Battlefield 3 may not be a Game changer but without a doubt has nailed a near perfect Multiplayer, from its class system to its Massive Online battles, Dice have really created a fun and addictive game that makes you feel like your in a "Battlefield". Anyone who is a military shooter fan this is a must buy.

Lets get the lesser part out of the way first. The campaign is okay, with a couple juicy parts in it but nobody is really here for the campaign, its the multiplayer! BF3's multiplayer is the best out there and will look to be up if not better than MW3.

Oh EA, so sure that this game would destroy Modern Warfare 3 if only it was true. All very impressive visuals and sound but when it comes to campaign, that's where everything goes wrong. The story takes itself too seriously, the boring jet ride, repetitive gameplay, just another story about USA vs Russia as if we haven't seen that before..."It doesn't matter!" A fanboy cried out "Graphics and Multiplayer Rock!". Ah, Multiplayer which is the best part of the game, I had fun with the beta but it went me tell you this. I can't play on Multiplayer, why? Because the code didn't work and I contacted Amazon and they contacted EA and EA said they said I will have to Buy it for 800 MSP. As if. The code's are getting pretty pathetic, at least in Bad Company 2 I could play online without the code but I won't get the free maps, I'm happy with that. This game is a huge disappointment. I regret ever buying this game. I'd hate to say this fanboy's, but when It comes to campaign, MW3 will win that one. Expand

Honestly, I am a huge battlefield fan and I mean huge I love every game of the series I have but Battlefield 3 is an unfinished product that needs a lot of patching before I can call it a smooth experience. To start off with the campaign is good but very generic, honestly a very good copy of COD Black Ops' campaign which I didn't like. The campaign also has a good number of glitches in it which can detract from the experience; overall I felt detached and found a few of the checkpoints to not even load and I had to restart the mission in order for the problem to be fixed. Multiplayer is amazing and in my opinion it is the best in the series and one of the only redeeming factor in the game; lots of unlocks, medals, camas, ribbons, and more. Multiplayer I feel and always will be the only reason you should buy a Battlefield game but all the other things like campaign and co-op are nice bonuses only problem with this just like co-op is the servers are absolutely terrible and connection is lost all the time and I can recall twice now were the servers were down for about 3 hours which is really aggravating .Co-op it is a nice experience and you can actually unlock guns for multiplayer in it which I felt was really cool; the co-op has six levels as of now. Overall I feel this is a worthy successor to BF2 but it has a lot of problems that can be renovated and if and when they are the game will shine in a better light but as of now the game feels unfinished although I still recommend that you pick it up given the chance. I love the immersive environments where objects can be moved or destroyed, environments that closely mimmick real life. Battlefield 3 does very well here as the landscape, buildings, and objects change from heavy fire and explosions. Nobody does this better in my opinion. The game also does very well in emulating live combat. There are some scripted parts which force certain movements which I'm not quite a fan of but overall it's palatable. The graphics are very good, not perfect, but I'd trade that for great gameplay and character movement any day. Downloading the HD resolution pack is a must do, it's a big file, but it looks great. The campaign was short and sweet with a great storyline and great character voice overs. The soundtrack is amazing. The reason I bought this game however, was for the multiplayer, and I have not been let down! The multiplayer is fantastic. I wasn't a fan of Bad Company 2's multiplayer. They went back to the drawing board on this one and scored huge. I love the fact that the game ranks you in different classes with different weapons and promotes you for different achievements unlike other military games...just as a soldier would pull rank and commendations in real life...this is also something that nobody else does better. The battlelog feature is awesome. The customization of your character is bar none. They have a really feature rich control menu that allows you to have a truly unique experience should you choose to switch classes or weapons. Excellent, the best when it comes to this.

I don't have preferences between BF or COD...I just love to play a great game.

Was looking forward to this, but it failed to live up to the hype. Why:
    - Campaign is really poor
    - Corrupt data. Lets start with the fact I and another person I know had the same problem, didn't save game properly and saved game corrupted. had to start again - Bad AI. Playing on hard, but as long as you don't get shot you really don't have to work too hard - Poorly scripted moments.

    - more poorly scripted moments. Ran up a street after a shoot out. Without warning got run over by a tank. Turns out you hit a point in the street and a tank appears on the left and bursts onto the street. No warning and no tolerance for what player might be doing... OMG
    - Poor environment. Most of the game is set in the dark and you have bright lights from cars and street lights in your eyes all the time. How do you see the environment and feel like you are in it. Just feels like this removes you a little. First time I have seen so many burnt out cars with their head lights still on full beam..

