The maps are all dozens of narrow passages crisscrossing each other so you are constantly getting shot in the side and back, add to that the new spawning system and it is impossible to play this game with any sort of tactics. You cant clear an area and then feel confident the enemies will be ahead of you they will just spawn behind you and come at you from one of 6 different angles. Activision shouldn't have been greedy and fired the people that made these games good. I wont be buying another COD game until something drastic changes. Expand

Modern Warfare 2, for all its faults, was a great game. A slightly newer, repackaged version of Modern Warfare 2 that arrives several years after its predecessor is, however, not a great game. A slightly newer, repackaged version of Modern Warfare 2 that arrives several years after its predecessor is, however, not a great game. I've never been quite so disappointed with a game whose arrival I anticipated so greatly. Campaign is linear and repetitive; the plot is murky, absurd, and seems as if it was crafted by Michael Bay's evil, slightly less competent twin. Devices that were innovative one-offs in the previous game, like door breaching or crash/explosion cinematics, are overused to the point that it becomes obvious the team that made the game is content with maintaining the status quo. On top of that, the campaign clocked in at less than 4 hours on the regular setting. That wouldn't bother me too much if the multiplayer was rock-solid, though, because that's been the main attraction for the series. That's simply not the case, however. Bullet lag is the worst of any recent game I've played. Weapon balance seems to have been thrown out and replaced with the strategy of "let's make everything as powerful as possible." Maps are amorphous and prohibitive to actual team strategy. Menus are identical, and perhaps even murkier than the previous iteration in the series. New killstreak packages are a nice touch, and perk balancing was an absolute necessity that they thankfully worked out. But when seen as a whole, the greatest new addition is Elite, a glorified stat tracker that costs sixty dollars on top of your existing Live subscription. Given my level of frustration and disappointment with this game, I feel a four is generous. I won't be buying back into the series again, or at least until they give it the inevitable reboot. It's sad to see a company like Activision run a once-proud brand into the ground like this for profits. Expand

If there is a good reason why it is only a 1, it is clear. This game shows how much a company can recycle and hopes for a good sale. No innovation, 3 hours single player. it's a game that lived upon the success of CoD4, except that it has already been done once, MW2.

This feels like a rehash of a game that has been sold under different names, over and over again. A 5 hour campaign, different maps, slightly different guns and perks sounds like DLC to me - however being sold at the full retail value of a new game. No thanks.

This game is everything I was hoping for and more. The campaign is great but the multiplayer is where is truly shines. Not sure what's up with all the negative reviews - this seems really fishy to me - perhaps some disgruntled Battlefield3 fans. Anyways, this game is a must have. Enjoy.

TThis game is terrible it takes absolutely no skill to kill the enemy, the spawning is the worst in the history of FPS, i paid 64.99 to have a alternative to battlefield 3, because I like the run and gun style, but from the outdated graphics, the outdated UI, the countless children, and the complete lack of innovation, this game has become a credit for skyrim...

MW3 its the same than 2006 MW, nothing new. Same engine, online. And the problems online, patches will come out in two years. Yeah as Activision cares for its customers.

The Campaign is short, but the story is still really good. It helps introduce the variable weapon types and game play needed to get players ready for online play. The changes to the online class customization, support options and ladder ranking is really solid. All around great sequel to MW2.

Although there's nothing "groundbreaking" about the multiplayer, it stays true to what makes Call of Duty great. Hundreds of unlocks, weapon personalization, and customizing your soldier's load outs to fit your play style, thus integrating different people into the series, with a greater chance of success. The campaign was (as usual) action-packed, and enjoyable (albeit short).

I picked this up for a midnight release. Truthfully I wasn't expecting anything greatly knew, but man did they just copy and paste this one. I am terribly disappointed in IW and Sledgehammer for this. This is exactly Modern Warfare 1, just a different title. Terrible buy on my part, don't buy this game.

Modern Warfare 2.5. $60 bucks, come get it. You'd think a company this popular would actually spend their money improving the engine and gameplay rather than forking over tons of cash toward the Marketing. Welcome to the new gaming industry, where hype rules over the actual gameplay is worth. Screw innovation, here is your cookie cutter FPS.

This game is flat out awesome. It doesn't mean it's everyones tastes, but if you've loved any COD game, this one is even better. Classes are way more customizable, level design is very fresh and new with way more cover. New game modes are amazing.

After logging approximately 10 hours in multiplayer I have mostly all favorable things to say about MW3. Yes it is a lot like MW2, but that's kind of the point of a series right? I was looking for everything I liked about MW2 but with more content - which I think was aptly delivered. The perks are well balanced, a solid selection of weapons, corrected weapon ranges (no more Uzi kills from across the map), much improved killstreak system, addition of weapon proficiencies, and better selection of equipment. The only negatives I have found are that since 3 of the assault rifles are built off the same platform, many of the weapons look the same (though they perform much differently). Also compared to MW2 many of the maps of MW3 are very cluttered which isn't necessarily a bad thing but will effect your overall style of play. Bottom line: If you like MW2, you will like this game. Anyone who says differently is selling something. Expand

All of you picky nerds giving this game lower than an 8 proves that your expectations were obviously to high for a game that is as predictable as mw3. This game may not be perfect and the call of duty franchise is definitely growing stale, but for what it is it is a great game . Honestly, if it wasn't for the title I would think that I was playing MW2 all over again. Obviously this game is not not worth $60. COD is slowing killing any originality in the gaming industry and this game continues to prove that.

In general it is a good quality game - though basically the same as the previous ones. The biggest problem continues to be the XBOX live play. It suffers from individual connection speed. If you have a top notch internet provider you reign supreme. But for the rest of us it is rather dissatisfying since you are killed even before you see your opponent!

I hold out a lil hope that there will be at least a map pack that includes mw2 maps, which were quite fun to play. I dont know if it is because of the infancy of the game or what but the connection issues are disturbing and really disappointing. Again, MW2 seemed to be so smooth compared to these last two. If this game-play could have been added to the MW2 maps and servers/matchmaking/etc i think it would have been a home run, however we are left a lil disappointed once again. I guess we can hold out hope for maps like Scrapyard, Highrise, Skidrow, Afghan, Sub Base, Terminal, Derail, Karachi...but who knows. Expand

The one positive I've noticed is the gun sounds and feel which have been improved. The kill confirm death match mode is also something new and enjoyable. I'll play this for a while with friends, but unless there are dramatic changes in next years release I'm going to have to pass on buying it for the first time in a long time. The singleplayer story is part of what I loved about the first 2 games, but in this one, they just copy what seemed to be awesome in the other games and hope that it's as effective here. What ends up happening is formulaic levels with absolutely no emotional involvement because you've seen it all before, not only in the previous games, but in the level you just played. The story is garbage and doesn't invest you in the characters like the previous games did. The multiplayer seems like an exact copy/paste except without good maps, class balancing, or meaningful gameplay. It seems as though no real thought was put into this game other than putting as much stuff in it as possible without thinking how it would affect the experience. The maps are small, unorganized, and frustrating to manoeuver compared to the maps in MW2 which had a good layout with strategic points that worked well with all gamemodes. Even after a few hours of playing online trying to force myself to get used to it and enjoy it, I still couldn't seem to like it. I bought this at the midnight launch hoping I would enjoy it as much as MW2 but I was frustrated by the mp right away and then was later disappointed by the sp. Kill Confirm is a great addition and use of the new support mode for kill streaks is great if one has a hard time stacking kills. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
