I'm mainly giving this bad review to piss off the elitist professional reviewers that are **** about the user score on here.

This score is indicative of gamers being tired of the same old thing.

I'm sticking to COD and returning both of my copies today, and trading them in for Skyrim. What a waste of our hard earned money!

Sorry but activision and IW should not get $60 for this game! This is MW 2.5! A glorified expansion with no creative or innovative improvements. Everything was copied and pasted from a game that came before it. MW was epic and ground breaking but MW3 is about four years old when it came out and def not worth more than a 6.

And that is because this game was developped in a year. Remember Call of Duty 3? That was developped in a year and look how that turned out. The game re-uses the Modern Warfare 2 engine with a glitter on top. The campaign tries to be good with epic moments and a key character's death, but it really doesn't work. I found myself, like with previous Call of Duty titles, pushing myself to play the campaign, rather than wanting to. And, the ending isn't nearly as satisfying as it should be. Then there's Spec Ops, which can be played in co-op, or if you don't know another human, alone. The missions are basically the same as Modern Warfare 2, not too interesting, but still somewhat satisfying to beat. There's also survival which is just a two-player, simplified zombie mode, and really isn't that great. It's not as in-depth as zombies was, and due to only two players, not nearly as exciting. But, of course with any first-person shooter, the main component is multi-player, and while it may be decent, it's surely not worth $60. There's a couple new game modes like Team Defender (TDM, with a grabbable flag that doubles team score) and Kill Confirmed (when a player dies, they drop dog tags, grab these to score points). As with every Call fo Duty title, it tries to reel you in with new guns, perks and killstreaks, making you think it was a $60 well spent. The guns as usual are fairly unbalanced, you have overpowered weapons (like the Type 95, RIOT shield and pretty much any gun with a modded controller) and useless guns (like the M16A4, LMG's and shotguns). There are some cool guns like an air burst grenade launcher, but like the crossbow/ballistic knife (Black Ops) and Javelin , they're just pointless additions in a poor cry for attention. There aren't any new, interesting perks, besides Cold Blooded being split into two perks (which many people complained that it was overpowered in Black Ops). Killstreaks are the only really revamped feature. There are three types of killstreaks now: Assault (Kill-based, helicopters, airstrikes, missiles etc.), Support (UAV's, EMP's, Stealth Bombers etc., this streak doesn't end unless you switch classes) and Specialist (Get a new perk at certain intervals). While Support had the right idea, encouraging players to rush objectives for score as soon as possible, without worrying about dying. This encouraged players to keep moving and help their team as much as possible. However, Assault and Specialist still pose the issue of camping, rewarding players with overpowered items for staying alive is a clear issue, as it's much easier to stay alive while sitting in a corner, then when sitting, exposed, on an objective. Thus, with the inclusion of the Support Strike Package, there is less camping, but it's still an issue with the other Strike Packages, which generally offer better, kill-based, rewards. The multiplayer is still fast-paced, but actually too much so. You still spawn out of your enemies' asses so you can insta-kill knife them in the back, or get knifed yourself. Objectives are still ignored by the majority fo players, who are more interested in stacking killstreaks and maintaining a high KD ratio. And if you're looking for a team-based game, look away. Don't be fooled by the team modes, there is no teamwork required to succeed in this game, and more times then not, rather then being helped by teammates, you're being called a **** and told to kill yourself for "getting in his way". Call of Duty is getting stale, there are hardly any worthwhile additions each year, if you're lookign for a fun game to play with friends, go get Halo: Reach or Battlefield 3. The private matches offer a few new options, but in the end, are less customizable then Black Ops was, and custom games in Halo are still much better, no contest. The game promotes camping, is the same with a new coat of paint as the last entry (every year, not just Mw3) and really isn't any fun anymore. I would love to see a Call of Duty title that took more than a couple years of work, has a lot of new, worthwhile entries and really reworks the entire multiplayer system. Is Modern Warfare 3 worth buying? If you have Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops, there's no reason to spend $60 on this, I learned that the hard way. If you're looking for a new game, go check out Battlefield 3. It has learning curve, but give it a chance, it's much more worthy of your hard-earned money than this rushed, and under-developped expansion pack for a two-year old game. Expand

