With all of the maps being SO CLOSE QUARTERS, i know this game will turn into just people using SMGs. the precision guns like the M16 are worthless, all you need to do is spray. No innovation, all confusion. i am not a fan, this is the year to skip out on the COD franchise much like a bad madden game, its cheaper to just wait for the next. unfortunately i traded BO and MW2 in towards this... SO glad i didnt get elite membership though!

Same game. I would have given this game a "1" rating, but honestly. the Online is NOT as broken as MW2.. therefore Activision managed to get something fixed.

    +2 for some balancing
-7 for same engine as CoD4
-1000 dignity for every Activision team member who worked on CoD4, then proceeded to make terrible games thereafter. Just stop. CoD 4 is still better than MW3, that was 4 years ago.

It's MW2 with worse graphics, smaller/crappier maps, and the speed turned up a few notches. For little kids hopped up on mountain dew to run around and die (with no respawn timer) while screaming profanities. It sucks.

My instinct was to give this game a 5- It defines "mediocre". It is not bad by any stretch. No, rather it is tired. It looks like MW2 and plays like MW2, which could have been forgiven if it was written like MW1. It wasn't. Expectation games are dangerous if your product doesn't come up to snuff, and so I'm giving it a 3.

Things I like- just like MW2 the production values are fine.

Things I like- just like MW2 the production values are fine. The single player campaign is over-the-top Michael-Bay-esque, and when it runs out of compelling story it uses swelling music or slo-vision chaos to give the appearance of emotional depth.

Things I don't like- paying $60 for the same thing I purchased a few years ago. The technology is the same, the gameplay is the same, the environments are different and yet feel the same. It feels like a lazy installment of the series, hyped in order to make money rather than create a worthy successor to this landmark series.

I've come to terms with this game for what it is. an absolutely mindless arcade shooter that has no meat whatsoever. Activision doesn't bother to make a new game engine. It continually copies the same game year in and year out. I'm tired of spending 60 bucks for a carbon copy of a game I played last year. I said to myself I would never buy a COD game again after Black ops. I'm tired of being fooled by activision. I DID play this game at my friends house. A lot of my friends are still under Activisions spell. They don't realize they are getting ripped off. The game is essentially the same as Modern Warfare 2. The campaign is the same, and so is the MP. The survival mode is new, but nothing special. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP BUYING COD GAMES SO ACTIVISION WILL MAKE A NEW GAME ENGINE!!!!

If people keep buying COD games that reuse the same engine, Activision will keep making a carbon copies of their games. We need to send Activision a message and teach them a lesson that we won't fall for their money hungry tactics anymore. From this moment forward, promise yourself that you wont:

Buy a Carbon copy of a COD game. DON"T BUY NEXT years COD!!

You wont pay 15 dollars for four maps

You won't wait online at midnight to buy a rehashed game

The list can go on and on.. but the bottom line is, Activision will keep using their customers if they keep buying this crap. Stand up and don't take it anymore. As gamers, we deserve better. Activision hasn't changed their engine since 2007. Thats complete garbage.

Multiplayer plays the same as ever, and at least for me, is probably why the game already begins to feel dull after only ten hours of online play. It's the same reason I don't buy Madden year after year - I'd rather wait until a major change or innovation comes along to turn things fresh again.

For that reason alone, I most likely will find myself finishing off the last few hours of the campaign, and shelving it for the time being.

They haven't done a single thing to innovate the franchise in years. This franchise has become nothing more than a shameless yearly cash-grab on the behalf of the developers. I won't even get into the CoD elite service which offers nothing gamers haven't seen with games like Halo and Battlefield. At least those two examples don't charge you. The fact that the DLC for this series has become known for overpriced and underwhelming extras has added to my disenfranchisement with the whole series. Plus the fact that game like Deus Ex has released DLC that is longer than the campaign of MW3 is laughable. Activision needs to put this series to bed for a while until they can come up with something substantial to offer the gaming community. Expand

I gave the game a low score for a few reasons. I feel that because the damage is so beefed up that the game now doesn't rely on tactics and strategy as it is too strongly now based on reaction time and latency, this issue punishes those of us that don't have super low pings. Tied to the first issue, because the game is so fast my friends who havn't played as much CoD and don't react completely on instinct (there isn't any time to consciously think about your actions) do not enjoy playing the game (so much for 'anyone can pick up and play") which makes it more difficult for me to enjoy. Another issue is team play. IW and SH keep coming up with ways to reward the individual for objective play under the guise that they are promoting "team play". If you want tips on how to promote team play you need only look at BF3. Because the game is so fast now there is no reason to call out to a friend about enemy locations because by the time they are able to react the same enemy has cleared out the room before you could finish the sentence. As far as map design an sniping is concerned... There are very few places you can legitimately snipe. The maps are so tiny that it only lends itself to quick scoping, by and large alienating people who want to kick back, take it a little slower and snipe from range. like normal snipers.

