ol' magnum from halo 1 is back. The DMR(long range rifle) has replaced the old black rifle. The game adds the revenant, a cross between a ghost and a wraith(replaced the chopper). The game adds the falcon, a giant helicopter that can carry your team(replaced the hornet). New power-ups are now chosen just before the match starts and can be used any time in the match.

Well, that's enough to give you the idea of the change. I could go on, but it would be pointless. The halo haters new "thing" with reach is to say it's the same ol' halo. Well, let me just say this is the biggest change in a halo game ever. It is so much more than halo 3 that it's amazing they didn't mess the game up. Don't get me wrong though. Halo fans will like the changes. WHY I GAVE IT A 9....
There are two reasons I give halo a nine and not a ten.
    1. The single player didn't impress me. It reminded me of ODST's single player, which I didn't like.
2.Some online glitches. Mainly with infection mode and the shotgun not taking the right amount of damage when someone is right in front of you.

First off: Whoever gave this review under a 7 or over a 9.75 is crazy. They're just fanboys and should not live. I would like to start off saying that I am not basing this review on the originality of the game, I am basing it on how polished it is. However, I will take in account how similar it is to past Halo games.
And similar, it is not...at least not that much. There are still much of the same weapons, but each redone, and a few newbies. The winning gameplay formula is still present, but with a huge addition: armor abilities. I cannot express how much it improves the gameplay; maybe not so much in the campaign, but a lot in the multiplayer. It adds copious amounts of gameplay variation to come into play, and also improves the addiction factor.

As far as campaign goes (clocking in at about 10 hours), it is Bungie's best attempt yet; capturing the feeling of being on a team and enveloping you in a story that is at some moments touching, and at others action-packed and just plain fun. In fact, at some moments, I was so sad, that I cried...inside...not outside cause that would be weird. With a beginning that sucks you in, and a perfectly crafted climax, this campaign is, by far, the best of the Halos.

Unlike past Halo titles, this title does not suffer from the recycling of gameplay sequences; all are different. There is not one place that is identical to another. In fact, in one level, you come across a dance club that has been overrun by 9 or 10 hunters. It was probably the best, if not funniest, gaming atmosphere I have ever been in. Nevertheless, Halo Reach's campaign does have its shortcomings. For instance, there are some frame-rate issues that can diminish some parts of the game. It almost seems that the new graphics (and they are great) and what is happening can't keep up with the game's engine. However, this does not really fade the overall experience.

Apart from the campaign, there are numerous other game modes and and extras. Some of them include Theater, Forge, Character Customization, Firefight, and On and Offline Multiplayer. Theater is not unlike other Halo's, however it is easier to interact with.

Forge is almost completely redone, featuring an expansive user-friendly interface, and a massive world made entirely for forge.

Character customization is, again, completely redone. You can customize any and every part of your spartan through the purchase of parts by credits, which you earn by doing anything at all, be it forge or campaign or multiplayer. Also, your character model is present in both single and multi-player.

Firefight has finally met its potential in Reach, featuring numerous options and modes. Furthermore, there is a matchmaking option to firefight, which was absent in ODST.

Finally, there is multiplayer which is the without-a-doubt the best in the series. There is a lot more replayablity and strategy in this game than previous games. The armor abilities really add that extra feature that was seemingly absent from Halo 3. Furthermore, there is also a feature-filled stat tracker system that tracks any stat you could possibly imagine, be it from the campaign or the multiplayer. It even shows your service record from previous games.

Overall, this feature-rich, almost perfectly polished is a must-buy for Halo and multiplayer fans alike. Besides the minor foul-ups, this game is well deserving of every bit of praise it has received and will be played for years to come.

Graphics: 9.5 Once again, Bungie is at the apex of the Xbox graphics.
Gameplay: 10 A winning gameplay formula is furthermore improved by armor abilities, among other things.
Replayabilty: 9 As with all multiplayer games, it is infinately replayable. However, the campaign is always better the first time.
Story: 9.5 Involving, fun, well-paced, well-told, and a decent length.
Presentation: 10 An innovative menu system further improves an otherwise, almost flawless presentation.

