Nice old-style graphics, interesting level design and upgrade system will give 5-10 hours of good gameplay. The only cons of the game - it is too short, Some DLC is wanted.

For first timers, very addicting, the start is slow. However it picks up as you progress, especially after the puzzle portions begin. For $10, worth it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The concept, the controls, environment and puzzles. Ultimately its let down by its length as my geeky smile of gaming orgasm appeared it ended a real shame but it definitely has me excited for there next game steam world heist, which hopefully with a bigger budget can be a slightly longer gem. If you enjoy 2-d titles this is a must have to any collection.

This game, while borrowing ideas from other games such as Terraria, surprised me. When watching a video about other ports of the game I believed that this would be another bland, and tasteless addition to the Nintendo e shop. However upon purchasing this game I was very surprised at how smooth the game ran and the feel. As a first timer this game was incredibly good to me. It was very addictive, however once you finish the game there is not much replay value leaving you wanting more power-ups and gadgets. The game does not really have enough content to make up for its eight dollar price tag. I received this on sale for less than five dollars. Expand

I enjoyed this game, but it is very short and fairly typical.

    Pros:
    + Art style is awesome
    + digging
    + upgrading

    Cons:
    - digging and digging and digging
    - very short
    - gameplay seen before many times
    - once through is enough

This game starts out slow--I would call it casual--but picks up pace quite nicely. In my opinion, this game is perfect. Maybe I had low expectations going in, but I think this is one of those underrated gems that you wont regret picking up.

Nice game with nice mechanics BUT waaay too short. Can't recomend it if you have to pay more than 5 bucks for this. When it starts to get interesting it just ends...pity..

SteamWorld Dig is a solid game. But it starts off very slow. So slow, in fact, that I was worried that digging and collecting minerals was all there was to the game. But as I went further into the game, I grabbed some upgrades and traversed some well-designed platforming sections, and it felt really nice. Definitely worth a purchase if you like to explore and have a bit of platforming action. Expand

Good game all around. Mining for ores in the early game is a bit tedious, but once the game ramps up and you get used to the mechanics, it gets fun. But then, it ends...pretty early. At most you'll get about 7 hours of gameplay if you're trying to find every nook and cranny and buy every upgrade. There's no NG+, so that's it. Beat the game. SteamWorld Dig is a fantastic MetroidVania exploratory adventure, with an addictive gameplay loop and a charming cast of characters. It's one of my all-time favorite indie games and a must for any Wii U owner if you don't already have it on another platform.

This took a few tries to really hook me. Not that the premise or opening of the game are badly done, but it just feels a bit slow at first. The basic rhythm of the game -- dig down, bring stuff up, upgrade, head back down -- is surprisingly rewarding and addictive as you progress, mostly because the gameplay is very tight and the environments are well done. This gem is worth picking up again, even if it's just to gawk at the HD revamp. [Issue#116, p.90]

The core of Steamworld Dig is a simple one, yet with the charm & wit it possesses really hooks you in.

If you already own it, I wouldn’t recommend picking this up even if you are fancying a second playthrough and own it elsewhere (why waste the money on a game you already have?) but for first timers, go for it. It’s fun, well made, and hopefully if it does well, we’ll see some sequels set in their weird post-human no-electricity world.
