Modern Warfare 3 fails on nearly every forefront. It is unbelievable to think that something so utterly lazy could have been shat out by the biggest gaming franchise in the history of gaming. It is pitiful, not because little has changed, but because little has been improved upon. Modern Warfare 2 was shaken down by the general public for its lack of inspiration and connection to the gamer, and Modern Warfare 3 is the same old song and dance. Never have I felt more distanced from a developer whilst playing a game, EVER. The developers simply have no interest in making games for those who enjoy playing games. If some semblance of effort was noticeable in this silly-putty mold-your-own game was present, I would be more in favor of it. but it simply isn't. The gunplay is just as lacking as previous, and the campaign is a pitiful excuse to move you around as many "unique" settings as possible. At no point in this game was I engaged: I just sat down, mind rotting, mouth agape.

I had big expectations for this fall: Battlefield 3 and MW3 would be a real clash of the titans, an end-all showdown to the slew of modern war games we have endured in the past decade. I was excited: this was the culmination of millions and millions of dollars' worth of effort, a decade of experience clashing to deliver the ultimate benchmark for the Modern War game. It never came round, though; it turns out that in a combat situation, MW3 croaks on the Battlefield.

Due to the flood of "hot" games coming this season, i decided to rent the new MW to check it out first - despite having previously bought every other entry since MW1. In retrospect this was personally a very wise decision after my experience the last few days. Note i like both the BF series and MW, there justt games and whichever is more fun takes the cake.

The Good - When i first popped this game in and started the campaign i was quite blown away by the visual quality. Lets face it, this game LOOKS good. Just bought my first HDTV at the start of the year and there are few games that really pop with the 120hz.

The Bad - This is where things get tricky. Like 25% into the campaign im completely lost as to whats really going on, i have a good idea of plot but the whole "being pulled into the story" isnt happening one bit. Its been awhile since i played mw2 but i also felt each gun had a little more characteristic. Several times in the campaign i had to check the name of my gun because they look and sound so similar i couldnt tell, if that was just a knob i didnt notice or a completely new AR. This carries into multi as i really cant feel a difference in many AR's as i did before. The M16's 3-round burst speed is atrocious compared to the other titles. And why does the barrett 50 cal semi-auto do just as much damage as a bolt action?? For some reason multiplayer just doesn't have the hook for me like before. It feels very much like the game "Homefront" only modded a little to match MW's style. I have no idea why they choose to put your challenges/ranks in tiny letters up in the top of the screen, it really takes the fun of progressing while playing away. As another reviewer said, they shouldn't have spent wayy to much time putting on the bells and whistles (or new killstreaks and weapon leveling) and focused on improving core gameplay. Everything they added has been an innovation in someone elses game. From the fore mentioned to the new gamemodes (btw enjoy playing kill confirmed WAY to much on ground war since they are trying to get people into it) And last but not least are the hit boxes/lag. Ive never seen as bad of lag on a few of the games i played in any other of there titles. And its just no fun when you run behind a wall and die when you know your safe. Or shoot 5 feet in front of a guy running and kill him. Its just cheesy.

The Spec ops and survival is fun i guess, but many missions are rehashes of the other games and when you just want to get a quick game in, playing with just one other random person can get pretty boring awkward at times.

I dont know how elite is doing, but i cant imagine paying for what essentially should be a "thank you for your support" service and be free or at least muchhh cheaper. The DLC is nice but 1% of the "elite" are going to take all the prizes you can win in tournys and stat tracking is free in other games. Really couldnt be more obvious in showing there intention of milking the cash cow.

In conclusion for me this was and will be a rental game. I just dont see myself investing as much time as in previous titles. Gameplay may look better, but beauty is only skin deep.

This game is just more of the same. I couldn't stand the singleplayer. It's like I had already played everything in there before and they ran out of ideas (shocking right?) and they even took the idea of the no gravity section from Killzone 3. Go buy Uncharted 3 instead of this steaming pile of dog dump.