And there it is, a Halo Reach review as told by a 16 year old.

I thought Halo 3 was a relatively packed and deep game, but Reach has the kind of customization options and variables that change the game going for it, that it's almost like playing a PC game with access to mods. You can do anything, you can change anything, you can build anything. Seeing that one of the developers made Pinnacle/Ascension from Halo 2 with the Forge World tools is impressive, but seeing the active community make The Pit, Hang 'Em High, Beaver Creek, other remade maps, and some mind-blowing original maps...it's astounding. Forge in Halo 3 was good, but there needed to be an excessive amount of time and a certain level of creative thinking to do something with it. Forge World on the other hand, is a brilliant canvas that can bring any of your ideas for a map to life without having to try too hard.

Bungie makes Halo games to be played for years on end. That is literally the design goal for them. That goal has been achieved with every main series entry of Halo, and people will be playing Reach a long time from now. On the first day alone, 9 million games were played online. The changes to the ranking system allows players to enjoy the game and keep playing no matter what playlist or mode they are active in. The Commendations give those extra little goals to strive for, and the Challenges, weekly and daily, give players a reason to check in on the game whenever they can and always have something new to do. It's all the little things that count in making the online experience much deeper. Things like the Active Roster, things like being able to take three friends online with me for the ride, and things like sending out a Hologram that someone shoots at for three seconds before he realizes he's made an oops, and then I come behind him with my shotgun and deliver my fantastic chiropractic abilities at the end of the barrel.

The campaign is great. Personally, I expected a bit more based around the events of the Fall of Reach, but what we got was good. Reach tells a story of war, and the sacrifice that comes with it. It starts out feeling very cookie cutter to be honest, but as it progresses, the overlying feeling of intensity increases. The set pieces aren't as epic as people who played the original trilogy may be used to. I remember so many moments from the campaigns in Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3, and the only real lasting memories of Reach's campaign are the space battle (which was like another game in itself) and the ending. The last half of that campaign is gripping. The way it closes out is touching.

But as always, what makes Halo above and beyond many other games and the king of it's genre, is the gameplay. The foundation Bungie struck gold with, a fusion of traditional shooter elements fighting over map control and fixed weapon spawns, combined with the unique weapons, physics, vehicles, map design, and new armor abilities. All the fixes the game needed from the beta have been made. Reach is every bit as accessible as the past Halo games. Bungie loads this game up with so much content. There is something for everyone if you are willing to take the time to find it, and everything for someone open-minded enough to appreciate quality game design. All of the new modes are fun. Team Stockpile and Team Headhunter is surprisingly intense and enjoyable. The new Arena playlist is groundbreaking and a genius idea. They have taken Halo, taken a few little qualities from other series and fused them without compromising the core of the game and the roots it was built upon. Halo: Reach is a fantastic example of how to keep something going. It isn't a franchise, it's a phenomenon.

Firefight has improved since Halo ODST; it's customizable as in adjust was and what aliens come after you and it's also a matchmaking playlist online as well.

Forge seems appealing to me but I spent MOST of my Halo Reach time matchmaking and completing daily challenges. I know you can get even MORE creative in Halo 3 since they made it more convenient as in you can making Objects float instead of doing some weird $%&@.

In visuals they improve pretty much EVERY little thing since Halo 3, the armor look more realistic, environments, even the helmet looks better.

