The core of Steamworld Dig is a simple one, yet with the charm & wit it possesses really hooks you in.

This gem is worth picking up again, even if it's just to gawk at the HD revamp. [Issue#116, p.90]

But seriously, this is an ideal game for this platform, and great to just pick up and play at any time.

With tight controls, a lush Western soundtrack, and beautifully animated sprites, SteamWorld Dig is one of this year's best games on the Wii U eShop, joining Ittle Dew in the "gorgeous Swedish indie adventures" category.

With a perfect mix of exploration and platforming, randomly generated maps, awesome upgrades and extremely addictive gameplay, SteamWorld Dig is a fantastic game, one that I highly recommend playing.

If you already own it, I wouldn’t recommend picking this up even if you are fancying a second playthrough and own it elsewhere (why waste the money on a game you already have?) but for first timers, go for it. It’s fun, well made, and hopefully if it does well, we’ll see some sequels set in their weird post-human no-electricity world.

Minor annoyances - more noticeable after four ports of the game - prevent the game from ever reaching indie perfection, but this is an experience not to be missed.

The game is addictive and a lot of fun. What the Wii U offers over and above the others is that you can play it both on the TV or solely on the gamepad.

A little bit more variety in gameplay would have made it the perfect game, but SteamWorld Dig comes at a low price point, so there isn’t any real point in complaining about what is ultimately a well-polished and entertaining title.

SteamWorld Dig has all the right ingredients: the inspiration, the fun factor, the captivating nature and the technical execution. Any game that successfully brings together elements from Metroid and Minecraft is a hit and other than its relatively short lifespan, there's no reason why SteamWorld Dig won't seduce and captivate players one more time.

The Wii U version of Steamworld Dig is the same game that we have seen on pretty much every other console. It offers the same addictive gameplay, has charming graphics and is just long enough. At the same time it’s a little bit shallow and can be pretty repetitive after a while.

Even without offering a reason for veteran players to return, SteamWorld Dig for Wii U is a great opportunity for those that still haven't experienced this good game from Image & Form.