I will go through each aspect of the game, MW3 is the sequel to MW2 but has been released after black ops as part of the two year cycle, and with its release after black ops one would expect similar improvements on the previous game but MW3 looks almost identical to MW2. For the most part the gameplay is very similar to MW2. In Black ops (multiplayer) we could change in game sound settings, e.g turn game music off, choose type of sound system (headset, 5.1, 2.1 etc...) we never were able to do that with MW2 and its the same with MW3. Why on earth can we not change that? Black ops would allow us to turn the aim assist off (so did world at war), MW2 didnt and neither does MW3, I mean why cant I chose to disable it? I have been a call of duty fan since the first one many years ago and have since loyally purchased every game since, but this is where the line has to be drawn. Many people will not know Infinity Ward had lost many employees during the days of MW2 and since had to merge with another game developer, which was not an issue, but there are real signs of lazy work. Apart from what I have mentioned, there are some buildings which have been directly copied from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 1 and these buildings have had graphical updates. The voice chat quality online is horrible, black ops implemented an update which used the new HD codec provided by Mircosoft (a few months after black ops was released) so why did this update not make it to MW3? Again this is another copy any paste job by the looks of it. Im sure many will remember the hacks in MW2, 10th prestige lobbys, god mode etc...well clan tag hacks are back in MW3 and so are the worse ones (check certain forums). Modders have the exact same hacks running on MW3 which are not yet public but will soon be. I spoke to a casual gamer friend who previously purchased MW2 and black ops, when he first played MW3 his first comment was "Its exactly the same as MW2", he then stated his desire not to purchase the game. Im not a BF3 fanboy, I have a youtube channel with all sorts of games/gameplay and MW3 might be the best selling game of all time but its not worth the money I have paid for it. The only thing I can commend this game in the multiplayer realm is the fact that it is balanced but thats it. There is no innovation, new ideas or even passion when this game was created. The gameplay is good but I persoanlly dont think its worth the investment, I would suggest playing other games that have been released recently like batman, assassins creed, saints row. Those games will provide a decent experience because there will be an underwhelming feeling after playing this, Im already bored of it. I do not troll as I am trying to become a fair games journalist, but the review sites get paid off to give good reviews of games. MW3 deserves a very low score due to the lack of change or improvement but mainly because of the laziness of the developer who has clearly copied and pasted many aspects from previous games. All I can do is enjoy the other games out there and wait for GTA V. Expand

4: Overall without looking at the above 3 points it's a very awesome game: graphics 8, gameplay 9, sound 9, replay value single player 3, replay value multiplayer 8.

The original game was a genre-defining masterpiece, and whilst the second chapter never lived up to that standard, still it was far from a poor game. That being the case it would take something very special indeed to disappoint this time around surely. Sadly, that's exactly what we got, an incredibly disappointing game that bears no relation to the games that have preceded it. It is a pale imitation of the former glories of the Modern Warfare series, a very cheap knock-off. There are three core elements of gameplay;

    1. Single player campaign - this is actually pretty good, and in most ways is actually far superior to the campaign in Modern Warfare 2. Gameplay is varied to a degree, and a satisfying resolution to the story started in CoD4 is provided. 2. Spec-Ops (co-op) - what they'd done here is take the spec-ops missions from Modern Warfare 2 and split it out - half of the game is the traditional spec-ops objective-based missions, the other half, "survival" is a poor attempt at a Modern Warfare equivalent of Treyarch's "zombie mode". I'm afraid it's incredibly dull and loses what little appeal it has very quickly. It's incredibly easy and you'll find yourself getting to round 20 before it even starts to provide a challenge. 3. Multiplayer Campaign - frankly, this is why most people buy these games, and I'm afraid Modern Warfare is a complete and utter mess. If you bought into the hype then it sounded great - no game-ending nuke, no infinite sprint, no infinite noob-tubes via OMA (in fact noob-tubes were even going to be nerfed!), gone was the commando 'death lunge/stab' - it sounded great. Unfortunately, it's all irrelevant. The maps are incredibly mundane with little variety. Judged against their CoD4 and MW2 counterparts they're incredibly poorly designed. That's just the start of the problems - hit detection appears to be way off. Again. You'll find yourself shot around corners far more often than you've ever been before on any of the other CoD games. There's also an extraordinary amount of lag, particularly when you're hosting. Rumours abound of 'lag compensation' which automatically screws whoever is hosting. Whether or not this is true, I don't know. I just know that when I'm hosting, it says I've got a 4 bar connection, yet the lag makes it almost unplayable. In conclusion, after this shambles of a game I can't seriously see myself buying another CoD game. Activision clearly couldn't care less about fans, otherwise they'd never have let fake IW and Sledgehammer games get away with such shoddy testing. Any amount of focused testing should have driven out all of the issues that currently blight the game. The fact that they're in there leads you to wonder if they even bothered to test it at all. A terrible game that barely deserves to be considered a Call of Duty game. Activision should be ashamed that they've hoodwinked so many people into buying what is essentially a broken game.