It's similar to Halo 3 multiplayer, but the added sprint makes it feel more intense and makes up for the oversize maps. It's not frustratingly hard if you've played shooters previously. The sci-fi elements remain intact; don't expect a CoD clone when you pick this up. As for multiplayer modes, Bungie went full retard by adding jetpacks and an "armor lock" (ice block, anyone?) ability which completely ruins Slayer. (Slayer Pro fixes this issue, but is grouped in with other slayer modes.) But for people that enjoy Swat, Firefight, etc, you will be blown away. I have never once had the game lag, freeze, or glitch during the online multiplayer. As Bungie's final entry in the Halo franchise, it is quite clear they were in for one last hurrah. It showcased a brand new engine, built from the ground up, which makes Halo 3 look like a game from the last generation, even though both games are exclusive to the same system. In terms of visuals, Reach is a beautiful game. Textures have been vastly improved, along with exceptional lighting and shading. The amount of detail is impeccable, each location is unique in it's design and colour palette. However, one of the must important features of the engine, is the inclusion of motion blur, which allows for a much more cinematic experience. This also masks the fact that Reach only runs at thirty frames per second. The game does show case a high level of graphical fidelity, and this does cause the frame rate to drop when things get busy on screen, however, this is a minor annoyance considering it runs smoothly most of the time. In terms of gameplay, it's what you expect from the Halo franchise. Level design makes the most of it's sandbox style of approach. Yes, there are a few linear sequences throughout the campaign. The campaign is not overly scripted like other shooters,(Call Of Duty, I'm looking at you) but it combines the two for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The weapons remain the same, but have been refined and modified to provide a more thrilling shooting experience. Old favourites have returned, such as my best friend, the UNSC assault rife. The DMR also returns, but instead of a three shot burst, it's been dialed down to firing one shot at a time. You will encounter subtle changes across the board, but the weapons will retain essentially the same function from previous Halo games. If I have to gripe, I found myself retaining UNSC weapons throughout the campaign, the covenant weapons, in my opinion, don't offer the same level of satisfaction with the exception of explosive weapons such as the Brute shot and Plasma Launcher. Then we come to assassination kills, which allows the player to perform a brutal melee attack upon an unsuspecting enemy. This contributes to the overall cinematic experience.Suit abilities have been more streamlined and apparent, with the inclusion of abilities, such as sprint, armour lock, drop shield, active camo, evade and hologram. This allows the player to tailor a unique experience that suits any gameplay style.

The AI has also been given a major overhaul, Grunts make their return, serving the purpose of being the games cannon fodder once again. Grunts will often resort to run-and-gun tactics, and not utilize the dynamic AI showcased in other enemies such as Zealots and Brutes,(Yes, Brutes actually use their brains in this title). These enemies will work together, and sometimes flank you rather than take a head on approach. The drastically improved AI will bring a new level of challenge to the players, and players will benefit greatly from incorporating a tactical approach rather than going in with all guns blazing.

Personally, I found the Reach campaign the most enjoyable in the Halo franchise on the current generation of the Xbox 360. It is a thrilling experience from start to finish, boasting a simple, yet well-written story throughout. The story does indeed pull on some emotional chords, which is rare in action titles.Players unfamiliar with Halo lore will have no problems being immersed in a campaign that spans from eight to ten hours depending on your difficulty. The campaign offers four difficulty levels encouraging multiple playthroughs, adding to it's replay value. Halo: Reach is truly an amazing title, and is one of 2010's best shooters, if not the best Halo game to date.

Watch this space for my opinion on multiplayer and the revamped Firefight mode, and yes, it doesn't disappoint,.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Halo: Reach is a true successor to the Halo Trilogy. Though not quite as awesome as Halo 3, it is still very well done and worth playing for anyone who regularly plays shooters. The storyline is one of the series' best, but for quite a different reason then you'd expect; set in the weeks before the beginning of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo: Reach covers the stories of Noble Team, an elite task force of SPARTANS who help defend the planet during its siege at the hands of the merciless Covenant. Unlike that of the Master Chief in the original trilogy, the personalities of these characters are given likenesses and then fleshed out. This provides the main weight of the story, as anyone who has even heard of Halo has some idea that Reach is glassed by the Covenant at the end of that battle, and everyone on the surface is killed. The story does provide some small hopes for victory, but they are all eventually dashed. Ultimately, it is the realization that none of the main characters survive the game that sets the deep tone for the game's storyline. The gameplay is for the most part the same as that of the first three Halo games, but some tweaks, such as the new timing aim mechanic, help to keep the shot-by-shot gameplay from getting stale. There are also armor abilities, special defenses with a recharge that can turn the tables of any situation, or even an entire match, if used properly. Overall, the base of the gameplay is the same, just with a lot more depth. This game has more content than any I have played before. The campaign is quite short at just seven or so hours on the first time through, but its reply value on higher difficulty settings keeps it fresh. There is also the revamped Firefight mode, where in the pre-game menu you can set everything from the strengths of players to the types of enemies you face. Multiplayer has the bulk of the content, however. Ditching the skill based ranking system of previous installments, the multiplayer for Reach is instead now entirely experienced based and allows you to use that experience to purchase cosmetic armor upgrades. This is a very good idea, as it provides a much better incentive to keep playing then the simple hope of increasing your rank that the previous games had. Reach is a must buy. Basically everything about it has been improved to the point of near perfection. The only complaints I have about it are the semi-rechargeable health bar that requires med kits, and the fact that armor upgrades are purely cosmetic despite their deceptively detailed descriptions, but these are only very minor annoyances. With more quality and content than any other game can boast to have (with the single exception of Halo 3), Reach is a deal that no sane shooter gamer can refuse. Expand