In my honest opinion. the game needs to be slowed down by reducing damage in general to be somewhere between black ops and MW2.

There is a reason the user score is so low IW/SH. These are only some of my concerns from my experience. I just hope they are listening.

I would have liked the campaign to have been longer, the story was good but the campaign was just way to short.

The multiplayer is where I the game disappointed me the most, and that's saying something from the already low expectations I had. Spawns are ridiculous in the game, after playing the multiplayer for a few hours, it astonishes me how often I kill someone to have them spawn behind me, or how often I spawn in an enemies path. The maps are all tiny full of winding corridors and very little open space. The guns respond terribly, and they all behave similarly (i.e. fire rate and stopping power). Kills come extremely easy, both ways, and take very little skill. Have had a few problems with lag so far, and it's not on my end, it's not that bad yet, but knowing the previous titles it will get worse with time. To me the multiplayer is just a chaotic mess, more akin to Halo than the COD titles I used to love playing. I give this a 3, because that's how many hours the campaign kept me entertained.

The maps, oh the maps..., are the exact same thing I've seen in MW for a while now. Each one is just laid out different and with different textures. Actually trying to use knowledge of the map to your advantage fails horribly because by the time you try to circle around any enemy they are either gone or already killed by the fast paced nature of things.

The list of game modes available, while impressive, still lack ways to differentiate from each one, mostly due to the lack of map uniqueness.

The only thing that saves it for me is the single player campaign.

CoD has offered a very specific flavor of multiplayer that I have enjoyed, but this iteration actually felt off, not quite as good as MW2 or Black Ops. More importantly, the maps for multiplayer, are bland, mostly too hectic and feel ugly. I haven't found a single map that I have enjoyed greatly. That is not a good start. Even remade maps would have served better. The Single player so far is boring, disjointed, and already I feel disconnected from the characters I love, Soap and Price. They don't have the same flavor, and the (SPOILER) guy meant to protect the Russian president being shot by Makarov..... that felt rehashed and boring, I'm not sure I will even bother finishing single player. Survival has been enjoyable, but its just like another form of zombies, good but in the end nothing unique at all. In the end Ill play it, probably more then it would seemed based on my review, a little hypocritical I know. However, I already know now that BF3 for me has taken over the joy that I once held for the CoD series. Let's be honest though a good majority of people purchase this game for the multiplayer. Being that MW3 used the same engine and nearly all the same people worked on the game I expected it to be similar to MW2 for the most part. Maybe a MW2.5 even, and I was ok with that because the maps and the game play were really solid. You had a good mix of maps, meaning that the cartography of the maps were balanced in what you could do. If you liked run and gun you could play that style. If you liked to snipe, the map layouts on some maps were brilliant for that but they did include areas that you could run and gun. One map like this would be Fuel in MW2...minus the rock you could hide in obviously. Fast forward to today and as someone that enjoyed sniping, I feel that the cartography of the maps in MW3 are so boxy and corridor like that the only style of play style that is effective is run and gun. The elevation difference in the maps just doesn't seem to be that of the MW2 map Estate or in MW Creek. I'm not saying there needs to be open maps like MW2 Wasteland but maps like Fuel, Creek, Estate, High Rise, Afghan, Derail, Rundown and Underpass would be nice to have in the multiplayer. I feel like those maps had more of an organic feel to them and there were wide open areas and some not so open areas so you could snipe if you wanted but you could also run and gun. This lack of elevation change makes a lot of the multiplayer maps seem like the same thing over and over again just difference scenery. Out of the current set of maps there isn't one that I feel has that, oh this is going to be a classic map down the road and that isn't good from a multiplayer standpoint. Hopefully with DLC they can go back to the drawing board and rethink their cartography to give the maps a bit more of what they did in past games. Expand

If you are a COD fan, stick to Black Ops - its far superior, or even Modern Warfare 2. The gameplay is not fluid and there is no real since of "flow" to the action. Enemies commonly spawn right next to you. Maps are extra small and none of them really stick out as being memorable.