Until patches start to roll out (hopefully) this game is sub bar. It has unbalanced perks/guns, lag issues, map glitching, horrible matchmaking system and awful maps. Add CoD elite not working 95% of the time to that mix, and you got one big mess in your hands. Only good part in the game is Survival mode in spec ops. Even single player is this time dull and boring.

The music score is average for the gaming industry. Weapon sounds are the worst of the series and contain little to no depth. Sound blending is also poor and could use more options in menus. Voice acting is well done.

    Gameplay
As stated in presentation, the campaign story is not very good, but the environments are varied and detailed. The developers should have taken some cues from the last game of the franchise and removed the action button prompt in cutscenes; it ruins the flow of the game. The multiplayer is well balanced, but contains so many lag related issues it is unplayable competitively. Spec Ops is improved with more missions and survival mode.

I have played the entire camping by now and I got to say it is a medium good just because it's for my taste too short, the use a improve version the same engine used in MW2 so yes, I'm disappointed that they didn't improve the history, I like playing online but this shouldn't be the only reason why they pull this disaster out, the multilayer has improve and I'm giving that to COD, the sound, come on this doesn't sound real at all, a little improvement in that would be nice. But why they don't just launch the game as the older battlefield series without the trouble of camping, so let just finish with this with a small summary:

    Camping 2
    Multilayer 7

Sound 0 just because didn't improve at all.

Is that enough? I don't think so, year after year we hear about how the call of duty series obliterates record after record in sales. This game in one week has profited more than 700 milion dollars, with that much of a profit I think Activision could invest a little more in innovation, making better graphics, bigger maps, adding new variables like ambient distruction or just putting out servers so that we don't lag anymore!
Another trend that started lately is the lack of free space in a map, why put sniper rifles when there isn't a map built for it, I like snipers, if they're good they help a lot and if they're bad are fun to kill, but bit by bit maps are getting smaller and more crowded every year, with fewer lines of fire, making playing as a sniper impossible.
My rating for this game is 3, because with all the profits this game could have been so much more than an expansion of it's predecessors

The maps themselves are brown and boring as usual, I got no joy from playing any of the maps. The weapon level system is an appalling idea, as you may want a certain attachment straight away but it'll take you 12 levels to reach, even though it's almost identical to the one you got at level 2. The campaign leaves a bad taste in my mouth; it might as well be on rails. Every action you take is rigidly fixed by what the game has decided, and if you do anything different you lose the mission. The story is basic and feels like it was imagined by a 12 year old. The only redeeming feature is Special Ops, where there are some genuinely enjoyable missions. The Survival mode is just a better version of the **** Zombies mode from Black Ops, but that isn't to say it isn't fun. Battlefield 3 is much better than this crap, don't even think ONCE about getting this. Expand

Campaign was good, but the multiplayer is disappointing. It doesn't have anything new that will keep me playing this game thought. Some things in multiplayer are fixed, but it is too late now. Many people are already bored playing cod, and i don't understand why someone would still play it. But anyway, this is a decent arcade shooter that fits for everyone.