The campaign is great, with characters you actually care about, incredibly smart (enemy) AI, and a mission or two that make you say, "I just did WHAT?!", Call of Duty style.
The true gem in the game, like many first-person shooters, is the multiplayer. New game modes like Invasion shake things up, with one team attacking control points and the other defending, while the game modes we all loved from the past games are back, like grifball.
The Forge is back, and better than ever. It's easier to use, and the game comes pre-loaded with the map Forge World, which has several relatively empty places to build from scratch. People, including me, like to complain about a lot of little things in this game, which prevented it from getting a perfect 10. Some of the ones I agree with: "The magnum still sucks!", and "What the hell are skirmishers?!"
All together, Reach is a great game with an incredible (and incredibly customizable) multiplayer experience, and it makes you wonder where the gaming industry would be if Reach didn't fall.

They are doing requests from the community (especially MLG) that are making it better for most people. I took a break from this game to go play battlefield 3 and was slightly surprised to have as much fun as I did before. FORGE: much improved on Halo 3s and is a very good map making system. MULTIPLAYER: fun and being changed for those who wanted zero bloom and rank playlists. CAMPAIGN: can play up to 4 people over live and two local (I think) . Short but made me sad at the end and clap. FIREFIGHT: improved off ODSTs game mode and I have made some pretty fun game types to play with friends. CUSTOM GAMES: imagine CoDs private matches on fun steroids. Paired up with forge and crazy changes to gun load outs, health, movement, damage, etc is really what makes me come back and play reach. The game runs pretty smooth for 30 FPS and with three map packs, people are just finding all kinds of things to do in the game. Graphics are pretty good but not the best compared to other games but still make the game enjoyable. I would consider this game medium paced and definitely not for everyone. But for those who like fun games Expand

Great game in a great series. I was never really a big Halo fan, but this game seems to be the best shooter out there for me right now. COD seems to have a ton of hackers/glitchers/modders etc. as well as childish players. Don't get me wrong, Halo has them too, but with the modes I play (Arena, MLG, Swat), I don't see too many. Also, I think Halo takes a bit more skill than COD. With all your killstreak awards, you are just asking for players to camp, and camp they do. Most people think that's the "cool" way to play shooters now. So, I rate Halo: Reach a 9, simply for beating COD and satisfying the need for a good shooter. Expand

An excellent game with a awesome story, strong characters and superb graphics. In my opinion, it brought many innovative things to the series like the armor abilities and space fights. The multiplayer part is as awesome as it is in previous game but with a few more adjustments. I recommend this to anyone who has a xbox 360 console.

I'm a huge fan of the halo franchise and this game too. This is probably one of the best of the series next to Halo 2. Awesome storyline really backs the cool effects and scenery. The campaign is really good. The multiplayer is bad ass too. It's fast and easy to get the hang of. Nothings better than a game of Halo. Can't wait till next one.