The online part of it is just the same as the previous except with what appears to be smaller sized maps. If you want just rent the game and beat the campaign. If your looking for online play just play any of the other copies that were released previously or just find another series.

Not as bad as the yearly updates of the Madden franchise, but bad nonetheless. This is basically MW2 but with its gameplay refined. The campaign is roughly 6 hours with mind-numbing action that will make Bad Boys II look dull. The online experience is the same as every year with a bunch a kids running around shooting each other. New year, same COD.

Only one mission of the lot caught my full attention and makes up for the entire story in my opinion. It took me the worst part of 7 hours to complete this game on veteran (a new personal best on any games highest difficulty). Was very disappointing.
Multiplayer mode is where CoD games shine or die for me and sadly, this one died as soon as I saw my video of multiplayer. It looks like an exact clone of its predecessor MW2. With a few new game modes and weapon tweaks, it does not change the game style at all. The tactics and abilities of almost every CoD player are the same on some very badly designed maps. With the range of maps given on this game, you would think that a half decent one would have made its way onto the game but sadly, it has not. A very poor Multiplayer experience to veterans and newbies alike.
Spec Ops is only the real decent part of this game and is where 2/3 of my points come from. A complete recreation of the MW2 co-op missions and some new and "creative" (risky word) challenges which tests the players tactics, reactions and teamwork even on the easiest setting.

Although this game will surely be up for the biggest (not best) game of the year, it has still left me with nothing but negative thoughts about the CoD franchise. A very poorly designed game.

This game is couple of new maps, guns, and modes, that could've been released as an expansion pack. We as a consumer are entitled to more than just mindless shooters that feel like your hand is being held the whole way through. The only good thing about this game is the Spec Ops portion of it. I don't have much to say that I haven't said already. This will be the last COD purchase I make until Infinity Ward decides to build MW, or any COD from the ground up. It's nice to see 60fps but at the same time its hard to put up with textures that are last gen in hi resolution. If you have played MW before and MW2 and are expecting something different then don't be surprised when you pop this game in and say to yourself, "haven't I done this before"? THE ONLY REASON I AM GIVING THIS A 3 IS BECAUSE as a sequel, it is deffinitely a rinse lather repeat for the devs (you wonder why they didnt just release it a month after Black Ops because it doesnt even seem like they did much work...)

THE GOOD... there are a few nice adjustments since the last installment of the series. MUCH MUCH MUCH better hit detection. It no longer takes an entire magazine of ammunition to kill your enemies. No more instantkill nube-tubing (the 'nube tube' or grenade launcher is still in, just fixed so it almost never gets an instant kill). Much less lag from any other of the COD installments (I have been playing up to level 30 and have not seen a bit of lag yet. Occasionally, but nothing gamebreaking). The graphics have been polished a decent bit (You can see the sunlight reflect off of the dark gun metal in front of you, and the nice simple details of the environment around you are almost nice enough to make you stop and smell the roses once in awhile). They now offer a wider ability of items and killstreaks SPECIFIC to helping your team-mates and playing the obective rather than just being a lone wolf. What is also pretty cool is they have a whole other killstreak set for those who are really good at lone-wolfing. Instead of killstreaks, you get more and more perks, giving you six perks and a major advantage for one on one combat.

Thats a lot of cool stuff, but thats about it. Heres where the game loses its luster...

THE BAD... For those that have already experienced the COD series, you'll be a little disappointed. Not a lot has changed. In fact, its almost like playing a new map pack on MW2. Not even an exaggeration. If I were to put MW2 in your console and right as a match were about to start, tell you it was MW3, it might actually take you a few minutes to realize it was just MW2. It takes forever to unlock anything decent (I was using the pre-set classes they give you up until level 30 because nothing else I had could compare). Not only that, but you dont even look forward to unlocking anything (except perks of course) because the weapon selection is just so bland. There is little to no customization (hardcore Black Ops players, sorry) and I've tried to log on to ELITE only to get booted off or rerouted back to the game.