Modern Warfare 3 seems to be DLC from Modern Warfare 2. Short and boring campaign. Multiplayer = Campers. Antique graphics. Generic sound. I got prestige 10 th. in Modern Warfare 2 but this game is most disappointing one. Modern Warfare 3 is so boring if you played Modern Warfare 2 a lot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I gave it about a month before I wrote a review, and sadly, I'm disappointed. The current set of maps limit the ability to hide and snipe as you were able to in previous games. Lines of sight are limited by buildings, and there aren't many great places to blend into the scenery with a ghillie suit. This forces players to play a more mobile game, favoring spraying bullets over accuracy and patience. For single player, the story was different than what I would have told, but still plays out as an ok action-movie type plot, with nothing particularly special. *SPOILER* The family scene in London offers no emotional gravity. You can see the end coming as soon as the scene starts, and the player is removed from the situation rather than actively involved as in No Russian.

Finally, I use Call of Duty Elite as much as I would use Horse Armor from Oblivion. Except that Horse Armor accurately appeared on the horse whereas Elite incorrectly tracks stats, attributing kills from weapons I've never picked up and miscalculating accuracy on my primary weapons. My disappointment is compounded by the so-called "prizes" offered for the competitions available. Digital Badges aren't prizes, they're unlockables. I paid extra for the chance to win something cool and unique, and instead I essentially get an Achievement.

Hopefully the map-packs will encourage a variety of play-styles, and hopefully Elite will become better utilized.

First off, I am not a Battlefield fanboy, I don't own any BF's so take that out of the equation. I love Halo, I love COD. My main gripe about MW3 is the multiplayer. Seriously. WaW & Black ops are my favourite COD's because of the great map design, balanced weaponry (for the most part), intricate perk variants and customisation. Only Treyarch seemed to get it right.

MW2 was great, I admit I spent weeks on the multiplayer. Good choice of weapons, fun maps, no camper/runner and gunner bias. But look out... Here comes MW3, the next installation to the MW franchise crapped out by the joint works of IW/SG. Of course the hype is going to be skyrocketing. People are going to buy it no matter what. The devs are just jerkin' off now.

What happened here? Where did the simplicity yet fun aspect of the previous COD's go? Overclustered menus, ridiculously small maps with way too many invisible barriers that don't even make sense, still havent fixed the broken perspective problem thats been in every single COD, pasted graphics and the list goes on. This isnt MW3. This is a MW2 DLC. Do yourself a favour and do not buy this game. I'm fed up with it.

For the most part, the CoD series (minus World@War), is the main reason I renew my XBL subscription every year. Sure I played the MW3 campaign, which was ridiculously short, but it was still a semi good campaign. I like how they tied certain events from MW and MW2 into this one. But the main reason I got this game was for the online matchmaking. The very first night / morning (That tuesday around 01:00 Eastern time), I hopped online and stated playing. Something didn't feel quite right. I thought to myself that it was just because I had been playing Black Ops for so long, I had to just get used to it and give it a shot.

Well, as far as online play goes, I have invested 44+ hours of actual game time into this thing called a game and I can say I am very disappointed. I will list the reasons why:

*Maps are just a big cluster **c* with no real structure to them.
*The audio seemed to take a huge step back from MW2.
*Graphics are the same as MW2.
*Not having an in game "combat record" like BlackOps did.(that was so nice)
    *Some obviously overpowered guns
*Heartbeat sensor!.....really? picking up a heartbeat over explosions and gunfire...okay.

    AND THE BIG ONE
*"lag compensation". ------I too am infected with this disease called lag compensation. When hard wired, I see around 63-65Mb/D---9-15Mb/U. There have been so many instances in which I shoot right at a guy, just to die from him and watch the killcam to see no bullets come out from my gun. Hell; sometimes I do not even turn and look at the enemy. I have adjusted port settings, DMZ, QOS, and even running a wireless connection in attempts to fix this on my end to no avail. Running wireless seemed to help a bit, but it was still terrible.

Besides World at War, I have never played a CoD (and a modern warfare at that) game and rage quit as many times as this game. And this all revolves around this "lag compensation". I didn't like World at War online enough to rage quit. Just clearing that up.

