Yawn. It's like paying $60 for a map pack. Don't get me wrong, the story is great, but you can only run in circles shooting other players for so long. MW3 has done nothing more than repackage the same game and provide new maps. I am happy to continue the single player story line, but even there, the same same. I don't think I am being overly to critical as I have bought every single title, map pack, and spent countless hours playing the games. I still bought the game, its just that it gets... old. IW needs to take it to the next level and take the MW game engine up a notch. you can reskin a game for only so long before its just gets old. Expand

I just changed my review text (not the score) to reflect that the producers of this game have posted an article pleeding people to give it a 10 on metacritic to raise its score. that is bs.

The campaign was short. Its story was so generic that even a retarded child can make it. The graphics is worse than CoD4. The sounds are just recycled junk from old CoD all guns sounds like a toy gun. Its streak system become from worst to worstser(i know there's no such word). To make it simple. This game is a joke. Its a CoD4 DLC.. And Cod4 is much better. Save your money and buy other games.

Still unbalanced mess with all the perks and killstreaks... remove all of those and the leveling... tight and focused gameplay please... Visuals are really bland and reused from MW2 and the campaign is average at some points.

Horrible game, lackluster multi-player that doesn't feel fresh or fun, short single player campaign and very dated graphics. Not worth the money. Steer clear. Also why must everyone compare this to bf3?

A miserable game like none other. Worst fps game I've ever seen in my entire life! Green oxidized copper all over the screen. Everything is green with the miserable post fx! The previous games in the series were miserable but this one is reaching new lows. Bf3 is 10000 times better than mw3! Do NOT BUY. I repeat DO NOT EVEN GET CLOSE TO IT !

Not sure why I thought this would be not just be the same recycled engine from the last 2 years... Activision must be taking notes from Apple and just releasing products that are "slight" improvements over the previous and charging full price for it.

The mentality that went into creating this game was very flawed. This could easily have been a large patch/map pack release for Modern Warfare 2. There is no innovation in this series any longer. They really don't care about the quality of the game, but rather the quantity of releases. Already they have set a standard for over priced DLC and little effort in yearly releases, which is hurting the gaming industry at large. The game might be fun when you initially play it, but you soon realize it is almost a direct copy and paste of the previous MW games (literally, they've taken the same textures, sounds, EVEN whole buildings from CoD4 and MW2.

At least MW1 to MW2 had a respectable amount of content added. This game is definitely not worth $60 and should have instead been released as $30. Unfortunately Activision has no plans of ever doing that considering people are eating these games yearly. What that little kid at Gamestop and his mother don't understand is the industry, specifically the consumers, are being negatively impacted by this (for the lack of better words) BS of yearly "$60 map packs."

Also, why is this game still using a peer-to-peer form of multiplayer? Instead of hiring Kayne West to CoD XP, they could have easily added dedicated servers and probably saved a million dollars. Thanks, but no thanks, Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward and Activision.

Activision didn't invest any money since CoD 2 to develop new engine (Yes Since CoD 2 its the same engine slightly modified), they managed to improve it up to CoD 4 but then they reached limit of it. Did they bother to develop new one? No. Since that time nothing changed. Same animations of characters, weapons and look of maps. They are trying to blind us through doing stuff like replacing zombies with 2 player co-op, new game mode and few new weapons model, but that's all. If you are going to get that game prepare for disappointment. Activision managed to sink all the way to the bottom of the sea one of the best FPS series in history of video games - Well done! From the king to the street beggar. I think it's time for CoD to retire for couple of years and come up with something new. Single player - stopping WW3 sounds great, you have the same characters (that didn't die) from previous version of MW. Map design is simple - get from point A to point B. Don't worry you won't get lost on the way. Guess why... CoD1 offered several different paths to reach objective and that's what should be restored! I don't care about fancy explosions!

Multiplayer - its just map pack for MW2.

Conclusion? Get different game because this one is worth only half of it's current price...

This game shows how Activision runs every title it can into the ground for money. By the by, if you're looking forward to the DLC map packs in the future, they're already on the disc but they're just going to make you pay to activate them. Squeezing every last ounce of profit from a good franchise, what a disgrace.

I have supported Modern Warfare through its iterations, but this one has really been a letdown. it felt very re-packaged. No new gameplay mechanics and the maps feel small. Also sprinting everywhere is getting old, its not realistic and it feels cheap. IF you make MW4 please, PLEASE don't hype it up and let us down. For the price vs what was delivered: 0/10

Have been playing MW3 online for a few hours now and it surprised me that a game I wasn't looking forward to, at all, still was able to... disappoint me. Well dedicated servers are even laggier than the P2P ones and when you are prone and aiming down the sight at the same time, you can't move sideways at all. Ah well, the game was meant for people that don't aim anyways. Noobtube is the first default class available when you start the online game up for the first time. This game came out in 2007 ... why is it just being reviewed now? I'm surprised it took them 4 years to release a patch that includes: more balanced MP, a big map pack, and faster frame rates. Spec ops is great. The rest is a regurgitation.

The singleplayer story is part of what I loved about the first 2 games, but in this one, they just copy what seemed to be awesome in the other games and hope that it's as effective here. What ends up happening is formulaic levels with absolutely no emotional involvement because you've seen it all before, not only in the previous games, but in the level you just played. The story is garbage and doesn't invest you in the characters like the previous games did. The multiplayer seems like an exact copy/paste except without good maps, class balancing, or meaningful gameplay. It seems as though no real thought was put into this game other than putting as much stuff in it as possible without thinking how it would affect the experience. The maps are small, unorganized, and frustrating to manoeuver compared to the maps in MW2 which had a good layout with strategic points that worked well with all gamemodes. Even after a few hours of playing online trying to force myself to get used to it and enjoy it, I still couldn't seem to like it. I bought this at the midnight launch hoping I would enjoy it as much as MW2 but I was frustrated by the mp right away and then was later disappointed by the sp. I'm trading this in within a week of buying it. Severely disappointed. Expand

CoD has consumed my gaming time for the past few years so I feel comfortable with making the following statements. The number one problem with the state of the Mp is the spawns. Hands down. I have had people spawned right in from of me into MY crosshairs! I have had the same happen to me but the other way around. I have had people spawned 5 feet away from me behind a corner. It's all part of CoD's 'payback' system. It's horrid. The spawn problems are amplified ten fold in objective based gametypes to boot. The maps are a little on the smallish side so this also makes the spawns seem even worse. I like a lot of the maps, I dont mind the smaller sizes, yet the smaller sizes combined with the spawns just make this MP nigh unplayable.

A lot of people will say"You cant sit in a corner with assassin and a silencer noob", I'm a rusher at heart and I run around while I run and gun and STILL get people spawned mere feet away from me. Sometimes they spawn in front of me for a easy kill, and I literally LOL. In that moment it was awesome for me and builds my KS, yet soon enough (mere seconds/mins) it will happen to me. Overall, the MP is indeed fun for the most part, but when 9 out of 10 deaths is from getting shot in the back or the side, it really takes away from the fun.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
