Work of art. Massive step up from BOTW (breath of the wild), and improves on everything disliked about it. Incredibly fun and I have already spent over 150 hours playing this masterpiece. The NPC interactions, the dungeons, the bosses, the combat, the enemies, the mechanisms, EVERYTHING is perfect about this game. Strongly recommend, you will have alot of fun, it's a huge time killer.

That single user review kinda killed my will to play but it was an idiot reviewing ultimately. This game is incredible and I have no clue on how the f they made it run on a switch. It's incredible, ways to temples are the most epic thing i've ever seen in a game, exploring is kind of a full time job. Didnt even know there was an underground world so huge. I am not even exploring the sky so much as there's so much to do here, BOTW feels like a tiny game compared to this. I seriously don't know how they pulled this off. this game is the closest game to perfect. there are some flaws but still deserves a 10. if the flaws were gone this game might be a 11.
my only flaw with totk,is the sages ai is kinda annoying and you will always use one of the sage's ability when you try to pick up or interact with something.

One of, if not my favourite game of all time. This game improves upon Breath of the Wild in every way. I only really have two gripes with the game. I dislike the fact that there is a ton of Rauru's blessing shrines, and lack of interesting sky islands to explore, and a low amount of them overall. Overall, this game is phenomenal

After 130 hours of pure joy I finished the story today and my god was the ending good! In general, the story was actually much better.

One of the best games I have ever played. The world is full of content, and exploration feels rewarding. The game also has many puzzles, and the combat is also amazing. The only downside that I can think of is the story. It's good, but it's not great. It's the usual good vs evil, and I hoped they would try something different with Ganondorf.

Having never experienced the original Breath of the Wild, I approached Tears of the Kingdom with fresh eyes. The initial stages of the game were enjoyable, leading me to complete three Regional Phenomena quests and explore a considerable portion of the Depths. Yet, over time, my experience was marred by a growing sense of irritation.

My most significant issue lies with the controls.

Nintendo appears to be attempting to squeeze too much functionality into a single console controller. This results in a game experience where players find themselves spending an excessive amount of their playtime navigating through menus. Constant interruptions to select a new weapon, shield, or bow, or to consume food, become a prominent part of the game. For those seeking a more laid-back gaming session, this could become a source of annoyance due to the incessant need to switch to a menu to choose an option. The interruptions are relentless.

When it comes to world design and the sheer variety of activities, the game scores a perfect '10'. While it's true that the graphics are bound by the system's limitations, they remain quite admirable. Though they occasionally appear pixelated, they are still beautiful within their constraints. No one expects PlayStation 5 level graphics, but what's presented here is not just acceptable, but artistically, very commendable.

In conclusion, I rate the game a 7. While it offers a fantastic world to explore, the overall experience is significantly hindered by an overly complex and tedious control scheme.

I ran around in Hyrule for a little bit and its just so goddamn boring that I haven't booted it in a week. I am convinced people are justifying their $70. Outside of children, I genuinely cannot understand why anyone with a decent amount of braincells would act like Tears of The Kingdom is even half as good as the RE4 remake or Hogwarts Legacy. It is an absolute joke. People are literally making penis rockets and penis cars. Its gross honestly, what theyve allowed to happen to the Zelda franchise. It is no longer Zelda.

TLDR: good for nolifers and school age teens. Everyone else, move on you will be disappointed and repelled.

I am going to start by admitting that I didn't finish the tutorial section of the game... and there is a good reason for that, I have a life with a wife, children, pets, a job and real friends and family. The tutorial appears to take 4-5 hours of very motivated and knowledgeable players. Imagine now being a regular person who just wants to enjoy a few games on the side of a very busy life. 4-5 hours turns into 4 weeks. Which turns into a waste of time and money. I cannot imagine the amount of time wasted in progressing the story given the game mechanics for a reasonable adult: we are talking of committing 100% of your free time to that piece of junk.