Now when I go to my girlfriends house and play on her xbox and ISP (around 7Mb/D---1Mb/U), I run around on what appears to be god mode on speed. On my girlfriends XBOX, I never get killed in those WTF moments where I fire 2 shots from the MK14(2 shots will normally kill when shot in chest) at a guy who is 90 degrees perpendicular to me and completely static just to die from him and see I did not even fire the gun. Several people I know have the same issue.

)(((((()))))The game did have some things I liked, though none of them are the gameplay directly.
*Not having to do stupid things for Pro Perks like BlackOps did
*Killstreak tier system-and the new killstreaks.
*Matchmaking itself. Seems to find lobbies much easier than MW2 did.
    ---Thats about it actually.lol

:::::I loved almost everything about MW2 minus the small matchmaking issues ( losing people in parties esp.) But as far as the gaming itself, I LOVED IT. I only played hardcore and I remember the times I could boot up MW2 and actually have fun whether I was playing solo, with a party, sniping, camping, run-and-gunning. For the most part, I liked all the maps unlike MW3 where I think the is 2 maps I like. In my opinion, they took something decent(MW2), created crap maps and horrible audio, and released this MW2 expansion patch dubbed Modern Warfare3.

I wonder so often how this would have turned out if Sledgehammer had not taken over(Yes I know 'Infinity Ward' still contributed), but this game does not have the Infinity Ward vibe I have become so used to.

Unfortunately, I am still going to play this game only because everyone I know IRL plays it. But unless they fix this "LAG COMPENSATION", I will be trading this game in for Skyrim and I will never buy a CoD game from these guys again. I guess I will convert to Treyarch.

So, just fix that and release a map pack with most of the maps from MW1&2. Because the layout of the maps you have created and most likely the ones coming out in the DLC suck and/or will suck.

I pay too much for a good/high bandwidth ISP, just for you to penalize me and reward those with 56K converter modems. Because that is basically what you have done. The idea sounds good, but does not work at all in pratice.

Respawning drops you into a lot of situations where you get spawn killed. Also the usual "drop you into a match where you are on the losing team and the other team needs 2 kills to win" scenario is still very common. Besides that, it plays so similar to MW2. There are no real changes to multiplayer. Yes they brought back death streaks, but those aren't new, and strike packages are just kill streaks with different rewards. The UI looks pretty much the same and they've actually reused old content. The lack of new or innovative content is pathetic. Survival is OK, I'll admit, but its certainly similar to zombies, but you're limited to 2 people, otherwise it all comes down to personal preference. The multiplayer is also pretty imbalanced. Most of the guns early on pale in comparison to later unlocks, and most shotguns and LMGs are pretty bad, except the last ones you unlock. I won't go into every imba gun, but there are a few and they all take time to get, which sucks. Campaign is OK, if linear, but that's pretty much what all FPS campaigns do nowadays.

To round it up: Multiplayer and PC version is sub-par, the only redeeming factors for the game is the story, if you've followed it or care, and spec ops, which is only really fun with friends.