You are at the mercy of lag, whom ever is the host has the advantage. Also with the p2p games it just feels like I am spending more time in game lobbies waiting for players to join than in game and when in game you get the always annoying mitigating host message. MW2 was my first console FPS, and I fell in love with it. After a while though, the online play became more stressful than fun. Quickscoping, One-Man-Army and Marathon/Commando made it feel like I was being punished for wanting to enjoy myself. A year later Black Ops arrived...I was still playing it until the night I purchased MW3. My only issue with Black Ops was the gun imbalance (Famas/Aug/AK74u) and hit random detection, otherwise a fantastic multiplayer game. So here I am with MW3. Unlike BOPS, I'm already getting tired of it... for the wrong reasons. What everyone has said is true, it is MW2 with a couple new perks/weps/maps. ISSUE 1: The largest problem with the game, IMO is the spawn system in relation to the maps.
The maps are much smaller than MW2/BOPS, and there are multiple ways to travel to a location (great for anti-campers) but this to me is its largest downfall. All the maps have so many turns, routes and drops that when you spawn there is almost an enemy near you at all times. Going for that Assault killstreak? Too bad, someone from the other team just spawned 10 yards behind you, literally as your back is to them. ISSUE 2: The number of levels to progress through is way to high. Why do I need to level up 60-74 levels just to unlock my favorite gun? Oh, there is a Prestige shop for that! Once you prestige, you get a token to â

It's also even easier now to pin your opponents in their spawn. How random is the spawning when your are already in their sights, spawned around the corner from where you just died, or spawning an enemy directly behind you within 5 seconds of running out of the spawn?

Just very poor map design in general. Makes Multiplayer not even fun. The leveling system, weapon upgrades, and perks are stupid. This is coming from someone who was borderline addicted to BO multiplayer. I am done with MW3 multi. I wll finish the campaign just to see what happen, and mess around with spec ops a little bit. Definitely a 9 if you liked MW2 because not much has changed. It's a map pack or expansion pack in my opinion and the only need for this hype was most likely to beef up the bottom line.

This game is nothing different from years gone by. Had a go and noticed nothing had changed apart from the graphics have been tweaked a bit more. But still millions of under 18's will have a lot of fun playing. I seem to know of more kids playing this game than adults, is it just me that has noticed this??

Unfortunately the multiplayer experience is destroyed due to the horrible lag created by the lag compensation. After about 15 hours played online it is obvious that the game artificially introduces lag (sometimes up to .5-1 second) to "even" the playing field with those who do not have good connections. This typically results in many wtf moments when engaging into 1v1 gun battles (which the developers repeatedly said would be the focus of the game) where you see the person first and start shooting first but you appear to die from 1 bullet from the other player. Watching the kill cam shows a different story. The other player sees you first and starts emptying most of their magazine into you, clearly more then the 1 bullet that was shown earlier. Multiplayer is unplayable with these problems. These issues were in other CoDs however I have never experienced it as bad as now. If you want to run 'n gun look elsewhere.

The maps are terrible. Tight corridors with numerous corners and overlooking windows lead to excessive camping. All the clutter in the environment is too easily abused for cover where what looks like the tip of someones head above an object is shown to be the barrell of their gun in the kill cam after they kill you. Additionally the spawns are terrible. Enemies spawn on top of you, in you, to the side of you, etc. The same happens when you spawn. It is not uncommon to spawn and take a couple steps and get killed. There is no logic to the spawn locations which seem to be random in nature. The developers stated numerous times that they wanted a fast paced game. If by fast paced they meant chaotic and illogical they succeeded.

Gun damage is inconsistent, likely due to the terrible network compensation. One kill may take 3 bullets the next may take 6. Assault rifles are by far the best weapons in the game dominating the close, mid, and long range. A majority of the iron sights are ridiculus. For example the G36C iron sight covers up nearly 1/3 of the screen while ADS forcing the use of red dot sights. Perk selection has changed little since Modern Warfare 2.

The only gameplay improvements I can see over Modern Warfare 2 are less power and prevailent noob tubes and air support has been toned down slightly.

Single player experience is average. Your "buddies" are dumber then ever just standing around waiting for you to do all the work generally ignoring enemies that are right next to them. I watched many of the developer videos on YouTube and the IGN exclusives. It is clear that many of the pstatements made (gun vs. gun, 3-5 hot spots per map, better spawns, etc.) were not true. I spent $100 on the Hardend Edition and it was a rip off. Call of Duty Elite (included with it) doesn't work reliably and offers less features then what was included with Black Ops combat record! To make it worse, Elite isn't even integrated into the game! You have to exist Modern Warfare 3 to view the more "detailed" stats.

So yea, lots of complaints. Very dissappointed.

It's been said many times and I'll repeat it, MW3 is the same as the last one. This game has almost no innovation and is part of the problem with modern video games and the video game industry as a whole. This was nothing but a cash grab and it does not even deserve a rental, giving this game a 3 is generous on my part.