Reach is one of the best first person shooters out there. Although many of you may not understand the story line of the game because although its a prequel it still kind of expects you to have played the other games first. Many of you may also say the story doesn't step up to the plate of halo combat evolved but it is the best single player campaign since the first halo not because itsReach is one of the best first person shooters out there. Although many of you may not understand the story line of the game because although its a prequel it still kind of expects you to have played the other games first. Many of you may also say the story doesn't step up to the plate of halo combat evolved but it is the best single player campaign since the first halo not because its story is great but because there is so much variety. In one level you may be sneaking around on farmlands sniping down elites but in the next level you could be flying around on a gunship in a massive urban environment in the middle of an all out war. This game definetly has the most variety of any halo campaign even though its story may not be up to par of halo combat evolved, but that's why I gave it a 9 not a 10.
The multiplayer in this game also has an amazing amount of variety from up to a 4 player co-op Campaign (online 4 player, local 2 player), firefight, 4 player split screen, matchmaking, and not to mention its improved forge mode where almost any map from past halo games or completely new maps can be easily created or recreated. The improved forge mode also allows players to adjust current maps to their liking. But there are still some flaws that I'd like to see fixed about forge such as completely changing the colours (that's not bad grammar I'm just Canadian) of the building blocks instead of just changing what team it should belong to (red or blue). The game also has new features (which were inspired by COD MW) such as the equipment feature which allows you to have the ability either to sprint, jetpack, bubble shield, armour lock...etc. This feature adds a whole new strategy to the game as you can only carry one equipment at a time so you must choose between classes before the beginning of a match. It's a welcome addition to the gameplay but its obviously inspired by Call of Duty. Also inspired by Call of duty is its massively lengthy leveling up. It can take days to rank up once you get into the higher ranks and once you get to the extremely high ranks it can feel like forever to get to the next one. But with each new rank comes new armour which give you a slight satisfaction for wasting so much time trying to rank up. On to presentation, overall the graphics in this game are mediocre not the best graphics out there but there not terrible. The music as always is perfect for the game but I have to admit I do miss that famous sound of the quire singing. The voice acting is well done but kind of dull due to the storyline and the characters are kind of forgettable (again due to the storyline). At the end of the day Halo Reach may not have the best storyline or the perfect map creator or the best ranking up system but it does have one of the most fun gameplays out there with a lot of things to do so you're not gonna get bored quickly. Halo is about fun and variety which this game delivers that's why I'm giving it a 9/10.

Bungie's last halo game, for the most part they have made a very good game but I think they stayed too safe and did not take any risks. The campaign is good and the multiplayer is great, but there were not many maps and all the forge made ones are boring and dull. Overall its a very good game. 9/10

This is how you do a campaign in a shooter game. It was a thrilling and dramatic experience of battle, companionship and loss.
Also I was never sure how the story would unfold, if they would succeed in battle or not, which kept me very engaged. This was, apart from Half-Life 2 the best shooter campaign I every played.
Also the music and graphics were stellar. Giving this game a 10 would

If you like Halo buy it. Fantastic replay value and different game modes. Misses out on a 10 because of lack of Master Chief-ness and not a big fan of a lot of the MP maps (too many forge world levels!!!)
Great work from Bungie to conclude their project....

This game took what was a very over done franchise and brought something fresh a special to it. I'll be honest I didnt care for Halo 3, liked ODST but this game really brought back the enjoyment factor for me in a big way that I had been missing with Halo since the second installment. Thank you Bungie!

I never got into the Halo series until I first bought Halo Reach on my Xbox. I was instantly hooked into the game since then. It has great customization system, allowing you to change your armor, emblem, tag, helmet, color, and much more. Multiplayer also has a wide variety of game types, from the simple "team slayer", which is basically a team death match, to completely different things such as "infection", a zombie survival type of game type. There's also a forge mode which allows you to create your own maps. Overall this is a game with a decent single player campaign and EXCELLENT replay value. Expand

If you loved all the other Halo games, there's little I can say to dissuade you from purchasing Bungie's last creation in the Halo series.

Halo: Reach is not a breakthrough, yet it's a clear showcase of Bungie's creative growth. The game is hardly a "must buy" – its single-player campaign is way too short and uneven in quality, while multiplayer has very little room for expansion besides map packs and useless character decorations. But with that said, Reach is worthy of your attention for a couple of evenings.