Cod4 comes out and its simply amazing, the campaign was fantastic story was gripping and the multiplayer was a stand alone feat! then Cod WaW was just getting better! it added a new co-op mode where you could play parts of the campaign online co-op! it had all the same multiplayer with updates to it to make it better for the players, and finally it had Zombies which is one of the biggest things Cod has ever had a series...now this may just be me...but it went downhill from here. Mw2 is released to one of the biggest mass audiences ever, it came out amaizingly well the story was gripping and full of twists and turns. the multiplayer was updated for more arcade and less realistic but funner, you could hop on and feel like you did something, the co-op was gone in zombies and campaign but it was still there for spec-ops where you try to do different things so you can complete objectives but the problem was it was rushed. where cod 4 and waw had had about 4 years to be made mw2 had only 2 years. this ment that there were glitches. lots of glitches. it had overpowered shotguns that kill in 1 hit from 20 feet, the rpgs with the huge 30 foot explosive kill radius, dual glocks with overpowered it was horrendous to all who saw it. people began to turn away from Cod, and this was bad. Blackops. This game added so much to the series. it had its own type no visuals game in it, a updated zombies mode, their was an online where you could challenge people for money to use to buy new items. you had a money system where you didnt have to work to upgrade a gun or rank up to a perk you just buy them and customization was at an all time high. there were about 100 gun camos, emblems were completely customizable, the red dot sights on guns were customizable too! it had an offline mode where you could fight aginist Bots and rank up there, and it added a theater mode where you could watch old games and even a new ability to have 2 people play online from the same xbox/ps3!. it even had a new top down acrade game! now while the graphics were getting only slowly better there were only a few good leaps and mw2/bo had them. even black ops added an new movement ability! you could swan dive around places! it was good fun and it felt like a new game. mw3. let me level with you all i am probably biased about this game but its with good reason. you see how all the other games had updates and added more to the game the thing is mw3 didnt. it changed the multiplayer in only small tweaks, like killstreaks per class now but thats all i can really see. it actually took most customization away like most camos, red dots, and customization for emblems in favor of mw2 style. the graphics had not changed the story was solid but most of them are in cod games, the co-op was only the same spec ops but it had a new ranking system for the new gametype called "survival" which was basically zombies but people had guns. it is fun and changes a lot but not completely original or that fun when multiplayer comes looming about. the multiplayer maps are not diverse, they are more of the same, the guns feel really bad and not realistic, not much updating but enough to show a little something. thats just how the game is and i do not see how it can truly be considered to be a new game. it is merely an expansion pack. thats all i see. if you have any other opinions thats for you but this is how i see the series as a whole. black ops 2 will hopefully save cod. The missions aren't that bad but it's just shoot, get behind cover, go from point A to B, shoot, shoot, cover, done. It's not fun. There's only one good thing about the game and that is the "new" survival mode (which was done before, just instead of soldiers it had zombies) which is actually kind of fun. Do not buy the game unless you're a hardcore Call of Duty fan, and if you are one, shame on you, it's a bad series of games. Expand

I put a good amount of time into the campaign, and enjoyed it, but once I tried the multiplayer it just felt like IW just made this game as a sad attempt to make more money. The graphics were a step down from Black Ops and MW2, the guns all felt the same and sounded like they were being shot out of a toilet, the maps all made me feel like puking, and the game types all seem the same.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a direct question to Infinity Ward: why are you guys, the original creators, trying to kill your own creation? Is this some kind of subliminal message to the community saying "Please help us, Activision won't let us make a different game" or something? It's funny, CoD4 is one of my favorite games on the X360 and MW2 was a let down on some levels but overall a good game. Now MW3; the game in which everyone was awaiting the conclusion to the story. And how was the story? Well it made the story of MW2 much better. Seriously, this was a dissapointment to me because I always thought that Infinity Ward always focussed on the structure in their plot lines and to see this is like seeing someone flip you off then that someone shoving their middle finger into your face. What I found really anoying was the major plot holes throughout the story. The biggest one is when you play as one of the Russian President's body guards. First, how are armed terrorists able to sneak into a plane that's filled top to bottom with secret service people? Isn't their job before every take off to completly search the entire plane for any threats? Second, where did the escort fighter jets go when things went t**s up? There are many more that would anger me even more. After completing the let down of a story, I went off to play Spec Ops. This was one of my favorite additions to MW2 and I was overjoyed to see it's return. The missions are fun and challenging and are more fun to play with a friend. However, some idiot at IW decided to add in Survival, which is their response to Treyarc's Zombies. Let me list the things that made zombies so popular. Black Ops's (and WaW's) zombies mode required team work and the ability to communicate with each other. You also have to worry about your points weather to upgrade or buy a gun. Survival is NONE OF THESE THINGS! Here's how you ALWAYS beat the goal. First, you and your buddy knife and steel the enemy's guns. Next, find a corner and surround yourself with sentrys, claymores, and C4. Finally, buy an LMG and keep refilling ammo. That's it. There is nothing really thrilling about this mode. What I thought was just lazy is that the multiplayer maps are the survival maps. No effort in making creative, interesting maps. And finally the multiplayer. This is just a cluster f***. The menu took me forever to get a hang of and once I did start playing, I realized a major problem. See, in my eyes, if a game gives me the ability to use a sniper, I should have the ability to use the sniper like a real life sniper would. So why on earth are ALL THE MAPS CLOSE QUARTER?! There is so much s*** in the way and there is no such thing as a big map. They're all small and the size of Favela from MW2 and then thrown in a bunch of cars to block your path. But the biggest dissapointment out of everything in multiplayer or even the game is the gold camo. In previous games, you had to work like crazy to earn gold on just one gun. But thanks to MW3, you can earn a gold camo for one of your guns in just 6 HOURS! So what is supposed to be an achievement turns out to be a usless pile of junk. This is not Call of Duty, not even slightly. What this is is a very sad display of when a developer wants to move on to something else but just can't at all. If you buy this, it's just a waste of money. I personally think that Treyarc should have all of the rights to the Call of Duty name since so far, their CoD games look, play, and feel better than Infinity Ward's CoDs. If you want a shooter which does have tons of replay value, get Battlefield 3. End of story. Expand