Haven't gone into spec ops much, but i did a few with my friend last night and my only complain was that most of the first missions (only unlocked the missions through the level 5 ones) had a majority of them with time limits, this angers me because i got 100% of the achievements on mw2 and for the spec ops, the hardest missions to complete on veteran were any of the missions involving juggernauts, followed closely by missions with time limits. Veteran can be made easy if you take it slow, but time limits make it increasingly more difficult

Also, for those complaining innovation, what do you want them to do? Anything that Activision innovates you'll just end up **** about being stupid. We all need to learn to be satisfied with something less than perfect.

This game, as many have stated, does not have the same graphics as Modern Warfare 1. Nor does this game have a predictable storyline. What this game has is a refreshing recovery from Black Ops, which was, to a much lesser extent, very much so ridiculed. This is exactly what the gaming community needs and has needed since the release of Black Ops. The multiplayer, contrary to the statements of many, has completely changed its angles on multiplayer gaming, where there were faults, successes were there to fill in the cracks. What we had from Modern Warfare 2 is still there, but we got more. And what everyone said, how this game is exactly the same as Modern Warfare 2, that is only true in the very shortest of aspects. The multiplayer, redefined, unparalleled at this stage in the development of gaming, has not stopped improving. The new game modes it has added have only just begun to express the possibilities of the extremely well-formed map workings. In the future, the only thing I could expect more would be a greater amount of game modes. The campaign, although a tad bit too familiar at times presents the great feel that we have come to expect from an Infinity Ward game, with every bit of thrill and intensity that has always been there. And the Special Ops, playing as a single player seems to be a bit too difficult to obtain certain goals, but as a team, how the darn thing was meant to be played, has the greatest sense of accomplishment to it, just as we have come to expect. When you finally kill the final enemy, when you get to the final objective, you get this over-powering sense of gratification that will be openly welcomed by the open-minded. In my honest opinion, the only true flaw with this game is the amount of criticism it doesn't deserve. This game does not deserve the terrible reviews it has been getting. I hope my review helps to balance out the negatives, and motivate others to purchase this great addition to the world of gaming. Thank you. Expand

I've yet to find ANY map where I need any long range optics, because there aren't any. This is run and gun BS all day. Even snipers have said F it, and are going with nothing but sub machine guns. Where is the varied sizes of maps found in Black Ops or MW2? What's even worse, is these confined maps do nothing but promote camping. There is no way in hell anyone has played this game, and can disagree with me on that. Go play SeaTown and tell me I'm wrong. I just don't get what IW thought they were putting out. I heard Robert Bowling say how they've changed things up so camping is harder, and how the spawn system would no longer put you in harms way. Well that's just plain **** I understand ALL FPS will have campers and other forms unskilled play, but MW3 is just on another level when it comes to people sitting in corners and waiting for someone, anyone to walk by. Oh, and let's talk grenade launchers. The introduction of the XM25 was supposed to make it harder to spam the launchers, and it kind of has, but you STILL have the under barrel attachment launchers that.....you guessed it.....can spam til your heart's content. I waited in line to get my MW2 Limited Edition Console because I love CoD and I really thought Robert Bowling and Glen Schofield were being honest when they said they listened to the community and fixed our biggest gripes. I guess I was naive in thinking that some big time developers were actually being honest with the people who support their industry. Maybe they did try, but the masses say otherwise. This game has gone on to break records, and with all the BS STILL in this game, controllers will be broken as well. I think I'm done with CoD for this generation. It's gotten stale. I'm not looking for a revolution, I'm looking for some honest to goodness evolution of this franchise and it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon no matter who is at the helm of this famed franchise. I did love the campaign though. Expand

Amazing that people think the low user score is down to BF3 trolls. I bought MW3 for £40 and it is essentially a frickin' map pack. I could forgive the fact they're still using the dated IW engine if this was brimming with new features and innovations, but this is just a shocking effort - go back to the drawing board already.

Looks, sounds, and feels like MW2... didn't bother to re-record any of the sounds or re-design any of the interfaces. They swapped out a few weapons, included new maps, and tweaked killstreak mechanics slightly... but it's largely the same game.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