While its true that the multiplayer is clearly the focus of BF3, DICE still felt the need to add a campaign to bulk out the experience, you know why? To justify the price tag. If Battlefield 3 is a multiplayer-focused game, then for **** sake, cut out the single player **** and cut the price tag, I don't want to fork out $90 (Aussie) for a game only to find out that the Multiplayer is the only component worth its salt, at least with CoD they put a reasonable amount of effort into the campaign while still producing amazing multiplayer, and then there's the other modes like Spec. Ops and Zombies.
Nonetheless, 8 is a good score, and that's because the multiplayer is amazing, but I would very much suggest waiting until the price drops to get BF3, save the big money for meaty games like Assassin's Creed Revelations, Halo: CE Anniversary and Skyrim (a thousand **** times, buy Skyrim)

The coop is a new addition to the Battlefield franchise (unless you consider BFBC2 Onslaught mode a type of coop). There are 6 missions averaging about 20 minutes each. However, you can unlock multiplayer guns in these missions are they are extremely fun to play. The 1st is a basic defend your position against tanks and enemies using mines, javelins, m249s, etc. The 2nd is a change of pace, you're in a scout helicopter tasked to protect two ground teams from incoming forces which include tanks and infantry, one player fully pilots while the other fully guns.

Another is a sniper mission where you are tasked to rescue hostages from a very far distance with silenced guns. This mission really felt like a first person Splinter Cell, it was my favorite of the six.

Another is a mix up of everything basically. You start silently to save an informant, then you go guns blazing through Iraqi streets and you ride in Humvees.

My second favorite was the one where you have to reach the garage and your in a hotel. It's basically on the run and you destroy everything in your path.

The last one was probably the shortest. You are tasked with disarming a subway bomb and essentially you go in with gas masks and mow down guys.

The multiplayer is where Battlefield shines. No joke, this is probably the best multiplayer I have ever played in my life. I'm ruling out Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty, Halo, Killzone, Gears of War... anything. There are hundreds of unlockables which include weapons, camo (for your character), weapon addons, specializations, tank upgrades, jet upgrades, ground vehicle upgrades (besides tanks), AA gun upgrades, scout helicopter upgrades, and attack helicopter upgrades. Currently, there are 33 vehicles in the game which include all of those mentioned above. The campaign is given a 7, the coop is a 8, and the multiplayer is a 9.5.

Overall, the game is about an 8/10.

It's amazing, if you want to try a new FPS... if you love the Battlefield series... or if you want the best multiplayer experience for FPS, get this game. It's worth every penny.

Somebody needs to give this game a proper review. Basically every review from the pro's have been saying that same thing. That basically 2/3 of the game is of no use and that the multiplayer is being plagued by connection issues yet the game gets a rating of 90+? In what world does that make any sense?

Now the positives: 1-The graphics an sounds are ASTOUNDING. The large maps and various classes allow you to play according to your style. You dont have to be a twitch COD player to rack up numerous kills in this game. Further, as you level the game continues to stay extremely balanced. Having problems with prone snipers? Level up support and get mortars. Having problems with run and gun? Be a sniper and prone out along the edge of the map. Like to gun but also be a party favorite? Be assault and heal your friends! Get killed a lot? Get in a tank and reek havoc! Getting killed by tanks? Be an engineer and nuke them with mines and rockets! The balance is amazing. Dont let the COD fanboys/girls dissuade you. If you someone calls this game a Modern Warfare ripoff, that is a very incorrect statement. Firstly Battlefield 2 (online FPS set in a modern time with modern weaponry) came out 2 whole years before Call of Duty 4. Second the two franchises play entirely different, especially with BF3's Frostbite 2.0 engine. The new engine truly is a game changer. The single player campaign is really the weakest part of the game. With every progression in the plot you see more and more cliched elements, these elements are done relatively well but have been done before so often the entire single player feels borrowed. The story is passable but very unremarkable with terrorists threatening to start World War 3 (sound familiar Call of Duty fans?).