The game is pretty fun, obviously since it's an action movie on steroids, and the game is good, but of course it is. It was released twice, the biggest problem is it is a copy of number 2, if this wasn't the case it would have a higher rating. pros: Gameplay is still pretty fun, Makarov's death is just so satisfying when it happens, graphics are done well, sound design is flawless it sounds like what a war game should
cons: the intro movie is awful, new players will be confused and would probably need to play modern warfare 2 (which i recommend you would get that instead of this) bullets flying through cover, the game is too easy I got hit by an RPG and lived ON VETERAN DIFFICULTY, Yuri's death feels like a cheap excuse to kill a russian at the last minute rather then a sacrifice to save Price. Enemy Ai is either the worst i have ever seen or the best I have ever seen (and not in a good way its like they have a supercomputer that comes up with 1000 ways to effectively defeat you) as for the bad AI lets just say enemy's have had guns in my face and just stared until i get bored waiting for them to shoot and just killed them. Soaps death doesn't have the impact it should and it felt to sterotypical. it is so linear, horde mode instead of zombies
So there you go a bunch of reasons not to buy mw3 if you really need to know the ending just watch it on youtube. If you ever buy a COD game you would be better off with black ops, black ops 2 modern warfare 2 or even wait and see if Cod ghosts brings some cool new features along with dogs and fish. for all the fanboys probably raging at me you should know I dont hate call of duty just this

The very few new things brought to the table in this game are not worth the purchase. Hopefully the DLC they release will contain new weapons, new game modes (even old game modes would be nice, where the hell is my favorite mode hardcore headquarters??) but for the most part this game is just another stark example of the industry milking a franchise to death without innovating anything. It's obvious CoD has become the next Madden franchise, and i'd imagine that had a lot to do with why Infinity Ward developers all resigned in protest. Looking forward to whatever game those Infinity Ward guys end up making on their own. This will be the last CoD game I ever purchase. Expand

I seriously don't get all the good critic reviews, I'm not a fanboy for any other FPS franchise (such as Half-Life or Battlefield), but this game is BAD. I swear to god, if they make another Modern Warfare game I'll see no hope for the future of the FPS. Expand

New year, same old MW3. Nothing changes in this game, yet people still buy what essentially is the same game with some small improvements every year. Really, Battlefield 3 is better than this and I would say I don't like both of those games. There are more intelligent games out there to play. Get off of the MW roller coaster of five hour campaigns and mindless multiplayer.....

MW3 does absolutely nothing to the FPS genre. Like what saltychipmunk said, sequels mean innovation. As far as innovation goes, this game is the pits. In fact, it is pretty much the same as MW2, (since I played it with a few buddies once), just with new guns and maps and perks. It would've been fine as DLC, but as a full-retail game, not so much.