However the problems with multiplayer are still there, yes it's still a fast paced shooter but that's mainly due to the close quarters maps which only require players to use smgs to dominate. I also found that the game can lean to much towards camping at times with too much focus on players getting kill streaks even with the new kill reward system. As for the campaign it continues from where it left off in MW2 in medias res, i feel that this is a little bit of a let down as new players unlike myself my not know the story. The AI system returns although against such titles as gears of war 3 and uncharted 3 it feels a little bit too cheap with the AI relying on using grenades to kill you and feels a bit robotic. As for the level designs they remind me a bit of gears of war 1 with many of the level involving moving down a street, stopping to kill some people in front moving to the next group with no real player ability needed to beat the game. Unless of the grenade spam difficulty (veteran). The new survival mode is good fun though much better in my opinion than the rather dated zombies, this mode can be a blast with a friend although hampered by the AI again. To conclude this game is feeling a bit dated and has less new content than Halo: ODST, think of it not a a new game but as an expansion pack like the change from fifa 11 to 12 or madden 11 to 12. Nothing new, but nothing truly broken from year to year. If you are going to buy this game then I suggest that you buy it second hand save your self some cash and wait for the patches to roll out. I was really expecting this game to be at the very least better than Black Ops. It's not. In every aspect of the gameplay it isn't even close to COD4 or MW2. COD4 set the bar extremely high and maybe people tend to expect something as gamebreaking and epic as that. And though MW2 has it's share of mods/hacks, etc, IMO there is no better multi-player interface than MW2. The sound, realism and the maps are very diverse. As far as the MW3 campaign, it lacks depth and innovation and tells a story that is similar to the previous titles in the series. Step outside the box. Look at Batman: Arkham City. Now THAT is how your follow up one of the best games for the 360 with a sequel. As far as the multiplayer.....I logged in over 10k team deaths in MW2 and had a k/d over 2.00, played maybe 100 or so in black ops because it really seemed like an Atari interface. This multiplayer has the same feel as black ops, so if you liked that MP then you'll like this. It's very micky mouse in a way. Seems more like a kids game then an epic online MP. There is really no "tactic" per say in this multiplayer. Everyone seems to use a rush loadout. The maps are very linear. I'm finding that I unload almost a full clip into someone and he shoots me once and I'm dead. WTF? Or, the guy sees me and I'm instantly dead with no chance to react. I realize that lag or connection speed can be an issue but thought that dedicated servers would solve the problem. Sledgehammer did a horrible job IMO with the whole MP interface, maps, visuals and sound. Where is the "old guard" at IW.......ohhh yeah it's Respawn. Really can't wait for their first shooter and maybe this franchise will be a thing of the past. I hope I'm wrong because I've really enjoyed it over the years. I just won't buy another COD game unless the reviews are clearly a newly created renaissance that brings us back to the glory days of this series.

To be honest......I'm going back to COD4 and MW2 MP. The last two games make me feel as if this franchise hit its peak long ago. One thing is for sure.........we are the consumers have been sucked into the series and the only people are benefiting from it are the pub's and dev's in record sales, meanwhile we're stuck with a nice door stop of a game.

So $60.00 and the story is over in one sitting. Sure there is multiplayer (and it's more of the same great MW action we all love) but thats what it is more of the same. 16 new maps, some new stuff that helps players that are not super hardcore get there streak stuff in. A new system that levels up each weapon as you use it. and a handful of other changes that overall don't make a difference from the core game play. But (at least on 360) if you are new to the series I recommend just staying away from the online component altogether. Everyone playing seems to already have the best weapons and accessories and they are already experts. Each time I spawned It was no mach. One on one there weapons were just to powerful. The team stuff was a little bit better but unless your going to pour hours and hours into the steap online learning curve your better off just sticking to the single player. I have repeatedly watched myself kill another player, they spawn, and then they kill me, all in the time allotted in a kill-cam. The spawn-delay should be incorporate into all core game modes or completely revamp the spawning system like Brink or Battlefield 3.

    2. Inconsistency: You can kill somebody with 4 shots or less to the chest or waistline with almost any weapon, sometimes. I constantly get hit-markers over and over again and then my opponent pops back up and shoots me twice and I'm dead, and spawning around the corner. The stopping power perk allowed a variety of weapon use. I could sacrifice my original power for accuracy or double up on power. Now its just the stronger weapon wins, no matter how accurate you are. 3. Maps/Camping: These new maps look amazing, but that's all they are; something nice to look at. In multiplayer these maps are breeding grounds for camping players. Its so cluttered that people can hide behind almost anything and get there accolade, emblem, and title for being in the same spot the longest. On some maps, if the team puts up a semi adequate defense, it is impossible to flank them, Outpost and Arkaden are perfect examples. Hardcore was my sanctuary from this but its the worst now.