The real reason to play Battlefield 3 is the Multiplayer. It is very unique in how it plays with its structure and feel. Certain aspects still feel very "Battlefield" like the weapons and the vehicles still a joy to use, and the conquest mode is back once again and is untouched in it's implementation. Another returning mode is "Rush" and was the most fun I've had in a shooter when I first played in in Bad Company 2 and is even better now with the Frostbite 2.0 engine. The maps are very well done and although they are smaller on the console versions being confined to a smaller area with guardians that kill you when you stray outside the designated area (that doesn't keep you from trying sometimes to make a run through these "out of area" routes that can sometimes give you a great vantage point for playing sniper or simply flanking an enemy or vehicle that's been mowing your comrades down.) There is also the use of parachutes in Battlefield 3, a subtle feature that can and often does create some exciting situations, be it bailing out of a disabled aircraft, the recon class can drop radio spawn points that allow your squad mates to parachute into an area deep in enemy territory, or my personal favorite... BASE JUMPING. There are instances in Rush mode where as attackers you destroy the M-Comm stations and the defenders fall back to the next level, that next level is at the bottom of a cliff and as attackers your new spawn point is at the top of this cliff, pure genius and so fun to parachute down laying fire down or spot enemies and pickup some easy spot bonuses as you sail to Terra Firma. This all is great and if I could split this review into two I would give the single player a 7 and the multiplayer an emphatic 10. Now there have been reported problems with both the single and multiplayer but I have yet to encounter any real problems. Occasional high ping here and there can cause your to jump around on the map for a second I've found (running a constant ping on my network monitoring software revealed the lags were coinciding with a single high ping but not with every high ping) but this happens so little that it's barely worth mentioning. The ability to browse servers is another welcome addition and one you don't see on console online play often, but you can find a match very quickly and easily using the quick match option, especially if you're alone, most the time it takes less than 3 seconds to hit a server and start loading the map. All in all there's very little wrong with the multiplayer while it does so many things exceptionally well. If you have the money and can't decide which FPS franchise to buy this year, by all means you should buy both, and if you are limited on funds and have to pick save up a few bucks and give this one a rent before you blindly go out and sink your $60 bucks on CoD. This game may not appeal to all types but those that it does will have an experience unlike any other in the Online FPS genre in this current generation.

    -more australian servers
-back to Karkland map pack(cant wait) -buy game for multiplayer
-dont cry and rage if you expected a good single player(like me). Battlefield started as a multiplayer only title so expect it to deliver your life's meaning there.

Multiplayer: if you can get into a game is fun, the servers have a tendency to drop mid game(happened to me 9 times in a row) and if you drop you lose all progression you got during said match, game looks excellent though. I'm sure in a few months this game could have potential but for now just save your money...i wish I did. Expand

Speaking on the Campaign only: THE GOOD: Absolutely beautiful graphics throughout most of the game. Great cinematic feel to the beginning of the flight mission, then a let down because you don't have control of the jet (just guns and missiles). THE BAD: The campaign is pretty lame as a whole. The story is garbage, basically a mirror image of the competition MW. You kill Russians and play as them in select missions; shameful rip off. Many of the missions are boring walk and shoots through uninspired environments. You spend one mission on the streets of Paris, but you are no where near any famous landmarks. Another you spend in a drab mall in the middle east.
The campaign is worse than medal of honor and bad company 2. Very disappointing single player, but if your a multiplayer exclusive you'll probably be happy.

NOTE: You are not about to read a review full of the word "faggot" and there is absolutely no bias in franchises on my behalf. It's also written with proper grammar and spelling.

It feels bad - having to rate the game the way that I am, but I absolutely feel like this is the way I have to do it. After months of waiting, telling all my Black Ops friends that Battlefield 3 was going to blow Call Of Duty out of the water and all that jazz - I feel disappointed and I'm happy that they didn't listen to me and throw down pre-orders before the reviews came out.

Campaign Mode: Now, I have seen a lot of the Battlefield defenders out here stating that the single player shouldn't even be taken into account. Frankly, that's false on so many levels I don't even know where to begin.. but a wise man once said that any game with the single player option, should have a leg to stand on based on that single player option alone. Aside from pretty graphics, the campaign here is stock-standard - there isn't really a reason to touch it. It's the same old thing we've seen over and over again, and it's the kind of thing that goes straight into the bargain bin these days. But I would never fully condemn something without offering an alternative - so how about next time we see a campaign that is based on providing a story-based tutorial on tactics that should be used in the multiplayer game? Let's not mince words here, Battlefield IS a multiplayer experience first and foremost - but if you're not going to try and string out a decent story and drag it out over a trilogy or something of the sort - have SOME point to the thing.

Multiplayer Mode: This is of course where the game was meant to shine, and for the most part it does - it works the way that it was designed... when the people do. Your experience is going to be severely based on who you are playing with, and this day and age it's just about as bad as ever. Let's be serious for a moment - if you think that your friends are always going to be around when you want to play - that's something that just isn't going to happen. I have around a dozen friends to play with and aside from the rare one day a week a good number of us getting together is a rarity.