The single player game is fun for 6 hours. Then it went back to the rental people. I'm glad I didn't buy it, it's like when I buy junk food once a year. OK for a short time, but then leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
The multiplayer is knackered. Bad hit detection, too easy on noobs, no innovation. This has turned into a cash cow and the devs don't care about the consumers. Simple as that

AND NEVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT YOU FINISHED A GAME SO FAST BECAUSE YOU NEED TO SET THE DIFFICULTY HIGHER, A GOOD SOLID CAMPAIGN IS JUST THAT.. ONE WHICH CAN NOT BE BEATEN IN 4 HOUR S EVEN IF SET ON BABY EASY DIFFICULTY, THATS A COP OUT FOR NO/LITTLE CONTENT.. SETTING IT HIGHER JUST MEANS YOU DIE MORE, REPLAY SAME SCENES MORE HENCE "LONGER CAMPAIGN.. THIS GOES 4 ALL GAMES.

BEAT THIS IN 5 HOURS NORMAL SETTING
BUT THE GAME IS DESIGNED FOR ITS MULTIPLAYER, ONE WHICH HAS GROWN TO BE VERY STALE AFTER YEARS OF NOTHING NEW, EXCEPT FOR MY BANK ACCOUNT.. SO FREAKIN TIRED OF THIS.

I've been playing COD multiplayer ever since they changed the game with COD4 MW. I then played MW2, Black Ops, and MW3 now. Unless their new maps coming through DLC are a lot better than the ones they've included on disc, then this game has problems with me. Not to mention there's no real worthwhile changes to discuss. The new killstreak system isn't that drastic a change, and doesn't do much to change the game. It only slightly adjusts the individual users experience with the game. I hate to say it, but Black Ops was the better game for many reasons including: Better maps, better modes, and an overall fresher take on the series. If anyone out there needs to know what shooter to pick up this holiday season, then my honest answer is Battlefield 3. They delivered a smart, and deeply rewarding multiplayer component this year that improves over its predecessors in every way. It's also worth mentioning that the community behind BF3 is much more mature and tolerable on the whole when compared to the 'typical' **** hole COD player. I'm giving it a 2 because the survival mode is entertaining. Of course, we've all played horde modes before, and that modes fun will not last forever. At the end of the day, this game just didn't try hard enough. The teams responsible were spread too thin, and in my opinion, they rushed the product out for holiday release and wasted the potential it could have been with more time and thought. Expand

This game was a huge let down compared. The first reason I say this is because, even though the guns have never really had any "weight" behind them, I still felt I was shooting a gun and thought this was specifically well done in WAW however in MW3 especially with some of the guns it just feels as though you are clicking a button to kill someone completely killing the immersion and enjoyment out of a kill.

Also every single year the cod franchise tries to add new things to spice up the same formula much like pop music instead of tinkering with the core gameplay itself being afraid they'll mess it up. This time they added gun proficiencies and altered the perks and a few other minor things. Now its almost like there are too many variables for the developers to be able to alter so leads the game to be unbalanced as there are so many combinations. This makes for a frustrating multiplayer for serious players and casuals alike. Third of all the games are quicker online, you die more quickly kills are racked up faster. Im fine with that concept but not how it has been introduced. Firstly when Im playing I feel way more sluggish, Im guessing this is to compensate for millitary realism but in all honesty you don't play cod to feel like a guy in afghanistahn you play because you want to feel like a bad ass soldier out of an action movie shooting guys in the face. I feel so slow and so much less smooth compared to mw2 its like im being left out of the game and I feel that Im just a bystander to the game itself.

The maps are awful generic pieces of crap in all honesty. They have become smaller and smaller throughout the call of dutys due to design laziness and to create combat realistic situations which once again we don't care about if the game isn't fair or fun. There is no safe way to get from one of a map to the other even though they are so small as they are ridiculously open leading to camping being the tactic low level players use as they find it impossible to beat higher level players.

The gameplay and the shooting itself hasn't changed, quickscoping which I enjoyed and thought did take some skill (IMO) has been altered however Im on the fence of whether this is a bad thing or a good thing as snipers were OP in MW2.

The campaign is a hollow corridor shooter which puts you in the same situation in every mission with a different cinematic and new textures. The only way you can use the environment is explosive barrels and you are breadcrumb lead through the missions by your commanding officer whoever that may be. Overall this game is a big lousy corporate sell out which should of been much more innovative and brave in its design. Greed has gotten the better of the franchise to a point where it provokes no feeling when playing the game, its literally like standing in my house doing nothing to me.

2/10 - a ruined franchise for no good reason.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