    4. Knifing: On my full green bar connection screen, I'm witnessing myself have the upper hand lunging to get my stab, but no, epic fail on my part. A quick side step and a few bullets or a knife in my back and I'm on the floor. Once again knifing is useless unless your enemy's back is turned. If you run into somebody you might get lucky and get them with the swiping motion of turning and hitting the knifing button at the same time we all love. Personally, I think the game would be better off without the knife in multiplayer or adopt the Halo way of close combat with a little changes of course.

    5. Audio Effects: You can't turn off the game music for some odd reason. The music deafens and drowns out all aspects of the game when something important happens. The sound of the weapons are disappointing, the sound effects in MW2 sounded much more realistic.

I think I'll be switching to Battlefield 3 while my hours of waiting in line, anticipation, and excitement collect dust in its case.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start off by saying a few things. This game was incredibly hyped, and both high and low expectations for this game arose. This review outlines my final opinion on this pile of mediocre **** so let's begin.

    1. A Modern Warfare 2 Clone
It's almost the exact same game as Modern Warfare 2. Just look at eveything (title screen, the gameplay, weapons, levels ect.). Previous installments in the franchise at least had more variety and differences between each game; this pile of **** is a downright disgusting and blatantly inexcusable clone.

    2. The game is further proof of Activision tiresome efforts to milk the series.
The series is getting milked raw, and so far, the milk is curdling up into a rancid pile of moldy **** A new installment every year? Don't be ridiculous, Activision. 3. The Survival Mode reeks of ass.
Survival Mode is yet another ****ty addition to the franchise, and is inferior in almost every way to Nazi Zombies.

    4. The Campain mode should be cut out of the game (the series even) altogether.
The Campaign Mode is yet again the same linear garbage, with barely any variety or enjoyment to be had. The same can be said for almost every modern COD game. Nuff said.

    5. COD: Elite: a useless addition to the series, that shouldn't exist in the first place.
COD: Elite itself is a clone of other services, and the fact you have to pay for such a useless and gimmicky addition to the game, is more irrefutable proof that Activision is milking those **** raw. Not to mention, the service not being included as part of the game, made an already lackluster clone even more similar to it's predecessor. The integration with Facebook further proves that Activision is tageting the series towards casual gamers.

    6. Little retarded fraghead kids. Just look at your typical modern-day COD gamer. A nooblet, casual gamer fraghead kid, that loves shouting out retarded insult in the mic, and thinks that he's such a man at the game, when in reality he fails hard (noob), and has been fooled by the amount of awards this game spews out.

    7. Campers When it comes to the modern warfare franchise, people had been complaining about camping since day one, and meanwhile the problem still remains in the game (as it is a clone of MW2, what did you expect -_-). A ****ty spawning system, and cheap ways to get kills, not to mention the ease at obtaining killstreaks, just futher encourages camping.

    Conclusion:
Stay away from this game if your a real gamer, and not some dimwitted **** All the points above are reasons significant enough to end one's decision in purchasing such a tremendously overhyped and ****ty game.

The game is extremely mediocre and average, and I would have given it a 5/10, but from all the negatives I listed above, it just further drags the score down to...
    *drumroll*

There are all sorts of ways to play Black Ops: run and gun, corner camping and team camping, etc. I was a run and gunner while my signifcant other was a corner camper. We would literally cut off half of the map. My clan would rarely lose. We would have an idea of the area of where teams would spawn but wouldn't be able to cover the spawn by sitting two feet away from them. This brings me to MW3. I still run and gun which gives me little chance to be succesful. People literally spawn just feet from me and usually behind me. Earlier tonight I spawned in the middle of a building and had three people surrounding me. I was screwed. Another map my buddy was sitting on a wall shooting people who were spawning two feet below him. Aside from the spawning issue the guns are inconsistent. The power of weapons seems to flucuate greatly. I could go into more detail but puting this much time into reviewing this game after spending $120 for two copies is making me angry. I will be selling my copy to Gamestop tomorrow and play Black Ops until the next one comes out.