BUT, when it does work and you all communicate things CAN be beautiful. I won't even take into consideration the servers going down so much on release - and knowing EA and my experiences with all of the Battlefield games, they will be going down quite a bit - I've had some pretty good experience. But than again I have also came into situations where my team-mate has just driven around in circles inside mission critical equipment. It's infuriating, it takes you out of the game and it happens more often than I'd like to admit.

The unlocks right now are the only thing keeping me going at a regular pace.. the terrain is beautiful and provides a good deal of cover but there is a lot of independent scenery that I am finding myself having to navigate around.. and poorly. I'm talking bits of small scenery on the ground that is slowing me down in ways that it really shouldn't.

All in all - for everything bad, I am finding something good. It's just I feel that the good is going to wear off and the bad is going to stay. If you seriously can't stand the way COD handles multiplayer (and you are educated enough to see what changes they've made this year) AND you can only afford to buy one of these.. go with Battlefield, it's not what it was hyped to be but it's what you've come to know and love.

The single player was just alright, like many seem to think. A few nice set pieces and nice visuals, but the AI was disappointing. There are times when I have to travel too far to engage with enemies only to get sniped and start the process all over again which becomes very frustrating. There is a lack of flow to the game play, in my opinion. And although I have grown a little tired of the noob tubes and powerful explosives in Call of Duty, Explosives in BF3 seem so weak and not very useful. It is hard to put my finger on but I never seem to get a connection with any of the guns and there is a certain "clunkiness" to the feel of the game flow. I have yet to get into a "zone" like I have with Modern Warfare or even Halo. I was always more of a Call of Duty fan, but I was very excited about this game, especially with all of the hype leading up to release. And I do appreciate this game for what it offers as opposed to Modern Warfare. But I think I'm more of a fan of the more fast paced, instant action of MW, even with the dated game engine and lack of realism. Expand

To start this off, I would like to point out that this should not be read as biased. This is my honest opinion about Battlefield 3 ALONE. This is my honest opinion about Battlefield 3 ALONE. I will admit to religiously playing both the Call of Duty and Battlefield franchises throughout the years. I have, historically, preferred the Call of Duty campaign and Zombies modes against Battlefield's, but I have enjoyed Battlefield's multiplayer a tremendous deal more than Call of Duty's.

Battlefield 3 is amazing. The multiplayer, as always, is as solid as a brick house. Absolutely nothing can come marginally close to its experience. The co-op is engaging, as it often requires players to actually work as a team to accomplish goals. What really surprised me, however, was the campaign. It was as awesome as any other mode on Battlefield. Battlefield 3 delivers a great story, spanning multiple environments and countless roles. The inclusion of multi-button sequences is welcomed, too. The only glitch I encountered was a problem with audio being looped (i.e. a conversation at the beginning of the mission kept replaying for me).

With that said, I scold both fanboys and haters to give the game a score based on their own biases. I personally find the Battlefield series more enjoyable, but that doesn't mean I will rule out Call of Duty. Grow up or go home.

The gameplay is top notch and feels fresh compared to other shooters, with the destruction and variety of vehicles there will always be something new happening. Not to mention the ton of unlocks which WILL keep you playing for months trying to unlock everyone. Battlefield 3 has the best audio ever in a game and will scare you multiple time when a rocket whizzes past your head or a wall is blown up while you next to it, the sound will never get old and will keep you focused. The Multiplayer is obviously where Battlefield 3 game time is spent and DICE have made sure the time is a LONG time with 9 maps and 5 playable modes there is a map and a mode for you. Conquest being the classic and favourite it sure is the most hectic with jets and helicopters flying by which will be taken out within minutes by a stinger, T90-A's and Humvee's rolling down the hill which will be taken out by a javelin. No vehicle is overpowered and there is always a way to succeed. That is what Battlefield as a series is about, CHOICE. There is always another way to do something, for example if you come across a M1 Abram you could run hoping it won't pummel you with it's weaponry or you could take it out with an RPG-7 or you could take it out with an AT-mine or you could take it out with a Javelin. That is only a few ways for just that situation, there is never just one way and every way will be your little Battlefield moment. The Singleplayer in my opinion is very good and is the best war game story but because it is not the reason to buy Battlefield 3 I won't go into it much but say there are some pretty epic moments. On to the bad part there are a few glitches but they are minor to the ones in the beta, which most are gone. There are a few server issues at the moment though they will most likely be sorted out soon. This is definitely the game to get this year, it will certainly keep you glued to your T.V. for quite a while. Make sure to have some tissues on standby. Expand

If you're looking for a great single player campaign you're out of luck, rent BF3 or pick it up in the bargain bin. If you're looking for the best online multiplayer action then BF3 is your game hands down.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