Now, I have played openworld games before with more than a thousand hours under my belt, but this game is not openworld (even nintendo admitted that it is the case, it wants to give the feeling of freedom but still the user is railroaded subtly to progress the story with the one inescapable ending). It's a cleverly scripted close world with a pointlessly large map used as a distraction where the user is constricted to do what is expected in a way that mimics freedom. There is no consequence to bad actions, you cannot progress the game unless you perform the actions required by the developers. It's like being railroaded: you can move sideways, up and down, as much as you want, but there's only one entrance and one exit to the room you are in. Another analogy is the game is like a series of skipping ropes: you have inescapable nodes and outside of that you can do whatever you want, it's pointless and adds nothing to the game. The tutorial, again, demonstrates perfectly the issue.

Now for the game technical aspects: visually the game is just a mess, the textures are laughable the cel shading is applied unequally and mostly, the game should not be using cel shading the way it does: particle elements, water and effectively distant background are rendered unceled whereas the character and some close environment elements are celed. Unless again you are very young, the graphic may make you sick or disoriented. It's very reminiscent of early 2000 games and cel shading is just used to hide the fact the console is outdated and the game is unoptimizable. Played on handheld mode or tv mode, the game is still incredibly hideous. Those who claim the game is beautiful are just lying to themselves. Additionally, for a game that appears to be heavily based on its predecessor, the frame drops are just inexcusable and forget choosing a more performance based rendering, it is not an option. I forgot to talk about the shadows, the time of day management, etc: this should not be in a 2023 production at this price point.

The game mechanics mix minecraft with creation and building elements from other games like fallout 4, or fortnite. What is this game? Is it a RPG, or a minecraft derivative? it's not a RPG as there is no consequences, just going onwards and upwards to save zelda. It's not adventure (you cannot avoid the minecraft elements unless you want to progress and you are railroaded subtely), it's not action (you don't have any of the basic capacities in available in current action game like rolling, straffing, etc and you must craft and use powers). You cannot remap the controls and the options listed in the menu are basically decorative. Again, it's an openworld in which you have no choice but to do what you are told otherwise you do not progress, and that is shown with the use of the powers, building, etc. The lifespan of the "weapons" is hilarious, just to show that you must craft more and grind.

Another element of this openworld, is the management of the inventory: an real openworld game would set strong limits not 20/20/14, this large limit exists for people to grind. People have been talking about creativity in this game. What does creativity mean in an action-adventure openworld game?

The control lags, control precision, camera management show this game is poorly developed. There is also no grading of difficulty, which is a strong indication this game is just made to railroad users who like to grind.

One element made me laugh: voice acting. Either use it, or don't use it the developers did not know how or when to use it. And it's hilarious. Same goes with the grunts or the "etheral music" which is not whimsical, it's here to mask the utter lack of sound stage design.

I almost forgot: if you need to watch youtube videos from nolifers to understand what to do next, this game is not well designed. Do I want to watch 5 hours of YT to know how to complete the tutorial, totaling 10 hours wasted, no thank you.

At the end, is this game good? No, it's made for a demographic who has time to waste grinding like they were working on a factory floor and who lies to themselves to justify wasting money on an early 2000 product released in 2023

The quests are uninspired and there is a lot of collect 50 of this find 50 of that just to bloate the game. The depths is extremely boring and lackluster and the sky island are almost non-existent. The four first temples are the same mechanic with a different skin, and the last tempel is some of the worst game design I have ever seen where you take all the stuff you have worked for and ignor it to ride one a robot. This hase to be the worst boss fight on Zelda history. The game is nothing more than an overpriced DLC for Breath of the wild.

The contorls are mostly locked the only thin you can change is switching the sprint and jump button but this also changes all the funktions of the buttons so everything mapped to B is now X and vice versa. The button funktionaloty isn't consistent across the game B is sprit on foot A is sprint on Horseback and X is dash in water I don't understand why they couldn't keep it the same button.

It is also much bigger and direct continuation from that game which is nice if you really liked BoTW. I did not even get the climbing gear this time around because the flying machine that you can make really makes exploration so much easier, I recommend to do the Fire Temple ASAP so you can unlock the rest of your abilities and get the companion that blows up the giant explodable rocks that you encounter alot in the multitude of caves and mines you explore. I started to play the game on the 75“ tv screen and its awful. After the 5 hour tutorial i switched to the handheld mode and i like it a lot more. Controls are sometimes clumsy and you need to walk/ ride a lot and a fable for exploring must be given. For me clearly not so good as the N64 Zeldas but not bad at all.

