   Growing up in the Genesis generation, the Mummy Demastered feels like a significantly more polished version of the action platformers I lovedGrowing up in the Genesis generation, the Mummy Demastered feels like a significantly more polished version of the action platformers I loved as a kid.
   
   Yes, it is a Metroidvania. It utilizes the 16-bit influenced pixel art style to its fullest potential and crafts an atmospheric world that does not detract from the gameplay. The animations are smooth and fluid, the dialogue doesn't insult your intelligence, and the levels are crafted with a classic Metroid feel, pulling you into deeper exploration to both max out your characters abilities, and progress through the story.
   
   Well recommended for $20, even more so if it goes on sale.… Expand

   The Mummy Demastered is another addition to the long list of Metroidvanias with some good elements to it but is kept from being great from itsThe Mummy Demastered is another addition to the long list of Metroidvanias with some good elements to it but is kept from being great from its many flaws.
   
   What you will find is some great and fluid pixel art, a stellar soundtrack, and good run n' gun gameplay somewhat similar to Contra. As usual, you'll need to find upgrades to traverse further along the map, but this time you'll need to manage ammo for the weapons you find along your journey, which I thought was a different but interesting idea. The areas and enemies are sufficient enough, but I would have liked to see some more variety thrown in.
   
   Here is my biggest flaw with the game, and the one that really knocks the score down a few points: the challenge/difficulty doesn't come from having to fight tough enemies, but rather having a lot of enemies thrown at you all the time. It becomes especially frustrating when you need to platform; you'll find yourself getting knocked off constantly and having to redo it all multiple times.
   
   So, is it worth picking up? I say yes, especially if you are an avid Metroidvania fan. The game is by no means perfect, and its flaws may possibly put off a lot of players, but its still very much a good game that should be added to your collection.… Expand

   This game deserves a lot of credit for the incredible pixel sprites, backgrounds and music. (Those, alone, are worth giving it a shot!) The control and gameplay feel refreshingly tight and satisfying, too. But for all those great bullet points, the game itself feels a bit half-baked. The level design is pretty samey across the whole game, and the game is fairly short, as well. It's absolutely worth a play if you're into Action Platformers or Retro Revival Metroidvanias, but it doesn't do much to reinvent the genre.
   
   At it's best, Mummy Demastered is a treat to see, hear and play. It doesn't overstay its welcome, which is great, but it doesn't do anything new with itself in the second half of the game. Definitely worth buying if you see it on sale, but there are plenty of other Metroidvanias, even by WayForward, which do more to satisfy.… Expand