The maps are the bane of MW3. I enjoy the other minor changes to online gameplay, but the maps are what makes MW3 an extreme disappointment. I cannot comprehend how the devs didn't notice that EVERY single map is practically the same: small, confined, and noob friendly. Why bother getting an AC130 when you can hide from it almost anywhere in any map. There are no long distance shooting skills needed, SMGs (UMP) are favored in any situation. There is no flow to the maps, just chaos. You constantly get shot in the back, there is no feeling of a standoff like in previous COD games. I literally could go on forever with how bad these maps are. It's obvious the map makers of IW were the ones that left, because these maps are atrocious, and kill any sense of fun or accomplishment online.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna drop this game and get the 60 dollars I need for either Saints Row, Skyrim and The Darkness 2. Or any number of other games with a higher entertainment value than this.

Keyword, INNOVATION! CALL OF DUTY HAS LOST ALL CONCEPTS OF INNOVATION!!! Every year its the same game just from a different developer. Treyarch royally s****ed up zombies so they kinda went out the window, seeing as though they always make steps backwards in Call of Duty games, good ideas on paper, but poor game play overall, and IF, I'm sorry but there are so many things that just exploded in this game that screamed to me. One explosives are no longer explosives! I'd feel better throwing a pillow than a grenade, one because they tend to bounce off of everything and two, The guy literally has to sit on it for it to kill him! Next thing is mobility, I like how they varied it up with the guns, but honestly? You run like a moron at maybe a half a foot per second if you use anything bigger than an assault rifle, which screams, "Shoot this idiot!!!" Campaign really lacked any strong moments that drew you in or any super BA ones, all of it was predictable and what about these fancy new game modes? In my eyes kill confirmed is dreadful unless its in team tac, you say it encourages teamwork, I say it encourages camping since kids just sit in the center of the map and camp dog tags! The game itself is structurally sound, but there is no way it should be hailed like this, I agree with the others this isn't MW3, this is MW2.5. I will still play it, but not as much as BF or Halo or Skyrim which brings me to another thing. I paid 50$ for CoD Elite and signed up the first day, so far the servers are still down, I don't have the Founder status yet and I don't know if I ever will get it and who knows what this means for the DLC schedule. Poor poor poor poor poor POOR planning on activisions part! Expand

I've never been so disappointed over a game in my life. I expected a lot from this best-selling shooter and I was regretting the purchase after fifteen minutes of online gaming. I thought Modern Warfare 2 was a step down from Call of Duty 4, but not as bad as Modern Warfare 3.

I am not the greatest gamer, not do I claim to be any good at first person shooters. However I do enjoy a good multi-player game no matter how horrible I do. The campaign is the standard 6-8 hours that all FPS games seem to suffer from. The story picks up right after MW2. And from there we as the player take control of different people and move from one goal to the next, and in the end we kill the bad guys and all is well in the world. Pretty standard stuff here. I usually start off on easy, but not this time, I had to bump it up to normal for a little more of a challenge. It is a sad state when a gamer as me who plays on easy has to turn it up a notch. At this point I am considering attempting it on veteran to see how hard it is supposed to be. Overall the campaign is a simple go here, protect that, capture him fanfare. Not that people purchase this series for single player experiences.
The multi-player on the other hand is what everyone wants to play. When I picked up MW2 it was fairly straight forward and easy to pick up and play, And so is this, because it looks, plays, and feels just like it's predecessor. Yes, they did change some perks, and kill streaks. But overall it is the same as before. Along with the same game play you also get the stereo typical players that are with it. Nothing makes me want to play a game more than a prepubescent kid telling me to leave and stop playing the game because I did not do as well as they did. Given all online games have these types of player, but it seems that most flock to CoD. Overall it is a good game, just more of the same. Most players will enjoy the game both online and off, but I cannot say that I am impressed with it as much as I was with the 4th installment of the series. It is as if the developer decided to put forth as little effort as possible and do what they did before. This holiday season I will be trading this title in and seeking a different title to invest my time on.