I am constantly thinking about different methods to use, and have a level of excitement and enthusiasm for a game that I've only ever had a few times. I've been gaming since Pac-Man in the arcades and Donkey Kong on the Colecovision, and this game is already one of my favorite ways to spend time in front of the TV I've ever found.

I had many hopes for this game to improve upon BoTW, the only thing that stands out to me is the new sandbox building aspect while that is indeed a cool feature I feel as if this game could have done a lot more with the open world, it still feels barren and empty like the previous entry.

Please bring the old Zelda feel back. Not the top down versions (although they are better then this and breath of the wild) but i want Twlight Princess and Majorias mask style and yes OOT along with WW. This is just an empty open world game with little story and nothing new. Love Zelda Games and I love Nintendo to death but plz stop with emptyness.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Remove the Zelda name from this game and all of the nostalgia would be completely washed away and that is the only reason this game is getting such glowing reviews. Not only did Nintendo screw up the one thing that made BOTW so awesome, but they doubled down on so many things from BOTW that people hated. The storyline is pathetic outside of the first 10 minutes and the extended ending. The "all weapons have decayed" plot device makes exactly zero sense. Most of the sages are absolutely useless outside of specific combat situations, Tulin being the sole exception since he helps you glide better (with a massive recharge time, btw) and his crit shots can be super useful, especially when stunning a Frox for an unexpected easy hit or two. Some people complained about how BOTW was a largely empty world... well, that same thing still applies here, which is ironic considering how this game absolutely BURIES you in quests and pointless busywork to do basic things, like activating towers. Thankfully you don't have to climb them anymore, but I found myself rolling my eyes repeatedly when I'd come across a tower that had a blocked entrance for no good reason and I had to look around yet again for some alternative way in. That got old super fast and made lots of other things feel like a chore to get done. Bad design of one bit seeps into the design choices of other bits and spoils the experience by making it feel like a total slog.

Now... a lot of people complain about the visuals. Although I found a few really problematic areas (like the occasional mesh overlap), I didn't have much issue with how the game looked. Where flowing water turns into a waterfall looks absolutely awful, but that was the only major gripe I had with the visuals. I didn't have high expectations here, given that it's a Switch game, so that part's pretty much fine with me. Didn't like it, didn't hate it. Neutral... and ironically the only thing saving this from an even lower score.

Fusion mechanics... hoo boy. This could have been interesting. You can make some really gnarly swords and some really interesting and useful shields... but since they doubled down on the durability detail that almost everyone hated in BOTW, this got old super fast. This was the one part of the game that could have saved it but nope... epic fail.

Ultrahand is kind of interesting. Building vehicles can be rewarding, and Autobuild has a couple of pretty interesting prebuilt designs. Unfortunately, most of the designs you can find from schema stones or the Yiga are absolutely worthless, and with only 8 slots for custom designs, you will run out of spots quickly. I built a really nice cannon car that made it impossible for regular enemies to do anything about, and it was pretty funny when a Frox just nommed it. Unfortunately, the interface is extremely slow, so even this part of the game suffers from the feeling of a slog.

The economics are completely broken from BOTW. It's much harder to earn rupees, since almost everything has been downgraded in value, and starter clothing is stupid expensive until you do pointless quests... in one case, MULTIPLE pointless quests. Admittedly, finding out that Cece has a carrot addiction is funny, but that's not only an outlier plot point in the sea of extremely lame plot points, but it's also one told so many times in fiction that it just serves to say "hey where have I seen this before?". But anyway, back to economics... even the great fairies are broken in terms of economics... everything has a labor charge now? On top of forcing you do to filler quests? Just drag it out even more, why don't ya... no, just no... just take my 10k rupees and bugger off. BOTW did this part right.

