You can easily spray with any weapon and land most of the shots. This series is just losing its tactics and strategy behind it. It's gotten to the point where it feels like quake with modern assault rifles and weak player characters instead. The only draw to this game comes from some new weapons, maps, and a new killstreak system. Which in a way is kind of better but that feature alone doesn't change enough...let alone sell the game. The new maps are also uninspired and don't give you many options flanking. Trust me, after a couple hours the game just starts to feel like the same old stuff. You might as well go back to the first Modern Warfare from '07 if you want a better experience. Remember more does not mean better. Expand

Great game! If you don´t like it, go cry and play this crap called Battlefield 3! (: The singeplayer is short, but way more intense then Battlefield 3. The multiplayer isn't just an 'add-on' like a lot of battlefield fanboys say.. There are so much new things: New weapons (a lot!) , new locations & a lot of new killstreaks. And even a new multiplayer mode! So hell yeah, a 10!

This game is great! Very revamped for the multiplayer with 16 maps to start out with! the spec ops is also really fun I play it with my brother all the time and have a blast. The storyline is great if you know all of the previous modern warffare stories. Great game.

MW3 doesn't break the mold set by the other games in the series, but instead refines and perfects. But hey, if it aint broke don't try and fix it! The franchise has become so popular because of it's slick multiplayer and explosive campaign. I have no problem recommending this game. If you like online mulitplayer, this is more than worth the cost of the game!

    Story didn't make sense
Game play felt overused and dated
Engine is again out of date
    No new on-line mechanics
Where are the advances in technology as shown in Battlefield such as new lighting effects techniques!

The main changes are the new perks and new guns thats all.

It's rare that the third game in a series is the best but MW3 is, in my opinion the best of the CoD MW trilogy. Yes, it's easy to say it's more of the same - on the surface it is, it looks and feels comfortable just like the innovations in FIFA 12 or Forza 4 but look below the surface and you realise this is a game with depth. Yes, it's easy to say it's more of the same - on the surface it is, it looks and feels comfortable just like the innovations in FIFA 12 or Forza 4 but look below the surface and you realise this is a game with depth. Firstly the single player campaign is a cinematic roller coaster ride. The story is worthy of a good action thriller and the action draws you in. If you are a fan of the series I'm sure you will enjoy how the game ties up all the loose ends, as always there is clever use of flashbacks to add story detail. The campaign is one of the few I will replay, it really is that good. Spec Ops adds another dimension, survival mode is frantic and the challenges are well executed. Solo play means you can get to enjoy this mode even if your friends happen to be busy and you don't like the idea of teaming up with the randoms on xbox live. The use of the XP / levelling up system works again well here. Again similar to before but just that little bit better.

Multiplayer is of course where this game really excels. The real innovation here is what I call for the rest of us. If like me you don't dominate the leader boards and are often middle to low on each round scoreboard previous versions of MW could be frustrating. As a result of the previous MW series bias toward only the best player I was always more of a Battlefield fan as there were simply more ways to gain experience than having to be a deadeye marksman. Now with the support packages and kill streaks that carry through deaths there is a chance to level the score. There is also a much greater sense of progression - probably because the playing field has been levelled slightly by the support packages - both in rank terms but also with each weapon and various attachments. If you were one of those who just liked to dominate everyone else in the game you probably don't like it - for the rest of us it's a big improvement.

By sticking to the same success formula with a rip roaring single player story and by levelling the playing field slightly in online MW3 is the best of the series.

hmmm, a game by Activision, the company that fired the CEO's of Infinity Ward. Also the company that re-staffed Infinity Ward to make it's next installment of the Call of Duty franchise, which is what it is for Activision, a way to make money. Don't waste your money on this remake game, go spend it on a game made by a real company that deserves your support.

When you have been gaming for a few decenia like I have this is a very troubling development to observe and I hope it is one that will end soon, however I am fearful the opposite might actually be true and this is just the beginning of an actual movement of marketeers influencing kids into thinking they have but one choice when it comes to a certain type of game. Every big release seems to be positioned opposite a different game of the same genre and even before they have been released a battle of words ensues on the internet as to whose game is better, more advanced or prettier and of course the ever present used-so-often-it-lost-all-its-meaning "fanboy" crops up in every other sentence. What you guys need to realize is that you are not fighting your own battle, you are actively involved in the marketing of a product and are willfully doing the job someone normally gets paid to do. You are not living in world where you need to chose between drinks, books, games, etc. You do not live in an either/or world. You can drink Coke AND Pepsi, you can wear Levis AND Dockers, you can eat Big Macs AND Whoppers, you can read Harry Potter AND War and Peace, watch The Shield AND The Wire, you can play Dark Souls AND Skyrim, CoD AND BF, etc. It is baffling to read 'reviews' on this site and at the same time be 100% certain the persons who wrote them did not play the game they're reviewing for 1 second but are actively repeating the same lines that have been said over and over again for hundreds of such 'reviews' in a row. The actual lines put into their mouths by the "other company" trying to outshine their competitors. I want metacritic to reflect the opinion of people playing a game and providing me with insight into their experience again, just as it used to be. What I do not want is to read hundreds of nerd-rage fuelled marketing stooges supporting one developer or another not being aware that their fueling of the fire is actualy equivelant to putting money in their pockets. Stop it, now! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a massive modern warfare fan and have been looking forward to MW3 since black ops first arrived, however, I am sorely disappointed to say the least, MW3 avatar is slow, and game play seems to be even slower than MW2, I dont believe this is a worth while release and am taking this straight back to gamestation, not only this but I played for 2 hours under double XP reaching level 26 when I logged back on later I was for some unknown reason level 8 ?? I dont think any of the 16 maps are particularly big infinity ward have managed to make them all feel like you are playing a map consistently the size of nuke town (just for reference) I will not be giving this another try, however, I will try the new treyarch title in November next year which I believe is going to be a black ops sequel. Once again I cannot stress how diappointing MW3 is and honestly believe it should be taken off the shelves and given some serious work as MW3 feels like a step backwards towards MW2 rather than a better experience than black ops. One the other hand I have never been a fan of battlefield either but I think there is going to be a big shift in sales towards the Modern warfare rivals come the next installment. I would say well done to infinity ward but you are leaving everyone I know devastated after waiting for so long. Expand

Score for re-selling Call of Duty 4 over and over again. Call of Duty will end up like Tony Hawk, Vigilante 8 or Guitar Hero series. Good work Activision!!! When games are made only just to earn as much money as possible they lose their charm.

The game is just a copy & paste from MW2. They have just added a few weapons and a predictable story to release another Call of Duty and hoard in the money from all the under 14's out there who are willing buy anything will 'Call of Duty' on it. It is a shame that the games market is flooded with Copy & Paste games like this because it really stops the few and true gold games to be successful.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