I started playing CoD with the original for the Xbox. I didn't get back into it until Black Ops due to a bunch of my friends poking at me until I bought it. I absolutely loved it. I haven't been this disappointed in a very long time. It feels like nothing more then an overpriced DLC pack. While Spec Ops is very fun the multiplayer, where most players will spend the next year, seems to be rushed. It's grainy and glitchy. There are times where it feels like one bullet with kill you even when you aren't playing hardcore. Then when you watch the killcam you see that you were shot 5 times and it didn't register until that last bullet. The music is as douchey as the over-hyper developer that you could see the entire camera crew through his reflective sunglasses.( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtRa4z0dt8k ). The multiplayer experience just seems like it was ignored for other portions of the game due to the fact that they knew that players were going to play it no matter what it was like. Not a single MP map is unique in any way shape or form. The section of the CoD games that everyone loves is nothing more then a turd that wasn't even polished. I really didn't expect to put my controller down so fast. Thank God Zelda is around the corner with a 10/10 from IGN. Expand

i really feel ripped off when I play MW3. I get that we wanted a game similar to MW2 but we did not want THE EXACT GAME. I have been a huge fan of the Call of Duty series since Cod 4 but i think MW3 is a step in the wrong direction. Issues that plagued MW2 can still be found in MW3. The maps in this game are horrible. we wanted smaller maps...not small maps, all buildings, junk and broken cars everywhere with 10000 lines of sight. Lets talk about kill-streaks, i work my butt off to get these high streaks and they are so underpowered and easily shot-down. Air-support is pretty much useless now that point streaks can be earned through shooting them down. I was really looking forward to a NEW call of duty. Instead we got an expansion pack of MW2, new guns, some new crappy maps, and crappy killstreaks. The best part of this game was the campaign. I guess since they just took the MW2 multiplayer and put it in MW3 they had alot more time to focus on the campaign. I have a great analogy, MW3 is like the iPhone 4S, tons of hype for a new game, and something refreshing, but instead you get minor upgrades but the product itself is identical. IMHO save your money, BF3 is not good either. From one cod fan to another, i am truly disappointed. Expand

Giocandoci sentivo la forte sensazione di trovarmi in Modern Warfare 2 + Black Ops ..... è una vergogna e 70 euro non li vale minimamente. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was looking forward to this game even though it is a yearly release. I am still very impressed with the awe dropping performance of the single player campaign even though there were some annoying querks. For instance, shooting from the back of the truck in the chase will lead right to death once the doors are opened because the bullets were able to go through the door from the attacking Russian Humvee from behind. I got stuck in that part for a 5 hours before I had to restart the mission since I had a repetitive cycle. I could not change my strategy either because of a forced Quick time event. Dont get me wrong I like quick time events, in my opinion, they add to the cinematic experience. Something that also happened was random RPG's shooting and killing me when I am trying to kill other people that are shooting at me. I think that part needed a little more QA and that is something I didn't expect since it was never in the previous modern warefare games, the game has such high production budget with so much hype and attention to it, and not to mention 5 Activision studios putting their work in this game. Overall, I did like the Campaign though as the story was great! the cutscenes were great, and the environments look amazing as well! I have not had a chance to play spec ops mode yet, but I played a few hours of multiplayer and I was dissapointed than ever. Enemies spawn too much behind the player, so every time I am spawning there is always an enemy next to me or one that has visibility to me. That is not good because sometimes it takes a while to get used to where you and your team are after spawning. I don't think there was enough repo steps/QA in order to make sure that multiplayer functions like it should. I know it is suppose to be a fast past arcade style shooter, but you can still make it fast, balanced, and fair. One thing about this game as a mechanic or feedback loop that I hate is when I get shot, and I try to shoot back simultaneously and I cant because my upper body seems to want to jolt up when I get shot to prevent from shooting back. This makes no sense to me and it is completely unnatural. Even though the single player was solid besides a few placed quick time events and random RPG one hit kills that happened too often...It is a mediocre game compared to the first and second Modern Warfare games. Innovation and time would have been better, as well as making a longer single player and/or more spec ops missions. The other part that kills this game is lack of PC support (hence why pc sales did bad) for graphics and for ranked dedicated servers. This game is not worth $60. Expand

Titles and emblems are mostly the same as MW2 which seems a bit lazy on the part of Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer. Spec-Ops is a lot of fun however and is definitely worth playing. However, the similarities to previous titles and multiplayer frustrations really bring down the score for me. Disappointing. Now I here that the developers are begging people to give it a higher score on this site...maybe instead of trying to pad ratings they should actually read these comments and figure out why it is scoring so low. It sells well I guess so they will keep on pushing the same game out every year. Oh and also COD Elite isn't working properly, of which I paid $50 so that is another rip-off. Visuals and audio are second rate and the map design is poor with maps being too small and quickly forgettable. Then there is the fact that there are still no dedicated servers which makes online gaming still a game of chance and don't believe this nonsense they have spouted about dedicated servers costing 'billions of dollars' as it is complete lies. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