Some people say that the combat is easier, some say it's harder. I say it's about the same. Enemies have new attack patterns, and Nintendo went into their back catalog and pulled old enemies from the past into this game. No one liked the Like Likes though, Nintendo... so bringing them back was dumb. I didn't expect to see Gleeoks return though. Where's the new stuff? Oh, Horriblins... whose name matches their design. Yeah, it's funny the first time to watch them bounce around on their butt, but they don't add much to the gameplay at all. When you first start the game, you are horribly outmatched, as the statistics of the enemies are pumped WAY up. Getting hit once from a regular Bokoblin can get you a Game Over. What nonsense is this? You can be one-hit KO'd from the weakest monster in Ganondorf's army. Terrible balancing issues permeate the entire game. And then we get to the final boss... wow. You thought Calamity Ganon was a pushover? This game's final fight makes Calamity Ganon feel like a legitimate challenge. Terrible, terrible balancing.

I could go on for days about how screwed up this game was and how much they completely drained all of the fun out of BOTW, but there's a character limit here. All in all, this game was an epic fail.

In Zora's domain boss fight it drops really hard. Other necessary improvement is that you need to READ basically everything all the time like we always did in all Zelda's games, there is no considerable evolution in that sense, there is no voices at all, also the English dub during cutscenes is something that could be better. So I would never give maximum score to the game. BUT these are the only improvement points in the game and it is still considered a masterpiece. 8/10.

In trying to create this freedom of exploration and experimenting however, it truly surpasses its predecessor BotW in every aspect. Of course no review is objective, but if you want a good open world experience you definitely have it with Tears of the Kingdom, there are tons of activities to do, puzzles of all sorts, the design of the world and puzzles truly push you to use your skills in an imaginative way.

The TLDR for this review is simply this: the more I play Tears of the Kingdom, the less I enjoy it.

Truth be told, my experience with TotK has been hugely disappointing. While every aspect is technically proficient, it seems that very little has been considered regarding the Zelda series' history; from criticisms that ran near universal in Breath of the Wild, to the sky feeling just as empty as Skyward Sword's, to quests that amount to nothing more than going back and forth over and over. There are even new issues such as the world not being designed for the layout of important landmarks, or the new abilities having a surprisingly high skill floor, making the accessibility that was available in previous titles less applicable here. It's not like any one thing breaks the game in its entirety, but a slew of gradual issues slowly wears away at what would be an otherwise excellent experience.

Contrasting the above list of issues I have with this game, I do feel some improvements have been made, specifically over BotW, that make some areas of the adventure feel more fulfilling. Enemy variety has been increased, making for more interesting encounters. Dungeons and bosses have been changed up, resembling the aesthetics, and in some ways the mechanics, of classic Zelda titles. A new area known as The Depths is perhaps my favourite addition to this game, a terrifying world of darkness and danger that, in my opinion, far surpasses anything the overworld or sky can offer. Despite the amount of time I have spent being bored or uninterested in something in this game, I have found some stuff of worth.

Never did I want to give a new Zelda game a score as low as this. Previously, I had given this game an 8/10, but that was before I put another 30 hours into it. That was before I found dungeons and quests that I simply abhorred. That was before I experienced more of what the game had to offer. Sufficed to say, Tears of the Kingdom is a good game, but when I am done, I feel I will simply return to other Zelda games, such as Breath of the Wild or Majora's Mask, and never consider picking up TotK again.

I also understand that if you didn’t like breath of the wild, this probably won’t be your cup of tea either, as it largely seems to use many of the same design philosophies. What I can’t understand is people calling this game lazy. Nintendo is many things, but one thing they are not—lazy developers, especially when it comes to their big IPs. From what I’ve come to understand, the radical shift to the Zelda formula found in BOTW wasn’t necessarily a result of the fans getting tired of the Zelda formula (though many were at the time), but rather it was the developers at Nintendo who got sick of the Zelda formula. Breath of the wild was a passion project and I could feel their passion as I played it. I feel that same passion again in this game as I explore the sky islands, the depths, the caves, and so much more that the developers have lovingly created for us. I was concerned about this game having a substantial amount of new content above what breath of the wild had. I was afraid that the game would be like “DLC”. But as the game was approaching release I realized that even if the game was just glorified DLC, and even if the biggest thing it accomplished would be to give me a new perspective of this Hyrule that I fell in love with in BOTW, I would be happy. So far, I am happy to report that Tears of the Kingdom has gone above and beyond that mark for me and has created a unique experience that I am really enjoying. Frankly, the amount of new content is a bit overwhelming even!

It seems hasty to me that there are some giving a game of this scope a 0/10 the day after it comes out. This game might take 50-100 hours to appreciate all that it has to offer. And even after completion, it takes serious reflection to consider the effect of a game like this. I’m all for people having their own opinions, but I’m not as happy when I see people make hasty generalizations and parrot what they have seen or heard from others around them. This game deserves more critical thinking. So far, I’m loving this game. I haven’t had nearly enough time to form a true opinion about it, and I will change my score if my feelings on the game change. But for now 10/10, great game.

O jogo tá incrível, mantém a mesma qualidade do primeiro e traz novas funções excelentes...

I loved Breath of the Wild and when it comes to Tears of the Kingdom it does everything Breath of the Wild did but better! There is so many powers, equipment to be found everywhere. This game is a lot rewarding when it comes to exploration. Also there is so many things to do it kind of overwelmingly fun!

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom provides an incredible new gameplay that unleashes players' creativity to the fullest. The various exciting assembly and construction have made me feel my magical ideas, even though I thought I had lost my imagination. I give this game full marks.

Absolute perfect game. And the ability to create such a vast and beautiful game on a console so outdated is amazing

This game... In my opinion, it really is one of the greatest games I've ever played. This is my opinion, I really respect any opinion and any criticism of this game, but this game, it just fills all the criteria that make a game as good as perfect for me. I'm having so much fun exploring every layer of this game, I've already put 90 hours into this game and I'm probably not even halfway through the game. There is so much to explore. I enjoy it so much. You can explore the world of the game more freely than ever and it's just unbelievable how great the game is. Probably the most impressive thing about this game in my opinion is just that you are trying to solve a problem with the new mechanics of the Game or you just have an idea in your head trying to implement it and you just know that it will work because in this game everything just works.. everything works together so naturally. It's just amazing how smoth the game features blend in together. If you really liked breath of the wild as a game, how it worked and the exploring of the world, then I promise you will love tears of the kingdom just as much, if not more. And if you're worried that the map will feel too similar to breath of the wild, then I can tell you from my experienced, for me it was like playing a whole new game no matter what layer of the map I was on, whether it was Sky Island or on Hyrule itself.
In conclusion, I can say that I enjoyed the game like no other game before. Everyone has to know for themselves what kind of game they enjoy the most but I can really recommend this game to anyone who really liked breath of the wild. In manny places you can already get the Game for about 40-50 $/€ wich in my opinion is a great Deal :)

I personally have never played a Zelda game, so I tried out this game, I have never been more disappointed with a story, the amount of amazing reviews this game got I would have though it was the best game ever but I was disappointed.

Fun and addictive to play, terrible and dissapointing generic story and character development. The game also Feels too similar to BOTW but definitely and improved version or how it should have been.
The Depths are wonderfully designed but soon the amazingness dissapear when you realize they are 95% empty with most of it being optional and filled with fillers. The final battle is very dissapointing, you basically kill ganondorf just shooting arrows to his head and the dragon doesn’t do anything, like most of the game its all about looking pretty and cool but leaving a a shallow experience. overall it’s an entertaining game to play but far away to being a masterpiece like it was ocarina’s majora’s, twilight and even windwaker.

    Two reasons for this review:
    1. The game is amazing and you can tell that a lot of time, hard work, and care went into crafting this fun, beautiful entry to this series. Nintendo really doesn't cut corners with their second-most important child, The Legend Of Zelda.

I wasn't sure how Nintendo would find a way to top their work in Breath of the Wild back when it came out, but I feel they have here – with years of more polish applied and refined exploration. [Issue #66 – July/August 2023, p. 71]

The good thing is that, thanks to the limited possibilities, the creators couldn't go crazy and swing for hundreds of game miles. Instead, they created what could be called Elden Ring in a travel pack. [Issue#328]

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
